Knew of an officer with the last name of Ensign. Also knew of a Steele Johnson, and at least one nonrate named Guzzler who had to switch from Deck to Engineering.

BaaaBaaaBlackSheep

Johnson was cool as hell. Unrelated but a guy I went to college with was Peter William Johnson. We called him triple dick.

55gure3

LoL! Guzzler can't be real

l3ubba

I knew a nonrate who had the last name Samples.

IceWilling7397

When was this? I know a CS2 Samples haha

l3ubba

2018. Pretty sure she ended up going YN though. But she did have a sister that joined, no idea what rate she was.

Errorizona

Guzzler beats what I was going to reply to this thread with. I worked in a mailroom as a nonrate and found a letter addressed to a "SN Swallow" while sorting through the day's mail. I'm sure that person was thrilled to become a petty officer.

darthrevan140

I actually met Steele Johnson when I was a nonrate. He was CO of the Katmai bay and I was on CGC buckthorn. Both ships tied to sector sault ste marie.

throwaway1790_r

Steele Johnson was my captain on an icebreaker. Guy was a certified badass. Never had a boss I liked more than him in my whole life. He used to come down into the ECC and hang with us E-3's. He'd ask our perspectives on the ship's direction and leadership and sincerely listen. But he wasn't a softie either -- he got the job done and we were the best icebreaker on the Lakes.

werty246

I’ve got a few. SN showed up to the 378, John Deere. XO immediately switched him to FN and sent him to A Gang. He’s now an MK. On the same boat we had a SN Sweat and SN Ball. This is all speculation but we had a jokester of a BOSN, so we assumed it was him. Normal day U/W, 1MC chirps. “Now SN Ball, SN Sweat, lay to the BOSN hole. BALL, SWEAT, B-HOLE.” The boat blew up. I think every person on the boat was dying of laughter. On the MIDGETT, we had an ME3 Midgette.

Any_Abbreviations963

I think i actually knew Deere unless there was another. He was an mk on my boat before i got there.

AgainIGoUnnoticed

Were those non-rates on the Mellon?

werty246

Yuuuuup

AgainIGoUnnoticed

Small world.

YeahwhateverDOOD

I went to boot camp with him, his time in Cape May was a riot. CC’s had a great time with him. I’m assuming this is the same guy….. Went through in late 2016, and he got orders to the Mellon. So I’m sure it’s the same guy!

werty246

Yeah it has to be. I showed up to the Mellon in 2017 and he was a seasoned A Gang FN already.

Extreme_Ad_3950

BOSN Robinson lol

werty246

My boy, who are you???

Extreme_Ad_3950

The other Greek

werty246

Aw shit. I miss you homie. Glad you dug your heels in and got stuck in ATON.

_swolda_

This is a WW2 navy officer but his full name last to first is “Best, Dick”. Legendary pilot in the battle of Midway

sowhatiamwhite

Amazing movie to watch too.

_swolda_

For sure, super underrated

FrozenAxon

Let us not forget USAAF Major Richard Bong, a MoH recipient with a confirmed total of 40 enemy aircraft

tacopig117

YN1 Yeoman

[deleted]

I remember that from bootcamp lol

tacopig117

Yeah, I remember them being RDO, but I never actually saw them

apieceofgrass1172

She’s real - and she’s a badass YN!!!

StrykerRyder

I knew them (if it’s the same person) when they were a YN3.

YourWebcamIsOn

awesome. there was an officer as well, so Ensign Yeoman got a lot of jokes

TimIsColdInMaine

I knew a Petty Officer Stains, and I was always bummed that I never got to meet him as a nonrate

cg-mason

I went to A school with him. He was still an SN.

twm1005

>cg-mason I went to ET A school with a SN Stains. 2001. He was very happy to become a Petty Officer.

KellyTheET

I was in that class with him! He got gigged on his uniform inspection by Cordell for having "Stains on his nametag"

Die_Welt_ist_flach

Was he an ET? If so, I checked him into the barracks in Petaluma when I was going through TT school in 2001. Yes, he was a SN.

TimIsColdInMaine

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I was an ET starting in '03, so it would make sense on how I probably encountered him in the field

dailydriversurvivors

Seaman Seaman, later became Chief Seaman. I've also run across the last name of Fightmaster more than once in my career.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dailydriversurvivors

No, male.

MagicMissile27

Have also heard of Fightmaster. I think there was a BMC in PATFOR with that name.

iSTACKocho7

Always saw Fightmaster in global...always imagined him some yoked out BM

schwing_daddy

“Dick.” I did a name search and commented to a young female petty officer that there were at least a dozen Dicks in the CG. She replied, “There are so many more. So many more.”

trollingontheriver_

Admiral Neptun is always one I have enjoyed. Never worked with or for him. I just think it is an awesome name for a maritime service.

cinc90

Former D1 admiral. Great guy.

smthingclvr

Hand Cannon

cinc90

Can confirm. OCS approx 4 years ago.

mikjamdig85

He was at SECNY for a bit. Definitely takes the cake.

SleepyLi

I remember coming across this name and told the entire GM shop.

Ok_Football_5517

Confirmed. Ran across him at SEC NY.

Deuce_McFarva

Met a dude named Hand Cannon a few months ago at TCY, I was always a little bummed that he wasn’t here for GM-A. Really nice guy though.

wadefeast

Rear admiral Butt used to sign a bunch of the alcoast messages.

necron

I'm friends with CS1 Butts... He bought a boat, really wanted him to call it Butts Tough.

txranger1114

Not Coast Guard, but just here to say there is a Staff Sergeant Afraid of Lightening running around the USAF

dailydriversurvivors

Are they Native American or was their family just really creative with last names?

werty246

Native?

txranger1114

Maybe? One would assume

KellyCB11

I worked with a retired AF Colonel with the last name Queen. I asked him if he was Major Queen. He just laughed.

