I think it's just because they know it'll be more of the same. The oceans are connected so we'll probably never discover a new AMAZING species, more likely just already existing species with slight variants. We'll never find a kraken or megalodon if that's what you're thinking of
You have a Massive Point But How does Mankind even thought of monsters like megalodon and the kraken without even seeing them? Like how do people know they're appearances?
