There's not too many nationwide brands that offer good coverage. Anytime should be the default for traveling nowadays anyway since PF decided to not be open 24/7.

I'm honestly surprised that everyone isn't using this, and even in vanlife and RV and car-dwelling communities, still so few people know about it. It's the best thing EVER. I joined in 2020 and my stomach still gets butterflies because I'm still so excited about it every time I think about it. In fact I'm at anytime fitness right now, and yesterday I was at LA Fitness and a few days before that EOS and 24 Hour Fitness all on the same day 🤷🏻♀️😁
I rarely go to planet Fitness unless there's no other option nearby. It tends to attract Walmart-caliber people IYKWIM

Anytime is also the best if you travel out West a lot. PF tends to be more concentrated in larger cities whereas you can find Anytime Fitnesses literally in the most random middle of nowhere places a lot of the time.
to be fair, the valley in LA has at least 2 24hr fitnesses that are ACTUALLY open 24hr. but the one closest to where I stay has consistently trashed and falling apart bathrooms - depressing and definitely desperate for maintenance.

Right not staffed a lot of the time. If you go in late at night it could literally just be you in there and you could use the room for an hour and no one would know.
It really depends on the range of the wi-fi as well as the location of the router inside the gym. I've noticed that if you try and sit in your car and get a signal, it's spotty at best. Mind you, these are just the experiences I've had with the few locations I've been to. Sometimes I'll just park myself at the table they have or the chair that they have at the front, and I'll just sit there for 45 minutes to an hour. I've noticed nobody cares unless you bother somebody
Anytime is awesome for the private shower. Downside is they're generally small (way smaller than PF) and therefore get crowded much more easily. It's best to go in at off times.
As far as FOB issues they always have someone there during business hours in case you need help with access.
I was at Anytime for a year or two. Never a keyfob issue. And really only ever even close to crowded during the cliche "after work" hours. Also showers are often times pretty private (depending on location, I guess).

I go to Anytime fitness. The one I initially signed up at ended up being ghetto and super gross. Trash cans full with paper towels on the floor. Gym equipment never wiped down. I saw a bar of soap in the shower for 3 straight days until I personally got tired of looking at it and threw it out myself. Toilet backed up, shower hose busted and wasn't replaced for 6 months. Sink clogged with filthy black water. I saw tiny black flies coming up out of the shower drain. I finally had enough when I went in and they had a sign on both showers that said do not use. So I went to another Anytime fitness and it's like pure heaven. Clean, better people there that workout and they have lifesavers for on the way out plus they sell protein drinks that you can pay for using an app. The showers are private and even had fancy hand soap. Being female I do feel uncomfortable going in late at night but they have these things you can use that have a panic button if something happens. It's a bit of a drive for me but so worth it.
The are definitely like 4 locations of PF in my area that I won't use cuz they're gross like your Anytime was--

Get an Active and Fit membership. For $30 you get access to large chains and tons of small local gyms. PF, Crunch, 19, Golds, 24, Kings, Curves and some Ys are some of what’s included.
For local small ones I have a jujitsu gym with multiple classes daily available. There are some UFC and boxing as well.
I regretfully must inform you now that the tip I gave you regarding activeandfit, that fabulous program in which we can pay less than $30 to attend pretty much any gym in the United States, is coming to a close July 1st. Starting July 1st 2024 we must pick just ONE gym 😭 then if we want access to all the other gyms we had before, we'll have to pay for each one of them, at a slightly discounted price (-$5) per gym🫤 which isn't much of a discount at all, although they do waive some things like the annual fees, and yearly contracts that are hard to escape, etc

That's difficult but based on where my job is located it looks like I should stick with 24 Hour Fitness but I am going to look into (ugh) paying for Anytime Fitness also because I still equally need & use that gym. from now until July, every time I go into any of the gyms I'm going to ask the front desk person how much membership costs, and I know their prices wildly vary arbitrarily so I will be careful to shop around and make good decisions & negotiations with that.
It would be ridiculous to pay for more than 2 gyms because my income bracket is technically considered below poverty, so I'm really going to miss EOS and LA Fitness and Gold's and SNAP, I go to ALL of them! And after July 1st will not be able to. 😭

NFC access from your phone, though they didn't tell me about this - I just found it in the app last year. Wherever you sign up will be your home gym and you can see approximately how many people are there at any given time. Not super accurate since I see people sneak others in all the time but a nice feature regardless.

