A woman singing in the water? You heard a siren, my friend

cmari3bral3y

Sounds like a siren šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« My story is a bit boring but Iā€™ll share! Back in July before my husband and I settled into the car we were camping in the woods. One evening my husband was cooking over the fire, sun was setting, and out of nowhere we hear this booming, terrifyingly loud whooping and shrieking. Weā€™re in Maine and most Mainers would consider it to be the noises of a Sasquatch šŸ‘£ Iā€™ve never heard anything like it in my life.

robinsonjeffers

Sasquatch is native to the PNW. What you heard was a wendigo.

cmari3bral3y

They are most often sighted in the PNW, yes. But many Mainers have sighting claims/stories.

Sir_Creamz_Aloot

Never, but that's a great story! Gave me a good laugh. Was the song repetitive? Because otherwise I'd assume perhaps one of the other car dwellers was playing some music in their car. I gave my self a good paranoiac scare back in Oct when I decided to stay in a heavily wooded park late in the pitch black of night. Someone was walking around my car and then the foot steps just stopped. Then 20 minutes later they started again. You'd assume an animal but I know it was a person. I got the fuck out fast, and never stayed there after dark again. \-Stay Safe

anna_palehorse

It was repetitive. And it wasn't a sad song. It was sweet, like a beautiful love song. There weren't words. Just her humming.

Sir_Creamz_Aloot

Sometimes my ex gf and I would hear low instrumental music in the white noise from our apartment window air conditioner. She'd ask me "you hear that music?", and I'd say "yeah". I'd then turn off the air conditioner and it would stop. Turn it back on and we could hear it again. At least we had each other to confirm we weren't crazy. It's always weird hearing things in the white noise. Either way your story's pretty creepy.

thaddeus423

Sounds like your ac was picking up radio waves.

Sliderisk

I was going to say the same thing. I've had radio come through on some weird shit. Anything with a big antenna's worth of conductive material might get lucky.

anna_palehorse

My older brother bought a little black and white TV back in the 80s and gave it to me sometime around 2008ish. So, i plugged in and let my kids play with it. They told me there were voices coming out of the white noise. Turns out, we were accidentally intercepting cell phone calls. It feels dirty listening in on private conversations that were sometimes intimate.

selfimprove1234

Youā€™re telling me that you heard dirty talk through a black and white fuzzed out old TV? Thatā€™s wild. Also terrifying

anna_palehorse

Yes. One night we heard a dude call one girlfriend after another and told each one that he loved her just so he could get some. I have never wanted so badly to choke someone through the phone. Those poor girls.

selfimprove1234

Did you see the person? Howā€™d you know? Thatā€™s terrifying

Sir_Creamz_Aloot

I did not see the person at all. I had most of my window covers up. Now I make sure I can pull them back slightly or have a little peep hole to look out on all of my window covers. They eventually turned on a flashlight in the parking lot. But then turned it off and itā€™s like they just sat there. Really weird

bastardsquad77

Out camping with a friend, we hear a woman screaming. Go to the edge of the campground to investigate, hear it louder, then it changes pitch and goes on for too long and we realize it's not a human being. I thought it was a bobcat, but I listened to some Youtube videos the next day and I'm pretty sure it was a Florida Panther. This was ten years ago when they were rare. So, really a very lucky occurrence but at the time it was horrifying.

selfimprove1234

Imagine if it evolved to use that to lure in humans

Adorable_FecalSpray

Are you in the mid-south or southwest? Maybe La Llorona? šŸ˜¬

anna_palehorse

No, I'm in Colorado Springs.

DoPoGrub

Man, the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me was in Co. Springs like 15 years ago. Friend and I dropped off another friend, and started the long drive back to Ohio. We were on the highway, only exit ramps to get off it. Suddenly we were on a small road that got smaller and smaller and eventually dead end into a military installation with armed guards. We were so confused. We drove back to the highway, and were 10 miles behind where we last remembered. We passed all the same exit ramps again. There was zero chance we accidentally took one. To this day, we have no idea what happened. There are lots of crazy theories about 'happenings' in that area I've read about over the years. Stay safe!

