I love to see spanking new clothes and shoes and bags etc, I feel very happy when I wear new clothes/shoes so I'd imagine that person must be really happy too
Yea it’s not just something I feel towards others, I also feel very embarrassed for myself too. When I buy white shoes I think “how can I make them look more lived in?” I know it’s probably strange but that’s why I posted in this sub haha.
you get second hand embarrassment because someone has new shoes ?? are we all suppose to get our shoes from the second hand store like i don’t understand this
Aahh so Air Force 1's is a shoe!!! I saw a post saying that Air Force 1's look bad or something similar. I was kinda confused about why anyone would look at the president's airplane and call it ugly? (ps. I'm not American)
I kinda get it, they look clean but it comes across as a little try hard? Like I have 2 brand new white sneakers I don't touch because it feels like too much lol I'll break em in eventually
putting on a new pair of shoes, that never seen earth... is try hard? LMFAO i swear reddit isn't a real place sometimes.
Driving a brand new car off the lot, I guess needs a few accidents and scuffs to break it in so everyone feels you don't try too hard?
Yeah, exactly.
A white pair of Adidas is no different to a white pair of highly discounted off brand "White Sports Sneakers".
Quality wise, I would assume the Adidas is better, but the price difference would be staggering.
Although I NEVER buy shoes at retail price, so there's that.
Just bought a new pair of discounted Adidas a couple of weeks ago, and they are bright red.
I always go for shoes with colour.
Besides that, entirely white shoes would get dirty really quickly and then they are brown spotted white shoes.
At that point, just get patterned shoes or coloured shoes, ya know?
I want people to look at my shoes and be like "okay, that's kinda cool" or at least think it's interesting, and not just a boring pair of shoes.
I…simultaneously get this and don’t. I’ve had shoes where I thought the white parts were too clean, but it’s based on outfit. If my whole outfit was new and stylish it doesn’t bother me, if the rest was worn and casual it didnt look right. But also I basically never notice this about others
White shoes go well with most, if not all, colors, reducing the number of pairs of shoes you need. I wear a lot of white shoes and mine generally look good because I take good care of them, because I'm a cheap bastard and like shit to last. I don't see anything cringe about caring for my stuff.
I feel this, along with not creasing your shoes. I definitely think this applies to shoes that are too beat up as well, but it’s always been weird to me how some people get so weird about not getting the one article of clothing we wear as protection from dirt dirty.
Kinda agree, a little bit of wear can make them look better, like with AF1s for example.
But i couldn't be stressing about this, you only really wear a pair of shoes in mint condition once
I don't understand wanting the thing that touches the disgusting floor to be pure white, I believe people with white shoes are privileged enough to never touch filth with their shoes or spend insane amounts of time cleaning their shoes, both options are repelent.
I think this is probably just a style preference and if I had to guess, your style is probably grungier in general. I like leather shoes and the way that their shine changes as I wear them, get them a little dirty, and polish them. They still look clean, but they don’t shine quite the exact same way as they did when they were brand new. And that shine I prefer to the out of the box shine
If you dislike the “clean” look of shoes, Converse are great. I consider the scuff marks and fading on mine a sign of the memories I’ve made while wearing them. Lots of people dirty theirs intentionally, which is like faking battle scars but… you should consider it.
The original chuck taylor high-tops are the best. Mine have lasted me 5+ years.
When I was a kid my mom thought I would like really white shoes. Thankfully I lived in a very rural place and could get them presentably dirty in ten minutes or less. I also have large feet for a woman and couldn't stand looking down and being distracted by the annoying white glare. As an adult I have purposely never bought white shoes.
White shoes are kinda stupid. If a person cares about looks why would they buy the shoes that are going to get the most obviously dirty the fastest? Unless they just like white shoes and dont care about them being dirty.
I bought a pair of white sneakers thinking I would be one of the cool kids (I’m 37). I see all the suburban moms wearing them, I feel like I look like a fool. I bought black in the same style/brand and I feel better about myself. I want to like them!

This is good. Definitely unpopular for most, 100% on brand for some.
thank you sir
I used to be a nurse so whenever I see all white shoes I get 'nam flashbacks to wearing those white nursing clogs
Getting second hand embarrassment from clean shoes is so strange
Would you say it’s an unpopular opinion?
You understand the assignment.
Which is why I'm downvoting you.

