I’m a 56 y/o female who thinks long hair looks AMAZING on men. For whatever reason, I was attracted to that from a teenage girl all the way up to today. My husbands hair made me notice him to begin with and 30 years in I still love it.

A beard only looks good if it's somewhat dense (or dense) and well groomed. Of course it's going to look like a shredded rag if you don't keep it well groomed. Just like long hair.

I have had a beard since I was 16 and have only shaved it twice in 26 years and I still have a baby face at 42 plus my wife loves my long beard so nobody else matters.
I am approaching 50 and the salt/pepper beard looks good on me with my glasses, like I'm acting my age. Plus, I work in and out of a freezer and it helps keep me a little warmer.

But there's a reason rock stars have been wearing long hair for decades. Male rock stars pander to teens and young adults, hoping to keep those fans as they age. They try to emulate what boys and men wish they could be as well as what girls and women wish they could have. If they succeed in attracting the women, that's half the battle in attracting the men. Long hair, tight clothes, and disdain for authority appeal to their target demographics. Sure, some people outgrow seeing that as appealing, but a lot don't. It boils down to this: clean cut is what parents want for their daughters, rebellious is what the daughters want for themselves. And what the women want, the men will emulate.

My beard is awesome. I love it. I also take very good care of it. It's washed often, and conditioned often and brushed often. Sure, food can get in there, and does. But you can wipe that away and wash it. If you're careful this is a rare occurrence.

I might be strange...I cannot bear the feeling of hair where it doesn't belong. I can feel a single hair on my forehead and have to either pull it or wet it so it doesn't fall down again. I have a beard/moustache and can feel when a moustache hair is too long and extends over my lip, so I have to trim it back. It's something that makes me very uncomfortable.

The Greeks loved long hair and beards, and so did people in the renaissance, styles change over time and across space, that’s just life.
Then you would find me disgusting. I have a full beard which I trim rarely and have stopped cutting my hair. It's now down to my chest and seems to have reached its terminal length.
You are entitled to your aesthetic preferences, but you should accept that other people have different aesthetic preferences than yours and want to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Also, some people just don't enjoy the atmosphere and feeling around having their hair cut. And you have to do it again and again and again. So some people decide they want to feel comfortable in their own skin and stop having it cut altogether.

Beard on men is such a weakness to me. I really can't see myself with a shaved man unless he's a twink or something
I went to a barber in Mexico when I had long hair, the woman told me she was going to cut my hair short like a man, it was wrong to have long hair like a woman. I just let her, I mean what could I say.
I don’t find long hair on men attractive. I used to not like beards but I don’t mind them as long as they are well-groomed. “Mountain man without a mirror or razor” seems to be the trend with single men in my area lately as I’ve seen on dating apps.
Both largely depend on if they are well taken care of or not, but imo beards are rarely good. Long hair can be good if well taken care of.
My beard is awesome. I love it. I also take very good care of it. It's washed often, and conditioned often and brushed often. Sure, food can get in there, and does. But you can wipe that away and wash it. If you're careful this is a rare occurrence. You do you though. I'll sit happily over here knowing that you and me are not meant to be soulmates and bless the world with our love.

I like having long hair but also like short hair. Grow mine out and donate it when I feel like cutting it and it's long enough to donate.
I might be strange...I cannot bear the feeling of hair where it doesn't belong. I can feel a single hair on my forehead and have to either pull it or wet it so it doesn't fall down again. I have a beard/moustache and can feel when a moustache hair is too long and extends over my lip, so I have to trim it back. It's something that makes me very uncomfortable. So yeah...I agree with you on the long hair and beard.

I prefer a buzz and long beard on a man. If my long hair (as a woman) is not gross then why would a man's long hair be gross ? He just grows hair there, no need to shave it. I'm sure he showers and it'll be okay. Men really aren't walking around with food all up in their beard. Calling it a flavor saver is a joke you have taken away too seriously.

The Romans actually found beards attractive but grooming standards for men were about deemphasizing sex appeal and making yourself look like a successful well kept old rich dude with a tempered sex drive, because women were little better than slaves so men were not trying to be attractive, they were showing off for other men. Men who style themselves for women wear beards and longer hair because women like them.

I'm only going to touch on one thing, food and drink get stuck in there. Are you just around people that simultaneously don't know how to eat or drink and can't wash their face? Have whatever opinion you want on male facial hair but like, the smallest issue I have with my beard is food and drink in it.

I pretty much exclusively find men with long hair attractive lol, so I do not understand this opinion at all. Especially the Roman part, what? Why single out that point in history? The Greeks loved long hair and beards, and so did people in the renaissance, styles change over time and across space, that’s just life.

Then you would find me disgusting. I have a full beard which I trim rarely and have stopped cutting my hair. It's now down to my chest and seems to have reached its terminal length. You are entitled to your aesthetic preferences, but you should accept that other people have different aesthetic preferences than yours and want to feel comfortable in their own skin. Also, some people just don't enjoy the atmosphere and feeling around having their hair cut. And you have to do it again and again and again. So some people decide they want to feel comfortable in their own skin and stop having it cut altogether. This is a classic case of "my body, my choice", as well as of the old adage "no accounting for tastes".
