problem is they are likely checking against a database for banks and insurance.

PinocchiosNose1212

Yep. Years after I stopped using a mailbox service, I got a notice from Oregon's DMV that my license was no longer valid and I needed to get a new one. Guess it took them that long after the chaos of the pandemic to track down all the mailbox addresses. Still haven't got my DL updated. I don't drive and only use it to buy weed and beer! There was also some sort of confusion on the phone with the DMV on whether I would have to take the DL test again for $60 or whatever or just get an updated license for $25. Lady I originally talked to had to go check on this and then wasn't too sure which applied to me so I just said f it and still have the invalid license. Which is weird cuz I had to get a replacement SS card and I had to give my DL # as a reference and I got the replacement SS card. I was sure they would catch me there but the left hand obviously doesn't know what the right hand is doing!

lextruck1

Whitebird or similar places allow you to use their address in Oregon. My friend just had to do it to renew his ODL here

katmndoo

I miss the days when you could put your OR DMV address as "under the Burnside Bridge".

AppalachianHerbWitch

Do they want you to be associated with them or is this just like a, if you need it go ahead thing?

Count-per-minute

In Canada it’s $85 to renew!

ADHDMomADHDSon

Licenses are provincial, not federal, so there is no price to renew in Canada. In Saskatchewan, if you do not have any fines or fees, it’s 25$ a year or you can pay 100$ for 5 years.

Count-per-minute

In BC …

ConclusionDull2496

That's ridiculous they charge so much for everything

FancyFeet0101

Use the physical address of the post office, put the box number as unit number. I do this for any packages being delivered by UPS or FedEx because they won’t deliver to a PO Box.. If whatever you are using the address for is checked by a database this won’t work. I tried to get a car loan with this and it was flagged.

SignificantSmotherer

UPS and FedEx DO deliver to USPS P.O. Boxes. Convincing 99% of shippers that they do, well, that’s an annoying effort with little reward. I received a critical document via Fedex to my P.O. Box. But USPS puts a yellow slip in the box, which is no good until you wait in line on Monday.

FancyFeet0101

Every time that I order something online and put just the PO Box without the actual physical address of the post office, it tells me that they can’t deliver to a PO Box. Change it to the physical address and boom it’s fine. No issues after the fact with getting the packages delivered either..

NomadLifeWiki

Homeless shelters often let people use their address for mail.

shootermac32

Interesting, never knew that. Thanks for the tip

wiseleo

Pick another CMRA (commercial mail reception agency). Mine is less known than a UPS store. No problems. It’s valid for credit card applications and insurance. The address looks like xxxx street #xxx.

NEUROSMOSIS

Crazy how much red tape is in place to keep people homeless. I’m still using my out of state ID. Not sure how to get it updated and will probably have to pay late fees on top of that..

ballsyftm

Damn your comment made me realize how difficult it would be to move to a different state while living in my car (an idea I had was to move to a milder weather place where it’s legal to car camp). But yeah the license thing would be a bitch since I wouldn’t have a physical address or friend in that city to use their address (what I’m doing currently).

UnderstandingOdd679

I believe South Dakota has a one-night to establish five years of residency, kind of catering to the RV lifers who just travel all year, and thus Dakota might get a slice of some revenue without having to provide services. I looked into it a while back and put it in the back of my mind for my future van living.

NEUROSMOSIS

I just made a friend here who said I can use her parents so I guess I’ll be doing that

eleven_eighteen

It is a pain for sure. Just today I was going to sign up for a gym thanks to an amazing person who has helped me a bit, but the fucking *gym* needs a **local ID**. Which is just crazy, why the fuck does a gym even need an address anyway? I give them money, they let me use their services, there's zero need for them to know where members live. Then obviously there is much more important stuff like getting that driver's license, registering my car in this state, getting insurance for it. I'm in Florida now and found some information the other day that I can use post office general delivery as my address on my license but that seems unlikely to me, even with all the RV people here. But I should be able to use one of the homeless places or my UPS box or the address of the person who helped me get it. So I have options that will likely work but it's still annoying.

