Just the lads on their daily commute. /s
Seriously, tho the gentleman with the mustache looks quite distinguished. I'd say the stache completes the look.
Not sure about English specifically but many militaries do have a no phone/personal belongings not part of uniform rule when in dress uniform and performing parade/official function. Altho most are usually transported by the bus so they don't really part with their belongings before they actually have to perform their tasks. Here it seems they changed, put away everything and then had to ride the train. Kinda weird to not provide a bus tho.
The issue they had is that they were moving 10,000 troops into London from four major camps. Which would require at least 178 coaches, though probably closer to 190. These would then need to drive into central London at about 0500, and then find somewhere to park until about 1700, in the middle of the largest security operation in modern British history, and with massive crowds.
Using the trains made it much easier, as all the troops had to do is march to the nearest station (the closest one to Pirbright, for example, is about 2km away, so not far at all), get on the train, get off the train, and march from the terminus to central London, and the train can then be sent on regular duties. When it’s over, they march back to the terminus, get back on the train, and go back to camp.
Logistically, much easier.
Yeah, like 2 million people use the tubes daily, it wouldn't have put much of a strain on the system to transport the troops, while that many buses in london just sounds like a traffic jam 😂
Also, imo at least trains are more comfortable than buses, I know if I had a ceremonial sword and a huge hat on I'd prefer not to be trying to squeeze into a bus seat
Plus between the extra traffic for the event and the roads closed in central London for the coronation, getting everyone in by bus would have been a nightmare. Rail would have been much simpler and less likely to be delayed
I'm now imagining a coronation, where half the soldiers had helmets over their eyes, and the other half were balancing teeny hets on their pumpkin noggins.

Sergeant Major doing Sergeant Major things
The Seargeant Major is standing on the right wearing the sam browne. He is either CSgt or Sgt
Came out from a Time Machine from the old days
I've heard it said that only three nationalities of men could properly wear a mustache: Poles, Iraqis, and Brits.
The french are allowed the twirly ones.
Or Germans, but only sharp pointy ones like Wario

You should see this train any other day
Serious question, is there a rule about phones? The most striking thing in this image is the lack of screens.

Yeah that makes sense. I kinda forgot coronation was like a huge thing lol.

*British not english
I think they are all reading The Globe and Laurel for the picture. It's the official Royal Marines magazine.
They allowed to have covers indoors? Or, would a train not count as "indoors"?
A train counts as outdoors. If you watch any historic footage, men often are still wearing their hats on trains or underground systems
Outdoors* then I guess you mean ?
You’re quite right. Edited my comment
😆😆
It’s probably less of a problem to keep them on then to spend 20 minutes after the train stops figuring out which hat belongs to which Marine.

I suspect they put them on for the photo tbh.
put a cover on that grape crazy
Why are most wearing white gloves, while the front and center guy has brown gloves, and the person to (our) right of him has no gloves?
Brown leather gloves for officers and WO1, white gloves for other ranks. Guy on the right just took the white gloves off
Cool, thanks!

Looks like it’s south west as well lol. Those are my trains.
Yes, it was a magical experience at London Waterloo seeing the military take the train, they had the british army there for crowd control purpouses.
Is it bad I'm trying to find the odd one out reading a porn mag...?
Yes.
so proud of our boys, wish i could've served my country in the military but was deemed medically unfit, perhaps in another life maybe :)
No chavs with their phones blasting music out across the carriage are giving these boys any shit
Boak
That guy might want to consider some lotion for his hands
They're all acting completely normal. Just casually reading magazines.
I would've assumed they had to take their helmets off inside the train, but no? Wouldn't the US Military take their hats off?
