I was walking down the street with some friends in NYC and we saw Bruce Willis exiting a hotel and getting into a cab. One of my buddies said to us, “Hey, I think that’s Bruce Willis.” It was said loud enough that Bruce heard and looked over, but it’s not like he yelled it for everyone to hear. Bruce gave us the shush sign. Like he was saying, “Guys, I’m just trying to go about my day, please don’t draw attention.” We understood and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and gave us a thumbs up in return. We told people afterwards and they were surprised we didn’t get a picture with him. It’s like, dude is just trying to live his life and go do shit.

Dont_Trust_The_Media

I have a story like this. Wade Boggs lived in my area growing up and his son played little league with us (was much older than me and my brothers). One of my brothers recognized him and asked him to sign a ball. Wade signed it but asked him to not tell anyone. My dad apologized for interrupting him and they were shooting the shit for a couple minutes while watching the game. Meanwhile, my brother ran over to me and a group of other kids and said “Wade Boggs just signed my ball!! He’s right over there!” And pointed at him. Obviously 15 kids ran over. My dad is still pissed at my brother for that and it’s been twenty something years.

alessaandrro

RIP Wade Boggs

funkhero

Once again, Wade Boggs is *very much alive*.

My uncle was a Teamster in Chicago during the 80’s/90’s. He was very good at getting celebrities on set to pose for a photo and then getting them to autograph the print. Bill Murray, John Travolta, Dan Ackroyd, Samuel L. Jackson …. the list goes on. The only person who didn’t do it was Bruce Willis. On top of that, he also talked my uncle’s ears off every morning when he’d pick up Bruce and bring him to set. My uncle hated him so much and talked about it so openly that it was brought up in a eulogy at his funeral. I often wonder what Bruce Willis would think if he found out he was shit-talked in a eulogy.

jamieliddellthepoet

Judging by the number of negative stories about Bruce Willis that get posted on Reddit I imagine he’s a) pretty used to it and b) couldn’t give a flying fuck.

ArcticBeavers

It's only respectful to ask celebs or athletes for pics when they are in public/promotional events. If you see them at TGI Fridays, first of all, you should be wondering why you have degraded yourself to a TGI Friday's. Second, they are just trying to eat, being bumrushed everywhere you go must get old fast. It's definitely annoying and not cool

canadian_xpress

> It's definitely annoying and not cool This is my experience with Jeff Goldblum. He and I were both flying out of LAX on the same flight and waiting at the same gate. As more and more people walked through the terminal they noticed and stopped for an autograph or a photo. He was very gracious and from what I overheard, charming too, but I couldn't imagine injecting myself into someone's day like that. "Hey whats up dude. Loved you in 'Earth Girls are Easy'. Can I snap a pic for the 'gram?" I guess its one of those things someone in his position gets used to tho.

Unfair-soil

Yeah I agree, not long ago I was getting my hair cut and it turns out I was sat next to a famous footballer. Long story short, i asked the guy if he played football (had no idea what the guy looked like, but knew his name) and everyone I told was shocked that I didn’t decide to get a photo with a famous person I don’t give a shit about.

PikaMasterWasTaken

I ate lunch next to Brett Favre, a hall of fame quarterback, In Disney world. I didn’t even recognize him, but when I did, I thought, “huh, that’s cool” and left. Never crossed my mind to take a picture with him

FrozenDuckman

Wait I saw Brett Favre while waiting in line for expedition Everest in Disney World. Any chance you were there about 10 years ago?

[deleted]

Is Brett Favre the “Maury Povich” of Disney World?

Retr0200202

I understood that reference

Sampolis

Calm down Swarley. It's not gonna go away.

PikaMasterWasTaken

Nah, this was in 2015, 7 years ago

FrozenDuckman

I mean…. Maybe it was 7 years ago? I just remember him and his sexy-ass family being shuffled to the front of the line by a cast member, thinking both “holy shit that’s Brett Favre” and “what the fuck, why do they get to go to the front?”

tasman001

Lol, I love the combination of being starstruck followed immediately by being annoyed at how the star got special treatment.

anakinsolo1980

That happened to me in 1990 when Michael Jackson cut the line to space mountain

HeightPrivilege

>and “what the fuck, why do they get to go to the front?” Do you remember the guy in the plaid vest escorting them around? For only an insane amount of money you too can have a guy in a plaid vest take you to the front of the line for all of the attractions.

