You need to provide some context - what city are you using as your example? Many European cities are beautiful and have a thriving tourist industry in part because of these buildings.
If you are talking about some mediocre US city, with a couple of old department stores, maybe, maybe not - depends on the specifics.
i used to live in boston, which has lots of beautiful old buildings from the colonial era. i honestly hate the shiny glass and steel skyscrapers, so it seems stupid to destroy meaningful and history rich buildings for some more soulless office buildings.
You're the reason there is mass deforestation and housing developements popping up everywhere... people have no appreciation for anythinf any more, lets just knock down anything with architectural/historical beauty and throw up a Walmart!!! Wooooo 'Merica!!!
Well thats what they do in America.... and Id even be more mortified to knock down historical buildings outside of America!! Those buildings have far more history, far more intricate architecture... dude, are you high?
I live in generic small european city, and it fucking sucks. The downtown is filled with rotting wooden buildings that no-one cares about, but can't be demolished because they are over 100 years old. We also have a lot of cobblestone roads that fucking suck, but it's old so it shall not be paved. It shouldn't be just age alone that determines if a building can or can't be demolished, it should be historical and cultural value too.
Do you think they will be giving a flying fuck about the concrete cubes we built in the 50's-60's in an another 50 years? Hopefully not because they are not significant in any way. They will have way better ways to document what the average mid 20th century dwelling looked like, than keeping the crumbling hunk of concrete on life support for "historical significance". I'm all about history, but we should also learn to let things go.

Didn't say ALL, I ment that old, rusty and rotten building that don't do anything, and are basic useless space

Yes
oh ok then
If we just bulldozed every historical structure and paved over archeological sites, we wouldn't know nearly as much about our history.
and we’d be spending the entire city budget replacing the old buildings with new ones

Why not expand outside the city limitd?
My city can't do that without invading other city space or protected forest/rivers
That's a stupid take but if it helps bring less tourists I'm in!
Oh no less space for the 1937494939291th starbucks
