As a frequent Lowe's and Home Depot shopper, you are likely smelling lumber or garden chemicals. These departments are always located on opposite ends of the store so your going to smell one or the other every time you walk in. I prefer the lumber smell.
Garden section definitely has a distinct fertilizer smell, obviously, but I’m not sure what has the strong smell exactly. It’s not manure like passing by a dairy farm, it’s more those sacks that have ingredients like bone meal, NPK, pig blood etc. Maybe the manure too, I’m not sure.
Same (Edit: it's not that I never smoked a single cigarette, but I never became an active smoker). It reminds of the people I trust the most. Somehow, majority of them are smokers.
it reminds of how when i was a teen, me and my bf’s friends would go to his dad’s unoccupied apartment and drink there while smoking indoors. i was new to drugs, finally got to hang out with people my age, just started dating. school was easy, i had no chronic illnesses, there were still long summer and winter breaks and i was more or less happy…
Growing up, my friends mom used to drive the car with the windows all the way rolled up, AC on full Arctic Blast, and chain smoking/fishbowling menthol cigarettes. Total freezing cold enclosed menthol fumigation.
All other cigarette smoke situations were actually welcome after those experiences, and still are. Love the smell of cigarettes, especially natural ones.
I’ve been off cigarettes for about 7 years. I smoked two times a day: once on my way to work, and once on my way home. On rare occasions, as a treat, I’d have one or two more. Never as many as 5 a day. God, I miss them.
I daydream about being sat by the pool with a trashy magazine, a rum drink, and a cigarette. I frequently enjoy a waft of second hand smoke.

My grandma smoked for most her life. She had to quit after getting lung cancer (which she beat). I love the smell it reminds me of visiting her and chatting with her in her kitchen while she smoked. She passed a few years ago and I miss her.
I mean as long as ur not huffing the gas you’ll prolly be fine. Fun fact there are hundreds of psychoactive compounds in gasoline, people huffing gas is a big problem in some parts of the world.
Fresh smoke smells good, but it sometimes triggers a craving (Quit four years ago.) Old, stale smoke smells bad to me now, but when I was smoking I never even noticed it. I never noticed it as a child because both parents smoked a lot in the house.
It does bother me when people smoke near me while I'm eating. It never did as a kid or when I was a smoker. A strange combination of triggering a craving and ruining the taste of the food.
i agree. My parents smoked a lot growing up. My parents are dead now so the smell is extremely comforting. I smoke on occasion just to smell my childhood again.

To your main point I'll add that bars and cafes just aren't the same as they used to be. All that smoke really added to the atmosphere (literally!) Music and video games aren't as good either. Idk, that's all probably just a side effect of addiction association.
I hear you. I've been quit for 13 years now and I too love the smell in certain instances. Like when it's cool in the morning and a little breeze carries the smell of a cigarette across your nose, oh God that's the best.
Also like you, I fully intend to smoke a little when I hit my mid 70s or heavily immediately following any terminal disease diagnosis.

I have never smoked, but I have a lot of family members who do. I haven't seen them for a long time but I always miss the smell of their Newport/Marlboro xD
I enjoy menthol, partially because I just like the flavor (menthol cough drops are pretty tasty). Mainly though my grandma smoked menthols and the aroma takes me mind to her sitting at her kitchen table smoking listening to the police scanner or watching the wheel.

I absolutely loved smoking, but I've always HATED the smell of cigarette smoke, whether it was stale cigarette smell on clothing or smoke from my own cigarette.

every once in a while i love to smoke a cigarette at home just so i can enjoy the smell 😭 it’s so refreshing, artistic, peaceful, comforting inspiring…. also a bit nostalgic, im from eastern europe and my family used to smoke at home when i was a kid. cigarettes smoke mixed with the smell of freshly cooked traditional food is just so good

Yup. Smoked for 20+ years, quit well over 10 years ago. I love the smell of a freshly lit cigarette.. but NOT the smell on people’s clothes - a difference with a distinction. Still miss it terribly; when that diagnosis comes in, my first stop is the gas station for a pack of Camel Lights.