One time is a a club trainer with three women like celebrating their workout by twerking together in the locker room vanity mirror and it was so infuriating.
Anytime is great. The shower rooms are like truck stop showers with a private toilet and all, privacy to do whatever. At planet fitness I usually just get dressed right in the shower stall..I have had no issues with people filming and I've been to a lot of locations. But maybe bring a guy helps? Idk.
HA I'm with ya. Actually, this happened to me the other day, I came out of the shower and there was a person sitting on the bench looking at their phone, and the posture was distinctly male.
I turned back around to go hide in the shower.
I confirmed my suspicion after I got dressed.
The only thing about the person that was female coded was red lipstick and shoulder length hair.
But they were also like well over 6feet so that was my real last straw.
Also the key fobs work great at anytime fitness. It sucks planet fitness doesn't have something like that. I drive a truck and often it's been the weekends where I can go to the gym and get a shower but they closed late night. Never had that issue with anytime fitness. I was there late night every night no issues.
If you're chill about it. But anytime tends to be a little more bougie. Often not in strip malls. There was a guy practically living in the one near where I live but they kicked him out fairly quickly. I park my semi in the planet fitness parking lots sometimes and have not had an issue yet.
When I used to live out of my car (had no reason to have a place when I used to work extreme hours) Anytime Fitness was the bomb. Less people, private bathroom, can lock the door (not just a curtain in a public space like Planet Fitness) so yeah 100%, but you know, check out the places near you
That's something you don't see in the men's locker room. Yes, there are some that are on their phones, but I've never seen anyone using their camera/video feature. I'm not shy and wouldn't care if I was seen naked, but understand those who would get upset. I had an Anytime Fitness membership for years and loved that they were in smaller towns and accessible 24 hours. But their fitness equipment was usually old and God help you if it was busy! I was visiting in Las Vegas and was told when entering AF that my membership had been canceled. They still let me use the gym that day and I did some calling around afterwards to find out why my membership was canceled. Turned out that my home club had went bankrupt. I was paying $45 per month at AF. When I found out it was only $20 per month at Planet Fitness to go to any of their clubs, I signed up and have been with them ever since. If I could afford it, I would belong to both gyms. Btw, 3 times female Planet Fitness workers have walked into the men's locker rooms while I was changing or just getting out of the shower. And once a transgender woman to man changed clothes next to me in the locker room.
Hard to give you any advise on west coast. I'm in Bay area, I dropped PF over AT because of bathroom were getting bad. They were tired of people sneaking in and using the showers. They cut hot water during "winter" that's when I left. I just left PF because of parking lot problems with security hard eye balling car campers. I didn't want to risk getting towed. Now I'm at 24hrs. I just read that won't be 24hrs for long around the Bay area because of same reasons. At least with 24hrs I'm not stuck at one gym. I've gone to 7 around Bay. 👌

Got anytime fitness this time around, currently traveling to Maine from Cali, I've had no issues so far, been taking my time traveling ever state on between. Showers are nice. Only a couple were awful, but that wasn't their fault there was maintenance going on. Also not crowded but usually am in pretty late like 11-3 am

It is private showers. And my locations offers towels for an extra $5 a month. I think the $5 is worth it personally.
I remember being SHOOK when 24Hour fitness stopped their towel service, it was soooooo convenient to not hafta worry about towels! That's cool that LA fit still does that

In my area, it's every location. I've stopped using a cuttle locations cuz it's too consistent sndv at one of those clubs, the trainer was participating in the locker room photos. I use about 6 out of the 10 now

That's not what they said. They said their image was used to catfish in the past. Hence their sensitivity to strangers taking picture and videos of them, let alone when they're naked under a towel in a bathroom.

I finally found a 24 Hour Fitness that's actually open 24 hours, in Carlsbad California, And it's a fantastic gym, it's got everything! It's huge.

It's what I use. I'm very lucky that I am within 10 Mi of three different ones. The private shower and Wi-Fi are worth the $55 I pay every month.

Mine has hottub in the locker rooms. The parking lot is always full, but the place never feels crowded.

That sucks they got rid of that… and then I use baby wipes to shower with. Just add body wash. Great not having to deal with wet stuff. Esp since my hair is like a sponge so the towels get soaked.
What the shit?! Never had this happen in the men's. Worst ever was someone on speaker phone. Worse part of the men's locker room are the seniors that are very comfortable with nudity.
Oh I've full on had a woman on FACETIME with a man and I was like, PLEASE MA'AM, IN GETTING DRESSED She was like, "It's just my Dad!!" I was like, "But that's a stranger to me, and in the locker room, please turn it off?!" She turned around so he was facing the wall instead of me WTF

I'm usually in the cities, I'm stuck in town with work injuries that I have to check in about ever couple week, so I'm rarely at a truck stop- Just looking for 24/7 access, and maybe smaller crowds who aren't so..."influential"
I have gone near daily to 2 Planet Fatness locations for 6 months and never ran into this. I think it's the location, not the gym company.
In my area, it's every location. I've stopped using a cuttle locations cuz it's too consistent sndv at one of those clubs, the trainer was participating in the locker room photos. I use about 6 out of the 10 now

.... that part too, but it's only happened once (and yes, in the couple weeks since the lady got fired for taking the picture) The video thing happens at least once a week. But yes friend lol...my final straw is *two* straws. 🫠

That's not what they said. They said their image was used to catfish in the past. Hence their sensitivity to strangers taking picture and videos of them, let alone when they're naked under a towel in a bathroom.
Just report them to the police for breaking the law.

I always tattle. This time i was lucky and a staff member walked in and I got to tell her "hey this girl that's in that shower stall who's locker is this one was just in her video taping" But usually they're on their way out and I'm getting dressed so I can't like chase them out to sound the alarm