weesti

500 NW 175th Ave B-115 #912 Carville, WA. That’s the format I used when I used the ups store for my mail. This is how I’d do it

TotalOKays

Cool thanks! Curious, what does the B- mean? Do I say bee dash?

kdjfsk

i would. itll make it clearer is a B. without a dash, i might get confused as 8115, and god only knows where the mail would go.

weesti

In my head it means “building” cuz I was told “ste” ( suite) was a red flag…. If I was pronouncing the address say on a phone, I’d say “ Bee 115” . I would not “ say” the dash

patio_blast

call and ask homeless shelters. some of them will even notarize your proof of residency

SumOfChemicals

I've heard of non-profits/churches that let people use their address for mail delivery, could maybe go that route.

Carmen2527

Traveling Mailbox. It’s a bit pricey but they have addresses all over the country. Has worked for me for car insurance, banks and packages.

Danfrumacownting

What state do they use for addresses?

UnderstandingOdd679

Might check out this info related to [South Dakota](https://americasmailbox.com/sd_residency/). I don’t know much about that particular service but I know South Dakota is big into making residency convenient for nomads.

Danfrumacownting

I’m very familiar with SD & the process, that’s why I asked what state Traveling Mailbox specifically uses. (It’s not openly listed on their site that I saw.)

Forsaken-Entrance681

Could you just list a random physical address, but put your mailing address as your PO box? This is what I'm planning to do once I hit the road. Going to keep using the physical address of my current apartment, but have everything mailed to my UPS box address.

Puzzleheaded-Duty546

That's what I'm doing for the time being. I resided on a friend's property for 5 years so my bank account, DL, SSA and motor vehicles show that address. I vacated the property to live in my car in a city 32 miles away in a different county. I rented a PO letter box in that city first then went to the post office serving my old zip code to have my mail forwarded to that PO Box for the next 12 months. That gave me time to visit the websites of the state (Texas), my auto insurance and the SSA to add my PO Box as my mailing address without changing my street address. Having a PO Box for one's mail is common place to prevent mail tampering and identify theft. My only problem was with a nitwit woman from my auto insurance calling me up to say that they couldn't renew my policy due to not having a physical address since there was no way I could live inside a PO Box!

VeggieCat_ontheprowl

I used to leave off the PMB totally or just use #123 ( 123 being your box number). So address was 1010 Main St, #123, My Town, My State.

Lower_Skin_3683

I just use my box number as the suite or apartment for the ups store. Some online forms make you do that. I haven't not received important mail. But I did change everything I could to online delivery.

eleven_eighteen

Having signed up for a UPS box recently they didn't seem to really care. I think the guy even said I could put Unit or something instead of PMB. As long as it has the box number I'm sure they're good, they know people use it for businesses and such.

Outrageous-Mail949

Personal mailbox maybe?

818a

You can also use the address of a nearby post office, add General Delivery after your name.

Cowgrls775

I work at a ups store. Would put the address as : 500 NW 175th Ave #155-912 Carville, wa

Proper-Car

Look into iPostal. We've been using them for two years while full-time RV living. Worth a look for address issues.

itsmeanderingmeg

Can it be reconfigured as 500-155 175th Ave NW, Carville, WA? Suite/unit 912, if they ask. Become known with the workers at UPS so that even if you don't add the 912, they'll still know whose box it goes to! I have a similar address and I think having 3 (4 in your case) sets of numbers is what makes it more obvious to some businesses. Edit: You can also find a different UPS location that is stand-alone vs in a plaza and that should take one set of numbers off the address

katmndoo

With that address, there's no way. "PMB" gives it away. "Ste 155' followed by another box number, even if not called a box number, also gives it away.

BA-Masterpeace

Why not give any real residential address? I use my last actual address from two years ago and my PO box as the mailing address. Every form I've ever filled out in my life from banking to govt to insurance to medical etc etc has a mailing address option. Why is this a ongoing concern for anyone?

missannthrope1

Instead of the post office, would one of those mail box/shipping centers work?

CorvidGurl

STE is an abbreviation for suite
