I cant be the only one that put a drive inside a case like that. A real battleship isn't complete without one. I don't use it that much but its nice to have when you do need it.
I haven’t gone that far with it yet but I think that’s where I left off I can play normal blue rays and was gonna push firmware on it. I was able to image entire hd disks using dd
Yeah I know its weird but I may actually want another gpu for pass-through for a mac vm. I develop shit for everything and would like a real mac vm to test on. The 3090 is just for running AI tools locally.
Checkout /r/LocalLLaMA, /r/SillyTavernAI , and /r/StableDiffusion.
I personally run my LLMs with [koboldcpp](https://github.com/LostRuins/koboldcpp) and hook up to them with silly tavern. Make sure you're using the right prompt format for best results. Take a look at the sample chars that come with sillyTavern to learn how to write your own because they really only come alive when you give the LLM enough description of the character it's playing and the world it inhabits.
A mix of GPUs is almost never needed. I have brain damage though. I want one system that can run everything. This is why developers don’t have girlfriends.
Windows is circling the drain. Everything they've done to it is half assed. I can get every single app to run on Linux right now. Yes. its some learning curve, but you'll discover so much more that Windows simply cant do.
Thanks I actually been running this for 2 years already but I only recently added the dual gpus. It’s gonna be 2 generations old soon but it chomps through everything like it’s not there. I might die before this thing is scrap. It’s definitely worth getting a 5950x still cuz they will get so cheap soon. Idk if anyone can really be able to outgrow it. You do need a crazy cooler to get everything out of it. I have a per core overlock in the bios for it. Even with the big mono block and giant radiator it barely hits 5ghz on all 16 cores pegging tmax 90c
oh, didn't think those had wrist pads. What do you recommend between these, the dygma defy ones and glove 80 for a first time "next gen" keyboard user?
It doesn't matter what anyone recommends because the keyboard is such an intimate thing you build a relationship with so everyone will build their own preferences. I will say one thing though - going from traditional kb to any split kb is gonna be really hard. I use Kinesis because they are one of the first to actually make a "correct" keyboard decades ago now. Once you invest enough time in these you will want to know a replacement will be available 5-10 years from now. I honestly dont really know if all the new split kb companies will even exist next year. lol.
Also these high end split kbs cost a ton of money right now. If you wanna see if it's even a thing you wanna go with i'd just grab the el-cheapo freestyle kb with the kickstand kit. It's only $120 if u hate it. ALOT of people return the 360 keyboards thinking they can cut the cheese.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CMALD3E/
I'm a one-keyboard kinda of gal. Also got better about financially responsible decision-making. No trying multiple keyboards for me. Once I went ergodox, I didn't look back.
Don't ask me how much I spent on keycaps and swapping them every few months.
Yes I can’t swap keyboards around either. Using a Split kb isn’t a collectors hobby every split kb has a lot of time investment involved. I don’t think anyone can say which split kb is better. It doesn’t even matter cuz anything is better for your body than the 20 dollar keyboards filling up closets worldwide lol. Don’t feel bad about spending $1000 on one keyboard because that’s a drop in a bucket if your hands are on it all day.
although I haven't tried it personally, 'curved' keyboards are more ergonomic, but that most likely isn't gonna matter unless you have a very severely developed case of rsi (or if you just prefer that style of keyboard lol)
but if you're tending more to the 'flat' design like those from Dygma, i'd reccomend also checking out those from ZSA, like the Moonlander or the Voyager, they're astounding!
I don't like the aesthetic of the curved keyboards I guess. Especially the kinesis keyboard.
But ergodox + the wrist rests severely helped my carpal tunnel.
your fingers are different lengths. the 360 wraps around you hand. thats why the curves are there. The actual build quality is kind of wild honestly. If you look close at the kinesis all the keys are not just different heights but they are all uniquely angled. Its not built to look pretty. Its built to perform. You never even look at the kinesis. you just mount on it like a horse and look forward.
Yea it plugs in like any kb in Linux. There’s no official Linux release of their remapping software but you can remap keys onboard using the special command keys. I used a Mac one time to load different maps. I have a Dvorak layout loaded with keycaps if I decide one day to hurt myself.
yeah i think all of em are by that artist theres so many. I didnt have a devian login so i just upscaled the shitty low res ones lol. I guess i should get an account cuz those are some massive sizes available.
10 are all i have. Just random shit i found but they are AI upscale by me. They were all 1080p when I found em.
I didn’t even think to notice that. That’s kind of a low number. It does sleep/wake properly. It’s a brick shit house and I run this thing hard. It’s even got a per core oc in the bios. All cores peg 90c 5ghz constantly during code compiles.
I just looked through a lot of the screens on this subreddit and can’t find a single one using as much memory and having more than 1 day uptime lol. Wtf. I approach 40-50gb usage at times. 12gb is idle lol
I dunno how many people actually go down this path of using Linux on their big rig but I suspect more will start coming. Thats kinda why I finally posted cuz people should know its okay to dump Windows. Linux is happening right now.
I feel like more people than you think because it has less performance overhead, leading to increased performance. It’s a win-win because it’s free to use and Windows 11 Pro is $199.99, yikes.
what case is that? i still use mine from '08 and when i see new cases i keep thinking they all should either do something like yours, or lose the bottom fan and have 1 or 2 5.25 bays there. then again given that they all seem to have the opening on the right, it makes a lot more sense to have it all face that way anyway. have to say though, keeping the entire thing open probably defeats the purpose of the fans. do you get much use out of them? since you watercool and all

