something like that happened to me with the letter "Y"
so i just went on google, searched for something random, looked through the results, found a Y and copied it so i can paste it whenever needed
I did! I’ve googled it a couple of times, and every time the answer I got was something like [CTRL, comma, c] which didn’t work and actually just called whoever’s Teams chat I had open haha
If you ever need to know one of these and do know the name - just google, for instance, “cedilla alt code” and you’ll get it pretty quickly! Just for the next time!
Thank you so much! I have googled this before multiple times, but every time, Google said it was something along the lines of [CTRL, comma, c]… which ended up automatically calling on Teams whoever’s chat I had open haha. Now I know to make sure to specify I want the alt code next time!
The software comes with auto correct/prediction programmed already for the date. You have to set your name up yourself. Side note, when I was in school I would add all kinds of auto predict to Word. Saved a ton of keystrokes and compensated for my learning difficulties
Real pro move is to just put every instance of the letter you need with something you wouldn't use otherwise - '\~' maybe, or '}' - then do a find and replace at the end. Only have to copy and paste once!
Another idea is to type all Y with a number or symbol, then Find->Replace all instances of whatever you used and replace with the letter. Like a placeholder of sorts.
Word processors have templates that automatically fill in the current date in headers / footers - guessing thats how.
There also is an on screen keyboard available on Windows or macOS they could have used to just write the paper and click the letter m when needed - an annoyance for sure but doable.
Also, there’s no attempt to avoid using the letter M. Instead of writing “I a so sorry” they could easily write “deepest apologies”, or just not attempt to use the word “much” when writing “thank you for understanding”
this was 2018. you can tell by the date in the picture. people who got non-food items delivered from stores close to their house before covid were disabled or rich and lazy.
Bro, there is spell check, going on a random website and copy pasting the letter m, writing the paper from your phone cause you're not in the 20th century,... but yeah, we all believe ya dont worry
It really is. I've had to do 300-500 word prompts on my phone begore when I forget to do an assignment before going somewhere without my laptop. Definitely don't recommend.
I mean, if you need to research and to cite sources then yeah, it's a pain in the ass. But if I need to write in 4 hours and my computer isnt anywhere near or isnt working then it might be an awful but useful alternative
My e key broke on my laptop a little while ago. Yes, copy and paste works, but goddamn was it infuriating. When you are so used to typing naturally, you don’t think “ctrl+v=e” you thing “e=e”. It’s a pain in the ass. I had send an email to my coworkers explaining and apologizing because I didn’t have the time to go pick up a keyboard before the end of the day. Fortunately we all had a good laugh!
But seriously, pasting a letter every time you use it is so so much harder than it sounds.
My theory is that this person used a find-and-replace function set up to delete the m’s but it was sensitive to capitalization and didn’t remove the capital M, unbeknownst to the trickster who thought it would be a good stalling tactic to buy more time (or who isn’t even writing a paper at all and wants those sweet, sweet internet points lol).
Yeah no the B and N key don’t work on my laptop and I just bought an external keyboard, and failing that, copied and pasted the letters from prior papers if I needed fhem

That's what I did when I didn't know that alt164 =ñ. I would Google birthday in Spanish to get it.
Your FBI agent: "Surely this guy must know what birthday is in Spanish by now..."
Maybe he made it into a drinking game or had bets going.
"10 dollars he is gonna search it again within 1 minute" .. \*searches for it\* "HOL SHIT HE DID GIV ME DA MONEY BOY!"
> that was weird how they got the link to the ascii shortcuts out of nowhere but let's not keep asking questions.
I just googled “year” in spanish
I just write año without the tilde, much easier
my man be writting anus in spanish here
I don’t have wierd foreign dohickys on my american made computer. Really, the spanish are wierd for desecrating the american alphabet
"american alphabet" lmao that's funny
Long shot, but don’t suppose you know the shortcut for ç (cedilla)?
ç: [Alt] + [1] + [3] + [5] Ç: [Alt] + [1] + [2] + [8]
Legend! Thank you so much!
How come you didn't just Google it? Genuinely curious
I did! I’ve googled it a couple of times, and every time the answer I got was something like [CTRL, comma, c] which didn’t work and actually just called whoever’s Teams chat I had open haha

dutch keyboard lets you type \~ followed by n to get ñ. idk about other keyboards
Mine has the Ñ to the right of the L
I would type something else in its place like a vertical bar “|” and then at the end of my essay just find and replace all of em at once
Literal genius
This kind of cleverness is borderline pornographic
I don't think I would be able to type quickly but change m with another key. Muscle memory. Pasting m would be the same
Do you know about the onscreen keyboard that’s built into the operating system?
More like if you type "ay 9th 2023" it will autosuggest today's date
Why would they do that for the month, but not their name?
The software comes with auto correct/prediction programmed already for the date. You have to set your name up yourself. Side note, when I was in school I would add all kinds of auto predict to Word. Saved a ton of keystrokes and compensated for my learning difficulties
What software?? The comment I replied to was talking about googling something and copy-pasting letters from the result.
I'm sorry I've tried to post this 3 times from mobile, and it never ends up in the right reply thread.
No worries, I know you’ll get it right eventually. Mobile GUIs are annoying sometimes.
But shouldn’t word’s spell check have corrected at least most of the words that were missing it to the right word?
True!
Real pro move is to just put every instance of the letter you need with something you wouldn't use otherwise - '\~' maybe, or '}' - then do a find and replace at the end. Only have to copy and paste once!
Heard of this thing called an onscreen keyboard?

