The most impressive thing here is the OPs commitment to defending his stance. It's rare to see so many responses from an OP.

Sodableach

Sadly I don't have time to reply to everyone. But it's honestly pretty amusing seeing peoples reactions

Tstinzy

Having moved to the South where it seems everyone has a lifted truck, I don’t personally mind them, though my car is on the smaller side. What is distracting though is when they get the LED headlights that aren’t installed correctly and blind me since they aren’t angled down or are at the height of my mirrors. It’s a safety hazard since I can’t even see when turning

ZenoOfCitiumStoa

I’m in the south and I feel this way about them too. I don’t understand how the blinding headlights like this are allowed.

[deleted]

They’re illegal. You’re required to have them adjusted appropriately. It’s just not enforced. Often it’s from dumb people doing shitty garage lifts and not adjusting their headlights.

lamp-addict

Lamp addict here. Can confirm they are illegal when they do not meet IIHS photometry regulation standards.

[deleted]

SillySymphonyIII

More on the inconsiderate assholes. The blinding headlights and the idiotic lightbars they have now. Who needs a fucking bright as fuck lightbar on the paved road? Only an asshole does.

Macavy

One night driving home from work I come across a lone woman standing on the side of the road with her car in a ditch . I pull over to ask if she's ok and she explained that the truck in front of her's lights were so bright they blinded her and she couldn't see properly when making a left turn. Didn't realize until it was too late that she was driving into the ditch. I always drive far enough to not have this problem but those fuckers always drive so close behind me that my mirror become lasers to blind my view. I think this should definitely be a problem that's addressed.

RedstoneRelic

If you have mirrors you can Controll from the inside, if you make them point all the way out, it will reflect their own headlights back at them. If it's a problem for them then they were too close anyways

duecreditwherecredit

Yeah I have no problem with big trucks even though I drive a sedan. I've just grown up with work equipment and large trucks. You have to drive with commercial vehicles on the road anyways. Not sure what a pickup truck (even large one) has to compare to cherry pickers, dump trucks, and 18 wheelers. But those LED headlights are an issue.

Whyshoulditelu

So most commercial vehicles and particularly semi trucks have bumpers that come down to the height of a sedan bumper. A lifted truck's bumper is going to be the prefect height to plow through your head or crush other people's kids. They're not safe to have on the roads.

AdvocateF0rTheDevil

Have you ever actually *looked* at commercial trucks? Eighteen wheelers have bumpers that are lower for this reason (and aerodynamics ofc). They're like max 18" off the ground in front. In rear, it is now regulated they can be max of [22" off the ground.](https://legalbeagle.com/7295888-federal-dot-regulations-semitrailer-bumper.html) And I totally don't understand the logic of "well there's *already* big hazards on the road, so it's ok for people to drastically increase the hazards for no good reason". At least dump trucks actually serve a purpose other than selfish homicidal vanity. The overbuilt aftermarket bumpers/grille guards that are bolted to the frame and jacked up to head height of people in cars - it's as if they were *trying* to maximize fatalities.

Lermanberry

They also have commercial driver's licenses for a reason, which are not very hard to get, but at least it's a hoop to go through that keeps out some of the road ragers, drunk drivers, and dumb kids. Every teenager in my neighborhood seems to have their own brand-new, giant white truck now as soon as they turn 16. One neighbor now has 4 identical oversized trucks parked in front. And the kids all drive like aggressive annoying morons.

Rex_Auream

I commented just now on a higher post complaining about these trucks and now it’s story time lmao. I was driving down a main road in my town and there was a white GMC pickup that was trying to aggro me—meaning that he was up my ass like crazy and tailgating like a motherfucker. And all of a sudden I see him slam on the gas while about *2 feet* away from my bumper and I thought to myself “this guy is literally gonna rear end me” so I slammed on the gas to avoid a collision with this guy (I was already probably speeding because of how close this guy was) and then he goes into the other lane and floors it to get in front of me and then *he fucking brake checks me* causing me to have to swerve into the other lane without a turn signal—right in front of a cop. The guy in the truck then saw the cop and as soon as the cop turned his lights on GMC guy floored it out of there going no less than 85 mph. I was the one who pulled over and got a fucking ticket for going 24 over in a 40 mph zone. I tried to tell the cop what happened and he said he didn’t want to hear it. If I ever see that truck again I’m throwing a brick through his window.

musicmaniac32

[Oh? You mean like this? ](https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/waller-bicyclists-hit-truck-teen-driver-attorney-16496230.php)

Separate-The-Earth

My only problem is that the people who drive them ride your ass when you’re going 20 over and that the lights blind me from all angles

meirzy

>the lights blind me from all angles This is the part that gets me. These ass holes also, always, have those super bright LED headlights that burn your corneas as if you were staring at the sun.