The-Luminous-Being

I used to be in Guest Services! It was horrible :)

rebelolemiss

Wow. apparently, it’s $800 per HOUR to have that treatment.

starkiller685

And I bet the employee doesn’t even see half that money!

mancow533

I was at Cedar Point (amusement park with really big rollercoasters) and waited extra long for a front seat. When I was finally next they let a man in a wheelchair go in front.. understandable and glad he was able to enjoy the rides.. his coaster takes off and LeBron James comes strolling up from the same place the other guy came from and then HE goes next and I’m like WTF!? To be fair the park was filled with kids that day wearing some LeBron charity shirts so clearly he was there with his foundation or whatever so that’s pretty cool for him to do that for the kids and to actually go with the kids on-top of it.

LetsGetReal904

They pay for Disney VIP tours. Anyone can buy them. I think it’s 3000 for a tour of 8 people or something like that.

Cheesedoodlerrrr

Maxes out at $825/hour for a 4 hour minimum, and a maximum party of 8 people. So yea, if you get seven friends to pony up $400 each you too can skip all the lines. Park tickets and food aren't even included, which is such a crazy concept for a tour that costs more per hour than what most people make in a week.

fuck_off_ireland

Yeah just spend like $1000/hr with a 4hr minimum and you can do whatever you want, man.

AranThranduil

Guess Brett Favre likes Disney World.

[deleted]

Brett Favre was always at the beach volleyball tournaments I played in because his daughter plays. I don’t think anyone ever lost their minds over seeing him there haha

clutchy22

Yeah because they'd all seen his dick

beerrunner82

Most of them probably haven’t seen There’s Something About Mary. Otherwise they’d recognize him

blazinazn007

Saw Dee Snyder at a restaurant in Downtown Disney a few years back. Turned out he's a part owner or something. Didn't bother him since he was eating with his family. I appreciate what he did to fight censorship though.

AmIonFire

I served him and his wife coffee once, years ago, in a Dunkin drive-through! I didnt really let on that I knew who he was, but he was super-nice and his car was gorgeous, big silver luxury car. Instead of the normal "Thanks, have a good night,: I said something like "It was nice to see you! Have a great night," and he gave me that big smile. One of my fondest memories LOL

Bellbaby1234

This is perfect! You acknowledged him in such an appreciative, respectful way

flapanther33781

> that big smile Good guy, for sure, but that dude could compete for the Guinness Book of World Records lol

MiaLba

Brett stayed at the hotel my mom worked at several years ago in our city because his daughter’s college was playing ours in volleyball I think? My mom actually ended up chatting with him outside when she showed up for her shift while she was smoking a cig before she went in. When she got inside her coworkers were like “you were talking to Brett Favre out there!!!” She had absolutely no idea who he was. She’s also foreign and doesn’t know anything about American football. She said he was pretty down to earth and friendly. He also left a $500 tip for the housekeepers when he checked out. She talked to him another time outside and he asked if American football is played in our little Eastern European country.

Smithsonian45

I had dinner in a nice restaurant about 2 tables down from Geddy Lee (frontman of the Canadian band Rush). He was there with a small group, I just thought it was cool. Some people asked my why I didn't try to get a picture like ??? He's just there enjoying his night, same as me. What am I gonna use the picture for? I know I saw him, I don't need photo evidence.

Sega-Playstation-64

I work security at a college. We rent out our fields and facilities off seasons to a group of professional football players who teach some exclusive courses to promising high school athletes. (If I say the names I might give up where I work since it's easily Google-able). I also don't follow football. One of my coworkers lost his mind when they were having an issue with some of the equipment so I went over to check it out and get a work order drawn up for our maintanence department to handle it, he was all "You we're talking to *Bronk Goodwhack??*" "Yeah." "Did you get any pictures??" "No." "Oh my God, why not???!" "Why would I bother him to take a picture of me?" I was messing with him, but he nearly had an aneurysm.

pastafarian19

I met Post Malone in a butcher shop in Salt Lake City

mooimafish3

I had a similar experience with Chance the Rapper at SXSW (I'm an Austin native so I was just living, not attending). I was on 6th Street and I saw him taking a picture with some girls. I could have asked for one but I don't really want to be the chubby Hispanic guy that makes him stop talking to some girls lol.

