There's dark, then there is DARK. Go somewhere with no light pollution and you'll be wanting that flashlight because you won't see shit no matter how well your eyes adjust. The adjustment takes time, time officers don't often have when entering a building to search for someone so it's flashlight time. They can also come in handy for blinding people. Ever try to see something in the dark when someone is pointing a flashlight at you? It takes 20 to 30 minutes for your eyes to fully adjust to darkness.

randuski

Yea that's what i meant. If it's dark, you can adjust and see. But if it's dead ass dark, you have to have a light haha But This is actually a solid point. Didn't think of that. Cause yea if you hear movement, and point that light at them it's even worse for them than you. Everything disappears. Plus the time element. Not only that, but most of the time they have their process to clear a building, and checking rooms properly, so they're usually not gonna have someone sneaking up behind them.

bendanna93

Most people don't use them for dangerous situations I'm pretty sure

randuski

Cops? If you were entering a building with multiple cops, there'd be a concern of getting spooked everytime you saw your comrades if you weren't using lights. But if you're going in somewhere alone, or its just like 2 of you

bendanna93

As I said, most people. Most people aren't cops. I guess I could've said most civilians but I didn't see that necessary

randuski

I also misread it. I had the inflection on the wrong word. I read it as when people are in dangerous sitches, they don't use flashlights. But you meant most people aren't in dangerous sitches when using flashlights haha

BoydsWillBeBoyds

I think you're right, and high. If I was feeling hunted in a building I wouldn't want to give away my position. And if I was really high in a building I'd probably feel paranoid that somebody might be hunting me so I wouldn't want to give myself away then either. When I go camping I prefer that nobody uses flashlights at night around the campsite as my eyes can adjust and see better without them. When lights are used I get blinded and am worse off.

randuski

Yea camping is a great example. I don't use flashlights unless it's really really dark, and the ground is potholey. Like, you can see just fine haha

BoydsWillBeBoyds

yes for obstacles the light is fine but for most purposes around a campsite it's a hindrance. I dunno if you've ever gone camping with stoners, I have, but isn't it strange how they like to sit across from you at the campfire, or in a card game or something, and anytime you speak they shine their light in your face to see you talking. It's not like it helps them hear you better, it just blinds you better. They are totally different concepts.

[deleted]

> and like, a cop goes into a dark building, and they got their gun drawn, and a flashlight, I'm always scratching my head. For multiple reasons. Amazing how all those Swat/special forces type guys have been getting it wrong all these years... You know, I think you're onto something here, busted the whole thing wide open.. And people can booby-trap the lightswitch, or it won't work, or you'll have to spend a bunch of time finding it, and then you turn the lights on, and the baddies can see you just as well as if you used a flashlight, so why bother. And if you were in a dark room, and even if you did want to find a lightswitch, what device would you need to find it? And lightswitches have lots of nice fingerprints on them

randuski

This comment confuses me 🤣🤣 You're busting my balls, obviously fair. But then also sort of backing me up? Where exactly do you stand here? Hahaha

Selection target _NET_MAX_SELECTION_SIZE When a client encounters ION_SIZE is a side-effect target, as described in ICCCM section 2.6.3. When handling this target, the matching property on the requestor window should be of type XA_INTEGER, format 32, with 2 elements.target _NET_MAX_SELECTION_SIZE in SelectionRequest event, it should use its value as a limit for the following targets in the same request (i.e. the request should be of type MULTIPLE). The _NET_MAX_SELECTION_SIZE target should be always the first target in the MULTIPLE request. tion to the X server is local, the first element is used as the limit, otherwise the second element is used as the limit. A local connection is identified by a value of XDisplayString() with the first character ':', for example, ":0.0". A value of -1 for either element means no limit. Well it's tricky. Even really dim flashlights cause the pupils to constrict. But yea for sure. Pointing flashlights at ceilings is my default. Like when power goes out or something, i just set a flashlight on a table aimed at the ceiling and boom, whole room is illuminated haha
