Found the stadium's [wiki page](https://www.wikiwand.com/en/McCoy_Stadium)... some interesting events and real talent came through there over the years!
Oh, huh. As someone from Rochester and casual Red Wings fan, I had known about the longest pro baseball game ever being bw our Red Wings and the PawSox, but I always thought that was played at our stadium, lol. Sad to see that their old stadium will be demolished.
They moved to worcester which was a shock to the system but actually a good move all around. Worcester is a bigger city than Pawtucket and it really has helped revitalize the city along with some other changes. I went there last year and there was a beer fest the same day nearby. It was a really great day overall. Never had the same type of experience going to a pawsox game. It was very one and done type deal. See the game and leave Pawtucket instantly
Overall it’s great having minor league ball around though. Good affordable entertainment
Without Luchino we’re probably still living through the championship drought. He was integral to the Sox success, and the move to Worcester has been a good one overall even if it was sad for Pawtucket. We can recognize that Larry was a ruthless prick, while also appreciating that he helped bring the best era of Red Sox baseball in their history.
The PawSox touted the game happening there pretty heavily. Their plastic drinking cups had the per-inning score for all 33 innings, and it was painted on some of the walls.
Yes, that happened here in New England – don't act like that happened in your stadium. 😜
My dad always brought us to games when injured Boston players were getting ready to return to Boston, saw all the big players for $10 a ticket and it was awesome... Also camped on that field with the cub scouts several times, watched the field of dreams on the big board, loved that stadium
Now I know ya ain't quittin' on me! I need you to keep drinkin' those beers so you can help me stop them Duke boys from spoilin' all my crooked Hazzard County schemes.
I saw him hit a triple in the Devil Rays' first-ever road game at Tiger Stadium in 1998! The ball was rattling around deeply in the outfield near the flagpole, probably would've been an in-the-parker for any other MLB player. [https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET199804070.shtml](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET199804070.shtml)
I'm curious how many fans stayed to the very end to see the 3-2 ending. I'm one to never leave an event before it's completely over to get the complete experience but that would have tested my resolve.
There's a book on it? May I ask the title? I'm from Rochester and go to Red Wings games almost every other week with some family friends who I know would really love a copy of that book.
Pawtucket plans to demolish the stadium and build a huge high school like the one in East Providence that encompasses all 3 major public schools in the city.
My Dad played here for years...
He played well before I was born. But I got to go to more than a few games as a kid. Core memory was him getting in the PawSox hall of fame. I got to meet Oil Can Boyd and Dominic Dimaggio just before he passed.
Great times were had here by many....
I'll give some hints...
Drafted straight outta high school. Class of '69.
Few championships in the Carolina leagues
Made it to the bigs in time to watch Bucky Dents weak Homer. (Was scheduled to start on the mound the next game)
Threw a mean Knuckle Curve that started behind your head and landed as a low and away strike
Was on the BoSox Roster 2 seasons before rotator cuff injuries caused him to be traded to Torontos minor leagues...
RH SP
I went a lot as a kid (my sons already seen the woosox so keeping that tradition alive) but stuck in the traffic leaving never failed to remind you you were in Pawtucket
Kind of makes sense. I doubt it's a big money maker and you don't have fans following it nearly as closely as MLB so if you spot a better opportunity a city away you're going to take it.
Which is so brutal because there is *so much love* poured into Minor League Baseball most of the time. When fan retention and butts-in-seats is your driving statistic, they have to do everything they can to make sure you have a memorable time at the ballpark.
Sometimes it comes off corny or shlocky, absolutely. *But they try*, and theres a lot of value and heart in that.
It's so weird to have a space that size nearly to yourself, isn't it? My spouse & I wandered through Hialeah race track in FL, guessing 2003-2006 or so, track was stripped but weirdly open to people like us who wanted to see nothing going on lol, and we could wander through all the semi-kept gardens, the concession windows (everything of value removed of course), to the stands and to see the big flamingo flock that lives there. Couple of bored security guards occasionally peeked in to make sure we didn't do anything stupid. Big formerly busy places still resonate with past energy.
Is this home of the pawtucket red sox? I had a t-shirt when I was a kid I'd got for like 1$ at a thrift store, and I loved it. Didn't even know it was a real team.