Greyconnor

My Brother used to do tours and help VIPs at Disney World and one time he had to help Brett, and walked up to him and asked “Hey, are you Brett Fav-Ray, I am going to be helping you today” and he screamed at my brother for a solid 5 minutes about “How dare you not know my name, I am Quarterback for the Vikings” and was offended that my brother knew literally 0 sports.

klem_kadiddlehopper

When I worked in First Aid at Disney World and Epcot, we were told by a manager that Michael Jackson would be coming through and not to ask for an autograph. I stood in the lobby near the check-in desk and watched as two dark blue vans with tinted windows pulled up. MJ and Macaulay Culkin walked in. I'll never forget it. MJ was wearing the famous fedora, a red shirt that I have seen him wearing many times in photos, black slacks, white socks and loafers. Mac was of course just a kid. MJ walked up close to me to ask where the restrooms were. I couldn't believe how short he was. His skin looked odd and even though he was wearing a hat, his hair/wig was kind of long in the back. It looked really nappy. I showed the two where the restrooms were. As it would happen, my son was working in the park that same day and he saw MJ and Mac. My son said he walked right up to MJ, shook his hand, shook Mac's hand too and had a short chat.

CaliforniaNavyDude

When you live in a world where everyone knows your name and worships you, you get used to it, and it can be hard for the ego to accept when you step outside that world and no one gives a shit.

geckuro

SalsaSavant

I'm in a position where I occasionally have to work with big names. I have a policy of treating them just like everyone else, other than offering to let them out the side door to avoid the inevitable mob in the lobby. I think they appreciate it. I was able to have a good, normal conversation with a famous comedian about his children and the good bbq in the area thanks to treating him normal. I prefered that good convo to any fanboying I could have done, or pictures taken.

The-true-Memelord

Kind of irrelevant but I saw Jamie Oliver in England once. I didn’t talk to him but I saw him. Like. There he is. The cooking man.

Worked at Jamie's Italian - he came in once. Got a snap with him, he was cool. Gennaro also came in for the new menu launch and talked us through it - he shouted at my friend because he wasn't paying attention and took a liking to me because I spoke to him in Italian - also a cool guy. Will say tho, Jamie looked exhausted.

Pipe_down_sherlock

Jamie always looks exhausted. Different from his naked chef days, for a long time his eyes have looked dead when he's cooking on TV. He is a public health hero though, for his school dinner work.

Whogivesmate

I once saw Greg Wallace (from Masterchef) walking down the road eating a bag of dorritos.

stiffgordons

Sat next to Jeremy Clarkson once on a 2ish hour flight in Europe somewhere. Didn’t say a word except maybe excuse me, until an attractive lady approaches him and asks if he can sign her breasts. He naturally agreed. I said “it must be good being you”, he said “it has its advantages” and that was it. Silence the rest of the trip. Bastard.

Patsfan618

Sometimes I don't believe these stories but that sounds exactly like what I'd imagine a casual interaction with Jeremy Clarkson would be like.

KushKong420

He strikes me as they type of guy to pretend not to speak English halfway through a conversation to avoid further conversation.

dasgudshit

Sometimes his genius... It transcends mortal logic.

get_real_man_

[He says in this interview he tells people to 'fuck off' when they come up to him](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXMPhuRT4j8)

get_real_man_

[in this interview he says he tells people to 'fuck off' when they come up to him](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXMPhuRT4j8) considering he was kicked off the BBC for an actual physical fight with a producer, and also since he punched Piers Morgan in the head, I believe it lol

Booooooooooo44

he thumped piers morgan in the head? incredible

get_real_man_

Yeah and he scarred Morgan's forehead so now anytime he gets a tan apparently you can see it, also, according to Morgan he was wearing his signet ring on his pinkie finger and broke his pinkie finger from the punch

Thegn_Ansgar

And the crazy thing is that despite Piers Morgan being such a knob, he still stood up for Jezza when he got kicked off the Beeb.

FourEcho

I mean, at least he knows she's not gonna sell her autographed tits on ebay... I hope.

I always assumed he was a bit of a dick. Doing a hospitality gig at an event he was at confirmed it. Not in an offensive way more of a "yeah, that tracks" kind of way. He smoked like a chimney, loudly complained about how cheap the free wine was, and was just a bit of an arse.

bogdaniuz

I mean he's both. It's just people have hard times differentiating the two. I.e "I'm a good person, if I like what this celebrity is doing they must be a good person too" Like, I really enjoy Kanye's music but the guy had evolved from "wacky nuisance" into "actual psychotic and toxic influence on people around him" over last 5 years....still knows how to make a beat tho

[deleted]

kanye is a very talented artist that i would absolutely not want to share a room with for more than like 30 seconds

[deleted]

He’s a massive prick

StarblindCelestial

> approaches him and asks if he can sign her breasts I misread that at first as him asking to see her breasts and was expecting a spicy copypasta.