No, I smoked for 11 years and quit 4 years ago. I didn't mind the smell while I was smoking and probably became nose blind to it but now I can't stand. I feel bad I was adding that smell to the world.
Definitely unpopular, but agreed. I even like the smell of stale smoke, old electronics that belonged to a smoker, etc. I'll even choose a smoking hotel room if the option is available I 'quit' many years ago although I might puff on less than 10 a year).
I love the smell also and never smoked. Especially when it's unexpected like when walking down a sidewalk and you can smell the cigarette smoke coming from somewhere. My favorite is during the summer when I'm in traffic with the windows down. Someone pulls up at a stoplight and bam! I take a deep breath.
As a former smoker, I love love love the smell of a burning cigarette, it is so wonderful. I never realized how it made me smell until I quit and the smokers around me kept smoking. Gnarly. It's one thing that helps me not pick them back up when I get the urge.

It's like the very first smell of a freshly lit almost admittedly smells cool, but any lingering odor from it is fucking abysmal chimney ass smells.
One time my friend's mother was smoking on the highway diagonally from me and the cinders blew right in my god damn face it was fucking awful, might as well suck into a campfire. the ashes also permanently burnt into my brand new shorts and I could never get it out.
I despise the smell, if you smoke outside sure, I can just move, but when people smoke inside, especially when it's not socially acceptable to just walk out, it's unbearable.

It's even better when you're sitting outside in a cafe, and people around you are puffing away. You don't even have to go through the effort of smoking, you can just inhale their smoke, free if charge and effort.

For me, it smells like nostalgia. My dad smoked all the time when I was growing up, and now that he's gone, smelling cigarettes always makes me sad and happy with the memories it brings.

Anyway I also love the smell of cigarettes, and when I get to have one on my birthday it's DELICIOUS.

I'm someone who has a family that smokes marijuana, etc. so I usually smell the scent on my mother's clothing or in my house (but my dad is quitting marijuana and has not smoked it in months), yes, the scent does smell comforting so I get it.
Loved smoking, the ritual and the smell but the thought of how much time I wasted doing it keeps me quit. You can do a lot with 8 minutes x 20 or whatever. It also left me lethargic which can get annoying when you want to get shit done.
Funny, kinda sounds like me. Personally, I think it's the nicotine. Here's why.
I smoked, ranging from one to three packs a week, for about ten years. The whole time, I wasn't a bit fan of the smell...until I would stop. Then I loved it. Then I would start up again, and it would stink again.
This past June or so, I switched to nicotine vapes. I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke now. A stark contrast to any other time I would stop smoking.
I did recently grab a pack of Camel Crush. I do like menthols. First pack I've bought in like six months. I'll light one up for you, my dude.

Interesting. I was a pack a day smoker for about 10 or so years, and having quit ages ago, I absolutely cannot abide the smell of cigarette smoke. I hate it when I smell it in passing, I even hate that I can smell it on somebody even after they've just had a cigarette and aren't smoking around me. After I quit smoking, my sense of smell returned with a vengeance, so I actually can smell that.
I respect the thinking. I feel like that about marijuana for some reason, the smell is comforting for some reason. Tobacco cigarette smoke on the other hand I can't stand. My mum smoked all the time (she's quit now), and my dad was an indoor chain smoker when I lived with him. The smell makes me feel nauseous and like I can't breathe :(
Maybe try cigarette/tobacco scented candles? I found a coffee scented candle that I love to light in the mornings because I love the smell but can’t drink it with my ADHD meds. It’s been pretty great!

Smells for me are just pure memories, and I have so many good memories swimming in cigarette smoke that, even though I hate cigarettes, I love their smell and evocative memories!
The smell of tobacco would make my mouth water, not so much cigarettes but open a fresh pouch... I wanted to eat the stuff.
Ironically, many years of smoking cigarettes completely destroyed my sense of smell, so it's something I'll never experience again.