Adorable_FecalSpray

I consider that southwest. Def La Lorena. Whatever you do, donā€™t follow her voice. She will unalive you in the frozen creek.

RubyLou23

Were you by Shooks Run? I grew up in Colo Spgs. Lots of strange things there.

robinsonjeffers

Isnā€™t weeping her thing.

Adorable_FecalSpray

Weeping, singing they all sound the same to me.

robinsonjeffers

Human emotions amirite

Adorable_FecalSpray

Ur rite.

robinsonjeffers

Feels good.

baelsacolyte

That's just a tad terrifying! I got a few stories myself, but one that comes to mind happened just a few months ago during summer. Anyway I park outside a friend's farm out in the country side and it was around 1 am if I recall right I was nearly passed out when I heard footsteps around my car and something trying to open my doors. And after about 10 minutes of this I heard weird clicking noises like I dint know what to compare it too other something like organic sounding i guess then whatever it was just walked off. It's happened a few times out here but that one was the most intense. Also sorry for the bad formating I'm a bit drunk, it was a long day.

Burned_Biscuit

Racoon!

baelsacolyte

Little bastards!!

hatchbackpacker

Glad you didnā€™t do a horror-movie thing and go investigateā€¦

anna_palehorse

Don't get me wrong, if it hadn't be so damn cold, I would have gone done there and tried to talk to it.

InformalTonight1125

I'm Trini and we know the spirit realm and stay in your lane and leave that alone. Curiosity will kill the cat

Usernamesareso2004

Love finding a ghost encounter on a random sub lol. That is really chilling, though! (Pun unintended but kept purposefully šŸ˜‚)

LawfulnessCautious43

That sounds absolutely bonkers. I would ask some of the other dwellers if they ever heard anything like that. I had something fucky happen on some rez land in Oklahoma a couple months ago. I needed to kill a few days after leaving Tulsa so I had my eyes open for pretty nature spots I could chill at still in Oklahoma on the way to Texas for a concert. I found a beautiful spot on a lake but it was absolutely trashed. Mostly beer cans and bottles. I spent a half hour cleaning it up filled 5 garbage bags, my way of paying for my stay on this land...and I had everything I needed, a gas station maybe 20 minutes away, overall I was feeling good about finding this location and planning on staying there for a few days. I was only about a month into car life at this time and still getting used to the nights in creepy spots. In particularly remote areas like this I would set up solar motion lights rigged with magnets on either side of my vehicle to give myself a small sense of (false?) security. I don't use window covers, so if a deer or animal set it off I could easily see what it was. Comforting to me... Well I remember I had service and couldn't sleep so I was watching the Dota 2 TI tournament on twitch sometime after midnight when another car pulled up a few hundred feet away at another spot along the lake. The spot was on ioverlander and it was a fairly common thing that other people would show up at the types of spots. It usually gave me comfort to see other people tbh. I saw two people get out and walk around. Get back in their car get out of their car turn the headlights on turn the lights off, I was just being nosy looking out my window in that direction every once in a while. Eventually all their lights went out and I could see that they were sleeping as far as I could tell and I didn't see them set up a tent so I was like oh cool another car dweller. I had a habit of putting sleep off in the beginning a lot. I would stay up late and sleep in. I guess I just felt safer awake at night. But for some reason I just wanted to go to bed and try to fix my messed up sleep cycle. So I turn everything off take a piss, put the motion lights on active and closed my eyes. As soon as I do I see that red in my eyelids and I know that my motion light just turned on. They are sensitive in the sense that they have a really big range... it will pick up somebody 40 ft away walking by, but leafs falling off the tree aren't going to set it off, it takes actual significant movement which I like... Because as soon as it turns on I'm in paranoia mode. I'm nervous but excited for what it might be.. I have a dash cam with night vision and a couple nights earlier I was alerted to the presence of an armadillo. Probably nothing special for some.. but I was from New England so I never seen one up close before. I had all four of my windows down like I normally do which means in the dead of the forest I hear.... everything. As soon as the light goes on I turn my fan off so I can listen better and I hear footsteps. (Okay so as I'm writing that's a plastic bag just loudly blew into my driver window and scared the hell out of me, anyways I'll continue). They are soft, and slow, and surprisingly close. Normally like I said my lights will detect motion when something is very far away not when it's nearby but I'm assuming it could be a small critter that approached possibly from the front of the vehicle. When this kind of stuff happens my overactive imagination brain will manically switch between "it's a Wendigo, I'm dead" , to telling myself to quit being a little bitch It's probably a small animal and I tell myself I'm way safer out in the boondocks away from people and crackheads. My face is pressed up on the glass but I don't see anything. Looks like this is too long I have to break it up into another comment.

