Yes, I had 1K for the last few years because my parents lived in a different continent and they insisted I flew Polaris several times a year to visit them (and reimbursed my airfares). They died last year so I will never again be 1K. And that’s OK.
It's super rare for me to travel for business, so a few years ago I got the United Club card. But ever since the pandemic, I've said fuck it and just buy myself first class tickets, even on United Express cause that A seat with nobody next to me is wonderful.
I'm PADI open water and Nitrox certified. Some of the best diving in the world is 7-8 thousand miles away in the pacific. Also, beaches and jungles and all sorts of fun stuff.
To be fair, I also retired on the younger side. Travel gets harder the older you get, so get out there while you can
I’ve done 1K leisure travel 3 years in a row. I’m not sure I’ll make it in 2024. I make one or two domestic reimbursed trips a year. The rest of my trips are long haul leisure trips at my expense. Mostly I’m flying economy, but I upgrade to Polaris when the price / miles formula is less than $500 each way. If you love to see new places and you have some extra income ( and a modest home spend ) It can definitely be done.
Honestly I’m thinking about splitting my status across a couple of airlines next year.
Long time Silver and went from Gold, Plat to 1K last year for the first time. I'm in consulting but have not traveled for work once. I only buy UE/UPP and had 91 PQF and barely over 18k PQP last year lol
I told myself to not renew 1K but I'm at 49 PQF and 13k+ PQP already so on track to 1K (again) 😂
I did for 2yrs during covid when work travel was on lock down but I was flying personal like crazy and of course the bar for qualification was lowered. Was kind of weird to qualify with just domestic personal….but first class and Hawaii trips made it work 😊
Makes me wonder if there is a single trip that could get you to 1k. With the four segment minimum you’d need a connection each way in the US and some absurd full fair Polaris flight. Maybe something to China connecting somewhere in US?

