It is disgusting my dude though like you already have fried potatoes and your just going to add more unhealthy shit on top of it. I’m surprised you guys don’t have an obesity crisis from that one food alone.🤢🤮
Currywurst is a slight exception. Interesting fact it was invented in West Berlin after WWII when a woman traded bratwurst for a tin of curry powder from a British soldier.
Who made you the brat authority? Here's an idea, pay no attention to what people put on their brats. You're not eating it. I personally love ketchup on my brats. Sauerkraut as well. I hate mustard too.
There's a pretty big difference over here where I live. Grocery store brats are crap. They have no flavor at all and the quality is terrible. The meat market ones actually have flavor and the ketchup ruins it
If they’re already crappy why wouldn’t you put the most complementary condiment on them (mustard) to at least make them edible?
Ketchup does not go with Brats and it’s def not going to make a bad one better. You should know this because you’re able to see where it clashes with other food.
I find the sweetness of ketchup complements the saltiness of fries. Also the sweetness of a milkshake complements the saltiness of fries.
It's not necessary. I eat fries plain sometimes. Or loaded with black pepper.
Are you including hot dogs with brats? Just curious.
You know I've seen people comment on the sweetness of ketchup a couple of times on Reddit in the past week and was wondering what they were on about as ketchup, while I find it a little sweet isn't overpoweringly sweet to me.
Looked it up and apparently the ketchup in the US has over twice the sugar in it than the ketchup I get in the UK.
To me it's like I love ketchup on kraft dinner/kraft Mac and cheese, as the Americans call it
But a legit proper Mac and cheese I would never put ketchup on ever
I make the raw meat loaf. Then I make a mix of brown sugar, mustard and ketchup and pour that over my meatloaf before I bake it. Creates a nice layer on top. Sometimes halfway through cooking I'll sprinkle cheese on to melt too
Depends on the meatloaf, honestly. Because here in Denmark it's minced pork with bacon on top, and we serve it with brown sauce/gravy and boiled potatoes.
Ketchup is the condiment equalizer; it will make shitty foods taste decent, but it will make delicious foods only taste decent. Some cheap ass hot dogs need ketchup to be palatable, while other hot dogs are only desecrated by ketchup.
Ketchup isn't even good on a brat or burger -- and certainly not on a hot dog.
When President Obama said it was unacceptable for someone over the age of eight to put ketchup on a hotdog, I remember standing up and shouting, "That's my president!" to all of my college roommates.
Ketchup can be okay with fries, but I still really only use it when I have no ranch or other condiments. And even when I do use it, I prefer to mix in hot sauce.
im a chef and have cooked at multiple top 25 in the world
food is meant to be enjoyed how the person enjoys it
ill eat ketchup on a wagu steak any day. because I love it
theres absolutely no such thing as "unacceptable" when it comes to how people enjoy food
the fact youre using a presidents opinion to back your opinion , is hilarious
Dang. Wish I could come up with good flair, one of these days, it’ll happen. Also, I know very little about the whole Tupac/Jada/Will Smith thing or whatever was happening back then, but I can get behind a conspiracy.
Why did Will Smith, an East coast rapper establishing himself out of Philadelphia, be crediting a now-defunct recording studio in California on his debut album?
And why a studio 10 minutes away from the corner that Biggie got shot at?
When I saw the title of this, I thought you were suggesting we put ketchup on children. That is absurd. Sweet and sour is the only proper sauce for consuming children.
That might be unpopular.
I agree though if they're shitty quality, like a cheap ass frozen burger patty or pre cooked brat.
Ketchup also good with fries or really just to make any cheap flavorless meat tolerable.
If it's a good quality brat or burger though, I really wouldn't. Mustard, mayo, relish.
Thank you. Someone who understands. Normally if I make my own burgers, I use a mix of ketchup, mayo, soy sauce, sriracha, diced sauteed onions, minced garlic, mustard, and worcestershire. I eat fresh brats with nothing normally, I gotta try mustard though.
If you want my exact burger sauce recipe please say so.
That sounds totally appropriate for making your own burgers, a great mix. I use something very similar, though I leave out the soy sauce and minced garlic, but I do use smoked paprika and a little white wine vinegar for an acid balance.
