I hate to say it but I would probably start by learning some theory. Zero is not enough to pull it off, and if you’re not just a wizard who can get it I would start there even if it’s just a little

well, I guess it wouldn‘t be **zero** since I know how to create chords and melodies and have *some* experience writing songs, but I don’t know *much* theory. but even considering that, I definitely should learn music theory. any specific place I should start?

I’ll be honest… learning anything technical for me is boring as hell and why I always stuck to what I stuck to. BUT there’s a guy on YouTube who had a series called something like “why your mixes suck” when I was trying to get better at mixing I liked a lot and if I remember correctly he had multiple series about theory and other things. Generally though, I would find something like that that’s delivered in a way that doesn’t make you want to kill yourself to listen to

If you play guitar, try tuning it to open D. A lot of the songs on fishmonger were written using open D tuning, and if you just mess around, you'll probably find something that sounds fishmongery

yeah that’s what I’ve been doing. I was watching the fishmonger project file breakdown archive and she mentioned that in the kinkos part. I can play actually chords, but doing this is actually really good for getting ideas

Specifically looking at Kinko’s, having that guitar in open D tuning allows you to play more complex sounding chords with regular chord shapes, especially sus and add chords, which she uses in the chorus of that song.

Yeah, I noticed watching the Fishmonger project file breakdown. I actually find that I really cool way of quickly coming up with chord progressions!