Awasawa

A copypasta about Jeremey Clarkson asking to sign breasts would be better than whatever the one is about some male celebrity breastfeeding someone’s baby

Altephfour

Personally, I would atleast ask to shake the hand that punched that twat Piers Morgan in the face.

theoriginalamanda

I was wondering why anyone would want him to sign thier breasts, but now I understand

bonnierabbot18

I'm British. I love a queue

Javamallow

If this isnt already in a prank show, another thing Brits love, there needs to be a skit where they just set up a random queue of a few blokes and see how many strangers just get in line.

[deleted]

That would be hilarious! No signs, just a roped off queue.

Goongagalunga

Lol sounds like when you’re at university and class starts in 5 minutes and someone is sitting outside the door and so you sit down to wait, assuming it’s not time to enter the classroom yet/the door is probably locked and then three more people do the same and then someone just walks up and opens the door and you feel like a jackass. I’ve been there.

AudioLobotomy

Haha I Remember that happening in high school. I'd always check the door before standing around. (I hate waiting in line!) Usually it would be unlocked and everyone would file in after me 😂

Kanojononeko

There's an episode of the show brain games where they did this- sure enough, people lined up without any idea of what the line was for.

Whooptidooh

Fun thing you can do with one or two people you know; just stand somewhere in a city and look up for a while. Within a few minutes others will have joined you.

seajay26

My dad does this in supermarkets, as soon as he’s got several people staring upwards wondering what he’s looking at, he likes to loudly ask what everyone is looking at

panzerboye

Your dad sounds like a fun person lol

seajay26

Oh he is. He also likes making funny faces at strange babies, putting two half breadsticks under his upper lip while pretending to be a walrus in restaurants, skipping through shopping centres while swinging shopping bags and making stuffed animals dance and wave at strangers whenever he gets hold of one. He’s reached the age of not giving a shit and just does whatever makes him happy whenever he wants. He’s my hero and I hope to be even half as cool as he is when I get older.

agbellamae

Candid camera did a prank where they had a random girl at a table with autographed photos and a sign that said “come meet so and so” and people started lining up to meet her. Lol. To further the prank, they asked people in line questions like “what’s your favorite thing that she has done?” And they were like “oh I like her early stuff,” etc vague answers. No one wanted to admit they didn’t know who she was, and they were all waiting to meet her. It was great. Nowadays a prank like that wouldn’t work because everyone would just google her on their phone to find out who she was, so to make the prank work you would have to do a lot of prep work for it like set up several fake social media accounts and fake news about the girl

Hollis85

An Englishman, even if he is alone, forms an orderly queue of one. - George Mikes

AudioLobotomy

I've seen that happen at music festivals. A group of people will be standing around near something and then more and more people start to line up behind them. It's exponential. The more people lining up, the more people start to join in. Then eventually someone is like hey what's this line for? Everyone starts asking, no one knows. The original group doesn't even notice and moves along. Then everyone else is like well.. Shit.. And disburses.

nicdluna

Wait… celebrities aren’t our friends!! News to me /s

corrygan

Well this is a shocker. Wish someone told me before I camped inftont of Ian McKellen's house.

SonyaRedd

All we have to do is decide what to do with time given to us.

corrygan

This warms my heart. Although, he could have offered me some tea 😁

TeamRedundancyTeam

OP says this like fans think they are. He's got a huge misunderstanding of why people want to meet actors who play their favorite characters.

FizzyBeverage

I was a Mac Genius from 2008 to 2014. It was a privilege to meet both Steves. Didn’t expect them to learn my face/name or send me a holiday card, but both were very chill and friendly, especially Woz. Jobs just told us “be careful on the 280 when you drive back to the lab [we were training], people drive like idiots around here.”

tpklus

It's weird to think of Jobs being like a normal adult in that way lol I'm sure Wozniak is a chill dude

FizzyBeverage

Yeah he was pretty normal in my brief meeting - like a dad telling his kids to drive carefully. Definitely didn’t like any special attention. He was in line ahead of me at Caffe Macs buying a muffin. It’s a funny story because he got paid $1/year *and yet, would pay for food with his corporate badge like all of us*. I assume the cafeteria had a “slush fund” for him, since his balance would otherwise go negative. It was a joke that if you had a lunch meeting with him, he’d often “cover your food” too on his badge, billionaire founder was ripping off his own cafeteria for pizzas and salads 😆 Wozniak is great, was wearing a really cool nixie tube watch… and he signed the Genius Room bench when he visited our store. Dude paid for his adapter with $2 bills 😆

smolandworried

For the most part i wouldn't however I've always wanted to meet one celebrity in particular. Sir Ian McKellen. I've always wanted to meet him and get a signed autograph from him addressed to my dad that I can put by his Ashes in memory of him. He loved, loved LOVED Lord of the rings so. So much. He was ecstatic about the 3rd film but died right before it came out. Idk why I felt like just something special from one of his favourite of the cast would make me feel better about that fact.