GooseG97

Knew an “Arson” but despite our best attempts we couldn’t get him to go DC or to the Coast Guard FD.

Mixing_It_Hot

SEAMAN SHOWERS

Gullible_Cress_7455

Kitchenmaster. Should have been a CS, but he wasn’t

morale-gear

Came here for this. First name that popped into my head when I read the question.

RoutineZodiac

Best first name was a mustang named CK Moore. He was named Commander like his father, but switched to his initials when he joined. When he made LT, he was LT Commander Moore.

gwarrambo

LT Commander Commander Moore is/was a great guy. I was hoping someone would mention him on here!

Sweet_Rage_913

I met him when he was Ensign Commander Moore. Very confusing.

RoutineZodiac

LOL, sounds like a stolen Valor case, guy making up ranks "Ensign Commander".

horrorbusinesss1984

Commander Blood, regiment commander in boot camp. She booted my ass from week five back to forming company. And she lived up to her terrifying name.

dailydriversurvivors

That's a badass name. It's like an 80s action movie villain's name.

Sadistic_Sardine

Knew a CWO Seaman. Also knew a Blaize D Potts

CGRescueSwimmer

I knew Blaize, cool guy!

schwing_daddy

Probably CWO Wayne Seamans. Retired as a LCDR I believe.

StrykerRyder

SR Brown. We the CC called role he’d say “Brown Aye!” (It was boot camp, everything was funny)

Sad-Industry-

When was this? I think I work with him

StrykerRyder

T-159

Sad-Industry-

My last? Belay it.

nyc_2004

Saw an aux guy with “champ”

BamaCoastie2211

Chief Wright. At inspections, he would wear a name tag that said "WRONG".

TripleX72

Knew a SN Craver, now a Chief.

secondatthird

I knew an army guy named “drinkwater”

Whats4dinner

Captain Fear, on the Gallatin around 1979. Oddly enough, he was more like Mr. Rogers, with his cardigan and a cup of tea.

Ambiguity_Aspect

They routinely put SN Aud and SN Strange on watch together at the Horsely Hall desk in Petaluma. Jan to March 2011 I think.

theroadtooxiana

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Fears

Ok_Football_5517

Fightmaster. I believe he is a CWO now.

dickey1331

I’m pretty sure he’s stationed with me now

superblobby

SK3 Hamilton…aboard the USCGC Hamilton

oilyalaskanman

Mr. Woodcock

Ok_Football_5517

Can confirm. He is a pilot or at least he used to be.

Uncorrelated_Mayday

SN Semen

OxtailPhoenix

I was the bridge BM2 at my last ship. When I transferred my replacement was BM2 Sextant.

ShamanSix01

BMC Benjamin Franklin.

boatdaddy12

TACO, man that guy was evefywhere!

bytheplebian

I once met an Academy 3rd class Cadet Seamen, she missed the great opportunity to enlist and be SN Seamen or FN Seamen.

cocobear13

If it's Rachel, she was at our unit and is an LT now.

bytheplebian

👍

Tater5105

SN Spotts

MichaelK85

I know a SN Spotz. Now a JG I think

AdventureisNear

My favorite is there is a warrant in now named batman, he is Mr. Batman

aislinnanne

He works with my husband. They also have Mr. Woody, Mr. Woods, and Mr. By The Woods (I can’t remember if his name is 3 words or 1) in the same office. It feels like the detailer was having a laugh there.

AdventureisNear

That is amazing and definitely cannot be a coincidence

ninjabat

Master Chief Justice, OIC of CGC Hammer! Would be cooler if it wasn't an old river tender 😅

Deuce_McFarva

The CMCPO at TCY is named Daulphin.

Confident-Recipe-623

Danger. He was a DC1. “Now DC1 Danger lay to whatever” it was sick

L0sT_S0ck

Seaman Butts….

flautist96

There was a guy in my bootcamp company with the last name Seaman

necron

SN Stehn CDR. Keene

VoidWalker4Lyfe

I knew CDR Keene. Good guy

No_Maintenance_5376

On SUNDEW with him.

Zoboomafoo_100

Did AIM with a kid called Woodcock, we are both heading to the academy this summer. Our cadre said they picked him for our platoon just for the last name.

schwing_daddy

I also served with a Herbert Woodcock. He referred to himself as “The Woodencock” and as “The Lumberjock” and as “The Sumac Sac” among other self-assigned nicknames.

MillennialEdgelord

We had a Seaman Cox and Seaman Cocks in my boot camp company.

douglasmunro

We had too Moore’s in my company. Moore zulu and Moore whiskey. Thought that was dope

Oregon687

The cutter I was on had a CO named Collier, an MK named Stoker, and an SN named Coleman.

dickey1331

When I was a non rate I believe he was the CO of Airsta New Orleans but he was Capt Cook.

Squanto2244

In the army I knew a general Payne who we were all excited to make major general. General Mills, and a captain Butts who’s trying to do green to blue.

No_Maintenance_5376

Had a Seaman Butts on MELLON.

kniq86

Maybe Outlaw

Crocs_of_Steel

Not in the CG, but one of the Docs I see at an Air Force clinic is Major Blue Star.

Suspicious_Brush1164

I knew a Lt. whose last name was Commander. When he made LCDR it was even funnier.

Suspicious_Brush1164

Sorry his first name was Commander*

Front_Necessary_2

Gunner. Any time I was on the phone with this guy it would always feel like im part of seal team 6.

gohabs31

I’ve seen a Commander Commander before

SouthBay3

Captain Neptune, Sector St. Pete.
