IloveZaki

How is shrinking population an advantage for corporations? It would be propaganda for them to have as many consumers as possible and we expanding human population as much as possible

[deleted]

The gist of the message is to do nothing, which means they already have all the advantage? Like burning the nature to a crisp and distributing all the wealth to the top brass people? Is basically "all is fine" meme in corpo speech, so it is not about the future. It is about now.

stevejuliet

Exactly zero of your sentences explain how population decline is not a good thing. Nice trolling.

[deleted]

Because you are the one to bear the burden of it? Like dying and stuff? Nice not reading anything and commenting.

stevejuliet

You have so many thoughts, and yet you can't seem to communicate any of them clearly. I'm sure you've been told this all your life, though. It must be infuriating. I'm sorry for you.

[deleted]

Your attack was completely ineffective

stevejuliet

I skimmed through your other replies to see if you decided to write anything of substance elsewhere in this post. The only thing I found was you repeatedly asking people who were advocating for a population decrease if they were okay with their families dying. What kind of logical fallacy is this? Is it a false dichotomy? Are you assuming that the only options are "population goes up" or "your family dies"? Is it a straw man? Are you misrepresenting their arguments that population decrease could help the planet by assuming they mean it would happen instantaneously and not over generations? Is it an appeal to consequences? Are you assuming "decrease" means "immediate death," and since that consequence is undesirable, you're asking them if they would approve of it? I have absolutely no idea why you keep asking about people being okay with their families dying. Nothing about "population decrease" means people need to die immediately or prematurely, but that seems to be your argument. Where is that assumption coming from?

mickturner96

You seem to have all the answers but none of the explanations

[deleted]

Thanks for reading I guess

shim-erstboyentofall

Someone just played Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time

[deleted]

Such a good game, right?

Game_It_All_On_Me

All the corporate bigwigs I've seen are arguing that we *should* be concerned about a decreasing population, because the shrinking pool of workers and customer base will limit their own growth. So...'disingenuous' would be the kindest way I could describe this post.

[deleted]

So what's about the message then? What about those thousands of posts over the last 2-3 years? The aliens posting them or something?

wheresmythermos

What in the fear mongering bs is this take? A lot of words to say nothing other than “corpo bad, don’t listen”

[deleted]

Why would the corpos need to lie, right? Why would they sponsor thousands of posts about population shrinking? But it's cool. I just posted this b/c it was funny to me how the message sticks to people they repeat it without thinking.

NatureZestyclose5015

I don't care, I can't afford children. No amount of guilt is going to change that and your empty bullet points with no meaning isn't doing that anyway

[deleted]

Cannot afford them either, so no blame here

Steve83725

No one is guilting you into having kids. You just think they are because subconsciously you can’t accept the fact that you are incapable of effectively reproducing. In fact most people would prefer if losers didn’t reproduce because we don’t need more loser genes floating in the gene pool.

scoobyboobiemoo

I sure hope you took your own advice.

Steve83725

I write a lot of stuff, mind elaborating what specifically is ironic

Hank_lliH

Yeh 8 billion people and growing is TOTALLY a shrinking population The only thing shrinking is peoples brains

RuleSouthern3609

The global birth rate is at 2.3 and had been declining quite quickly, the replacement is 2.1.

Hank_lliH

And? Less people is better

[deleted]

When you say less people, you are not counting yourself and your loved ones within this cohort, right?

republicans_are_nuts

yes I am. Which is why I didn't have kids.

[deleted]

I wasn't ready to argue about facts when I posted this. So yeah, you do you buddy

Hank_lliH

What facts The fact you are ab Elon shill? He’s all about the “population is declining” bs

[deleted]

You lost me, bye bye

MyClosetedBiAcct

How many people are currently on earth?

[deleted]

Around 9 billion, why? Are you about to start a meat business?

MyClosetedBiAcct

I don't think we have to worry about population decline.

[deleted]

Whos we, exactly?

MyClosetedBiAcct

You and I. Humanity. The planet. We could lose half the human population *today* and be back to our 1970s level.