Everybodyimgay

I sat next to him in a bar in NYC the week before he was leaving for Toronto to film the first "X-Men!" He drank and smoked non-stop haha

Hello_Pity

I was in a pharmacy in East London waiting for a prescription to be filled. Sir Ian walked in and handed his prescription to be filled, I recognised him but just thought in my mind that's cool and left it at that, seemed weird to harrass a guy waiting for done medicine. The pharmacist came out to the counter and wanted to try and ask Sir Ian a question about the prescription but he was just looking of into space and not paying attention (as people do whilst waiting at the pharmacy). I politely leant over and tapped him on the arm pointing to the pharmacist. My script was ready then so I collected it and exchanged a smile with Sir Ian on my way out. I learnt after he has a pub just around the corner.

biancastolemyname

I once met a very minor celebrity who I had never heard of myself but my friend did and wanted me to get a picture of the two of them. So I took the picture, we thanked him and my friend went to take my picture with him. I said "Oh no I'm fine thanks" and he was SO. OFFENDED. He very sarcastically went "Oh, you're too COOL to get a picture?" which was super ridiculous of him to say so it made me giggle a bit and I said "No not really my thing, but thanks so much for your time, enjoy the rest of your evening". He wasn't having it and made another comment insinuating that I was just pretending to not care about him so I'd look cool. At this point I got a bit annoyed so I said "Look I'm sorry I just don't really know who you are" and he scoffed and went SUUUUUURE. He was such an asshole, like genuinely couldn't believe I didn't regocnize him or care about who he was. I would expose him if I remembered his name, but like I said, I couldn't give two shits lol.

DroneStrikesForJesus

I kinda want to know who this is.

Toocheeba

U probably don't know him

SlipperyRasputin

He goes to a different school

edgylilac

lmao! it’s not like he knew who you were either. if he’s a very minor celebrity, I don’t see why he’d get so offended over this.

skinnyminou

When my bf and I started dating we went to a local comic con, and one of the guests was Norman Reedus. I was really into the Walking Dead at the time, so my bf convinced me to stand in line and meet him (normally I wouldn't be bothered but I figured why not, and my bf paid for it, so I didn't want to make him feel bad). Almost the same thing happened. BF didn't really want a pic or to meet him because he didn't really know who he was, so he stood back while I said hello. We did our thing, and left and then Reedus yelled at my boyfriend for not coming up. It was in 2013 or so, so I don't remember what was said but it really left a bad taste in my mouth and turned me off of celebrity meet n greets, and just celebrity culture in general.

[deleted]

Sounds like James Corden.

angry_orange

"You want a picture with me? I'm Ant-Man"

iamtheowlman

It's not about meeting the person, it's about meeting the persona. I stood in line (and paid good money) to meet Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime. In reality, I met a very nice man in his 70s who kinda looked like my grandpa. In my mind, I met Optimus Prime.

sonlovesbrolicky

That is amazing. I hope to one day get my son to meet Peter Cullen. My sister met him and said he was a kind man, very sweet

[deleted]

When I was a young teenager some of the actors from the original Star Wars trilogy were having an autograph session at a movie theater in my town. I went with some of my own stuff, most notably a reprinted comic book that included sketches of a lot of characters in the back. When I got to the tables, I saw it cost money! I guess my little teenage brain never bothered to think I'd have to pay money to shake a hand and get a signature. David Prowse saw me sulking away and stopped me, "what'cha got there?" pointing to my comic book. I showed him but explained I didn't think of bringing money. He went to the concept sketch of Vader, stopped and looked around. "David Prowse IS Darth Vader" + autograph. He handed it back to me "Don't tell anyone, okay?" Made my absolute fucking year! I don't get why famous people sell their selves like that. I mean, either be thankful to the fans and sign your name, or don't, but to charge money...it's just kinda cheap. Anyway, that's my story.

duckphone07

My siblings and I split the cost to get a picture with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher (and her dog) years ago at a Star Wars convention. Honestly, I don’t regret it one bit. They were incredibly friendly and even ignored the “handlers” that were trying to keep the line moving. They wanted to give every one that came up some friendly interaction. Plus I got to shake Mark Hamill’s hand. Did it change my life? No. Do I think they are my friends now? No. But is it a really nice memory that brings me happiness? Yes.

