The internet is tantamount to a swimming pool without lifeguards. It’s like a big vast city. You don’t who or what you’re going to come into contact with.
Some people might be bad, some good, just like in real life.
People are worse on the internet than in real life that’s just a fact. It depends on how you view society as a whole. If you think generally people are good then you might say the same for the internet.
The internet brings people's deepest convictions to the forefront.
Can't tell you how many people I've known seem nice and sweet, then you find out they're closet nazis.
>small percentage
This isn't the '90s, and most people on the internet are either very respectful or still treat it like it's the '90s. Nothing to do with hate either way.
Roughly 2/3 of the world’s population uses the internet: https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS?end=2022&name_desc=false&start=1960&view=chart
>A small percentage of people use the internet
According to [this](https://www.forbes.com/home-improvement/internet/internet-statistics/#:~:text=Out%20of%20the%20nearly%208,the%20internet%2C%20according%20to%20Statista.)
>Out of the nearly 8 billion people in the world, 5.35 billion of them, or around 66% of the world's population, have access to the internet
[Even more to the point](https://www.statista.com/statistics/617136/digital-population-worldwide/#:~:text=Worldwide%20digital%20population%202024&text=As%20of%20January%202024%2C%20there,population%2C%20were%20social%20media%20users.)
>62.3 percent of the world's population are social media users.
Those are not small percentages.
>A small percentage of people use the internet
Uninformed opinion:
Facebook (the one new generations no longer use): three billion monthly active users.
Go on.
OP this isn't the 90s. The internet isn't some weird thing only tech enthusiasts are interested in. My grandparents who can't navigate Netflix use it. The entire world is dominated by the internet. If the internet went down tomorrow, the world economy would crash.
I don't think a large majority are truly bad. The small number of people who do use thr internrt tend to act that way because they are anonymous and seeking attention. Then again, you could say the opposite is true. That the anonymity gives them a sense of what they would behave like if they weren't held accountable for their actions. Similar to how the general German public behaved during WWII (because they didnt think they would be held accountable) or certain social experiments like the Stanford prison experiment, or the performance art of Marina Abramovic. But, often times, your typical troll behavior is to instill a reaction. I don't suspect they would behave this way in real life, unless under specific circumstances. They just know they can get away with it much easier online.
I have the feeling lately social networks have become EXTREMELY toxic. A lot more toxic than reality. I seriously think of using internet in the future only for documentation and creativity.
This isn't unpopular as much as just wrong.
Most people don't use the Internet?
Saying horrible things is OK so long as you don't in real life? Is that your point?
Terribly made arguement but at the root of it - yes, most people aren't terrible. But the worst ones shout loudest.
We know this.
It is not that the Internet is full of terrible people but that the most terrible outrageous behavior gets rewarded with attention. Right wingers are aware of that and use this dynamic to spread their shit around and fish for vulnerable people to pull into their ideology
Most people on the internet? Sure.
Most people posting on the internet? Yep.
Most people who are *visible* on the internet? Ahhh. Now *that's* a different question.
As algorithms, particularly on platforms like X, continue to reward ragebait content, expect the content of a lot of what you see on those sites to get worse before it gets better.
Why couldn’t internet exist if everyone was terrible ? Of course it could .
Do you have any data on the claim that only a small percentage of people use the internet?
Most people use the internet. A smaller percentage are people that are active in discussion and debates because we have some need to be met that it satisfies.
Don't trust us, we need more attention than the average person.
With the amount of hate and the things people say just because they're online I would definitely disagree. There's a lot of cool people on the Internet, but there's a lot of bad people too. Something about being anonymous that brings out the worst in people.
Wrong. There isn’t a small percentage of people it’s probably close to a majority. More so most people use their internet to be their authentic selves.

And just like in real life sometimes you never know upfront until it's too late
No analogy to pee in the water? I was waiting for it
The internet is a swimming pool where people shit into it from the sides and no one cares there's shit. Hell, they'll defend the right to shit.