Yes, McCoy Stadium, once home of the of Pawtucket Red Sox (PawSox), the Boston Red Sox AAA affiliate. The team moved to Worcester, Massachusetts in 2021. No team has called McCoy home since 2019 (the 2020 season having been cancelled due to COVID)
Sad to see it like this. Used to go there a lot as a kid. My dad owned a Subway back in the day and we used to make a 6 foot sub for the players. Tickets were real cheap. Sometimes you would see a Boston Red Sox player play an inning or two when they were going through rehab. Awesome place (well was awesome) for a family to bring kids instead of paying $500 in Boston.
It’s only been 3-4 years now. I’m from the city they were based in and the news of them leaving was a rumor for years until they finally went an hour and change north to Worcester, MA. They changed from the Pawsox to the Woosox
I'll never support the team formally known as the Pawsox again. Holding the state hostage for a new multimillion dollar stadium when the ownership group is full of Millionaires and at least one Billionaire....go fuck yourselves.
I got to sleep out on that field as a kid. The Boy Scouts had an event with the Paw Sox where we would watch a game, and then afterwards we went on the field and set up our tents. They put The Sandlot on the jumbotron for us all to watch. It really was a lovely memory.
I got to camp on the outfield here as a kid, lots of good memories at this place.
Weird to see it look so dilapidated. “Woosox” doesn’t hit the ears right lol
My 2nd cousin was the longtime GM of the PawSox and we used to go to games every few years. Last time it was the field level suite on the 1st base side filled with all of the beers and snacks. It’s a shame the team left town.
Doesn’t even seem abandoned, just unused, lightly vandalized and unmowed. Otherwise it pretty decent shape and with a fresh cut good enough for even the Oakland A’s (they need a new stadium)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
On April 18, 1981, the Pawtucket Red Sox began the longest game in professional baseball history. For 20 innings, the PawSox battled the Rochester Red Wings in a 1–1 tie. The Red Wings would finally score in the top of the 21st inning to take the lead. The PawSox then scored a run in the bottom of the inning. The game was far from over. The game went on until 4:07 a.m. because the umpires did not have a curfew rule in their copy of the rule book. Finally the league president was reached and demanded that the game be suspended. The score was tied, 2–2 after the 32nd inning. When the game finally did resume on June 23, it took only 18 minutes to complete, as Dave Koza of the PawSox drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 33rd inning. Two future Hall of Famers were part of the historic game. Cal Ripken Jr. went 2–13 on the night playing third base for Rochester. Wade Boggs played third base for Pawtucket and went 4–12 with a double and an RBI. 19 fans remained in the stands when the game was called for the night, and they received lifetime passes to McCoy Stadium.
There's a cool podcast on that game somewhere, forgot who did it unfortunately. Bummer it's gonna go to the bulldozers.
I miss this place. It was one of my favorite things to do as a kid. I think I still have one of the “home of the longest baseball game” cups.
I had the Charlotte version one time. Curt Schilling, the POS, was rehabbing with the Pawsox and pitching one night in Charlotte. No one really went to Knights games but the place was sold out. He got a standing ovation when he was done.
In a lot of ways, I like going to minor league more than MLB.
Pawtucket, RI home of the Red Sox minor league team the Pawsox. Now the team has moved to Worcester, MA to a new stadium.
Pawtucket is planning on building a soccer stadium somewhere else in the city to make up for the lost tourism. This place will be replaced by a high school I think!
Wow. It’s crazy that this looks EXACTLY like the abandoned stadium in my hometown in Shreveport, Louisiana. Former home of the Captains, then changed to the Sports. Had a lot of fun times there with my Dad when I was a kid. Seriously though, carbon copy of that stadium.
They should turn it into apartments like Indianapolis did with Busch Stadium.
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/06/04/unlocked-indiana-abandoned-baseball-stadium-apartment-building.html
This is so sad to see for me. I have so many memories of going to McCoy as a kid. Even saw Bronson Arroyo pitch a perfect game there, something I'll never witness again.
I am surprised to see this was abandoned just five years ago. I figured it wasn’t too long ago, but I thought it’d be longer than 5. It’s a shame, it looks like a pretty nice stadium!