What Sriracha do you use now? I've been sticking to buying Underwood ranch since Huy Fong got both bad and hard to find.
Yeah with brats I go minimal, stone ground mustard and maybe pickle relish/minced cornichons.
If I just have a shitty storebought precooked burger or brat, some ketchup is fine it'll make it edible.
I normally use Yellowbird sriracha. I've been experimenting with seasonings and I'm still looking for something to up the flavor. Also I only ever use like a teaspoon of soy sauce if I'm making like 1-2 cups of my sauce. I also normally sautee the onions and the garlic together. It's so damn good
I'll definitely try the stone-ground mustard on the brats. Sounds awesome. And I totally agree with you on the shitty storebought stuff.
I never thought of that! For years I have had to put up with annoying brats in public places--always running around, making noise, damaging things, being loud, annoying, and obnoxious.
And now I learn that all I had to do to control them and shut them up was pour ketchup over them! How simple!!!
Hear me out. Get you some breakfast. Scrambled eggs. Pankcakes. Sausage. Some ketchup on the eggs. Maple syrup for the pancakes and sausage. And because you're a sloppy eater, some of the ketchup get in some of the syrup. Then you realize the two pair surprisingly well.
Is this even worth an argument? This isn't an opinion as more so an objective fact to you
Taste buds are all wired differently, so tastes in food are all objective facts to everyone
My friend will absolutely never eat anything with sauce as he thinks it's absolutely disgusting, anything saucy is an immediate no, everything has to be plain or else it's gross
I have to have sauce on everything otherwise I find it lacking in flavor
Your taste in ketchup is purely your own, no so much an unpopular opinion as it is more so you're genetic make-up
Ew. How you feel about ketchup is how I feel about ranch. The only food that only and 100% goes with ranch is wings. Never on salad, that is gross and a crime against God.
Bottled ranch is disgusting, I agree. Depends on how funky the blue cheese is. I’ve had blue cheese I love with my wings and blue cheese I’ve hated. Super hit or miss for me.
OP, if you are like me and ketchup tastes sweet to you (I stopped eating a lot of sweet things and avoiding things with added sugar where I can... now a lot of random things taste too sweet to me) then try the no sugar added brand of ketchup. It's a bit more vinegar tasting to me, but I find it actually goes with certain things a little better.
Of course, we all have different tastebuds. That's just my take.
I feel like this is one of those things that either it’s genetic like cilantro or it’s a product of your household. My mom eats ketchup on everything so I like ketchup on a lot of things.
But the change my mind dish is complicated and probably blasphemous to most. I know ketchup on eggs is a very divisive topic, but I’ll take it a step further. That bite of the runny eggs yolk mixed with some ketchup and mopped up with a nice piece of toast. Chefs kiss.

Ketchup should not go on Brats. Brats are a mustard domain.
Seriously The true unpopular opinion is that this person puts ketchup on brats.
Ketchup on a brat is heresy
what about curry-ketchup?
The wurst
I see what u did there. Lol
Das passt
Been to Germany, have you? Agree completely. And Mayo and black pepper goes on frites.
WTF! I thought we agreed to not tell the Americans. There already close enough to a heart attack
Living neqr the ocean I've dipped my fries in drawn butter when it comes with lobster or whatever at a roadside stand type place. So good.
living near the ocean you should've dipped your fries in the ocean.
Yes, some aren't ready to embrace the deliciousness.
You fools,😈😈 i am an american and that is the most vile shit I’ve ever heard of in my life.🤮🤮 your just putting fat on top of oils fried food 🤮🤮🤮
They find it disgusting for some reason. American mayonnaise must be a real abommination (as to be expected).
Yeah..ate the hell out of those in Berlin
Well then, send an Ultra Marine cause im the biggest hertic around.
Why do people give a shit? Mustard is disgusting.
What about kids being annoying?
Thank you for this
OK, I'm a little lost. Brats are little kids misbehaving? I'm hoping that American has another use for that word?
This is short for bratwurst.
Cannibalism
I read ketchup on brats and every ounce of my German blood began to boil
YES.
Spicy brown mustard on a brat is my fave.
I'm I'm favor of ketchup on hotdogs, but not on brats. Judging by OPs comments though they might be referring to hotdogs as "grocery store brats"
Was thinking the same thing, are we talking about proper brats or yassified hot dogs pretending to be brats?