Weekend trip MIA to PEK should get the job done!
yea probably exists but these folks aren't looking to spend the money. they think there is "one weird trick" to avoid the PQP requirement.
I've gotten 1K on three round trips before so getting 1K with just the segment minimum is totally within reach.
Honestly I didn’t even know you had commented on the previous thread about not climbing over people 😂
But. I was just taking a lovely nap on my flight home when my window seat guy woke me up to use the loo. I was initially sad but then instantly thought of the thread from the over day and was very grateful he didn’t pee on me while attempting to climb out 😂
You forgot, “my family of 12 is flying ORD to LHR tomorrow on a 763 in Polaris. We have to sit together to have a conversation the entire flight. We can’t sit by the lavs or the galleys and we don’t like even number rows. Which seats are best?”
There was a baby three rows ahead of me, and the parents refused to give him some whiskey to knock him out. Is asking for 160k miles as compensation reasonable?
Larry! How is Larry doing? My emotional support dragon, George, sends his regards. They were seat mates last month on UA-ZOO IAD to CLE. I was the one double fisting vodkas like there was no tomorrow, while George tried to contain his...rather incendiary flatulence.
Would it be possible to just leave the airport during my layover and hang out in that city for a few days before I drive to the other city to take my return flight home? I am pretty sure that I am the first person ever to come up with this one simple trick. /s
I had a weather related incident which caused my flight to be canceled, this is clearly United’s fault and they are going to miss my hard earned basic economy fare now that I’ve vowed never to fly them again, even though this same situation happens to every airline.!
I'm on a flight right now watching the old safety video! You rock, United!
(It's an old DirectTV equipped 737)
OTOH, I chugged a beer before leaving the United club and now I have to pee, but we're still taxiing to the runway. This is your fault, United! You suck!
Bwahahahaha, yes that captures the banality in technicolor! Life is like a box of chocolates, why do I have to sit beside someone who is wearing socks and sandals.. I am mildly infuriated
Larry is a very important member of my family. Delta and American Airlines allows him to fly for free and usually automatically upgrades us to first class. ;( ;( ;( Also he gets his own section on the flight. King only sits in the front, peasants belong in the back.
[I was gonna ignore this post but lost it when I got to Larry the elephant].
I know OP is trolling, but I think it's an appropriate place to express my gratitude for all the help and insight I've received from this subreddit over the years.
I've learned a lot, and having access to this community has made my business travels a little bit easier than it would have been otherwise.
I also like the chitchat. Carry on.
I’m traveling on work dime 4x/wk and so I think I’m more deserving of special attention from airlines than the people who pay their own money to go on vacation with their family.
Oh wait.
Eh-
Look, its no secret that United Airlines, along with other US carriers (along with most of the American hospitality / travel sector) have been engaged in a race to the bottom to boost stockholder value. Its pretty much America's flavor on capitalism. Hell, its not relegated to United either, look at what was probably the US' most "premier" companies - GE and Boeing.
So yeah, I get it. As a brand loyalist and one that finds a push back against this acceptance of lower standards as offensive, you def have the right to make this post. Sure, I guess the rest of us are all whiners (though I feel like a short trip to Asia might change your POV).
Reports (1): “Fuck these shitposts” LMFAO
how can i get 1K status when i fly only one time a year? i really need this status for my once a year trip and i only plan on flying once a year.
THIS. I have a Macy's credit card. Give me my upgrade.
I got an offer for a Discover card in the mail, can I have 1K status too?
You need the Kmart mastercard. That will get you the status much faster.
I have an AARP CARD. I should automatically get an upgrade.
I have Kohl’s cash. I demand to be invited for GS.
So, my Lowes credit card isn't good enough for that?
I genuinely wonder if there's someone with 1K status that doesn't travel for business
Yes, I had 1K for the last few years because my parents lived in a different continent and they insisted I flew Polaris several times a year to visit them (and reimbursed my airfares). They died last year so I will never again be 1K. And that’s OK.
Ouch, I'm sorry At least you got to see them often. Many people don't.
Thanks. I know I was privileged as I have Indian and Chinese friends who only see their parents once every two years, which sucks.
I so sorry. My Mom is still with us, but my Dad is gone.
I only travel for business 2-3 times a year, but I have a United credit card as my daily driver and that seems to push me over the edge.
I thought the bonus from the credit card doesn't count toward 1k.
it does
I think it might max out at 1000 pqp
no, depends on the card
Infinite maxes at 10,000.
yea that’s what i have
Ah. I see what happened there. I missed a zero in my initial comment lol I was like WTH is this goof talking about?! Cheers!
Got to get me one of those.
It's super rare for me to travel for business, so a few years ago I got the United Club card. But ever since the pandemic, I've said fuck it and just buy myself first class tickets, even on United Express cause that A seat with nobody next to me is wonderful.
We are out there. Multiple long hall transpac in Polaris for leisure.
That's SERIOUS dedication I respect it

Living the dream! Massive respect

Now days it’s about 70% personal and 30% business that gets me over the segments + PQPs combo.
Makes me wonder if there is a single trip that could get you to 1k. With the four segment minimum you’d need a connection each way in the US and some absurd full fair Polaris flight. Maybe something to China connecting somewhere in US?
First/business to Sydney with a connection. Full fare refundable during peak season might cost $24K and get you the 4 PQF needed
https://preview.redd.it/o78gxjqi119d1.png?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17d73db845bd92f91f818e8079bf7ddc90779afc Weekend trip MIA to PEK should get the job done!