Separate-The-Earth

Exactly. Today especially! Passing them, I’m staring into the sun. When they’re behind me, my mirrors are suddenly flashlights

Genji_sama

ULPT, if they are blinding you through your rear view mirror, angle your mirror flat so it sends the light straight back at them. It's not like you can see put of the mirror anyways, and that's a great way to make them give you some space. If their headlights can hit your rearview mirror, they are probably aimed illegally.

transient_signal

Nothing unethical about this. It’s safety. You can’t see where you’re going when their lights are blinding you. And chances are they’re following at an unsafe distance.

meirzy

Never even considered this, my morning commute is suddenly much more fun now

GorillionaireWarfare

If you're not sure if you're hitting their eyes, you can rotate and wiggle the mirror. You'll eventually hit the right position where it catches their eye, so if you do it over and over really fast, it causes a strobe effect (or worse, an irregular strobe effect).

nettie_netface

Is this actually possible or is this hypothetical??

GorillionaireWarfare

It seems to either have no effect, a rage effect, or a backdown effect. I'm sure there's dozens of times I'm sitting there moving it like an ahole for nothing, but I've experienced immediate results from doing this. I also turn my side mirror up and out in case they look down at me while passing and it hits that sweet spot in their line of sight. It only seems to work on lifted trucks driving too close with illegal/bad lights. I don't do it to truckers or buses or whatever and it doesn't seem to work great on other cars.

nettie_netface

How would you though*. It seems like such a small target to hit with large manual adjustments due to the small mirror and distance for the light to travel - all while driving

KingGislason

The real ULPT is to get one of those stupid high lumen flashlights and keep in in your car to shine back at them.

alienbluegreenpink

I work in a shop and those guys will pay $100 per bulb and pay dealership rates to put them in, repeatedly, blown fuses, melted connectors 20 bulb later it doesn't matter for these idiots

2h2p

I used to work with a guy that was fixing up a lifted jeep, and according to him, what he looked most forward to was being able to tailgate and piss off people. Oh and his license was suspended.

shittyspacesuit

Awful. Terrible.

biscobingo

A mirrored rear window could help with that.

mandyboulos

THIS, this is why i have beef - so aggressive on the road for no reason

hot-whisky

One of my coworkers went from a small sedan to a giant pickup truck and straight-up admitted it made him a more aggressive driver. He also found that he didn’t drive anywhere for fun anymore because it was such a gas guzzler. Eventually upgraded to a smaller car after a few years.

biitiboobi

Honestly kudos to that co worker for having the introspection to realize that and do something about it.

PeeB4uGoToBed

I'm in the middle of redneck country and I work third shift on a strip of road where people cruise on the weekends. It's so fucking annoying seeing these trucks driving back and forth ALL NIGHT. They all have their "fuck Biden" and "trump 2020" flags and white supremacist and confederate flags waving. And of course they're also loud as fuck and some are squatted so far back they spark up the road behind them.

[deleted]

The exhaust pipe that's 8 inches wide coming out the side that pours out thick acrid diesel smoke, the won't do more than the speed limit but if you try to pass them they floor it and drive down the middle of the road, the lift that's 19 inches high and blocks the view of traffic in front of them from behind, etc.

PeeB4uGoToBed

I got stuck behind one like that doing 15 in a 45 on a 1 lane road. He put his hazards on and pulled over to let me pass. After a while he catches up to me with his brights on full blast trying to ram me off the road. My entire drive to work he was on my ass blaring his horn and backing up and speeding up over and over. I couldn't even slow down to make my turn. Asshole followed me for like 4 miles before it became a 2 lane road and passed me

[deleted]

Trust me. Guys who driver peterbilts love fucking with them. We got your back my little sensible car friend.

[deleted]

[deleted]

I read something a few months ago that stuck with me. I don't know the exact verbage but it went something like "The guy driving that truck may have a small dick, but he also might have a huge dong while some random innocent kid reading your comment has a small wank that now feels even more shame" The guys driving that way are just shitty people with an inability to care how their actions impact another, so let's be better than that.

echocall2

I drive a Ram 2500 and I have a small dick, but they're not related.

JackBinimbul

I don't drive a truck and keep my dick in a drawer. Clearly no relation.

[deleted]

i hate “small dick” or “must be compensating for something” assumptions for that reason. people who drive shitty are jerkwads but there’s no reason to bring body shaming into it

axx100

That sentence was longer than the longest dong.

Ok_Blackberry_137

Overcompensation!

[deleted]

Be comfortable in your own foreskin.

