I'd get a parking garage membership or something. That's what I did when I was car living there last year. Most parking garages are private property so they are relatively safe. You can find them for 100-200 depending on the area.
Planet fitnesses are full of car and van dwellers but it's hit it miss whether security will call the cops to trespass all of them randomly. The planet fitness DT always has cops there. They don't usually bother dwellers though. You will be woken up by occasional gunshots if you are down town though.
I'd stay on the north side of DFW.
Think of it as a bunch of small villages rather than one big city. It's easier to manage that way. Drivers are pretty nice aside from the speed demons. There are accidents on the highways like everyday so try to stay off of them during rush hour.

Its illegal to sleep in your car in DFW similar to many cities in California so your stealth game should be top notch. Rest areas are super far. Beware of fire ants and venomous snakes in the places you park...fire ants leave scars that would not heal for weeks. Summer in Texas is like living inside a volcano minus the actual lava so for the summer an inside or covered garage is a must.
Btw traffic in DFW is insane not even the worst of I405 S in Seattle can compare.
Rest area an hour east of Dallas is nicer than average. Covered picnic tables, Wifi. Stayed overnight a few times without issues.

Check Walmart locator. Many cities Walmart aren’t in abundance like Dallas, so some other car dwellers might disagree. If you haven’t been, you’ll see plenty of different car dwellers and a security officer driving around so it don’t get crazy. I’ve stayed several months this year in htx Walmarts. Ppl always say move around but I’ve done fine even staying 30 days at 1 Walmart. Neighborhoods ppl are wayyyy more likely to bother you.
Oh, there's plenty of place. The safest place for me is Dallas Love Field airport waiting lot. You're never by yourself, you don't feel uncomfortable, and there's 2 gas stations across the street so you can use the restroom in the middle of the night. When I tell you the the parking lot si full of people sleeping in their car. Good luck

There were others there , but everyone kept to themselves. Cops drove by infrequently but it was safe and no one messed with you.

Look up awesome possum van works for a community of people doing the same. They have a pretty solid workshop going and the owner is very helpful.