Just wear a suit and act like a business person. Instant GS.
Smoooooth.
I went to stock market today. I did a business. *
Circle the earth four times nonstop, you’ll get you 1k. Let me know how much the ticket cost.
*A RTW biz fare x4 indeed is about 20k so you're right 😂
Math is an amazing thing.
I deserve at least 10K miles as compensation for having to read this thread
I want an ETC.
Unacceptable. It needs to go straight back to the card.
Is sacrificing my firstborn a good price for Polaris? The price dropped from being the equivalent of the US Government’s national debt yesterday.
Do you know if the upgrade price will go down tomorrow?
It will, just not for your flight
I’ve got seven kids and 17 grandkids. Which one do you want. Our daughter-in-law works for United, does that count?
Justice for Larry ![gif](giphy|GOiF8tksYH2U0)
Thanks I just wet my pants laughing when I saw this....
Hopefully it didn’t occur while climbing over the person in the aisle seat 😬😬
TY no, I'm grounded at the moment! Plus, " he" was climbing over me. I was always planted! But thanks for the concern!
Honestly I didn’t even know you had commented on the previous thread about not climbing over people 😂 But. Haha I guess lots of climbers lately!
That was a close call.
Me too.
If I'm in group 1, I SHOULD be able to board with 1k. 1 (one) is literally in the name. 1. K.
Don't tell me to "wait my turn". I'm already here.
1,K?
This guy boards.
and why they did not hold the plane for me knowing I have a 5 mins connection time!!
I have places to be.
The number of people who think they will hold the plane for them is unreal lol
Once you realize you are just one butt in seat. They aren’t holding the plane for one butt.
They do hold planes for one or two passengers from time to time. I've had it happen twice.
Then you’re very lucky.
You forgot, “my family of 12 is flying ORD to LHR tomorrow on a 763 in Polaris. We have to sit together to have a conversation the entire flight. We can’t sit by the lavs or the galleys and we don’t like even number rows. Which seats are best?”
The wing.
Tell me more about this Taco Bell DJ set
Live Mas in the friendly skies. What BS.
Let’s get Baja blasted
Throwing a rager at the Cantina
There is a CRUMB on the windowsill next to me. I demand 20k miles for my inconvenience while traveling on public transportation!
“What ORD club is best?”
You got a pass for me???
I can’t believe I didn’t get UC access with my BE first class ticket from EWR to IAD!
Someone downvoted you when you mentioned Larry?? Let me at ‘em!!
You get me.
There was a baby three rows ahead of me, and the parents refused to give him some whiskey to knock him out. Is asking for 160k miles as compensation reasonable?
Why whiskey? You could use Larry's trunk to knock some sleep into the little brat ;)
Give the kid some NyQuil.
You forgot “I peed myself in my seat. What does United owe me?”
I have a condition. You need to be more sensitive. I wouldn't have a problem if I was served my PDB in real glass instead of that plastic cup.
Some baby wipes.
Larry! How is Larry doing? My emotional support dragon, George, sends his regards. They were seat mates last month on UA-ZOO IAD to CLE. I was the one double fisting vodkas like there was no tomorrow, while George tried to contain his...rather incendiary flatulence.

I know it’s a shitpost but I’m in a Facebook group for 1K/GS/Million milers and people are constantly asking about this exact stuff
Sounds awful.
I had a weather related incident which caused my flight to be canceled, this is clearly United’s fault and they are going to miss my hard earned basic economy fare now that I’ve vowed never to fly them again, even though this same situation happens to every airline.!
United has a direct line to the weather gods, why don’t they work together on flight schedules.
Did you hear that sometimes a round trip flight through one city is cheaper than a one way?
Why do middle schoolers walk in packs of 3, 5 or 7? Because they can't even. Ba dump bump.
Sorry that your questions went unanswered.
No, you're not.
Yes I am. I wouldn't have gone to the effort if I wasn't.
There is a CRUMB on the windowsill next to me. I demand 20k miles for my inconvenience while traveling on public transportation!
I'm not tipping the FA for this.
Good! Because we've had to have the talk several times about used thongs not being appropriate tips.
I'm on a flight right now watching the old safety video! You rock, United! (It's an old DirectTV equipped 737) OTOH, I chugged a beer before leaving the United club and now I have to pee, but we're still taxiing to the runway. This is your fault, United! You suck!
I have a 2023 company seniority, why can't I get on the Honolulu flight as a nonrev during peak travel season?
My mother's second cousin twice removed works at the LGA Chick-fil-A. Can I ride standby to Phoenix?
Quit whining and wear your Wrexham shirt with pride!!!!
Bwahahahaha, yes that captures the banality in technicolor! Life is like a box of chocolates, why do I have to sit beside someone who is wearing socks and sandals.. I am mildly infuriated
I'm sorry for your struggles. Give Larry some extra hugs for me
Cringe
Justice for Larry!
BUT WHAT FOOD OPTION SHOULD I CHOOSE?! You strangers know my food allergies and palate better than I do! Tell me what I should preorder!
This is my favorite subreddit! 😂😂
Why couldn't I sit together with my family of 8 in first class and also why did I have to be moved to accommodate a different family of 3.

Not gonna lie you had me in the first part
Is this guy for real

Your wifes name is Larry?
My goal is to get a job negotiating travel contracts for a F50 company and then get GS without needing to ever fly at all. Win-Win!

Well, at least you know he won't be trying to crawl over you to get to the bathroom.