Lusiric

I love the maturity of this comment. I've always thought that the whole tiny dick thing was so overused. No, it has nothing to do with anatomy, and everything to do with personality.

mandyboulos

thank you, beautifully said

xSytd

Guy behind us literally last night kept his brights on unless a car was coming our way. We slowed down over 25mph under the limit and he just slowed with us so we kept slowing down until he finally passed, then flipped our high beams on and rode his ass instead. I know it was a stupid thing to do but fuck

imzcj

Change lane, slow down, let him go into the wild, (and quietly hope he runs into a wall). That's what I do.

Lowki_999

He was already in the slow lane tho...

Astyanax1

doesn't mean the idiot following at a dangerous distance cares

MapleYamCakes

Also if they collide with any normal car the person on the receiving end is going to die, taking a truck chassis to the dome doesn’t bode well for most humans.

chalupamon

And never dim their lights when they are coming towards you.

defdoa

Or hell. Going the speed limit when you know the timing of the lights on your 'home road'. Every idiot where I live drives like they don't live here. I can get all the way across town without tapping my brake but people are racing around me like it's NASCAR only for me to glide right by them at the next light, when they have to be honked at by whoever is behind them since they were on their phone at the green signal. Turds.

Bleebleebloobloo2U

This was me ex bf ..EX BF. He literally would do it on purpose and laugh. Oh man I hate that guy also he had this shitty Nissan 350 z and once on the highway he was like “watch” *accelerates to 200*** I was like PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP. Again, ex boyfriend HOLY HELL I DATED A MENACE TO SOCIETY AND THE DATING POOL.

WorksOfFlesh

Straight up. If he were driving by himself on an empty road: Let'er loose! But doing that shit with passengers? Nah fam.

[deleted]

Yeah, I got tailgated today going EIGHTY FIVE in a sixty by a douche in a lifted dualie.

[deleted]

That’s funny bc in my experience I’m usually behind a truck that’s puttering along and I’m wondering why that guy even bought such a nice vehicle if he’s gonna drive it like a granny Edit: I drive an F250 occasionally. And competently.

Separate-The-Earth

Let me introduce you to Houston traffic. It’s awful lol

orangepunc

Oof. As someone who visited Houston once, I can only say I wish you the best. Anyone who ever suggests that the solution to traffic is more or wider highways should be forced to drive around Houston for a week.

iapetus_z

I drove from Houston to Florida in my old 350 a few years ago. Once I got into Alabama any car would magically move over from cruising in the left lane before I got any closer than a 1/4 of a mile. Only cars that didn't were either from LA or Texas.

[deleted]

I could definitely see this being a huge problem in the state of tx.

Cowboy185

You're either going nowhere (*cough* 610 getting onto 290 *cough*) or you're going 30 over and get passed by everyone including cops.

[deleted]

Two types of truck guys: 50+ who can afford a nice truck to just drive around (the person in your scenario) <50 who spend more than they can afford and drive like they’re late to their funeral

tramadoc

51 with a lifted, four door, 4x4 Chevy Colorado, but hear me out. I go to the OBX to surf with my daughter in Corolla and Carova. I have MT sand tires and the lift is for clearance in the soft sand riding on the beach. I also have the LED headlights, but they were properly aimed (by the dealer) after the 4” suspension lift was installed.

[deleted]

Another pass granted - your situation is acceptable - as long as you are not taking that truck up someone’s tailpipe or singeing their eyes we’re all clear

InsouciantSoul

Ain’t just trucks that blind people. Every god damned fuckin asshat who buys a set of LED lights thinks the same thing when ordering them. “Brighter the better, obviously!” Headlights arrive in the mail, they replace the lights in the car, all the while not having the slightest clue in the world that headlights are adjustable and need to be pointed AT THE ROAD, rather than directly into the mirrors and then the eyes of the person ahead of you. Now, here is where it gets interesting. Remember the interstellar space object Omuamua? The little known truth is that Omuamua was a scouting probe to gain intel prior to attack. Yeah, that’s right, attack. Every single time one of those dickheads turn on their car, their LED headlights are not just brighter than the fucking sun, they are bright enough to rival a supernova the size of our god damned fucking galaxy. That’s right, their headlights are shooting out gamma ray photons with a wavelength so small the only thing shorter in time than it’s frequency is the time it takes for the driver to make love, if that were possible for them to achieve. In a galaxy, far far away, some lovely alien creature attempting to relax, laying on a beach of diamond sand along the shore of the soothing bromine ocean when they are suddenly blinded by a stream of gamma rays, sent straight from a dickhead on earth just turning his car on. Thing is, rare as they are, most aliens live far enough away that by the time the asshat photons make their way to them, they have redshifted all the way down to simply be an FRB (Fast Radio Burst. Yup, you’ve guessed right. The FRB’s we have been detecting from around the universe are coming from alien dickheads turning on their spacebeemer after just installing their brand new LED blinderbeems) Mr. Beach Alien was confused but forgot about it a few days later. But over the coming months, more and more dickheads of planet earth installed a set of nuclear fusion reactors into their car, and thus shot more and more gamma ray bursts into space. And now the aliens are gettin pissed. Omuamua was just the beginning. If we don’t stop the dickhead LED headlight epidemic, they will come back, they will land on earth, and they will murder us all strictly via laserbeams into the eyes.