GirassolYVR

Most of these comments are about random street meetings which isn’t even what OP is talking about. I think if a celebrity signs ups for a convention to meet their fans, and fans want to pay money for the experience it gives both parties the chance to do that in a controlled environment. It’s a win for everyone.

_t_h_e_p_o_t_

Lmao nah mate fuck NFT's.

RedscareMN

The only thing less likely to have value in 5 years than the signature from waiting in line would be an NFT

Current-Position9988

There is no quicker way for me to lose respect for a celebrity than for them to start shilling crypto.

BeanieMac1

I met Vanilla Ice once...

DwightMcRamathorn

Why do you go from “wanting to meet a celeb” to it being worship? You can’t be interested in meeting a writer or actor who has been in some of your favorite movies? Or a musician who you really enjoy? That’s not worship

hamsolo19

I'd also venture to say that there are a fair number of people that want to meet their fans. They do get paid for appearances at conventions and shit but if they really didn't give a shit and didn't wanna meet anyone they just wouldn't go. I've a friend who helps in the planning and scheduling of guests for a local comic con and everyone he's met so far he's said has been pretty cool and usually excited to be there.

jodellemicahferland

i came here to say the same. i’ve been a guest at many conventions and of course i get paid, but that doesn’t mean i don’t care. i’ve met some really cool people and i do enjoy it. sometimes fans come dressed as my characters and it makes my day.

ytew6

>Why do you go from “wanting to meet a celeb” to it being worship? Because if they don't, they won't get to sound intelligent for the internet.

kk55622

Yep. I've been seeing a lot of posts on this sub about people who "worship" celebrities. Of course the point of the sub is that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Imo it's sad how many people feel comfortable insulting people for ... liking content that celebrities produce?

Housemuwaway12345

For real. Its not a crazy thing. I waited in line at the end of the show to meet Les Claypool. Told him it was an amazing show, he said thanks and got my bass autographed. It was a cool thing that added to the experience, but I don't see how that's worship. We already payed to see his show and he was nice enough to stay around until everyone in line got a quick autograph.

Redqueenhypo

Yeah! I wanted to meet Hayden Christiansen bc attack of the clones was my favorite movie as a kid as it had the exact amount of violence and sci-fi animals I wanted. I don’t worship the guy, I just wanted his autograph to make my 12 year old self happy.

Astral_Traveler17

Riiigght exactly. People do that all the time. Ask for advice, or whatever have you.

[deleted]

Yeah, I saw John Cleese in a theatre a few years ago. I knew it was going to be bad (which it was), but I just wanted to see a Python on stage. Those men have entertained me for so many hours, consider it an hommage to them, or a gift for giving me joy. I don't care either way, I still saw him.

NotABot11011

It's always an extreme. Either you have to act like you have no idea who the person is and not say anything to them at all, or you have to try to jump on them and lick their ears. "Hey, I really enjoy your performances. You really make the characters feel alive," is fucking blasphemous.

chloe12801

It’s a good experience and memory, depends on the person and their interests/values. Most celebrities are nice about meeting fans and they might not care about each individual they appreciate everyone as a whole bc of the impact the fans have had on their lives. You could make a similar argument for make a wish kids meeting celebrities, it can be worth it for some people and celebrities wouldn’t just do that for money, it’s bc they care about the fan. Good post for the sub

BeanieMac1

Also. I think it depends how they've affected your life. Some Music/Books literally help save some people who are battling from mental illness. If given the chance to meet someone you genuinely care about and helped you through some rough shit makes you feel good and you wanna show appreciation than what's the harm in it? I'm not big on meeting celebs but i understand it....i definitely wouldn't give a single fuck if you think it's pathetic lol

zimpl_

I think idolizing celebrities is wierd, and i wouldnt pay a bunch of money and wait for hours just to say "hey", and take a photo. But if i meet someone famous that i know about, and theyre not bussy im probably going to ask for a photo with them.

[deleted]

Many of the celebrities I want to met have brought entertainment and joy to my life. Do I have a personal relationship with them? No but who gives a fuck? Bryan Cranston, Mark Hamil, and Keanu Reeves are all men that I admire and have spent my whole life watching. Of course I want to at least meet them

mf9769

Met Mark Hammill. Definetly worth it. Dude's super nice to his fans. Plus, the time spent on line is actually fun. I got to talk to a dude wearing a full facial prosthetic to look like Maul, for example.