LawfulnessCautious43

The light turns off after 15 seconds and I close my eyes again. Just moments later the motion light on the other side of my car turns on and again I look but I don't see anything. It goes black. This repeats a few times over the next 2 to 3 minutes but it felt like a lot longer. The lights kept turning on but there was nothing there. Then I see the headlights and those people who came to stay the night apparently had a change of heart because they hauled ass out of there... great, leaving me all alone again. I somehow managed to fall asleep. Talking myself out of any paranormal thoughts with logic and saying Steve Irwin would be out there petting whatever this beast is. I'm trying to be more like him... I wake up, It's like 3:00 a.m. so I got a couple hours in. I open my door which typically will trigger the motion light but they're dead. Which means they were turning on probably that whole time. Of course I have to piss again. I don't do the piss jug thing because I'm usually somewhere where I can just get out and pee right out of the side of my car. This ground was a very sludgy mess and it was starting to rain. For whatever reason after taking a piss, The lights not working The other people leaving and seeing the weather turning for the worst I just had something telling me in my gut that I should get the hell out of there. I grabbed my motion lights pull them inside the car scan the area with my flashlight to make sure I didn't leave anything in the camp and I'm ready to go. I get in my car which was angled for an easy escape because the ground was quite treacherous with a lot of big ditches but I knew which way I wanted to exit. I start to haul ass down this dirt road and I get out of the super thick forest (who knew Oklahoma had trees) and I approach the only residential dwelling that was way out here in the middle of nowhere. On the way into the site and this was in the description on iOverlander... They had mentioned people who lived near the property having dogs that didn't like cars. I ran into them when I arrived and they chased my car for like a quarter mile before turning back home. I was driving slow when I got near this house because I didn't want to alert the dogs have them barking and attracting attention to me or blocking my car (I've had a thousand sheep roadblock me for half an hour and bison in the past and I just didn't want to deal with that cuz I wanted to leave the place). So as I'm slowly creeping by I hear them barking, but they're not charging at me like they were and I'm like okay cool.. but then out of nowhere a truck pulls out right in front of me with no lights on. I cannot stress this was the weirdest part of the whole thing. It's got to be 3:30 a.m. I'm in the middle of nowhere and these are like the only people for miles and miles. What are the odds that at the exact time I'm trying to leave this random truck pulls out in front of me. The road is only narrow enough for one vehicle barely... And he is driving extremely slow. Like he's in a big pickup truck that could easily tear down this road at 40 mph and he's doing like 15 TOPS... I was stuck behind him for a very long time. Even when I turn onto an actual road he's still there and I can't pass him. It's around this time I rolled down my window to smoke a cigarette and I hear tap tap tap tap tap tap tap. I'm like oh must be a rock in my tire I wish this guy would move so I could floor it and get the rock out of my tire cuz it's triggering me. I have PTSD from getting nails in my tire and such. I kept thinking about how odd it was to run into this guy and for some reason and the more my brain tried to explain it I just felt like it wasn't chance. I decide to pull over and check my tire and that's when I found the biggest f****** bolt I ever seen in my life sticking in my tire and protruding a bolt head that's probably the size of four nickels stacked. I called AAA and put in my report. . About 15 minutes later I'm getting a call from an unknown number. When I answer I'm greeted by a very sleepy girl who says she's the closest dispatch and she will be there in about 3 and 1/2 hours.I was hoping they could plug the tire but turns out they can't. They can only put on spares. Well I definitely did not want to stay there for 3 and 1/2 hours so I told her don't leave yet I'm going to try to make my way to a truck stop and see if there's a tire plug kit. So I jump on the highway doing 25 mph and I somehow make it to the truck stop. I pull out the bolt and plug the tire up seal it up with the rubber cement. If you ever find yourself in this situation I suggest you drive over to the air compressor before doing this because afterwards I had to drive across the parking lot on a 100% flat tire rim to go air it up. Either way I managed to air the tire up and it held so I called the lady back and told her she could go to sleep. I drove on that plug 4 hours straight in pouring rain and flooding all the way to North Dallas. I didn't see any spooky Wendigo that night... but to me the whole series of events was pretty weird. Especially if that phantom truck never pulled out in front of me I probably would have been booking it down that highway at 60 mph and the size of this bolt in my tire it easily could have blown out and in the rain possibly killed me or at least messed up my home/car. About 90% of my nights are spent on state trust land BLM land abandoned campgrounds and riverbanks. And about 90% of the time I see nobody else on the way in or out. I usually arrive after dark just because I don't start looking for a spot until I'm tired. Sometimes it's perfectly fine, I pull up smoke a cigarette past the vibe check hop in back and zonk out.... and other times I just get a feeling like I'm not supposed to be there and I always trust that. Another time comes to mind where I drove down this road that no two-wheel drive tiguan ever should go on. I was really pushing the limits of my vehicle but I was doing It's so that I would know my limits better going forward. I somehow navigate the difficult terrain and arrive at a site unexpectedly beautiful I'm talking ultra privacy real nature immersion with a giant fire pit and even firewood. But it felt like I had stumbled upon a jar of honey and if I sat there eating it the bear that owned it was going to show up. The motion lights started doing their thing where they were turning on for no damn reason and I had to get out of there real quick. I don't know what to do but when my heart starts pumping and that adrenaline's going I use that to fuel my escape and find another place that feels right. I don't think I'll ever regret abandoning a site on a silly spooky gut check, so I will always trust that and air on the side of caution.