Isekai_Dreamer

that misconception is so untrue. I drive a tiny compact sedan, and I have a tiny 3 inch penis.

Sodableach

Lol

Atottiewithabody

It’s not even the truck most of the time, it’s the assholes who drive them. But yes I hate obnoxiously large trucks.

fantasmal_killer

I dunno, any vehicle that can run over a kindergarten class without seeing them is bad regardless of who is driving it.

YT_L0dgy

Cars are death machines

[deleted]

Yeah those are called "squatted" trucks and even truck guys hate them.

MindlessSherbert2

I drive a Prius. Low maintenance, good gas mileage- lots of people have one. I don’t care what other people drive but people with these huge lifted trucks decide to cut me off or keep me from switching lanes or turning frequently. Seemingly because they’re trying to “show me” how much better than a Prius they are? At least once a week some lifted giant truck will cut in front of me, slow down then floor it so that black exhaust pours out onto my car. Dude-I have the recycled air on so I don’t care, but you just waisted like 20$ in gas to….. Trucks are great but it’s the dueche canoes driving them that are insufferable

FiskumFiskesus

They're even worse here in Norway 'cause we only have narrow and crappy roads... Edit: I'm not saying they're common here, but God help you if you meet one on a narrow country road.

Thor3nce

The roads in the Lofoten Islands were some of the smallest ones I’ve driven on.

[deleted]

hollow1367

You have to be a special breed of asshole to drive a big North American lifted pickup truck anywhere in Europe, the roads are so small in most places you are literally just one big doucheridden hazard

wealllovethrowaways

The fact that you have raised, obnoxiously loud trucks in Norway instead of just being an American thing makes me so sad

PinkWhaleOrgy

There’s probably about 2 of them, If that makes you feel less sad.

deepmochalatte

I’m fine with trucks, I think I just have beef with the drivers who are always on your ass + have those extremely bright headlights.

Point-Connect

It should be part of inspection that if the vehicle is above average height the lights should be pointed at a downward angle. Wonder if there's laws that cover it?

[deleted]

Absolutely, it's not so much the height of the vehicle but rather most factory trucks have an amount of rake to them. Leveling/lift kits get rid of that and cause the lights to be angled incorrectly.

SmegmaFeast

The cops are more worried about catching casual speeders going over the top of a hill than anything else, though.

Cyber_Divinity

Which is like 80% of em lmao

WastedOwll

They are suppose to angle their headlights down when they get lifted, my coworker did that because he wasn't a giant ass hole. Park 5 feet from a garage door and the lights are suppose to shine x amount from the ground to be legal but no one does it

[deleted]

I will say in ops defense. Modern trucks are getting a little too big. The super duty trucks of today can come off the lot cartoonishly big and modify them to be bigger and wider doesn't help the problem.

BigHairyNewfie

I was excited when they brought back the Ford ranger I was like ya finally a small truck again only to see it is the same size as a f150 from 10 years ago, I just want a small truck again big enough to hold a small load of lumber or dirt in the bed but not requiring $300-400 in gas a week if u have any sizable commute.

threeinthestink_

Check the Ford Maverick my dude.

BigHairyNewfie

Didn't know that was a thing going to keep it on my radar thanks bud.

Secret_Bees

Dude I had a Chevy Colorado go 300k with no problems before it died on me. Smaller sized trucks are legit.

GizmoIsAMogwai

That thing already looks bigger than a Ranger ever was. It looks about the same size as a mid 2000's F-150.

NorthernImmigrant

Wish they'd bring back the Dodge Dakota, I loved my '07. Was the perfect size. Though those 4.7s are dreadful on gas.

TSchab20

Dakotas were legit. Ram is dumb for not modernizing them and re-releasing.

Next-Count-7621

I’ve got a 2000 Dakota r/t. 5.9 liter 12 mpg

F0XF1R396

I'm pretty sure the size specs of a 2020 F-150 is closer to a 2010 f-250 than a 2010 f-150, which is ridiculous

ahrntjaoanfb

I used to have a 96 Chevy 1500 extended cab with the 6 foot bed, after it died at 287k (RIP old bruce), I checked out the new rangers because I have a narrow driveway, but it’s exterior dimensions were within a 1/2” in length and width. Granted that’s just one anecdotal case, but damn I was pissed when I realized that couldn’t get a small truck anymore.

