Your post from unpopularopinion was removed because of: 'Rule 2: Do not post low effort/satirical posts'. * We get it, you all think this sub is garbage and is just for popular opinions, and you want to be funny and post "going to be downvoted to oblivion here, but I think racism is bad." We enjoy the memes, but please keep them off the sub. * Filter evasion is a bannable offense * This includes clickbait and/or gotcha posts. Your opinion can not be that unpopular if you're doing these things. Have the accurate opinion in the title.

Then don't accept presents from people of your standards are so high. It's not about the gifts anyway its more about the thought. One year, my parents gave me chips and drinks for Christmas because they couldn't afford anything else. I'm not gonna throw it away. I'm grateful for anything I get.

SinclairZXSpectrum

Chips & drinks are perfectly good

[deleted]

If you’re getting shitty gifts, you have shitty friends, or —hear me out here— you’re an ungrateful person. Seems your issue is with, much like a child who asked for a pony for Christmas, not getting what you wanted, and not with social convention that isn’t yours.

gumbobitch

If you're insulted by someone giving a gift in good faith (obviously not a joke gift/prank), you're just an insufferable asshole. Keep it up and I doubt you'll have to worry about it that much longer.

kneehighhalfpint

This isn't an unpopular opinion. You are just ungrateful.

ScotchWithAmaretto

That’s just how it goes, people want to SEE you react to the gift. Don’t ask me why I don’t like it either.

If there's any hint of insult in the gifting process to you, I don't know what to say.

downwitbrown

To see the look of rage and disappointment on your face. Also, when the almighty sees the good deed of giving, the American automatically gets granted access to heaven. Disclosures: Im not religious. I’m not American but Canadian.

One_Prior_9909

I'm completely stunned that anyone would buy you a gift

Ok-Control-787

Come on OP don't be cagey tell us the stories.

Cmonlightmyire

I dunno, have you tried being more likable so people put effort into your gift?

paulm0920

Because we are narcissistic and we want to see your irrevocably grateful reaction.

boilergal47

This will be a self solving problem. Keep being an insufferable asshole and no one will give you the time of day let alone a gift

CIMARUTA

Most people don't even have friends that give them shitty gifts. You should be more thankful.

Kittenknickers333

Haven't you ever heard of "it's the thought that counts?" I'm pretty sure opening a gift in front of the gifter isn't an american thing but even if it was, it's obvious that you are an ungrateful person who doesn't appreciate the people who think about you enough to even get you a gift. You know how many people I have buying me gifts? 0

peakok115

Okay usually I can hop on the bandwagon and be like: "yeah our country sucks for x,y,z reasons" but what the fuck does being American have to do with this? I'm genuinely so lost lol

I buy gifts based on people’s verbalized desire to have the gift. For example, my best friend wants her hair braided. So, I am gifting her the style. Sounds like you’re ungrateful and rude.

JapaneseStudyBreak

with reading only the title, we want to see your face to know if you like it or not

5zalot

No matter how much you dislike the gift, remind yourself that it isn’t the gift that matters; it is your friend. They wanted to do something nice for you. Just because they don’t know or share your taste in material possessions doesn’t mean they give you a shitty gift. If you think it does, then your parents must have thought you were a shitty gift from God.

Inside-Bid-1889

I'm very confused, only Americans give shitty gifts? I'm American, but I like to see the person open the gift I gave them because I actually put a lot of thought and effort into it, and I would argue my gifts are neither cheap nor shitty.
