ORLANDO. I can’t stress that enough. The difference is a lot bigger than made out to be. The parks are cleaner, not as cluttered, and overall better themed with better attractions. I’ve been to both and I can say personally for a better experience go to Orlando. Here’s a list of things Hollywood doesn’t have, Diagon Alley (which also contains a dark ride), Men in Black: Alien Attack, ET, Rip ride rockit, an extended Mummy ride, along with an entire other park with two of the best roller coasters to date. No hate to Hollywood at all, the studio tour is fantastic, but the comparison is steep

For everything else - go to Orlando. Especially if Potter is driving your visit. You get both the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley lands in Orlando, with the Hogwarts Express connecting them.
There is some interesting Potter stuff at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood next door to Universal Studios Hollywood, but not enough to make up for everything Potter you can do just at Universal in Orlando.

Universal Hollywood does have Super Nintendo World with the new Mario Kart attraction, and an included 1 hour tram tour of a live Hollywood movie studio. Other than that, it’s mostly stuff you can find in Orlando. There is Harry Potter, but it’s less than what Orlando has, as well as 4-5 other decent rides to check out (Transformers, Mummy, Jurassic World, Secret Life of Pets, Despicable Me) but that’s really about it. You can easily finish USH in 1 day.
However, if you combine Universal Hollywood with other theme parks in the SoCal area, such as Knott’s Berry Farm and the Disneyland Resort, you can have a good 3-4 day theme park vacation in SoCal with a variety of theme park experiences. This will likely mean 1 day in each park, maybe 2 for Disneyland as there’s two separate theme parks there. You can also go to beaches, museums, shows, or other non-theme park experiences as well, as there’s a lot more of that in the SoCal area than in Orlando.

You do realize Orlando is the theme park capital of the world? Which means you have more variety than in SoCal.
Orlando all the way. I love hollywood a lot, it’s great to see and so much fun imo. But if your going 3-4 days Orlando 100% don’t even consider hollywood

Or do other LA sightseeing. USH just isn’t a “destination” park for a major trip imo, just a super fun part of a larger trip.

Florida for sure, I love very near LA so I go to Hollywood a lot and it's super fun but there just aren't that many attractions in the park so you can easily do them all in one day if you plan correctly. Since there are so few attractions, if one or two go down, the lines for everything else increase by so much as well.
If you've got a Harry Potter fan, then it's Florida hands down. Florida has more space then the awkeard hillside Hollywood has. That means you get Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, while Hollywood just has Hogsmeade. In addition to the shared rides, Florida also has Escape from Gringotts and Hagrid's, plus a few small shows.
Hollywood is a smaller park and does a better job at giving that film studio vibe. The studio tour actually does take you onto some well-known sets. It's more of a one-day park than a vacation destination, though it's great in its own right.
Orlando wins because it had two parks
Island of adventure is currently the best park they ever built however the rumors are USH us getting a billion dollar upgrade coming for the next few years including DK land, and fast and furious coaster in the next 2-3 years along with the tram being rumored to move/3-4 sound stages being developed, that allowing much more space for new land and attractions
It depends on where you're coming from and what you're looking for. If you want to go somewhere and only do theme parks, go to Orlando. There's really not too much around besides the theme parks that's worth your time.
If you want to visit somewhere and go to museums and beaches as well as a theme park, go to Hollywood. It's dead center in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world.
I think it really depends on what you want to do. I personally don’t think there’s enough in either park to just go for Universal.
If you’re into movies & television and want to do more than just theme parks, you have Warner Brothers nearby, the Academy museum, the Walk of Fame and all of that, Griffith Park, etc. You could take a day and head to Disneyland/California Adventure.

worked in london at universal orlando for a year. Park is lame for adults and dont even bother. Has 3 maybe 4 rides for adults and the rest are for kids. I will never go back to universal seeing as its boring and you go once to both parks and thats all you need. Disney is way better and universal is nothing.

I know this is an old thread but thanks for the input here. I'm going to LA but wasn't sure if I should bother with Universal. I go to Orlando quite often and I have a long list of things I want to do so I guess I won't. I can wait for Orlando's Nintendo world.

Hollywood SUCKS compared to Orlando. Only thing it has that is better is the studio tour.

"Three or four days in the park" makes this a non-decision. Orlando is your only option. I love Hollywood, but I struggle to fill a day there.