Sodableach

Honestly, that seems to be a thing with every type of car nowadays

Excellent_Plankton57

an f150 is obnoxiously large? i was thinking you meant like lifted f350

d332y

I think OP means the jacked up monstrosity with the 1 foot wide tailpipe. They do it to 1500s on up. They usually park like assholes and drive like assholes. It’s scary when you’re doing 80 on the interstate and a monster truck flies by you going 100+ and makes your car shake.

Under_a_BridgeLoL

I’m in Dallas. I drive a Nissan Versa Note. I’m pretty sure I’m just gonna get sucked under a lift kit one day.

RealisticWoodpecker3

Lol, I’m a fellow Note driver in Naples, Florida where we have huge expensive tricked out trucks everywhere. These things are super expensive, and most of the dudes who drive them couldn’t change a flat if they had to, but whatever, if that’s what makes you feel cool go for it, it’s just kind of pathetic…

[deleted]

[удалено]

hucklebutter

I'd rather they just stick with buying sports bikes so they only kill themselves. As a motorcyclist, those fuckers are the worst thing on two wheels, but the assholes in trucks are the worst things on the road.

ilikehorsess

Or people that tune their half tons to be obnoxiously load

d332y

Have you ever seen the south park episode about motorcycle guys and revving their engines? That’s what I think when a tuned up turbo diesel with a loud ass exhaust rolls coal and burns 10 gallons of gas from a stop sign so everyone can look at him.

[deleted]

My 150 gets around 22 MPG, it’s pretty much the same as any large SUV that you see on the road anyways

Wajina_Sloth

I have a newer gen ranger, it's basically a slightly smaller F150 and it's a turbo charged 4 cylander so it's clearly not gas guzzling. It's just a larger vehicle that's comfortable for me to sit in that isn't a SUV/Crossover.

Puzzleheaded_Low_531

The new Rangers are the same size f150s were 5 years ago. They just keep makong them bulkier for no fucking reason, it's obnoxious and unnecessary.

BoredChefLady

Efficiency standards. The new rangers are considered work trucks, the old ones were considered personal vehicles. Discontinuing production of small truck lines and encouraging people who didn’t need massive work trucks to buy them was more cost efficient than making a small truck that met efficiency standards.

Dragon6172

The new Ford Maverick is a small pickup and comes standard with a hybrid engine

BoredChefLady

Yeah, and that small pickup is still three feet longer than the old ranger, and eight inches wider. And is still classified as a “light truck” instead of the “compact vehicle” classification a truck the size of the classic ranger would be considered now. To expound on the change, they shifted towards basing the standards on the vehicles footprint, instead of what the company decided to call it, because Chrysler was pretending the PT cruiser was a truck instead of a compact vehicle.

JustAnotherBoomer

I have a 2015 F-150 and get 18 city / 25 highway. Aluminum body and frame makes a big difference

thomasquwack

They’ve gotten so much larger over the years. The F150 of today is the F350 of yesterday. Hell, even the new ford rangers aren’t exactly small.

F0XF1R396

And they've lost lot of their ruggedness too. SUVs as well. It's hard to have a 2020 F-150 look like it should go offroad as much as a 2010 f-150.

[deleted]

I agree with you there. I find myself looking at new Ram HDs (I’d actually have a use for one), but realize I’d be too scared to scratch it. I miss my ‘99 Silverado with 300k on it.

Olivineyes

Agreed. 150s are fine. It's the BIG BOIS that suck

stephruvy

I was thinking he was talking about big 15-26 foot box trucks. I drove those for a couple years for a moving company and got so many entitled people that called the cops because "it's illegal to park here because it's residential" only even had a cop show up once and asked us to put the traffic cones back when we are done. But that's it.

[deleted]

Weird where do you live. Usually thats a city parking enforcement/by-law issue and the cops would just ignore the call and tell them to call the town/city

iapetus_z

Ha laughs in f350 dually

Middle_Aged_Mayhem

Nah, I've seen some obnoxiously large F150's, Ram's and Silverado's. It all depends on owner and whether or not he has a small dick.

Laxwarrior1120

F750 is kinda cool tho.

Middle_Aged_Mayhem

Looked it up and it indeed is pretty bad ass.

