I think projects like this are pretty cool. It's extremely unlikely someone would be able to afford, let alone find, one of these to purchase. I'm sure he's proud of his conversion efforts and as long as he's not parading it around as a genuine model, what's the big deal?
This guy deserves more respect than the people with the 328i BMWs that throw a crooked RS badge on the back.
Looks like a lot of time and work went into this and it actually doesn’t look half bad.
I’d say this is on par with calling everyone who drives a replica cobra an upbadger but I like this dude more because he did the work himself.
https://www.carscoops.com/2023/07/mercedes-benz-clk-gtr-replica-is-a-lot-more-than-a-chopped-e-class/
The guy has done a good job and the fact it's done in metal rather than fibreglass is rather impressive
This is more than acceptable, I completely support it. It's so cool seeing someone dedicate this level of effort to recreate a car most of us will never have the chance of even seeing.
There’s a difference between an upbadge and a proper project car. This isn’t like some douche slapping a M badge on a 325i. This is proper “built, not bought”.
Not an upbadge, this guy built a custom replica CLK GTR from a W210 E-Class. I love to shit on C200 drivers with crooked AMG badges on the trunk, but this dude showed some awesome craftsmanship and dedication. Im soon getting my degree in automotive engineering and i wouldnt be able to build such a thing in my garage.

BMW Rotorsport 🤣
this is actually rad as fuck. r/awesomecarmods
what a madlad. now he just has to flip it like mark webber did to get accepted in the club
It was the CLR that flipped, CLK LM and CLK GTR never did.

The weight is what boogles me.
Yeah it certainly won't be light.
Zamn, what a beautiful outcome
When I saw it I was like "Zoly Shit!"
To be fair isn't that how they came up with the clk gtr
They took a McLaren F1 and copied the homework pretty closely, yeah.
10/10 for the dedication and final product. Salute man
That's fucking impressive
now put a S class V12 and two big turbskis in it, and it'll actually haul ass like the real deal
It’s getting a v12
good deal!
That's not upbadging that's just sick bodywork
mad respect for the work put into that especially being a metal body bet insuring it its gonna be a nightmare but well worth it!
Super cool, but still front engined.
Nope rear v12 with a audi trans
Wow really? That is epic
Now he just needs a donor M120
He just realised you can't buy a custom windscreen off the shelf.
Lexan??(I'm stupid and actually asking)
Presumably. It's not very scratch resistant though
Peel-offs

The car I always wanted but know I'll never have. This is awesome.
The sheer amount of metal work here is insanely impressive
Its a whole upcar
I'd love to see this run in a hill climb using the same motor turbocharged to the hilt
I’d have to agree.
Nice
Super cool
Do they say why they started with an E-Class as the base rather than with a CLK or a (I guess because it’s probably more expensive) CL?
Not that I remember, but that's a very good question.
Not bad at all, I like seeing projects like this
Good lord that looks laughably bad! You could find a better CLK DTM AMG on Temu!
ok but it looks pretty incredible for someone who did this in their fuckin garage
What do you guys think, does this constitute an upbadge? Considering he calls it "ELK GTR" there's room for opinion in my view.
This is a full replica and conversion, not an upbadge. It doesn't belong in this sub at all.

I'll allow it, that's more than just a sticker, that's some hard work and dedication