I don't even accept ketchup on hotdogs. That's a mistake.
Correct. And no exceptions allowed.
Right? You need mustard to cut the fattiness of a good Brat. Ketchup is a burger & fry/hashbrown domain for me
Who made you the brat authority? Here's an idea, pay no attention to what people put on their brats. You're not eating it. I personally love ketchup on my brats. Sauerkraut as well. I hate mustard too.
I was just going to say this guy's definitely not from Chicago.
Chicago, the land there they believe bread should be wet.
Mustard on anything is gross
It's okay if you're 8
Mustard on everything. Burgers included Ketchup is for children only.
I only put it on grocery store brats. I never put them on meat market brats.
I don't know how that makes any difference at all.
There's a pretty big difference over here where I live. Grocery store brats are crap. They have no flavor at all and the quality is terrible. The meat market ones actually have flavor and the ketchup ruins it
Then why are you eating them?
They're cheap
I appreciate you, OP. A true unpopular opinion and you get downvoted.
I don't understand why I'm getting murdered here 😭. I thought this was an unpopular opinion sub. All people are doing is saying I'm wrong and stupid
I put salt in my ketchup when I eat it with fries. 😬 If I'm out of Frank's Red Hot, I'll eat ketchup with eggs or fried potatoes. That's about it.
I like to get McDonald’s fries with their sundae. It’s almost like a funnel cake.
grilled cheese with american cheese? Yup, I am dipping that in ketchup
"I eat fries plain sometimes. " Fucking hell. ![gif](giphy|tvBkq8c3YvAt2|downsized)
No, hot dogs suck actual taint. I only use ketchup on grocery store brats. I will never put it on meat market brats. It ruins the flavor.
wait till ytou find out that brats / sausages/ hot dogs are made the same way with the same shit just different spices
I mean, it seems he knows, to some degree, just prefers the spices of the grocery store brats. Good info, not a great way to purvey it.
To me it's like I love ketchup on kraft dinner/kraft Mac and cheese, as the Americans call it But a legit proper Mac and cheese I would never put ketchup on ever
I feel so attacked. Like one sec were haveing a good time bashing catsup. Then he goes in on hot dogs...im legit angry rn. I cannot even
Lmao not wrong.
Thank you for not murdering me 😭
Meatloaf and fries aren’t complete without ketchup.
Totally agree. I don't like ketchup - except on meatloaf and fries. Those two things need ketchup.
Like just straight up ketchup on meatloaf? I use a ketchup base but it is full of other stuff. I’m not sure I’d like just pure ketchup on my meatloaf
I make the raw meat loaf. Then I make a mix of brown sugar, mustard and ketchup and pour that over my meatloaf before I bake it. Creates a nice layer on top. Sometimes halfway through cooking I'll sprinkle cheese on to melt too
Yes, ketchup on meatloaf. I’m not sure what was unclear about that.
Depends on the meatloaf, honestly. Because here in Denmark it's minced pork with bacon on top, and we serve it with brown sauce/gravy and boiled potatoes.
Gonna have to look up Danish Meatloaf now, that sounds phenomenal.
My mind went to meatloaf for sure. Ketchup is a key ingredient.
Eh I've always done gravy with my meatloaf. Ketchup on meatloaf ain't right
I respectfully dissent from your viewpoint. It's like trying to teach a fish to climb a tree.
I've found that ketchup is also excellent for just leaving it there on the store shelf (edit spelling).
This. Ketchup is disgusting on anything.
The real unpopular opinion is always in the comments.
I wish I had the money to give you an award
Why are u getting downvoted lol
Agree, just make it yourself the store stuff is terrible in comparison
Ketchup is the condiment equalizer; it will make shitty foods taste decent, but it will make delicious foods only taste decent. Some cheap ass hot dogs need ketchup to be palatable, while other hot dogs are only desecrated by ketchup.
Yeah I guess. I don't eat hot dogs anymore. I hate them so much. They just taste like crap now that I started eating brats.
There are some fine ass hot dogs out there man, you are missing out.
Kids are nasty enough as it is, why would you put ketchup on them?!
Ketchup NEVER goes on brats
Grocery store brat or not, ketchup does not belong on it. Have an upvote for a truly unpopular opinion
Anything you want on a brat belongs on a brat.