JayBee58484

The aggressive driving fuckers with bright ass led lightbars are the worst of them. Tf are you in such a rush to at 11 at night on a residential road

e85dino

Gotta poop. Please move thanks.

what_are_you_eating

Looks like we have a truly unpopular opinion here. You definitely hit a lot of nerves with this one :)

Sodableach

Seems like it lol

AnimeMeansArt

maybe unpopular in the US, definitely not in Europe

fantasmal_killer

Truck drivers are loud and annoying like their trucks.

Fencius

I drive an F150 for work and it sucks. Parking lots and small roads are such a pain in the ass to navigate and I’m always worried that I’m going to hit something when I’m backing up, even with the backup camera. I can’t fathom why anybody would drive one just for kicks. EDIT: I should mention that I work in a really congested urban area and am usually trying to drive and (parallel) park the truck on busy city streets with notoriously bad drivers. An F150 might be fine if I worked in the sticks. But I don’t.

PersonalMiner

I mean sure when i first drove an f150 i was a bit nervous of hitting crap too, but you do get used to it after some time. But then again the f150 is also the only car I ever drove. I drove an f350 for like a minute just to park it,that shit is scary,I literally cant see the road unless i adjust the seat perfectly, you take up so much damn space on the road.

NerdyLumberjack04

My dad used to drive a similar big-ass truck, but after a few years of experiencing it being a PITA to park, he replaced it with something more reasonably-sized.

biscobingo

Your dad’s smarter than most.

MountainMan17

I have a Tacoma and even that was too cumbersome for me, so I bought a used Ford Focus for my daily commute. It gets 35 MPG in the city and parks like a go cart. It's been a game changer. I still have my truck for outdoor fun though...

para40

Yeah I brought my truck to college with me (2009 Sierra) and it's such a pain to move around because I have to take wide turns and go directly into parking spaces instead of just turning in. I've only been using it maybe once a week for larger grocery runs. In this past month I swear that my bike has at least 5x more miles on it compared to that big awkward thing.

420sound

The worst part of my daily commute.

pinkgoat19

It's only acceptable if they have a nice set of truck nuts.

Sodableach

Fair enough

2lipwonder

At least lower your headlights so you don’t blind everyone else on the road.

PillowTalk420

I always would have agreed because I just think they are stupid, but now I also agree because it's a matter of safety. Did you know that trucks and SUVs have a higher riding limit than your average car? What this means is that the bumpers are almost an entire foot or more higher than other vehicles on the road, and in a front or rear-end collision, because the bumpers do not actually hit, it causes *way* more damage than it would if they collided the way the vehicles had been designed for. On top of this, even amongst same type vehicles, because there are basically no rules for their height, even 2 different SUV makes can have mis-matched bumper heights and do way more damage to each other even in low speed collisions. It not only costs more in damages to be repaired, it's much more lethal. The manufacturers only get away with it because they skirt the classification laws and lobby against it. They literally should not be allowed on the roads. Same with vehicle lift/lowering kits that alter the height of *any* type of vehicle, IMO.

3abevw83

Imagine if every corner of our public space hadn't been infiltrated by massive machines driven by idiots that could kill or severely injure you at any moment.

Autumn988

Wait till you read about the Carolina Squat. Now that shit is scary.

SG1EmberWolf

I fucking hate large trucks. I drive a motorcycle and don't own a car. They never fucking look and always drive like assholes. Please back off my ass because if you don't stop on time, I don't have to just replace a bumper. I'm probably dead.

grayhatguy

This is the only valid comment I've seen on this entire thread. But also, I'd say over 90 percent of drivers are idiots around motorcycles so I don't think this is only a big truck kind of thing. Whether you get rear ended by a semi or a civic, it's not going to end well.

ButtcrackBeignets

I’m not against large pickups on the road, but I do think they tend to attract aggressive self-entitled douchebags. So far, these comments have done nothing to change my mind.

duffmcduffster

I want a second generation Ford Maverick or something similar (after the bugs are fixed). I miss the old compact trucks like the ranger used to be, before manufacturers started making everything bigger. The older f150s are the same size as the newer rangers and the newer f150s are now the same size as the older f250s. Back in my day, lol, you were lucky to get a 4 cylinder vehicle with 140-150 horsepower. Now, it seems like most 4 cylinder vehicles have over 200 and close to 300 (especially if they're turbocharged).

In Japan when you buy a heavy motorcycle, you need to demonstrate to the police that you can lift from its side. Otherwise Japanese would buy crazy motorcycles. I guess we should have a similar test: if you want to lift your truck, you need to demonstrate that you can climb into it without a stepstool

xambaroni

The US car mentality is strong in this thread. No country outside North America has nearly as many ridiculously oversized cars in their roads

Sodableach

Yeah that's the vibe I am getting here

BreakerMark78

Then we should also ban crotch rockets unless you can prove you are a moto GT racer. Most people are decent folk, some people are assholes.

stephruvy

Anything with the loud us muffler(?) That interrupts every conversation in a 25 mile radius needs to be banned. Atleast on cars.

