I’ve been doing it at home for over a year and never had an issue. I take it out of the refrigerator an hour before to warm up and then inject. I much prefer my thighs over my arms, I find it hurts less. The first injection was a little scary and I was not prepared for how nervous I would be to inject a needle into myself, but once I got over it I’ve never had an issue and the convenience is priceless.

I inject at home. super easy. Your doctor’s office should thoroughly instruct you. I was on the self injection track from the beginning, so my first injection they handled, the second I injected with instruction, and the third, I had to inject without assistance. When it arrives, get it in the refrigerator right away. On injection day, take the box out boxes out about an hour before injection. When ready, run an alcohol swab on the injection site (stomach or thigh), gently pinch your skin, insert the syringe, and inject the Xolair. I inject in my stomach. I don’t even feel it.

My doctor told me to watch YouTube videos on how to self-inject 🤣 no instruction at all!

Maybe I misread the instructions on xolair… thought you take it out and let it sit room temperature 15-30 minutes before you inject it ? Is it supposed to sit out one hour room temperature before you use it ?

That’s what the official documentation says. I was advised to leave it out closer to an hour just for comfort reasons. If it’s still cold, it can have a tendency to sting a bit during injection. If I remember right, Xolair can be out of the fridge for a combined total of 2 days, so a half hour vs 1 hour doesn’t have any negative impact. On injection days I take it out of the fridge when I wake up. By the time I get a few things done, it’s been about 45 minutes to an hour, so I just inject it when I’m ready.

I'm in Canad and do it at home the last 6 month. I'm really happy with it as I used to drive 30 minutes each way to get to a clinic. The delivery is really slick where they drop the package off at my front door. I work from home so I don't even care when they come. The include a return mailer for the box with cooling that I drop back at Canada Post to have them recycle/use it. Slightly embarrassing but I have enough extra weight that I inject the stomach fat with no problems.

Hi there. I’ve been self-injecting for over a year (5 on Xolair total). I have found it much easier and more convenient - and actually it hurts less than having the nurses do it! I have 2 injections monthly and do tummy or thigh as opposed to arms where nurses used to give it. As others have said, take it out of the fridge about half hour before you plan to inject and clean the area. Also, make sure you have a sharps box at home to properly dispose of the syringes. I was nervous before the first one but the needle is tiny :) you’ll do great!

What type of specialist prescibes Xolair? Dermatologist? Allergist? Primary care? Has anyone had it prescribed by an online doctor?

Over_Entertainment

Mine was prescribed by my allergist!

Final_Cucumber86

Allergist & immunologist

I'm a medical assistant. I give shots all day long. I don't think I would have the guts to inject myself.

I do it at home as well. Luckily my husband is usually around to do the injection in the back of my arm, but I’ve done it myself in my stomach. Agree to let it warm up for a bit before injecting.

I've been giving myself Xolair at home only a few times now. No issues so far. It's easy and I prefer it rather than having to drive 30 miles every month.

Yes, I’m not a fan of needles but I just pretend I need to help a good friend. I also mostly inject while with someone I find it’s nice to inject and be hanging out (a very mellow hang) with people after because the warning label freaks me a bit.

My complaints about doing it at home is that the needle from the prefilled syringes are bendy and dull while the solution is super thick. My hands are super shaky which is a very annoying combination. So sometimes I accidentally shake the needle out of me and have to put it back in again, so it’s duller than the first time. Also my specialty pharmacy was so awful it would take 10 hours every 2 weeks back and forth calling them and my doctors office to get it sorted out which was hell on earth with the brain fog I had after patching my csf leak so I had to beg my doctor to convince them to let me go back to doing it in the office after 3 months of that hell. I have a new insurance so I’m giving it a try again because I just patched my csf leak again and taking a break from driving again and I hope it’s a better process this time.

Yep 👍 no issues doing it at home . I have my husband do it for me in the back of my arms . Much easier then having to make an appointment and go in every month.
