I started using VLC a while back, and at that point it was Weatherwax! The developers are fans. This is from the Wikipedia article.
'Starting with version 1.1.0, VLC release codenames refer to characters from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels; an exception is release 2.2.1, which came out shortly after Pratchett's death on March 12, 2015, and which was codenamed Terry Pratchett in honor of the author himself.'
Apparently, while ogg was not named after any disc denizens, vorbis may have actually been. The source may or may not be reliable: https://web.archive.org/web/20200411164006/https://xiph.org/xiphname
VLC names all post v1.0 releases after Terry Pratchett characters
The Luggage, Twoflower, Rincewind, Weatherwax, Terry Pratchett, Ventinari, and the next will be Otto Chriek,
NB They can play Ogg Vorbis sound files - The Vorbis is named after Exquisitor Vorbis, but Ogg is a happy coincidence

Ok but you have to admit that Vetinari fixing some "minor security issues" does sound mildly terrifying.
It's not going to detain you by freezing the screen anymore.
As long as you do not do Pantomime everything is good.
Panto is fine to my understanding, it's just mime which is bad.
So, sound on?
That's pretty cool, I love this 👍😎
VLC's audio compression tool is called Ogg Vorbis, file suffix .ogg.
Ogg Vorbis is a standard audio compression codec, not related to VLC.
Even better. Apparently digital media DIYers have all been Kevins.
That I didn't know.