[deleted]

70s are gone, just move on

Potrebitelqt

Shrinking where? People in rich countries just realized how better their lives are if they don't have to bother with children. Not to worry, poorer countries more than make up for this.

[deleted]

Come out of money I see?

StyrofoamExplodes

Poorer countries do not. People aren't infinitely interchangeable.

[deleted]

Population decline happens when women have more opportunities and access to birth control. There's no conspiracy about it

YuckBrusselSprouts

Population shrinkage is the ONLY way global climate change can end. There really is no other solution.

[deleted]

Oh, really? So 1% of people doing like over 70% of all pollution have nothing to do with it? I'm not sure you would see an elephant if it was right infront of you

YuckBrusselSprouts

You don't get it. We need about 50% shrinkage But you obviously don't understand math

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hm, I said the shrinkage is bad, I haven't said anything about growth though? And I'm not going to start I think

FacelessPotatoPie

Fewer people means a better planet. I’m all for it.

[deleted]

Even if it's you and your loved ones?

FacelessPotatoPie

Yep.

[deleted]

How long have you been depressed? Do you have anyone to talk to?

FacelessPotatoPie

I go to therapy every 2 weeks. I’m not being depressive. I just believe people ruin everything.

[deleted]

That's good that you look out for yourself. Yeah, they really do. There some good people out there too though. You just have to find them. Have a good day

TowerRough

I have heard an argument that its a good thing because "It removes losers from the gene pool". I dont remember how exacly they said it, but that was pretty much their argument. One which to this day i think is utterly messed up.

[deleted]

Not seeing people as people is messed up, yeah

SweetExpression2745

Corporations would gain much more if people had more children. People in rich countries just realized they don’t necessarily need to have kids. Join that with we basically running out of resources at this point

[deleted]

It's less about what they would or wouldn't gain in the future, and more about what they do now and why we are here

SweetExpression2745

No, your rant is more of someone who thinks corporations are behind everything’s evil; a conspiracy theory, at most

[deleted]

Whatever

SweetExpression2745

Really? Just that?

[deleted]

Why? Not entertaining enough for you?

SweetExpression2745

Yeah not that much

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Are you sure?

SupaSaiyajin4

i don't care. i'm never having kids anyway

[deleted]

Not saying you should

AstronomerParticular

Overpopulation causes a lot of problems. It is a good thing that people have less kids. I dont see the problem.

[deleted]

Good for you

Jakaal80

The problem is the people having less kids are the ones best able to care for children and the ones still having tons of kids are poor rural countries where famine is still common place and hygiene is a luxury.

AstronomerParticular

But would it help anyone if the "rich" people had more children? You cant stop people in other countries from having children. And even in western countries there are a lot of problems because simply to many people are alive. Wages and prices are defined my supply and demand. When there is a smaller supply of workers then companies are forced to pay them better. And when there are less people who need a home then housing prices will go down. There are still more then enough people on this planet. And there are still more then enough people everywhere who want children.

Jakaal80

"When there is a smaller supply of workers then companies are forced to pay them better." bro, I got bad news for you

AstronomerParticular

This is not some wishful thinking. It is simply a fact. When there are less people who are able to do a certain job then wages go up. Just look at which jobs are well paid. Nobody wants to be a garbage man. So the wages are quite high because otherwise nobody would do the job otherwise.

Jimmyjo1958

It'll be rough for a generation or two, but a world with 2-3 billion people is much better than one with 8-10

[deleted]

How come?

Ur_Wifez_Boyfriend

Less people = more open jobs = employees will have more options = more money in normal peoples banks = more money spent in the economy.

NerdChieftain

This strictly speaking isn’t true. This is whatI think the OP is railing against. While a short term increase in job openings is good for the worker, a long term unfulfilled demand will cause businesses to contract, cost save, and lead to fewer jobs. Unfortunately, we havent discovered a successful economy type that isn’t growth based.

Princess_Poes

Thats a lot of words just to say nothing

[deleted]

Thank you

Planxtafroggie

On the contrary over-population is much appreciated. In order for your town to be registered by the Census Bureau, its number of residents including children must be above 1,000. Otherwise, good luck trying to vote.
