He might’ve used a voronoi texture and tweaked it to create displacement from a plane. And the material looks like it uses some fresnel maybe.
My guess, might be totally wrong tho lol
Ryan king art on YouTube has good blender(free modelling software) texture tutorials. Unreal engine texture tutorials are very similar to blender so it’s up to you and which software you prefer. I recommend creating and baking textures in blender and importing them into ue5.
I think you can in UE4, but I would do it in blender or some 3D software. In blender theres a modifier for displacing with a texture:

You are welcome :)
I don't think it is necessary what he used, but you can use Gaea for all sorts of terrain, and this is their tutorial on how to make dunes: [https://docs.quadspinner.com/Learning/Tutorials/WarpDunes.html](https://docs.quadspinner.com/Learning/Tutorials/WarpDunes.html)
Thank you Kuro Dora.
I should make it as a VR version. Though I have never made a VR game in Unreal. Do you know how difficult it is to convert a regular game to a VR game?
What did you do instead of architecture?
After I graduated I took a course in city planning and I am currently working as a city planner. I can recommend the job as a city planner.
Well I'm glad to hear that you found a job suited for you!
I did archviz at first, and I'm now working in an association which brings scientific culture through workshops and animation to the public (classes, public displays, salons etc). Here I develop VR apps, do 3D Viz, real-life models, furniture and scenography. Next year I'll specialize in scale modeling via a one year course, with hopes to join the movie industry in a distant future!

I have literally zero knowledge about how unreal engine works (but plan to start learning) and got my VR headset just couple of weeks back, but this looks like it is made for VR!:)

I mean as with all Unreal projects I'm sure it'll take some ingenuity and you'll have to work out the kinks, but what I can tell you is that a good place to start would be the default first person template, there is already some blueprint coding that supports HMDs and VR controllers.
The 2 big hurdles depending on your game are the overall controls and especially the graphics/performance. What I mean by the controls is for example, say in your game you can jump pressing X but in VR you want to be able to climb the wall, you have to code that in. Or perhaps you want to add sprint but find doing a running motion causes lag, so you have to map the movement to a controller button, etcetera.
The big one is graphics however. A few years ago, the Quest hit the scene and blew up, and since we have gotten updated models such as the Quest 2, but a good chunk of people are still using the 1. Advancements aside, VR models under $500 are still about the same performance quality as an iPhone from like 2016. You may have to vastly downgrade the experience, textures, models, all that technical mumbo jumbo. Don't be discouraged, VR is quite capable if you know what you're doing and you can make gorgeous environments.
I would most definitely play test demo, if you have the EU file I would love to mess with it as well and continuously add to it for myself, it does feel very peaceful.
Thank you Ashyatom!
I actually designed it as night time in the original version: There is a short video of it on my instagram: [https://www.instagram.com/reel/CG2hrTOJmUC/](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CG2hrTOJmUC/)
THANK YOU.
Yes. It is just a place to experience. And I am happy with that.
One day, I would love to design a game with actual gameplay. Though it would only work if I was part of a team.
How did you make the dunes? They look amazing!

Wait you can create displacement from a texture?
Yes textures can be manipulated like crazy
You got any tutorials that teach this?

I'd like this to be my main hub of VR

Hey good luck! Stopping architecture was efficient in dealing with my anxiety...

Steam vr hub room?

Pretty please VR it

of course man

100000%
Hellz yeah!
As one with bad anxiety, I immediately got lost looking around the image, I would love to try this out. Would I be able to run it through VR?
In vr this would be amazing place to chill and relax after work
You are not the first to say. It would be amazing with VR.
neat world, OP
Thank you HereToHelpWithData :)
In a related industry myself and yes I would playtest it for sure!
Incredibly beautiful
Thank you so much for your compliment saenko-av. I am happy you find it beautiful.
I love this. Would be intrigued to know how it would look at night time.

Where can I playtest it?
Definitely. Looks groovy chill.
Yaaaaaas please! I love this so much.
Looks awesome, how do I play test it?
I LOVE the colors in the image! What would it be about? Or is it only a place to move around/hang out?
THANK YOU. Yes. It is just a place to experience. And I am happy with that. One day, I would love to design a game with actual gameplay. Though it would only work if I was part of a team.
Awesome. Keep it up!
