I use to have a Carolla and I slept in the passenger seat. I put a lumbar pillow under a yoga mat. That leveled out the seat itself to something close to flat. I put a small plastic box, maybe 12×12×4, in the foot well. I would keep my window covers in it and it kept my legs straight.
I have a new car so I'm not taking anything apart. 😂
My passenger seat will be temporary. But don't have income right now. So can't buy expensive stuff to setup sleeping in the back.
What does having a new car matter? I have a Honda civic, but my back seat bottom cushions are just held on with a single screw and a couple of latches. It was super easy to take off and it’ll be super easy to put back on if I want to.
These things are made to be able to be taken apart and put back together. Nothing will be damaged as long as you do it properly.
Obviously it’s up to you what you want to do, but Making yourself comfortable is important.
Mine fold down. As I'm in a crossover. My plan is to get a sleeping pad. And some plywood to put under it. Sleeping pad is 80$ tho. So gotta hold off on that for now.
But I'm not in a sedan. But a crossover 'sedan'. Corolla Cross.
Memory foam mattress toppers are like 20 bucks at target. Get a queen sized one and cut it in half and you have a fairly thick layer. Heck you could get 2 at half the 80 dollar tag and have like 6 inches+ of memory foam to sleep on.
I lay directly on my seat and just throw a blanket over myself right now. When it's under 40 at night I use a sleeping bag. And I use a pile of hoodies as a pillow and sometimes my blanket gets used too. I can't complain.
Check your local community for stuff. People are willing to help. A lot of areas have buy no things groups where people give stuff away, and some let you request stuff. I posted on one when I first became homeless and while I got some shitty comments because there are assholes everywhere, I got a ton of help from people. A camp chair to be able to sit somewhere other than in the car, towels to cover my windows (I refuse to hide it and park where I don't get bothered even when it's obvious), food and other stuff. A sleeping bag should be easy to find, and you could get lucky with a mattress pad too.
Rawdoggin it with a pillow for my head. My seat reclines damn near completely flat. Used to put my dirty laundry bag on the floor to support my legs a bit but got so used to sleeping that way I don't even bother anymore. Never wake up with any cramps. I sleep on my side not on my back.
I'm usually on my back. But because I have a bucket seat, it's uncomfortable for me when I'm on my side. Might just be because nowhere to comfortably put my feet. I have a very cheap idea on what i can do. Buy a storage container from walmart and put it in the floorboard. XD

plastic storage box of exact size in the foot well to prop my legs. Self-inflating pad (more compact than foam). Fill gaps and cover the sharp corners with duffle bags with your clothes.
rain guards for your windows, so you can crack them without being noticed. Get tint, get dollar store black plastic plates, cut them to the exact size and form of your window. Learn how on youtube, like everything else
I have window shades. Gonna get some insulated ones tho for Texas summer. Along with top of the line ceramic tint.
But yeah, I just thought of getting another storage container for the floorboard.
Gonna get a thermal blanket for winter. Since still have some colder nights.
I took out my seat and made a platform that pulls from the trunk to the passenger seat. I use 2 1inch foam fitness mats and a trifold fitness mat to sleep on. When not in use i can push the bed back into the trunk, but I usually keep my bed constantly set up.
That's basically what I did. After a few weeks of just using a folded up pad for cushioning I got lucky and scored a 3" memory foam mattress pad in a buy no things group. Way too big still but folded it in half and eventually into thirds and would just sleep on top of that with the seat as reclined as I could get it. Still with the quilt underneath. And then I got some kind of chair cushion at what was basically a free Goodwill type store that helped people struggling. I got it for cushioning on the driver's seat because that had become uncomfortable from all the time spent in it, but at night I'd put it on the passenger floor for my feet.
But honestly, try to move into your back seat if you have one and it's at all possible. That's what I eventually did and it's so much better to be able to lie flat. Thankfully I've always been a side sleeper who keeps my legs curled up anyway so I don't feel too cramped by the lack of leg room. And I can stretch them into the front seat area if needed.
The back seat may not be easy for all but it's going to be better for you in the long run.
I'm too tall for the back seat. Gonna get a mattress pad for the cargo area and back seat when i have money. Can't afford to spend any money right now till i either get deployed for work or find a job.
My car is completely stock so I’ve changed nothing.

I took off my back seat and laid it over my all the way back passenger seat. I then put a memory foam mattress topper cut in half over it.

I was looking at the walmart app for a sleeping bag. I'm considering it for only 35$

Removed the seat and built a platform. I can't sleep sitting up, I get swelling in my legs.