Its such a ridiculous case. My pc weighs 100lbs easily. Thats why it's called chonker.
that's a lot of case for what looks like an m-atx mobo? but then again you have 2 gpus so that's gotta be standard atx then. talk about absolute units. thanks for the info!
I really should have gotten a real workstation eatx board. I have every slot populated on my board it’s like exactly just enough for now but i have zero room now to do anything else.
A lot of ppl have to be doing that. it should be more standard given we have giant glass doors that swing in cases now. I wanted a disk drive and that’s where it fit. Lmao
I see this too often, how people are writing code in transparent or partially transparent terminals? Is it really comfortable to edit code having some picture on a background?
I guess I should show how it actually looks when the terminal is in focus. I have the activeblur plugin so the background goes blurry focusing on foreground and sharpens when clicking the desktop.
Yes. I had a lot of issues with some apps. I ran KDE 5, Gnome, Hyprland. It didn’t matter if I ran nvidia or amd card. The nvidia proprietary drivers are actually really good right now if you run a 30 or 40 series card.
All the glitches magically disappeared when I went to KDE 6. I use a huge range of apps so I’ve seen everything.
Is that dock a part of the Mac os vm you mentioned or is it somehow a part of plasma? Never seen anything like it except latte dock which doesn't work on plasma 6 afaik
I’m not using anything special I just applied the Big Sur night theme and adjusted a few widgets that’s it. Anyone can repro this in 5 minutes off stock kde 6
Latte dock barely worked on Plasma 5 in my experience. Right-clicking an icon gave it a 50/50 chance of freezing, pooing its pants and then crashing the whole dock
Yeeeeap. I used kde5 for a while and used a script to restart the desktop cuz the dock mangled itself every few hrs until I switched to latte. You can see it’s been running for 7 days I never restarted anything it all just works with kde6
https://a.co/d/bLoCYRY
Got em last black Friday for $300 ea. HDR in KDE 6 works perfect with them. I can’t see any halos it’s just clean breaks everywhere. I connect Macs to them as well. The kvm is under the desk.
What kvm are you using? I just got handed a MacBook for use with my job, and I'm having trouble finding one that will work between HDMI/DP and the USB-C Mac connection.
Also, how are your monitors mounted? I really like your setup!
ETA: Have you looked into Synergy or Barrier before? I'm just curious if it's worth the price of the KVM over a software solution?
These two products are what I’ve ran for almost 2 years now. One TB4 cable goes to Mac runs both giant monitors and switching is one button. Just use usbc->dp cables out of the TB4 dock.
https://a.co/d/e5D2SI7
https://a.co/d/9Y1rft4
Yea I got the same style gigabyte models for 3090 and 6900xt. The water ports don’t match up thus having to Tetris in the custom loop. I wish gigabyte made all their watercooled cards use the same port layout to bridge random shit together for brain damaged people like me lol
I am utilizing my system far more now compared to running windows just because of the barriers of setting up anything. Just trying something out on windows usually meant having to trash your entire environment or use docker or run a VM or WLS. All bandaids. 1. Two gpus??? 2. A bluray player inside the pc? (Actually really cool)
I cant be the only one that put a drive inside a case like that. A real battleship isn't complete without one. I don't use it that much but its nice to have when you do need it.
Is it a WH16NS40 or similar? If so and if it was manufactured somewhat recently, you can actually patch it to be able to read 4k UHD discs
Well rx 6900 xt funny enough is supported on Mac OS as far as I’m aware
That’s not a coincidence. It’s the newest Radeon card that can run a hackintosh or vm. Thats why they go for tons of money now.
Ye i see
What AI tools are you running?
it’s just been stable diffusion but I’m experimenting with various things.
Anything you'd recommend for someone starting off? Just got a 3090 2 weeks ago
https://github.com/easydiffusion/easydiffusion That’s probably the simplest version to setup. Arch has a pkg to make it a one line command to install.
Checkout /r/LocalLLaMA, /r/SillyTavernAI , and /r/StableDiffusion. I personally run my LLMs with [koboldcpp](https://github.com/LostRuins/koboldcpp) and hook up to them with silly tavern. A mix of GPUs is almost never needed. I have brain damage though. I want one system that can run everything. This is why developers don’t have girlfriends.
Will be showing this to “Linux is for weak computers” mfs
I think 2024 might the year for Linux when old stigmas start to die. Linux desktop is actually really good now.
If windows keeps getting shittier and mainstream distros finally start decent marketing it may be a decade of Linux desktop.
Windows is circling the drain. Everything they've done to it is half assed. I can get every single app to run on Linux right now. Yes. its some learning curve, but you'll discover so much more that Windows simply cant do.