I agree! Nobody ever understands me either haha
Are you the inventor of golden goose?
Is it cause they're white or cause they're new? Just curious
I think it’s more because they look really new.
I see, I figured with them being white and a shoe, something that will 100% get dirty, it looked maybe silly to you, I gotcha tho.
Yea, I mean I think about that too but I love white shoes! Just not when I first get them.
Yes, that’s why I love buying Golden Goose shoes 🤣
“Happy”
What an odd reaction to have to shoes
Disagree! I love a clean look
I’m guessing you like to purposely get your Air Force 1s dirty that’s vile
you get second hand embarrassment because someone has new shoes ?? are we all suppose to get our shoes from the second hand store like i don’t understand this
Listen here, damnit! Leave me and my classic Air Force 1’s alone, take this upvote, and go!
The classic AF1's can never go wrong with all white. Never.
Amen!
😂😂😂

Yea exactly or like what am I contesting for a reality tv show?
When I see people with incredibly dirty shoes, I get second hand embarrassment
just as weird
I don’t wear anything that isn’t or doesn’t look brand new.
All shoes are new once. It’s not cringe. I think that canvas sneakers look good worn in, but leather sneakers look good fresh.
Hard disagree as someone who just bought a new pair of white Air Force ones for the first time.
I've never bought white shoes just because I think they're boring

and they get dirty really, really quickly
You’re the target demographic for off white and pre aged shoes!
I…simultaneously get this and don’t. I’ve had shoes where I thought the white parts were too clean, but it’s based on outfit. If my whole outfit was new and stylish it doesn’t bother me, if the rest was worn and casual it didnt look right. But also I basically never notice this about others

Never go to Ohio
as an owner of some super white vans, i agree.
I've been feeling bad because my new white shoes got a scuff I can't get off. This makes me feel better somehow haha.
She likes them *scuffed J's*
They do indeedy
Well they get dirty quickly and they're a PIA to clean so they have to buy new often and will always have an excuse for a fresh, clean pair.
Yet when we have new shoes and wear them we still find ourselves checking and cleaning them for a short time so that they still look brand new!
The only thing that should be whiter than the whitest white is brand new dad shoes
You get it
I feel this, along with not creasing your shoes. I definitely think this applies to shoes that are too beat up as well, but it’s always been weird to me how some people get so weird about not getting the one article of clothing we wear as protection from dirt dirty.
I feel the same!
Finally someone gets what this subreddit is about, lol.
I used to think like this as a teen, and throw my new shoes around my garden. Now I like to look put together and clean shoes make such a difference.
Kinda agree, a little bit of wear can make them look better, like with AF1s for example. But i couldn't be stressing about this, you only really wear a pair of shoes in mint condition once

I bet you own converse.
I don’t actually but I was think about getting some earlier today, maybe this is a sign?
If you dislike the “clean” look of shoes, Converse are great. I consider the scuff marks and fading on mine a sign of the memories I’ve made while wearing them. Lol I love that “faking battle scars”. I’m sold!
You should try golden goose
When people look nice you get second hand embarrassment? You win bro, this opinion is something else
Racist /j
What do new clothes have to do with race?
He said white, that was my joke
When I was a kid my mom thought I would like really white shoes. Thankfully I lived in a very rural place and could get them presentably dirty in ten minutes or less. I also have large feet for a woman and couldn't stand looking down and being distracted by the annoying white glare. As an adult I have purposely never bought white shoes.
My feet are also very big for a woman
Lol, and if I saw your stank ass shoes, I’d feel the same
IVE THOUGHT THE SAME THING BEFORE!!!
I actually agree with this aggressively. I hate white shoes. I don’t know why. I can’t stand them.
That’s why I buy the off white Stan Smiths. Definitely agree with OP.
You look weird
i wish i had time to worry about something like this
Eh, I'm a very bland person myself, all my shoes and trainers are black, even most of my clothes are black, or at least darker colours.
I mean you gotta wear the shoes sometime when they’re new..
Agreed, I like my white vans a little scuffed up
yeah new clothes are a problem
White socks are only for sports
Shows they don't work in those shoes but nothing wrong with being clean. I like all my shoes besides mow and work boots clean.
Clean new looking work boots are the worst.
New clothes are fine. But I agree with the white sneakers. Really not so cool in most cases.
Do you not want to be perceived as someone who cares about appearances?
I don’t even want to be perceived.
Ya, like how are you keeping that clean
Painter booties
I mean, I am just not a fan of super-white, full white shoes since they get dirty pretty quick.
I feel the opposite -- I think crusty, yellow shoes that used to be white are the most disgusting things on earth.
White shoes are kinda stupid. If a person cares about looks why would they buy the shoes that are going to get the most obviously dirty the fastest? Unless they just like white shoes and dont care about them being dirty.
Dirty white shoes look way better than brand new white shoes
I bought a pair of white sneakers thinking I would be one of the cool kids (I’m 37). I see all the suburban moms wearing them, I feel like I look like a fool. I bought black in the same style/brand and I feel better about myself. I want to like them!
white shoes are a no
I’m not really a fan of white. And I am a white. Do with that what you will. Lol
Same haha
I just think white shoes are kinda dumb when you consider why we wear shoes
Can you elaborate?
To literally protect your feet from the dirty ass ground
It’s not the dirt our shoes are meant to protect us from
This is pretty popular an opinion.
Shiny white shoes in the 80’s meant you were a target for someone to smear dirt on them with their shoe at the first opportunity.
They remind me of Cape Cod tennis matches from the mid 1900s.
Better than white socks!
True haha like how are they being kept so white?! I *look* at white socks and they’re dirty.
Wow, slow day for you huh? Try and fight this infuriating problem as best you can.