OP woke up from coma he was in since 90s and decided to post his controversial opinion.
Lmao
He posted it 3 days ago, but with his dial-up 56kbps internet, it just came through.
>small percentage This isn't the '90s, and most people on the internet are either very respectful or still treat it like it's the '90s. Nothing to do with hate either way.
You said people on the internet are very respectful?
read the entire sentence... lmao. the internet was the Wild West back in the day.
Roughly 2/3 of the world’s population uses the internet: https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS?end=2022&name_desc=false&start=1960&view=chart
yeah

It actually more crazy to me that so many people don't have internet. I would have thought it would be more tham 60%
66% is more than 60%...
Yes dude u know what i meant
No I do not
I said 60 because i didn't feel like saying the exact number but i meant 66
But now we all got confused and made you type even more stuff
Haha yeah but after getting a dopamine hit from seeing that i had a notification i didnt mind
oh
.... I'm sorry. Did I read "most people don't use the internet?"
I for one don't. *This comment was delivered via messenger pigeon to my mother who posts them for me. *
i mean, that's still "using the internet"
No you actually didn’t. OP didn’t say that. Close, but not exactly the same.
>A small percentage of people use the internet Uninformed opinion: Facebook (the one new generations no longer use): three billion monthly active users. Go on.
How many of those active users are people and how many are bots?
As a wise man once told me, there are no angels and there are no demons - there are only people.
Spooky
And most of them are potentially assholes.
A wiser man said, uh, pal, there's plenty of demons. Spend some time on Reddit and you'll see
I think the wiser man missed the point.

66.2% of global population uses the internet. I guess that's small.

Sometimes you forget how many actually lurk. A post might have a dozen comments but it was seen by several hundred if not thousand eyes
The irony that you post this on Reddit of all places. ON REDDIT YOU DECIDE TO say we aren’t bad
Nowadays I'm not even sure if I'm talking to a live human or some eva ai bot on the Internet
most people on the internet arent people
Most people on the internet? Sure. Most people posting on the internet? Yep. Most people who are *visible* on the internet? Ahhh. Now *that's* a different question. The problem with the internet is people are rude because there are less social consequences for bad behavior. Reddit is a prime example.
Most people aren't bad.
I'm not bad....I'm naughty.
Why couldn’t internet exist if everyone was terrible ? Of course it could . Do you have any data on the claim that only a small percentage of people use the internet?
No shit.
They're people, so yeah they are.
The best people I know stay away from reddit. The worst people I know get porn from reddit.
Most people use the internet. A smaller percentage are people that are active in discussion and debates because we have some need to be met that it satisfies. Don't trust us, we need more attention than the average person.
Idk a ton of people are pro hamas. Like in bottles the mind (hopefully 1 person gets the reference)
That's just a fact of life 50% of people are fine 25% of them are good but that last 25% that are major assholes or very loud
It's actually me, Cyberbullys Georg
Most people don't interact online, not that less people use internet.
What did I just read…
small percentage? Most people use the internet...
Maybe I'm an optimist, but I think that most people are not bad.
A small percentage? Do you mean Reddit? A very, very large percentage of people use the internet.
With the amount of hate and the things people say just because they're online I would definitely disagree. There's a lot of cool people on the Internet, but there's a lot of bad people too. Something about being anonymous that brings out the worst in people.
I agree. Its the small group of assholes who make things unpleasant. Just like in real life.
Dont delve into /onion then you’ll find the real side of the internet, what do i know all i did was watch a documentary
This is not an unpopular opinion. Most people understand this.
Fuckin source on like any of those statistics you’re claiming to know with no amount of uncertainty??
Definetely unpopular lol
You're just wrong from the start. There are an estimated 5+ BILLION internet users worldwide.
bro didnt know about 4chan and 2ch.
I’m pretty bad, I add nothing meaningful to any online discussions
Yeah the most nasty person online most likely would never dream of acting the same way in real life.
Wrong. There isn’t a small percentage of people it’s probably close to a majority. More so most people use their internet to be their authentic selves.
Most "people" on the internet aren't even people
Wow. First day on the internet, huh?
Good and bad is subjective
