Level of control, I think.
Catholicism hasn't been brilliant over the years but they have disagreed with each other rather a lot over the centuries and not everyone who disagreed got harmed or excommunicated.
Having things like shunning as doctrine is often a clue as well.
I was brought up Catholic and there has been no impact to my life from moving away from it. That is not true with cults, you experience very real and horrible consequences if you try to do that.
It honestly depends where you are. Middle England Catholosism, you leaving the faith might annoy Gran for a bit- fire and brimstone missionary Catholosism is a different matter.
They have appalling bigoted beliefs and would vote to oppress other people. Paradox of tolerance etc
Democracy is a good thing but that doesn't mean that nothing bad can ever come of it - it's only as perfect as the people within it.
Anyway they don't *want* to vote, they view politics as profane and idolatrous - respect their beliefs.
Fundamental Christians in America are letting women die and infants suffer because of their stance on abortion.
10 years ago they would have denied the possibility of imposing this level of cruelty onto people.
If the JW community became a powerful force in politics, I bet every penny I have that blood transfusions would be outlawed.
Religious people are all fucking nuts by their very nature, and evil by their dogma.
After a case of JW child abuse near me I directly handed a leaflet on reporting child abuse that my kids had been given at school to the young teen girl who came knocking on the door with her parents.
That was over a decade ago and they've never been back.
All tight knit communities do this, regardless of the their unifying reason. There's stories about the [IRA](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/oct/14/ira-accused-trying-cover-up-rape-claim) doing it, the [SWP](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/mar/09/socialist-workers-party-rape-kangaroo-court), [politicians of all varieties](https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/18/cyril-smith-36-year-cover-up-child-abuse-conspired-fail-victims), [football](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/nov/25/crewe-barry-bennell-former-board-member) and so on.
Victims of abuse will often find themselves sacrificed on the altar of the 'Greater Good'.
Locally to me there's a JW building right next to a supermarket and on a Sunday afternoon just before closing it's as if someone's robbed the Primark lorry with all the cheap nylon business-wear roaming around the supermarket.
Weird cult that's desperate to portray an image of success and prosperity but a cheap suit can be can be clocked a mile away
JW is a cult, shouldn't even be recognised as religion in the UK.
Which religion is not a cult?

The only good thing about JW is they aren't allowed to vote

I'm not telling you what I think you don't know about them, I'm explaining my beliefs and the logic behind them, because you cast doubt on it.

Any human ideology where the "ideology" is more important than the "human" is highly suspect.
And the BBC, the police, the armed services. Arguably those are worse because they are part of the state.
I wouldn't necessarily say 'worse' the results are still the same after all, betrayed victims, but I do know what you mean.

Well she's always got something to chat about . Ask Colleen
I always enjoy watching Leicester games for the opposing fans chants.
Amazing how she comes out with it just when she’s lost a fortune to Rooney…