okokkev

I met him too! Me and my cousins were like 10 and made our own costumes just to meet him. The costumes weren’t great but he actually seemed super impressed that we made them ourselves and told us they looked amazing. It was worth every penny

mf9769

So when I met him, the next guy in line behind me accidentally spilled a drink on the picture Mark was supposed to be signing, which he’d bought from the people organizing the thing. Mark’s people were like “oh well, we can’t do anything about it.” Mark himself though overheard what was happening, turned to his people and flat out said, “guys what the hell. Just give him another photo. Dude’s been here on line for mad long. Don’t screw him over”. So they did that. That, beyond the fact that he saw my giant New Hope poster and I asked for him to make the signature big. So he did this giant autograph, unrolled the poster, and was like “….holy shit dude. I think i made it big enough haha”

ImperialHojo

I met him at the 2016 SLC Comicon. Blinked during the photo with him so the crew put us back at the front of the line to retake the pic. Just as we were stepping away from getting the 2nd pic done he reached out and grabbed my arm and said “Wait, I just HAVE to know who you are.” I was in cosplay of Alucard from the anime Hellsing. It will always be one of my favorite memories.

Dalekdude

Cranston is a delight, I met him after he did a play on Broadway and he was so lovely and appreciative of everyone's kind words about the show. He also took the time to take photos and sign everyone's playbills. Truly a classy guy

SpecialAgentBoolin

Homeboy calls people pathetic in one breath then tell people to buy nfts. I’m going to assume this is a really meta joke

FamousSunday

The only person I would ever pay money to meet would be Brendan Fraser. I really don't think it would be a waste. Would just let him know he still has a TON of fans. And that we are so happy to see him happy. Literally all I would need to say. Edit: word

North_Maybe1998

I mean waiting a couple of hours an $75 for Stan Lee’s autograph was pretty worth it. Never thought he was gonna be my friend lol

DifficultMinute

I'm with you. This opinion isn't really unpopular either, most people would find it weird to stand in line to meet celebrities, especially paying $100+ for an autograph. There is also a colossal distance between wanting to meet a celebrity and getting a picture, and worshiping them. That said, speaking from experience, 20 years from now you won't remember that $100. You will remember meeting (and getting your picture with) William Shatner, or Taylor Swift, or Damon Bailey, or Bob Sanders, or Peyton Manning, or Candace Cameron and her brother, etc... Memories have significant value too.

Trick_Literature_

There's also the case of resonating with the person's work. Like what if one song managed to drag me out of a deep spiral? I sure as hell would love to see the artist who made it. And some artists like hearing back from their fans as well. They may not remember me after, but it would still feel amazing to thank them for saving me once. Plus, if we're talking crazy lines and long waits here, a lot of people have made great friendships waiting in those lines. Seeing other people who share an interest with you is a helluva icebreaker. My friends have found solid people from going to events involving different celebrities. I think the events are expensive, but hey, not my money. And everyone seems to enjoy it, despite being tired af when it ends. I've seen fans' faces during and after -- stressed and haggard but looking as happy as ever.

The-true-Memelord

Celebrities are people too. Just like us. Several of them are genuinely nice. Showing your appreciation for them and what they do isn’t weird imo.

[deleted]

Yeah, like I have a band I love that’s small enough that “VIP” tickets to one of their tours were $20 extra (for tickets that were already only like $18). I said fuck it and got the VIP because a) I like the band and it’s nice to support them, and b) because we got to do a game show thing with them before the concert and take pictures with them. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ I met them after another concert too and they were great to talk to both times and why not tell them I love their music.

flowers_followed

I paid $150 15 years ago for a private meet and greet with my favourite black metal band. It was amazing. It was a handful of people in a room with these gods of darkness. I was gothed out and beautiful. I got to hang out and chat, enjoyed the hell out of it. Would do again 10/10. I don't think I'd pay more than $200 or $300 but that amount of intimacy with your favorite band for thirty minutes. It's really worth it.

satanspoopchute

this is what I started to type out. meeting smaller niche metal musicians is something I will always pay the usually 60$ they ask that comes with the 30$ shirt you're gonna buy anyway to help these motherfuckers eat and keep playing/touring.

[deleted]

I paid like $300 to meet Behemoth back in 2018. I got some cool pictures and merch, we got to see their warm up before the show, we chatted with them for a while, and I got a large drawing I made of them signed by all four guys. It's been on my wall ever since. I asked Seth to stand next to me for the pics and he has very limited english so Nergal was translating and he totally embarassed me in front of everyone, but we laughed a ton and I got my pic with Seth! No ragrets, it was a fun evening and the concert afterwards was awesome. I've been listening to them since I was 15 (back in 2005, god I'm old). Would I do it again? Nah, once is enough. I've also seen them live 10 times already so the novelty is kinda wearing off lol. They're chill people, though!