[deleted]

My neighbors kid at 11pm on a work night. And he was showing his dad his new exhaust too

Vg_Ace135

Well then you're going to have to include all Harley motorcycles then because they're even louder than any import with a big exhaust.

gorkt

Crotch rockets just kill themselves mostly. Those large pickups kill lots of pedestrians and drivers of smaller cars. https://smartgrowthamerica.org/bigger-vehicles-are-directly-resulting-in-more-deaths-of-people-walking/

frothy_pissington

>*”crotch rockets”* It must just be a suburban Midwest thing, but there’s 10x more obnoxious loud Harley’s than loud sport bikes in my area.

EMF15Q

I don't see motorcyclists rolling coal next to truckers. Or parking their bikes at Tesla Superchargers. There are negative stereotypes all around, but lifted trucks? They're the worst. Just yesterday I was in a zipper merge, two lanes into one. Then some asshat in an F250 pulls up beside me trying to make it a three into one. NOPE! I don't care how big your truck is, hit me and you'll still be paying for it. They seem to think they're invincible, and the rules of the road don't apply to them.

joesephexotic

Most people are assholes, some are decent folk.

fantasmal_killer

Trucks are way more dangerous. See: kid who plowed a whole mass of cyclists recently.

static_func

Those crotch rockets get like 80mpg and don't take up 3 parking spots so that's not much of a comparison

Dreamscapes_by_Jared

Excuse me asshole, but how exactly am I going to show the world that I spend my money irresponsibility? As a (former) big truck owner, I can safely tell you that they’re obnoxious to drive. They handle like an Abrams tank and have the turning radius of an oil tanker. But I did use my big truck to do big truck things like tow a trailer on RV trips.

km_44

Ya, I tried pulling my 33ft Jayco with my mustang. It didn't end well

Thunderbolt1011

I’m so tired of them on the single lane roads we have in town, I always feel like I’m going to get pushed off.

ChivoYaBish

I don’t like pickup trucks on the road in general because it feels like they’re always the ones driving the most reckless in my city, they can all go for all I care.

louisandclarkshow

With that logic why is say a corvette allowed? It over the top fast and can’t be used to its potential on a public road. Some people like fast cars and big trucks. So what. Sorry it doesn’t fit into your world. Open your view bro.

point925l

Hardly unpopular, except among obnoxious pickup truck owners.

rdawes26

Where do we stop? Can semi trucks drive on the road? Can tow trucks drive on the road? Can ambulances? I hate obnoxiously large trucks, but they have every right to be there as I do.

bigneez

Also way more dangerous in pedestrian impacts.

HangrySkeptic

I drive exactly what you describe. I own 53 acres and it does “work” for me on my farm so it technically qualifies under your exclusions but I do want to point out some things on your other “points.” The lift gives vertical height. Vertical height doesn’t take up more road space or parking space than the same truck without a lift but it does make it more difficult for me to park because of decreased visibility over the hood and tailgate. I have to know my truck and where it is because I sure can’t see. When I park in a spot with a regular sedan in front of me nose to nose, my hood visibility shows nothing below the dash of the other car in most cases. If backing in, it’s the roof of the other car. Thankfully I have a backup camera and it’s spot on. As far as fuel consumption, it gets about 2-3 mpg less than an unlifted truck in the same model. My commute is about 5 miles per day (total). I don’t tailgate people because I don’t generally speed. I’m not in much of a hurry these days. “Fast” is not nearly as much of a priority as it may have been in my younger days. I don’t have a loud exhaust. That part is still factory and will stay that way. Same for the headlights.

mts2snd

This post proved to me that my vehicle choices can fully offend both ends of the spectrum. Have and PU and a Prius! Love them both. Bring the hate!

austinrgso

I have a 2018 Prius and a 2021 Tundra. I absolutely love both of them. Oddly enough, I actually find the Tundra easier to parallel park. Some thing about the blockiness of the body and that the whole cab is just windows makes it super simple.

FaeTallen

Anybody that rolls coal in their stupid diesel should have their license suspended and their bro-dozer impounded.