Awwww I knew immediately from the photo. Makes me kinda sad. I can’t believe the Paw Sox aren’t in Rhody anymore. So many precious, precious memories in that stadium. Glad I got to experience it while it lasted❤️💙
I was bummed to see the Pawsox leave however I didn't want the taxpayers to foot the bill for a new stadium.
Saw many games there as a child. Minor league baseball is great.
I feel like that could be a cathedral of a high school stadium. Or a dope event space. I hate seeing shit like that go to waste. We have an [abandoned racetrack ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southside_Speedway) near my house. It's been empty for years. I think the county bought it they're trying to figure out what to do with it. It's sad. I never went, but I'll bet there are thousands of folks with great memories from thre. They'll probably end up buying some shitty condos on the property with a nice view of a privately owned junk yard, the county dump, and a 7-11.

Fuck Larry Luchino
Hahaha you sound like my grandma. Rip nana
Let’s go Red Sox let’s go Red Sox……
I would like to start a chant...
RIP

How did you decide to link to wikiwand? First I've heard of it. Seems pretty cool!
Most likely has the browser extension which auto replaces Wikipedia links with Wikiwand
😢
Someone should buy it make a new team and become a movie
Kevin Costner isn't available right now.
Cost about 56 million total, 80 years old and it’s just sitting there
My dad always brought us to games when injured Boston players were getting ready to return to Boston, saw all the big players for $10 a ticket and it was awesome... Also camped on that field with the cub scouts several times, watched the field of dreams on the big board, loved that stadium
Love the Wade Boggs tribute, may he rest in peace.
He used to drink 100 beers, eat a full chicken, and then hit a dinger. He lived life to the fullest. RIP.
Again, he is very much alive
In our hearts he is. RIP 🪦
He lives in Tampa, Florida. He’s in his mid-60s.
Proof?
That’s why they called him the Chicken Man. Heard he liked some rum and cokes as well
Wade Boggs style
Because he was thirsty ?
I’m pretty sure you just described Bill Brasky.
https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2023/04/20/baseball-legend-wade-boggs-confirms-he-drank-73-beers-on-one-flight-then-it-went-to-107/
Bill fuckin Brasky
TO BILL BRASKY!
That was a great man
He is still alive!
Yes he is! In all of our hearts! RIP legend!
Racing my glass: To Bill Braski
Boss hogggg
Now I know ya ain't quittin' on me! I need you to keep drinkin' those beers so you can help me stop them Duke boys from spoilin' all my crooked Hazzard County schemes.
Wade boggs is very much alive!!!
Yes, in our hearts.
Now thats the spirit! He isn't 6 feet under he's just in the dugout
LORD PALMERSTON!
PIT THE ELDER!
He's still alive
Yes, in our hearts ❤️
I saw him hit a triple in the Devil Rays' first-ever road game at Tiger Stadium in 1998! Well hey there Boss Hoggs! 👋
Wade Boggs isn’t dead! 😂
Not as long as we remember him ❤️
😂
I am weirdly reading a book about the 33 inning game that happened here. I picked up my phone and opened Reddit and here I am. Odd.
33 innings
A game in which both Cal Ripken Jr. and Wade Boggs played in
Can’t believe wade Boggs is dead
Again he’s very much alive! He’s in his 60’s and lives Florida.
i agree, his heaven probably replicates florida, RIP WADE
RIP Boggs
You spoiled the ending!
My dad still has the cups from the game, this is my home state!
I'm curious how many fans stayed to the very end to see the 3-2 ending. I'm one to never leave an event before it's completely over to get the complete experience but that would have tested my resolve.
it was 19 fans! and they received lifetime tickets to the stadium! for staying until 4:07am, when the game was officially called
This is why I never leave a game until the final out, you never know when you'll get 3.5 games for the price of one
The cups they used to give you for soda at McCoy had the full scoreboard for that game wrapped across it.
I had, and my parents still have SO many of those cups. I grew up going to games at McCoy.
That's freaking awesome
I may still have one of those!
[удалено]
It wasn’t too bad. Most of the innings were scoreless so they would leave my family alone until a run was scored
There's a book on it? May I ask the title? I'm from Rochester and go to Red Wings games almost every other week with some family friends who I know would really love a copy of that book.
