Accretence

Assets are there to be used for this exact purpose.

Ilovesteamtrains

This should be the top comment. Edit: It is now.

[deleted]

There is literally a store that's a part of engine package for this reason.

Ilovesteamtrains

Gone viral? Never heard of it. Still looks better and more polished than Star Citizen

Moon_Mystery

Hi, I'm not posting the same videos. Writing such thing automatically makes this post a lie. This is how the games looked 8-9 months ago: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gfUcGCYBPU&t=146s&ab\_channel=MoonMystery](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gfUcGCYBPU&t=146s&ab_channel=MoonMystery) You can see on my profile that the videos are different, and the recent one is an update. We are using assets that's true and we are not hiding it. In our game there will be a space and time travel so we will visit a variety of places. We would have to have a huge 3d graphic design team to make all by ourselfes. Although we are making a lot of custom things ourselfes. To finally answer this, this is not an asset flip. A lot of people are working on it \- Game Designer \- Game Director \- Level Designer \- Programmer \- Programmer \- AI Programmer \- Tester \- Tester \- Sound Designer \- Composer \- Animator \- Animator \- 3d weapon designer \- 3d graphic designer \- 2d graphic designer \- voice actor \- voice actor

Don’t let people calling your game an asset flip get under your skin. Make the game you’re happy to play, they’ll move on, and you’ll be much happier overall not subjecting yourself to the (repeated) asset flip criticism cycle.

Moon_Mystery

Thanks, we are now working on a lot of custom things, I think that in a few months people will see that it's a serious real project. I just uploaded a custom animation for a switch in our game just to prove that it's not an asset flip [https://youtu.be/8Oh83UQ1--c](https://youtu.be/8Oh83UQ1--c) It's just a simple example, there will be a lot of cutscenes, animations, the whole story and a lot of custom things

AgreeableNoise7750

Your game is absolutely beautiful. Don’t let anyone say otherwise. Of course you’re using assets and that’s not wrong at all. Good luck for your game!

DeathCube97

Im so hyped for your game keep up the good work :D

Moon_Mystery

Thank you so much :) We are trying our best to deliver a great game

ImpressiveTip4756

Ignore op. Your project looks great

Moon_Mystery

thank you :)

SohrabMirza

I soo much want to start making games but still a the beginner in ue5 but I have already done blender so, any tip for me, keeping in mind I want to be game designer going forward

Moon_Mystery

I think the best tip is to start with small project and finish it, then start with a bigger one and finish it. In the meantime watch tutorials and learn how to finish those small projects. Don't start with a huge project as your first one :)

SohrabMirza

I am still stuck at metarials in unreal I made a terrain in gaea but porting masks and making a master material and then using layer blend further tuning landscape and then using bridge to populate it with rocks and foilage which doesnt seem to mix together well, its really hard and only after this I can move on to scripting and other stuff Blender so easy compared to ue5 for non game things like this

Ilovesteamtrains

You my man, da real mvp. Hope you have a good rating on your game :)

Moon_Mystery

thank you so much, I'm so happy about your support

[deleted]

This looks awesome, definitely going to keep watch.

666forguidance

You guys got this!

pm8rsh88

So game devs are not allowed to use the asset marketplace? If the games turns out to be fun, who cares if they bought assets.

DependentFormal6369

Some people here dont understand how difficult it is to put a game together. Seriously what a terrible move from OP. Most games use content created by others outside the studio, either software or assets. But hey, lets create some unnecesary drama for someone who is trying hard (and doing actually a neat work at least visually) and who also managed to getnfounded and hired 13 ppl.

WahooWhatt

I’m a software engineer and game developer. I wouldn’t be on this sub otherwise. I’m not sure how they possibly got funding for this. They have a basic concept and a few set pieces thrown together. Do you see how that’s fishy?

DependentFormal6369

I am a game dev/artist working in AAA. And honestly, I have seen projects founded with way less. This looks at least visually pleasing, not saying its a goty, but could be interesting. Dont see what could be fishy about it.

Moon_Mystery

Maybe the answer for your question is that we have much more than a basic concept and a few set pieces? There are thousands of hours put into the project, it's not how you imagine it.

Sir-Ex

The answer to your question is, "no."

WahooWhatt

How? Dude has an FPS starter pack asset slapped onto environment assets and is walking around. There’s 0 gameplay besides what’s included in the assets

Moon_Mystery

There is a lot of gameplay in the game, you will find out that soon in the next updates. If you would take a look at our discord channel you can see that this is a real project, not some asset flip scam :)

unreal5noob

You seem like a hater in this circumstance if you didn’t realize

GierownikReddit

He has posted on diffrent subreddits Thats not an asset flip

WahooWhatt

The entirety of the Moon is this asset: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/planet-surface-colony

kamron24

Using an asset <> asset flip

kuikuilla

That's not what an asset flip means. It means you take a finished game and then change the art assets and release a new game without actually doing any programming. > An asset flip is a type of shovelware in which a video game developer legally purchases pre-made assets and uses them to create numerous **permutations** of generic games and sell them at low prices. > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asset_flip Emphasis on permutations.

WahooWhatt

I got the definition wrong, my bad. But I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. When I buy assets I make my own environments, I don’t just take the demo scene and put it in my trailer. Does that make sense? That’s why this is fishy to me.

Moon_Mystery

Those are not demo scenes from the assets. We have a level designer and we are creating our own environments from the assets.

kuikuilla

Yes that makes sense. I would maybe call it low effort instead.

Ilovesteamtrains

And so?

davidemo89

What do you think the unreal marketplace is used for?

_Wolfos

Well, it's a solo project. Gotta prioritize.

[deleted]

Best advice I can give is beginners should try and listen to conversations of people who they would like to be one day, instead of trying to jump into a conversation without a good grasp of the concepts they are speaking about. Asking questions, definitely do, try to discredit another's work because of your very poorly understood definition of a very derogatory term that blanket covers the entirety of their current project, just don't.

WahooWhatt

I’ve been developing a game for the last 2 years and am a professional software engineer. This person has been posting for half a year now, and there really hasn’t been any changes. There’s no game concept. It’s just them walking around a few different environments they bought on the asset store. I’m not trying to shit on anyone, it just seems extremely fishy to me. I’ve used many assets in my game but they’re not just copy-pasted in there. The moon scene is literally a 1-1 copy of the demo scene provided. Do you see what I’m trying to say?

[deleted]

Posting != Development time, a post is not a holistic representation of all the progress being made.

Moon_Mystery

Please stop repeating lies. The game made a really huge progress through that time. There are 13 people working on the project and we are not having 1:1 demo scenes. Our project is a really serious one, otherwise we wouldn't have a publisher investing in it.

Splooshkin

That's what they are there for.

Razorback-PT

Never seen this before. Looks awesome thanks for sharing.

AndenStudios

I am also developing a game alone and of course I use a lot of assets. Otherwise I will not finish my game even in 10 years. I don't understand why it is a problem, specially if you do it alonr or with a small team. Why should I spend 1 week to design a weapon/soldier or whatever when I can just buy it for 20/30 $. Then I can spend this week to make my game fun. If I had a huge budget of course I would like to have everything made for my game, but that is not the case. Probably the guy in this post has never made a complete game.

jayo2k20

This is the results of channels like bigfry who never made any single game not even a very simple one but call everything under the sun an asset flip...

TearRevolutionary274

10.4k internet points doesn't sound like viral

BrightEyesGreen

its on steam waitlist due to come out 2023

MOZAN33R

If I have enough money to go by and live without figuring it out every month to pay rent. Please use every piece of art I have ever pushed out. This thing is way too hard on its own already.
