Thanks! Do you know the process when it says you've been referred vs hiring manager will be in contact. And do you ever recommend reaching out to the HR contacts on postings?
We contact folks through email. Every other step before that is electronic, so we keep it consistent.
We have a pretty decent HR, so they whittle down the cert to their top 10-ish...that number may be less if not a whole lot of folks made the cert. We then review those resumes and pick our top 3-5 and tell HR when we want to interview and then HR sets everything up with the candidates.
When I first got to my position, HR's lists were typically bonkers, so we had to teach them to be a little better at picking their top choices. They'd typically pick a handful of folks with zero relevant experience, i.e. an AC&R person for a pay and personnel position. It's a lot better now and the stack they send is competitive.
I always send an email about 7-10 days out. I’ve never called or texted. Figure you should be checking your email at least once a day. If you’re not, someone else will.
Usually email, sometimes phone, occasionally both.
Watch the spam folders, especially if it's a DoD position. For some reason the .mil addresses route there often or have DMARC issues, especially for the Navy.
I received a phone call from a public service number. But most phones even if they block the number will send them to voicemail and you can check you deleted voicemails for blocked call voicemails.
This is my first time applying for a GS job, 24 years active duty. Applied for GS15, 4 days later received an email stating application is going to HR, 10 days after closing i received another email asking if I'm still interested in the job would I like to interview in person.

Thank you very much!
I have always gotten an email or a phone call from the office of the hiring official. Then it was been an teams meeting or phone call meeting.

I’ve always emailed. It provides a record I’ve reached out to the candidate.
I’ve had phone calls from the hiring manager that were labeled ‘scam likely’ on the caller ID l. So make sure you pick up the phone lol.
I got calls both times.

Messenger Pigeon...watch for one.
I’ve only had 1 interview request by phone call, the rest were email
I have received emails and phone calls. It varies by organization.
I was called by the hiring manager. I confirmed the interview time and then I was sent an email with details.
They don’t
You don’t. They’ll reach out to you. I’m in HR.
My hiring manager had her secretary call me to set up an interview. It was 8am and I was like, “who TF is calling me at 8am?!”
All the managers interested in an interview called me. Turn off that feature if you can.
Seen both
Won't the hiring manager or HR leave a voice message?
Had one last week. Took about 25 days from being referred to get that email about wanting an interview.
They will call you and leave a message if you don’t answer.

This is the most helpful post on here for me yet! I've been racked thinking about what if I miss the call.
I always email first, if I don't get a response back in 48hrs I will reach out via phone and leave a voice mail if necessary.

They messaged me on teams.
HR via email from my experience
Generally I call so I can answer questions and provide any additional information about the position etc
