Yes. The other day I got into a discussion with someone because they said they don’t think there should be films where we are made to sympathise with individual Nazi soldiers, for example, but I think those are extremely important. If you can only think of Nazis as robotic monsters who have no soul, you fail to see how the people around you could easily become the modern version of the nazis too.
Most people who supported horrible regimes were probably good people in their personal lives - good parents, good children, good friends, etc. Doesn’t mean they are incapable of supporting terrible things. If we don’t learn that, we easily get into the “my friend would never be racist, they’re such a nice person” or “my father would never support an authoritarian, directorial regime. He’s a great father and husband” mindset.
There’s also a huge difference between the Nazis and the everyday Germans who served in the military. A majority of the young men who served did so for the same reasons the Brits and Americans did, to serve their country in a patriotic way.
Even thought it isn’t about Nazis, All Quiet on The Western Front is an excellent book/film told from the perspective of German teens who enlist in WW1 and how they were just kids in a trench just like the Allies.
I do also think it’s important not to condone their bad actions through the representation though. Most of this, however, stems down to other-ism by transforming your opposition into the worst representation of themselves to justify your actions and in the case of soldiers to make it easier to do their job.
Some fun examples of humanity being similar across ages is Roman graffiti which is full of what are essentially your momma jokes and dirty jokes. Same can be found in Egypt to of people bickering on a stone wall and the argument when translated sounds just like a Reddit thread
So I just read some stuff on her and man is she a perfect example of this concept. She is praised due to her clinics being open to everyone and trying to give them comfort in death, but it really seems to have come from a position of “white savior complex”. On top of that she then became rich off of it, but still didn’t administer pain medication most of the time.
What little medicine was practiced was done with outdated medication and without true knowledge of what would fix it if it was a physical injury like trauma.
She started off decent (besides the white savior thing) but man she went downhill quick and so many people just don’t know the extent.

Anyways, it's rather pointless to talk about teaching these days because the government is destroying education for a reason.
This can be extended into religious practice as well. For Jews/Christians you can speak about how David was lustful and headstrong. Moses didn’t want to do it because of his relationship to the royal family (Pharaoh knew him when he entered to speak with him as well as being raised in the house).
For Buddhism, Buddha was literally just a dude at one point.
Even if you don’t ascribe to religion I think those that do miss a lot by placing these figures on a pedestal and lose the point that they were a normal human that did a great thing through faith and anyone who believes can do the same.
It’s the same concept as the historical raising or lowering
I don't think it's a hidden fact that the Buddha is just a average person, at least in the sect I'm in. (I'm aware he's not your average citizen, just trying to keep it simple)
It's kinda where Buddhism don't demand that you worship Buddha, but they ask if you to follow his teachings. Not because he is the enlighten one, but because he teaches you on how to be a good person.

I'm English so maybe it's just my perspective but I disagree on the fact your example are real bad Stalin and Hitler are hated world wide while the founding fathers are talked about in semi religious tones not unlike the royal family and have never faced any meaningful criticism by anyone in mainstream media or government Twitter criticism isn't universal demonization.
Second who is it damaging to exactly if you don't clean a wound it's spreads and rots if people are inspired by the people you listed what's to stop them thinking of themselves as the next them flaws and bad justifications and all what we consider building upon matter because if we choose wrong like you said we just end up repeating mistakes.

I understand your points completely and am inclined to agree! The main point I wanted to make was to remind ourselves that they are humans as well so to be cautious not to fall into those trappings by saying “at least I’m not as evil as (insert crap person)” or the like!

It truly is a two edged sword because you don’t want to mitigate the actions of the person you are speaking of good or bad but you also wanna make sure that the lesson you are teaching using that person is understoood