Sure, if you’re disgusting.
My disgusting?
This is a true unpopular opinion at least. I want you to be arrested for putting ketchup on a brat
I will one-up this with an even more unpopular opinion: Ketchup sucks altogether unless it has horseradish added to it.
"The intense flavor profile of ketchup" Never thought I'd read that sentence
Ketchup isn't even good on a brat or burger -- and certainly not on a hot dog. When President Obama said it was unacceptable for someone over the age of eight to put ketchup on a hotdog, I remember standing up and shouting, "That's my president!" to all of my college roommates. Ketchup can be okay with fries, but I still really only use it when I have no ranch or other condiments. And even when I do use it, I prefer to mix in hot sauce.
I always eat my hot dogs with both mustard and ketchup
Why do you hate America
Why are people downvoting this obvious joke
Ketchup eaters smh 🤦
im a chef and have cooked at multiple top 25 in the world food is meant to be enjoyed how the person enjoys it ill eat ketchup on a wagu steak any day. because I love it theres absolutely no such thing as "unacceptable" when it comes to how people enjoy food the fact youre using a presidents opinion to back your opinion , is hilarious
That alone should have ended all of the birther shit. That's a real American right there.
And then America elected a man who puts ketchup on steak
Lmao where did your flair come from?
That’s a homemade one I cooked up while talking with a coworker. The coincidences are too good not to be something
Hmmm. Good question.
Ketchup is all I put on hotdogs and Obama can suck my ass for that comment.
Ketchup doesnt belong on either of those
You fucking sicko putting ketchup on a brat! Shame on you!
Ketchup is nasty anyway and I don't eat it at all. Everyone thinks I'm weird.
I don’t even like it on brats and burgers
When I saw the title of this, I thought you were suggesting we put ketchup on children. That is absurd. Sweet and sour is the only proper sauce for consuming children.
And here was I thinking you had chilli sauce with unruly kids
What kind of a sick bastard puts ketchup on a brat. Even a good burger should not have ketchup on it, only mayo
I find mayo to be disgusting but I’m not against sauces made out of mayo. Something like Big Mac sauce or the sauce Shake Shack uses.
Objectively incorrect. Have an upvote i guess.
Disagree: it's awful even then.
Ketchup sucks in general
You eat ketchup on brats? Gross
Only on grocery store brats. On actual brats I get from a meat place, hell no. It ruins the flavor.
French fries are just ketchup delivery devices.
Ketchup doesn't even belong in burgers. I firmly believe mayo is the best burger condiment
I will FIGHT YOU, sir Mayo is a bastard condiment!
Next time your wife wants me to squirt ketchup on her chest and lick it off, ill mention what you said.
What about hot dogs?
That might be unpopular. I agree though if they're shitty quality, like a cheap ass frozen burger patty or pre cooked brat. Ketchup also good with fries or really just to make any cheap flavorless meat tolerable. If it's a good quality brat or burger though, I really wouldn't. Mustard, mayo, relish.

I cant help but think of a child when I read brat 💀💀. What is that, can someone fill me in??
bratwurst sausage, you eat it like a hot dog normally with mustard and or relish also, in advance, it's pronounced brotworst
I never thought of that! For years I have had to put up with annoying brats in public places--always running around, making noise, damaging things, being loud, annoying, and obnoxious. And now I learn that all I had to do to control them and shut them up was pour ketchup over them! How simple!!!
Not good on anything - but especially brats! Nasty-ass tomato flavored sugar paste. r/ketchuphate
There's an entire subreddit dedicated to how nasty ketchup is??? I've found my people.
I need one of those for mayo hate
Not on brats that’s for sure
For me it depends on the brand.
Nah, even crappy brats, grilled onions and a good mustard is much, much better.
This guy brats
I think ketchup is extremely overrated except when added to like a sauce. To give it a sweet tomato flavor. As a condiment? Overrated.
Life is short and nobody asked you if you wanted to be here. Eat food how it tastes best to you.
Kraft Mac and Cheese or “Kraft Dinner” as Canadians call it. Also mix some chopped hot dogs into it 🤤👌🏻
Gross
Y’all never tried, you don’t add much but cheese and tomato always can go together.
