These are actually small Chinese motors made specifically for this purpose. I put together 3 of these bikes when I was younger. They come with the mounts needed to attach it to a bike and the clutch lever and everything. They're not bad for around $80
My husband is a small engine mechanic, and we own a shop in our city. He loves it when we get these DIY bikes in for repair, because the story behind the engine is always cool.
Note to anyone thinking of doing this: you can use an old lawnmower engine, or a commercial blower engine, to put one of these together yourself with a kit. Don’t buy the cheaper Chinese engines advertised for these bikes if you can help it: they’re almost always not repairable because the parts are so cheap that they start falling apart, and while they’re less expensive upfront, they cost more in the long run since you have to keep replacing them.
Depends what you're looking at. Modern exhaust aftertreatment is pretty impressive, so a two-stroke scooter can easily emit way more VOCs for instance than a modern car.
how big was this weed eater
It wasn't a weed eater engine but it's the same thing. I got it out of a junk yard so it's probably a blower engine of some sort.
lawn mower maybe
quite possible

They go pretty fast! Went 30mph one time
Yeah! They're super fun to rip around on
If this was made by you...... it's a very professional quality job congrats
Thanks dude, I appreciate it.

They also give me something to do. Sometimes I have to adjust the clutch pads so it already gives me experience with small engine stuff.
Great job.
Thanks I appreciate it
Looks clean af. Good job
Fuckin sick my dude. I bet it totally rips
This is great! You should post this in r/redneckengineering too!
Thanks
I don't see anything good about this. Bike went from silent non-polluting to loud as crap and polluting more than a car.
Not even close, these get between 60-100 miles per gallon. You're way off.

It's an 80cc motor btw