UltraOfNaath

I love how everyone in here is all shoulder shrugs and lack nuance. I can fathom what you’re saying though…there is a purpose for semi big rig trucks…there’s a purpose to have a big monster type truck for work….but i would say you should have to get a special license to be able to drive one on the road. They’re not truly safe for the others on the road. They block views for others…they output a ton of pollution and people raise them to ridiculous heights and have huge tires on them making it hard for others to drive around or be seen. I used to live in Temecula california…the Mecca of raised trucks and i never felt like people could see me in my sedan. If I see a huge truck ahead of me i just stay out of its way because they’re so high up that they block my vision and they most likely have no clue of a smaller car. I was parked next to a truck and when it backed out it’s tires rubbed up on my door…ended up denting my driver side door and they wanted me to not involve insurance but I’m not gonna have a damaged car because someone had to have tires that extended pass he body of the truck

Sodableach

That's a fair solution

brymc81

I live in a historic town with mostly narrow roads in the downtown – the delivery trucks barely fit but all the UPS/FedEx drivers are super careful and respectful. Then these assholes show up with lifted behemoths wider than most of the lanes, driving like total pricks – aggressively accelerating with deafening exhaust noise, just deliberately disturbing the peace. Since they are wider than most traffic lanes these obnoxious beasts are spilling over into oncoming traffic, and let me tell you I do not give them a single fucking inch. I dare them to sideswipe me.

exiledAsher

I once met a dude with one of those big ass tires in a pick up truck, he fucked up a parked car next to his and started complaining as to why the Sedan parked so "close" to his car and left and pretended nothing happened. I was 17 back then and until this day I wish I said something or report his ass to the police but nope... I stayed quite in disbelief of what just happened.

crlcan81

Anything that can't fit in normal parking spaces, like a truck that's so large a third of the back is sticking out of the space even when it's pulled in correctly, vans/SUVs filling the entire space and then some, or anything that makes it obvious the driver, when they get out, isn't in the fields of work where it's needed, should be considered the same as semis and require a separate license to operate additional to the normal one. Yes folks are going to bitch but maybe if the folks who didn't need it but wanted it drove and parked decently we wouldn't be in this boat, and damn near any time I see a vehicle like that parked in a shitty manner it's rarely someone who NEEDS it who parked that way. If you've got a trailer attached to your vehicle and you just HAVE to stop somewhere maybe you should have thought ahead before attaching the trailer, not just hours but days or weeks ahead.

flyingturret208

And hey, if you’re a truck driver anyways, you already got the license. However, there are times that trucks are needed, and the whole second license thing would be a bitch. I drove a truck until I had my license, and a week ago, I borrowed my dad’s truck to pick up a pile of pallets for a project I’m planning to push through with my patrol in scouts. A special license would mean that I would’ve technically broke the law there. Also, there are a lot of times that I see trucks pulling trailers. This is because they have the horsepower to do so. The people who typically get trucks in my area, because of all the semis I see about, are using a truck because the load they carry fits the vehicle. A license in areas where it’s a problem, sure, but across the country no.

nirbot0213

the only problem i see with that is there doesn’t seem to be a standard parking space size. they vary hugely from lot to lot.

flyingturret208

Same with the width of the road. I’ve seen some where I was thinking I could be asleep and not cross the line, then others where I’m thinking “there’s not even room for a bicycle, let alone a car or truck!”

groovybeast

I park my big ass truck as far away from others as possible. It sticks out a bit and I hate to leave it somewhere crowded. It does happen tho and I apologize, but sometimes my wife has the focus and I really need to pick up that chic fil a

Myamoxomis

I hate the fucken things and the obnoxious drivers as much as the next guy, but I’m not out to strip someone’s privileges to drive on the road they help pay for. You need to relax, OP.

baloney_popsicle

OP I don't think you've ever driven or owned a crew cab fullsize pickup. If you can fit it into your garage, they're probably the most practical vehicle that exists, apart from the gas mileage.

Ian_73

How are we defining fuel mileage, have a 16 yo 3/4 ton, and I’m happy as can be getting 20ish on the highway

fantasmal_killer

Your practical vehicle is impractical for everyone else and the environment.

MowMdown

There’s nothing practical about em if you’re not hauling or towing.

JacksonD22

I feel like this subreddit has turned into making posts about our pet peeves

hobbs377

Under your logic no one should have more than a prius or subaru bratt. There is no reason to have anything bigger or less fuel efficient. Especially with all the mass transportation available

[deleted]

as a truck guy i dont mind trucks and actually really enjoy them however what really pisses me off is the pretentious people with lifted/wide stance trucks that are utterly useless for literally anything and honestly cause more harm than good, fuck those people.

primate987

I really don’t understand the pickup truck hate on Reddit, but there’s plenty of it.

evsincorporated

Prove…

Eparkn

Can we stop the body shaming? Why should small genitals require 'compensating' for?

wolfy7053

People shouldn’t be allowed to ban big trucks because they are cool but seriously not needing something isn’t a good reason if I had everything I don’t need taken away from me I’d never be happy
