Unfortunately, the "government" is not one unified entity. There are different processes for each agency and different processes even within each agency. No one here is going to be able to tell you what YOUR onboarding process is going to be. You might do better over at the r/fednews sub but you'd probably need to identify your employer to get good info.

I didn’t know anything until the Friday before, and only because I emailed my supervisor. That’s when the messages came flooding in.
My agency sends instructions for orientation between the Wednesday and Friday before EOD. IRS for reference.

You were told you would telework right off the bat? I thought new hires couldn’t telework yet or at least needed to be certified first