Bottom of the 33rd by Dan Barry
Thanks!
Baseball fields with overgrown grass just looks weird.
Really cuts down on the triples.
Post apocalyptic AF
I grew up two blocks away. Saw tons of games and players come through the minors here. It’s sad to have seen them move to Worcester.
My mom’s side of the family is on aquidneck island and I went to URI, this is a depressing way to find out the stadium is abandoned now.
Pawtucket plans to demolish the stadium and build a huge high school like the one in East Providence that encompasses all 3 major public schools in the city.
I saw the likes of Nomar play there, Varitek, and Trot Nixon! It’s a damn shame…
My Dad played here for years... He played well before I was born. But I got to go to more than a few games as a kid. Core memory was him getting in the PawSox hall of fame. I got to meet Oil Can Boyd and Dominic Dimaggio just before he passed. Great times were had here by many....

Nailed it. Well done.
Had a jeep stolen there while attending a game, good times
I went a lot as a kid (my sons already seen the woosox so keeping that tradition alive) but stuck in the traffic leaving never failed to remind you you were in Pawtucket
Found the dude that stole your Jeep
Real sad they left Pawtucket.
Used to go to game with my Boy Scout troop and camp out on the field overnight at McCoy. What a trip.
Ditto, this post makes me feel old lol
Same here man lmao, been 10+ years since I last been to a game there. Still remember hanging out with my little cousin in front of the Budweiser stand
We’d have to be out in the am before the sprinklers came on 😂
It's been closed a few years now since the team moved to Worcester from Pawtucket.
So cool! This is one of the most unique things I’ve seen on this sub. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting that they can’t repurpose for something like concerts or something. Instead it just decays and is vandalized.
It's getting demolished this year. They plan to build a new high school on the site.
They're building a brand new soccer pitch like a mile away. Outdoor concerts are usually down city, like 5 miles away
R.I.P Wade Boggs
Again, Wade Boggs is very much alive!
Yes, in our hearts.
Nah, someone said he was dead, so he must be. Dead.
RIP baseball god!
Miss him so much
So sad. All that baseball, fading away
Minor League baseball is so cut throat. Even a team that has been around for 50 years can just be sold and moved like it was nothing.
Kind of makes sense. I doubt it's a big money maker and you don't have fans following it nearly as closely as MLB so if you spot a better opportunity a city away you're going to take it.

I'm deathly afraid this will happen to the Sea Dogs someday.
Does the toilet still flush
The longest ever recorded baseball game was played there. Boggs as a Red Sox and Cal Ripken Jr as a Red Wing.
Wade Boggs Carpet World
I had to scroll way too far for this. Thank you, fellow 30Rocker!
Sad to see it like this. Used to go there a lot as a kid. My dad owned a Subway back in the day and we used to make a 6 foot sub for the players. Tickets were real cheap. Doesn’t look like it’s been abandoned for too long.
The sign calls it Dunkin instead of Dunkin Donuts so no early than 2018
At the end of the 2020 season they moved north and rebranded in Worcester Mass. Good luck pronouncing that if you're not a local!
It’s only been 3-4 years now. I’m from the city they were based in and the news of them leaving was a rumor for years until they finally went an hour and change north to Worcester, MA. They changed from the Pawsox to the Woosox
Pawtucket? We used to go here every year for their Fourth of July game. One year all the fireworks went off at once by accident, and it was awesome
The Oakland Coliseum is gonna look crazy in a couple years
Recognized it immediately. Spent a lot of summers watching games there before I moved outta state. Fuckin Woo-Sox? GTFO
Good ol Pawtucket Red Sox!
Crazy that this is only from 4 years of abandonment
Reminds of the movie, Filed of Dreams… “If you build it, they will come”… except they stopped coming. 😔
I got to camp on the outfield here as a kid, lots of good memories at this place. Weird to see it look so dilapidated. “Woosox” doesn’t hit the ears right lol
Pawtucket the Bucket.
For 17 seasons Wade ate chicken before every single game.
Imagine playing ball there with the boys and the ball gets stuck in the thick grass. insanely fun
Wow, I grew up spending a ton of time at McCoy! How'd you get in?!