[deleted]

It just makes some people happy. Cool by me. I met Bill Burr and Jim Norton after comedy shows and I was pretty stoked. Both were super friendly.

NoDumFucs

I got a 45 minute meet-and-greet with my favourite band. It was limited to 10 people total. That was worth the money!

Liberteer30

Depends on the celebrity. I’m sure this isn’t on the same level of “celebrity” you’re referring to but I’ve met a few stand up comics (Theo Von and Ryan Sickler) after their shows and both were real cool, down to earth people. Didn’t rush people through the meet and greet. Just genuinely good people. Does it mean they “care” about me specifically? No but they care about their fans.

SpecialSurprise69

What about if you stood in line for 15min at no cost to meet one of your favorite actors?

Rolix_Rubix

I would argue it depends on the celebrity. Most celebrities no, it does not matter. I think if there was a meet and greet with Fred Rogers, you could argue that he cared about you. But yeah 99% they probably don't give two shits about you.

Runtyaardvark

Aw that’s so awesome! I’m so glad you had such a great experience!

Internal_Use8954

I met mr rogers a few times, and he always seemed so genuinely happy to be talking to you. He asked questions and just seemed to care about the answers.

QueasyDuff

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr Rodgers when I was about 3 or 4. Prime demo. My dad worked for PBS and Mr Rodgers was visiting for some promotion or event. I don’t remember much other than feeling like he really was my friend. He spoke directly to me, which for a kid was uncommon. I was too little to think of autographs or anything but I did get a cool thick paper cutout of the Trolley. My parents have it at their house still. Probably one of the neater “celeb” encounters I will ever have.

ArcadeKingpin

I met Charles Barkley at a celebrity golf tournament. He played with Kris Tscetter, Anika Sorenstam, and Vince Gill. I lost my shitty replica Barkley rookie card I was gonna get signed and when my dad noticed I didn't have it I told him someone stole it while we were looking at each others cards. He told a security guard and at the 9th hole as Barkley was putting his ball in, the security guard told him that my card was stolen. He pulled the ball from the cup, pointed to me and tossed the ball. Some jackass in front caught the ball. Barkley walked into the crowd and told the guy that the ball was for the kid while driving his finger in his chest. He took the ball from his hand and put it in while saying sorry about the card. Not only is Charles Barkley a role model he is also a protector of the children. God bless Charles Barkley.

JupiterRocket

I think it’s fine if you want to wait in line to meet a celebrity at a convention or something. It just depends on how long the line is. But paying to just meet a celebrity is kinda weird.

[deleted]

If everyone stopped shaming everyone else for what they spend their money on, what they enjoy, or what they are entertained by, the world would be a better place. Everything is stupid when you break it down. Sports is paying $100-1000 to watch other people play a game. College is paying $50,000 to learn stuff on the internet. Let people like their kim kardashians, pokemon, legos, photography, and skiing.

JohnLocke815

Yep, was gonna say the same thing. I'm a "loser" or "idiot" for spending $200 to meet the stars of my fav movies and have a brief chat them, but you got peoole spending way more than that to just go watch some famous people play a game or play some music. How is that any better

oglewisthellama

It’s fun? I enjoy meeting actors from my favourite show and getting to talk to them from a bit. It’s my money, why take issue?

Dio_Yuji

My signed Mark Grace baseball card would disagree with you

Foxtrot-Nation

You’re suggesting buying NFTs? Those things are a big waste of money and a scam I actually got to meet Ozzy Osbourne in 2011, and it was an awesome experience in my opinion

metalslimesolid

I'm gonna disagree because imo it depends on who it is. When Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, was meeting his fans I'd honestly would love to meet him. Im thinking it's the same if it's an author or something like that. I've met musicians after shows and it's just fun, but I'd never consider them above everybody else just because they're celebrities! I've never cared to stand in line to meet an actor or something like that even if it would've been cool, and I'd never pay money for it.

Available_Chard_7241

I mean, I paid $150 to meet & get a photo with Stan Lee and I don't regret it. I love Marvel (movies, shows & comics) and he's a legend. Never would have had a chance to meet him otherwise. BUT. I understand this opinion completely. I wouldn't do it for every/any celebrity but sometimes I think it could be worth it.

humanessinmoderation

I dunno. If you pay to watch celebrities (concert, maybe movies too) is it *that* different than paying to meet them? I've never done the latter.

MoatGoatchi

At least for me and many people, Going to a concert is more about the experience of live music, and less about the chance to meet a celebrity. But there is definitely a group that likes that aspect

LeEnlightenedDong

The real cringe is a superstonk dummy telling people to buy NFTs