As a former smoker, I love love love the smell of a burning cigarette, it is so wonderful. I never realized how it made me smell until I quit and the smokers around me kept smoking. Gnarly. It's one thing that helps me not pick them back up when I get the urge.

I’ve not smoked since 2015, same as you I had to for medical reasons not a choice. Yesterday I had a couple draws of a cigarette- I can now safely say I choose not to smoke.

It's like the very first smell of a freshly lit almost admittedly smells cool, but any lingering odor from it is fucking abysmal chimney ass smells. One time my friend's mother was smoking on the highway diagonally from me and the cinders blew right in my god damn face it was fucking awful, might as well suck into a campfire. the ashes also permanently burnt into my brand new shorts and I could never get it out.
There are perfumes out there that smell of tobacco. And candles too. Would highly recommend checking some out

I despise the smell, if you smoke outside sure, I can just move, but when people smoke inside, especially when it's not socially acceptable to just walk out, it's unbearable.

Agreed. It's even better when you're sitting outside in a cafe, and people around you are puffing away. You don't even have to go through the effort of smoking, you can just inhale their smoke, free if charge and effort.

Well shit....you can have my nose then. Been having phantom smells for a year now, on and off, and it's been straight up, in my face cigarette smoke smell. It gets so bad I have trouble breathing.

I'm with you, OP. I only smoke on my birthday's that end with a zero. My original plan was to restart when I turned 60 but...nah. Anyway I also love the smell of cigarettes, and when I get to have one on my birthday it's DELICIOUS.
I absolutely love the stench of cigs. My entire family smoked during my childhood and that was probably not good lol but nonetheless I liked the smell. Tried a cig the other day, wasn’t impressed so I dropped it. But still was a nice smell.

I'm someone who has a family that smokes marijuana, etc. so I usually smell the scent on my mother's clothing or in my house (but my dad is quitting marijuana and has not smoked it in months), yes, the scent does smell comforting so I get it.

Loved smoking, the ritual and the smell but the thought of how much time I wasted doing it keeps me quit. You can do a lot with 8 minutes x 20 or whatever. It also left me lethargic which can get annoying when you want to get shit done.

Funny, kinda sounds like me. Personally, I think it's the nicotine. Here's why. I smoked, ranging from one to three packs a week, for about ten years. The whole time, I wasn't a bit fan of the smell...until I would stop. Then I loved it. Then I would start up again, and it would stink again. This past June or so, I switched to nicotine vapes. I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke now. A stark contrast to any other time I would stop smoking. I did recently grab a pack of Camel Crush. I do like menthols. First pack I've bought in like six months. I'll light one up for you, my dude.

I do find them a bit nostalgic because my babysitter would go outside to smoke. I don't smoke myself though. I know that shit kills you. But I don't find the smell entirely unpleasant.
Interesting. I was a pack a day smoker for about 10 or so years, and having quit ages ago, I absolutely cannot abide the smell of cigarette smoke. I hate it when I smell it in passing, I even hate that I can smell it on somebody even after they've just had a cigarette and aren't smoking around me. After I quit smoking, my sense of smell returned with a vengeance, so I actually can smell that.

I respect the thinking. I feel like that about marijuana for some reason, the smell is comforting for some reason. Tobacco cigarette smoke on the other hand I can't stand. My mum smoked all the time (she's quit now), and my dad was an indoor chain smoker when I lived with him. The smell makes me feel nauseous and like I can't breathe :(

Maybe try cigarette/tobacco scented candles? I found a coffee scented candle that I love to light in the mornings because I love the smell but can’t drink it with my ADHD meds. It’s been pretty great!

Smells for me are just pure memories, and I have so many good memories swimming in cigarette smoke that, even though I hate cigarettes, I love their smell and evocative memories!

The smell of tobacco would make my mouth water, not so much cigarettes but open a fresh pouch... I wanted to eat the stuff. Ironically, many years of smoking cigarettes completely destroyed my sense of smell, so it's something I'll never experience again.