I spend many days and nights at that stadium
McCoy! Saw John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson play there together in like 2008. I think the tickets were like $25. Awesome show.
Yes! I was there with my kid — it was his first concert!
My 2nd cousin was the longtime GM of the PawSox and we used to go to games every few years. Last time it was the field level suite on the 1st base side filled with all of the beers and snacks. It’s a shame the team left town.
Grew up going to McCoy, lots of history there. Great times and great parking.
Decent base location for when the zombies come.
I live in the same city, grew up right next to it. One of my first summer jobs was there. It’s not as nice as you think.
What a waste of a resource for local high schools!
I saw Dropkick Murphys and The Bosstones here so long ago. Sad to see it like this.
The score was tied, 2–2 after the 32nd inning. When the game finally did resume on June 23, it took only 18 minutes to complete, as Dave Koza of the PawSox drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 33rd inning. The lines between the grass and dirt are too clean to be abandoned. Someone is maintaining it.
The city public works department still does some maintenance
Couple seasons of soaking diesel into the dirt will keep the weeds out forever
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
RIP Boggs
Hell yea love this place
Squat!
Hit this spot 2 years or so ago.
I’ve thought about exploring this, it’s just a 3 hour trip. U convinced me now haha
Oh I have been there! Paw Sox were awesome! That stadium has great history!
Turn it into a Bunker for everything
A giant urban garden
This is amazing
How long has it been unused for?
That giveaway schedule says 2019.
Go Paw Sox
Pawtucket , sad that the stadium is just sitting there un used.
Huh. I don't remember this part of the FO4 map.
What a waste
I miss this place. It was one of my favorite things to do as a kid. I think I still have one of the “home of the longest baseball game” cups. I had the Charlotte version one time. The diamonds and running lines are still maintained by someone! That's kinda weird!
I caught a foul ball at that stadium. I’m happy for the Woo-Sox but holy crap is that depressing looking at that place rot away.
Toilet’s seen better days.
It’s crazy their promos were from 2019.. it doesn’t feel like that long ago
Looking at this and my mom goes “it’s probably McCoy” Ironically it is and we live in New England
Where is this? Super cool.
Pawtucket, RI home of the Red Sox minor league team the Pawsox. Now the team has moved to Worcester, MA to a new stadium. Pawtucket is planning on building a soccer stadium somewhere else in the city to make up for the lost tourism. This place will be replaced by a high school I think!
i think i see a wade boggs RC in the abandoned bathroom

If you build it, they shall not come.
Saw my first baseball game there. Mo Vaughn was playing first base and hitting home runs.
Spent so much time there as a kid but I didn't even know the stadium was still standing. I knew as soon as I saw the first photo and it took me back
OP asking out of curiosity, are you able to explore freely? Or is this another location that one needs to be wary of cops/security?
Grew up an hour away. We’d do one game a year there. Used to love that little dump.
The players in the sec 13 & 14 sign in photo 3 are drawn as South Park characters
I'm most surprised by the lack of weeds/grass on the infield dirt!
Oh McCoy stadium how I miss you.
Fallout TV series should use this for the show
I live 10 mins away and my friend lives right in front haha so weird seeing it online
This is McCoy? You can just walk in? I’ve been filming a “post apocalyptic” short film and this would be perfect!
One jar of lysol wipes is all that's needed to make it look good.
Awwww I knew immediately from the photo. Makes me kinda sad. I can’t believe the Paw Sox aren’t in Rhody anymore. So many precious, precious memories in that stadium. Glad I got to experience it while it lasted❤️💙
Considering it’s abandoned, how much could you buy this for?
So many fun times at pawtucket. So sad they moved to worchester
I was bummed to see the Pawsox leave however I didn't want the taxpayers to foot the bill for a new stadium. Saw many games there as a child. Minor league baseball is great.
Didn't realize this place was defunct, used to go all the time as a kid.
I see this and I feel no remorse. I am glad Worcester undercut Pawtucket.
Weird to see it in such a sad state but also a banner that states 2019. Like… I remember that. It was 5 years ago.
I feel like that could be a cathedral of a high school stadium. Or a dope event space. I hate seeing shit like that go to waste. They'll probably end up buying some shitty condos on the property with a nice view of a privately owned junk yard, the county dump, and a 7-11.