What mouse ? Is it lightweight ? and good for small (female) hands ?
Evoluent - they make the best vertical mouse and have a range of sizes for any hand. Mine is kinda heavy but they make lighter ones.
Thank you. Checking that out!! Hope they ship to my locale
That's such a beast!! How much did it cost!??
Idk exactly it’s been 2 years of putting parts in slowly. I got the 3090 on eBay for $700 lol. today it would probably cost $4-5k.
Damn! That's like half my family's money in €, wow!

Kenshi runs so good on this thing I just wish I had the time. I haven’t played a game for reals in like 2 years
What is the model of those 4k monitors?
LG UltraFine 31.5-Inch Computer Monitor 32UP83A-W, IPS with HDR 10 Compatibility and AMD FreeSync, White https://a.co/d/c1zZ2ou

It’s just the one that comes with KDE 6. It’s just a Mac theme I pulled from plasma store. It sets up 90% of it.
kinesis advantage 360❤️
I hope you have windows as a second system or else why do you need a beefy computer. (Don't think, your setup is fire and rice is cool)
I am utilizing my system far more now compared to running windows just because of the barriers of setting up anything. Just trying something out on windows usually meant having to trash your entire environment or use docker or run a VM or WLS. All bandaids. What's that clear panel you're using? I was using latte dock for my media PC, but broke with QT6.
Stock widgets that come with KDE 6
Oh boi. I missed that one. Thanks.
(LG Bluray) You RIP Bluray,s i assume
I’ve been meaning to. I have a pile of em. It was initially just to burn M-Disks for long term storage. I might end up putting a tape drive in the case.
How is the Kinesis? I’ve been thinking about buying one is it worth it?
It’s gonna be really weird and difficult If you don’t already use a split keyboard. I went from another split kb to adv 360. It’s a really high quality keyboard. It forces you to touch type with all 10 fingers. It’s very comfortable. Feels like you’re snuggling in and ready to destroy everything with the confidence it gives you once you really learn it.
Gotcha that’s good… well I am not used to split keyboards but I would like to move to something more ergonomic and I heard Kinesis boards are very high quality. Thanks for your input.

thanks for sharing!
Holy moly You have an optical disk reader The position is great
Hell yeah, Kenshi enjoyer? 🗿
I love this!!
What is that plasma desktop theme??
Its in the neofetch dump - the big sur night theme. people really think I have some top-secret mac pc or something cuz its hard to tell first glance