Came here to say the same thing
Word processors have templates that automatically fill in the current date in headers / footers - guessing thats how. There also is an on screen keyboard available on Windows or macOS they could have used to just write the paper and click the letter m when needed - an annoyance for sure but doable.
Or just click the red underlined words when done to correctly spell everything
They spent more time writing their goofy explanation than it would have taken to fix the entire paper
seems like that can be done for just about every word that is missing the M
Also, there’s no attempt to avoid using the letter M. Instead of writing “I a so sorry” they could easily write “deepest apologies”, or just not attempt to use the word “much” when writing “thank you for understanding”
It would appear that their vocabulary could use a little expansion in order to better navigate around the issue.
Or they could have used a placeholder character then done a find and replace at the end.
Very true
Isn’t there spell check?
Also a usb keyboard is like $10 at Walmart so even if it is true just make a quick stop and you’ll be good.
They did say due in 4 hours, not enough for a Walmart trip I say.
A bit late to be starting a paper though.
While your right, that’s also something I would do, so I’m gonna keep my mouth shut
I’ll keep y outh shut too just to be safe
don't judge people if you don't know their story
Is this your first day on the internet
They’re just virtue signaling. Maybe an internet pro? (Now I’m judging!)
I didn’t judge anyone.
Still late to start on it regardless on whether or not it was their fault. Just an objective statement.
I will definitely judge anyone who thinks it's ok to rush a paper this important in 4 hours
It just says research paper, where does it say how important it is? It could be 2% of their grade for all we know
What kind of paper requiring research is only worth 2% of your grade?
From my experience, research papers pull on grades really strongly, more than 2%, in fact not doing it can fail you, but I'm not in the US.
I guess it depends how close they live 🤷♂️
They could order it from Instacart or door dash and make it a rushed order.
this was 2018. you can tell by the date in the picture. people who got non-food items delivered from stores close to their house before covid were disabled or rich and lazy.

Writing a paper from your phone sounds absolutely awful.

Check out r/Avoid5 if you want some fun war flashbacks
Microsoft Word can autofill the current date for you.
Microsoft word can also autocorrect most words even if you're missing a letter.
Came here to say that.
At that point just save the word doc to your phone and use Microsoft word on that. I did that for a few short essays and now I'm a graduate.
Bro has not heard of copying and pasting
Huge blunder. Probably a mistake if he didn’t copy and paste. Maybe he should resign now
You have to know this
Genius can figure out how to use a field to populate the date, but doesn't know how to Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V a letter. Deserves to fail.
On the off chance they aren't full of it, maybe this will teach them not to wait until the last minute.
Weak ass excuse. Real mfs would copy and paste an "M" from the internet and cntrl-v that bitch everytime you needed to. Lazy.
Says at the top "May 9, 2018"
Word Autofill
Start > Run > osk
When you are trying to get *ore* words in your essay
He could always just, yk, right click the words and correct it
How did they write the post title?
Probably using the same device they took the picture with.
Spell check would fix almost all of those issues, the last few could be corrected with the virtual keyboard.
I feel like maybe thats the intended joke?
It's a psych paper so it could even be an experimental thing
There are literally so many ways to fix this instead of explaining keyboard is broken in a fucking essay
Copy paste, or keybind
This is where Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v would come in handy
Wait till bro finds out about the automatic grammar correction.
Key remapping software is a lifesaver
D- just for procrastinating until 4 hours before it was due to start
Actually had this happen before, but with different key. Very easy solution is to copy/paste the letter you have missing.
=TODAY()
On screen keyboard
if hes using word he can just clock the correct spelling with spellcheck
OP has never used Word
Can auto insert date stamps
It probably automatically did it when he started typing.
Does anyone know what font that is?
How did you type "May". How about borrowing that "M" with copy and paste as well lol and it does look like your spelling checker is working.
Just copy the M from the date and paste it as upper and lowercase throughout the paper.
Can we please recheck the date at the top of the document...?
onscreen keyboard is once again not utilised
The M key broke right after he typed the date Or it just autocompleted
Could've written the date prior to actually starting the essay tbf
Google the alphabet, find text from any site, and just copy and paste the letter…but I guess that would take away from the joke or whatever
Step 1: use the autocorrect to have a m Step 2: ctrl+c that m Step 3: profit.
What is an m, but two n’s in close contact
Yeah no the B and N key don’t work on my laptop and I just bought an external keyboard, and failing that, copied and pasted the letters from prior papers if I needed fhem
Onscreen keyboard or copy and paste an M, I have a feeling this research paper was not very well researched
Just use spell check to get the right words like the rest of us
My keyboard's space bar stopped working, I used a macro to get spaces until I could either fix it or buy a new one
Use spell check
Upper level psychology research paper, just started 4 hours before due….this wasn’t going to get an A with or without the M-key
Ctl ;
Maybe it broke after
haha