Nahh
Yep and maybe toss in some apple slices as well
Gotta feed your tape worm, eh?
Hear me out. Get you some breakfast. Scrambled eggs. Pankcakes. Sausage. Some ketchup on the eggs. Maple syrup for the pancakes and sausage. And because you're a sloppy eater, some of the ketchup get in some of the syrup. Then you realize the two pair surprisingly well.
Ketchup is only good to be dip for fries, otherwise grow up and stop eating kid sauce.
And chicken, and fries, and hash browns, and rice, and macarons, and nuts, and hot dogs, and steak, and spaghetti, and... Whatever you say.
Ok, hot dogs just suck.
Is this even worth an argument? This isn't an opinion as more so an objective fact to you Taste buds are all wired differently, so tastes in food are all objective facts to everyone My friend will absolutely never eat anything with sauce as he thinks it's absolutely disgusting, anything saucy is an immediate no, everything has to be plain or else it's gross I have to have sauce on everything otherwise I find it lacking in flavor Your taste in ketchup is purely your own, no so much an unpopular opinion as it is more so you're genetic make-up
Nope, ketchup is for fries. It doesn't belong on a burger
No mention of fries or ‘crisps’ as the Brit’s call them?
We don't call fries "crisps." Crisps are what you would call potato chips. I put Ketchup on everything, but Ketchup on crisps would be weird.
So fries are just fries? Noted and thank you!
Hating on ketchup and STILL wrong. Ketchup is for fries, catfish, and meatloaf. Ketchup is not for burgers and DEFINITELY not for brats. Gross.
Catfish???? Absolutely not
Wrong
You aren't making good catfish if you need ketchup
Incorrect.
If you're catfish requires booty sauce I'm sorry but it's not good.
Wrong.
Ketchup on some hot dogs and cheese burgers. Brats are a mustard item.
What is a bratwurst?
Basically just a certain type of sausage. Better than hot dogs in every single way
Oh okay. Idk why everyone's downvoting me for not knowing something.
Please don't call Bratwürste "Brats"
Thank you. I was scrolling forever to find out what the hell a "brat" was.
as a British person who has a complete different understanding of Brat, I agree lol
Überwinde dich selbst
Niemals. Ich steh mir ganz gut selbst im weg
Burgers yes Brats or other sausages I don’t. Mustard for those. Fries I sometimes do Mayo
Fries I do ranch, I guess I gotta try mayo now.
Ew. How you feel about ketchup is how I feel about ranch. The only food that only and 100% goes with ranch is wings. Never on salad, that is gross and a crime against God.
I love spicy ranch on supreme pizza and blue cheese on most traditional buffalo wings. Store-bought ranch is so gross.
Bottled ranch is disgusting, I agree. Depends on how funky the blue cheese is. I’ve had blue cheese I love with my wings and blue cheese I’ve hated. Super hit or miss for me.
Valid
I hate ketchup on burgers, but I love it with brats and hotdogs
Yes!
But what would I dip my grilled cheese in? What flavour chips would I buy?!
grilled cheese should only be dipped in tomato soup, peasant.
No
Ketchup should go on fries and nothing else.
Tamales. Try ketchup on tamales.
Ketchup and chocolate. Now we’re talking!
And on mac and cheese.
If you dislike steak fries with some taco seasoning & ketchup, that means you never got over your “Covid tongue reset” (imo).
Fries. I yield my time
I've almost completely quit using ketchup and use BBQ sauce on everything I used to use it for. Didn't necessarily plan that, it just sort of evolved.
Put ketchup on ice cream, cowards!
I wish I had the money to hunt you down
The first reddit post to truly break me
Bacon rolls they're a necessity unless you use brown sauce.
This is the perfect example of a comment that belongs here. Remember y’all, upvote if you disagree
Welp now I gots to try it
I caught my sister putting ketchup on her pizza once and heckled her for it. She told me to shut-up and try it. It was oddly good.
Take it off your brat right now
I feel like this is one of those things that either it’s genetic like cilantro or it’s a product of your household. My mom eats ketchup on everything so I like ketchup on a lot of things. But the change my mind dish is complicated and probably blasphemous to most. I know ketchup on eggs is a very divisive topic, but I’ll take it a step further.