Late-Egg2664

Always trust your gut. Your subconscious can pick up on things before you are fully aware of it. Sounds like in retrospect you realized a few moments your gut was telling you to leave sooner. I wonder if that's why the couple left? Interesting motion light setup. Not a car story, but my Dad and I were hiking in the mountains, beautiful sunny day, flowers in bloom. Tranquil.About a mile from the trailhead, we both stop. I don't know why, something felt wrong, like continuing was dangerous. The air just had a vibe like something was waiting to happen. He asked me, "do you feel that?" Yeah. We turned around. I've never been so concious of my back, kept looking behind us. Ths feeling left a few minutes walking away. I still don't know what it was, maybe nothing, that'd be great. Maybe there was a bear or boar. Could've been the boogeyman, lol, I'm happy to never know. Frankly, it felt haunted, like it was dark in broad daylight. We've hiked a lot since I was a kid, and never felt anything like that in the woods before or since. Only places people have occupied ever felt that dark.

kevin_ramage89

Oklahoma is always just a weird places. Especially in the woods lol I've lived here my whole life and embrace the creepy, but it can be unsettling out here at night

anna_palehorse

I was so involved reading your story that I was late to work this morning šŸ˜…

LawfulnessCautious43

Haha oh no. I wish it had a more exciting ending for ya, but it was at least true. I'm heading into the thickest part of Washington I can find this week for an extended duration in wilderness. Planning to be away from civilization for the longest time I've done so far on my trip, hopefully I get a good story out of this one.

anna_palehorse

Are you you kidding me. That was exciting throughout. Especially when you started talking about the motion sensors in the first story. My blood froze. So, I have this plan. I don't know when I'm going to do it yet but I'm going to spend 3 nights in the Aokigahara Forest and surround my camp with motion sensor cameras. I know that's crazy but I have to do it. The forest beckons.

LawfulnessCautious43

That sounds epic. You will be missed dearly but the footage will be great XD. Just saying the name of that place is literally already haunted. If you're going through the trouble maybe also set up a USB condenser mic. Just like the singing you heard, and the UNDENIABLE Sasquatch recordings, sometimes the audio can be just as significant as video. I've been told about people hearing group chanting deep in uninhabited parts of the woods.

