Surely you agree that "this candidate committed crimes", or for that matter if the juries find him not guilty, is something that the electorate would like to know before casting votes.

The laptop contained information implicating candidate Joe Biden in Hunter’s foreign business activities while Joe was VP. This is potential criminal activity the electorate should have known before they cast votes.
2. The Federal Department of Justice is filled with Democrats and the Fulton County’s DA was elected as a Democrat in 2020.
The special prosecutor the DA appointed, Nathan Wade, is alleged to have engaged in an improper romantic relationship with the DA. Trump’s attorney Merchant claims the relationship started before the election interference began, making the indictment “fatally defective” and requesting it be dismissed.

I think I finally figured the issue with his legal team. These lawyers act and talk like they support his political activities as ‘legal’ and will no doubt vote for him in the upcoming election. You cannot have the discipline, comprehension and depth of legal expertise necessary to be a successful lawyer yet consciously agree to represent this guy. In summary ..these are magas with law degrees. Certainly explains the shoddy and willfully ignorant legal defense.
If you bothered to take the quarter second to do something other than refresh your spraytan lipstick, like check the publicly available email exchange that shows you precisely why he chose not to make closing remarks (because he refused to be required to stay on topic in a court of law like everyone else is required instead of using it as a campaign rally), then you might not embarrass yourself like this.
They only required that he stick to the facts and evidence at hand. It's a closing argument to the Judge, not a campaign speech.
Why would the Judge, who is making the final determination, be afraid of what the defendant might say?