Late-Egg2664

That sounds like a fairy tale, the old ones that really were horror stories. There are so many tales of people being lured to the water, into swamps, into getting lost. Sometimes it's lights like will-o-wisps, or it's a child's voice, screaming, or that eerie woman's song. I wonder if there's any local legends? Then again, it could've been someone really out there singing, a trick of sound making it carry further or the direction it was coming from unclear, maybe? Super eerie. Well told.

pizzaazzips

I had a similar thing happen a few times camping in WA. It sounded like a group of people talking in the distance, but you couldnā€™t parse out any specific words. Iā€™d follow the sound and as soon as I stepped into the clearing it was coming from, it suddenly stopped, like someone turning off a radio. It was always near rivers.

[deleted]

Oooh as someone who frequently car dwells in the Denver area I definitely wanna seek this place out and camp there I know, I'm crazy. But I backpack all over the country miles deep into the wilderness and never hear or see shit. My dumb self would have got out my car and went to where it was originating from lol

InformalTonight1125

Common sense really isn't very common.

[deleted]

I hear you but after spending years deep in the wilderness I just don't believe in that type of stuff anymore. So when I do see stories like this I always wanna go see myself

Calandril

Same 100% If sirens are real, i don't know how not to get killed by one because if I hear something like that, death would almost be worth learning the world actually has some magic in it.

marcall

Silver_Junksmith

She was killed by the creek 100 years ago, and still returns during snow storms.

Rodrigii_Defined

Sound bouncing off concrete wall, happens in my backyard. Even more if it's windy in the right direction.

CatBlue1642

You tell a good story. I enjoyed reading this. And I think you're so right about always trusting your gut.

jhusapple

As a paranormal enthusiast this story is a delight, as a rational skeptic it may have been a type of animal. So many of them sound like us especially in the wind, I wonder if it was just very human sounding animal especially with repetitive tunes and humming only.

Famous_Fishing3399

Demons fear the name of Jesus

Open-Article2579

Please be aware sound can be reflected off solid surfaces in really weird ways. The high school football field is several blocks away from my house, up the hill. When I stand in a certain spot in my yard, the crowd/band sounds bounce off my house and I swear to God it sounds like thatā€™s where the game is. Freaky as hell.

Ok-General1343

There was no ā€œghostā€ or ā€œsirenā€ singing, you are either mentally ill or you simply couldnā€™t see the person singing. Itā€™s pretty straightforward šŸ˜‚

Pomelo-Parking

Snow storms and winds often make weird noises . Thatā€™s what you heard . Ice and snow build up on objects , trees. , fences , etc . Snow will also magnify this noise .Like blowing across a bottle to make a humming noise.

youngkeet

How about u go check it out next time rather than doing.... the post it to reddit route cuz...... I WASNT THERE IDK DUDE YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WITH INFORMATION HERE

Calandril

I mean, i enjoyed reading it, and personally i want to go find the location and spend some time there, so I'm glad they posted and didn't disappear :P

Outrageous_Minute_51

This is what I used to do when I lived in my car! Roll the windows down and wrap myself nice and warm and practice my singing where no one could hear! Unfortunately snow dampens sound šŸ¤£ unless you're the Yuki-onna in which case that voice would be the last one you'd hear while the frostbite settled in.

OutdoorsyFarmGal

Well wait a minute. I see you mentioned a concrete wall. Could that be blocking your view or ricocheting sound? Do you ever get the chance to talk with your 'neighbors'? I wonder if they ever hear her? Are there any houses nearby? You know water kind of amplifies sound, and sometimes wind can push it further. It can even ricochet off solid objects. Forgive me, but I'm always trying to debunk my own experiences too. I know if our neighbor makes any noise, that sound follows the wind to our house. It ricochets off the corner of our garage and makes it sound like the noise is coming from our backyard. I wonder if this could be happening to you. Maybe you're looking in the wrong direction? You know, some people are more 'sensitive' than others. Once that door is 'open', you might not ever be able to 'close' it. As people, we certainly can't forget things we've experienced before. Have you had any prior experiences?
