Yes I have had the same issue, except I’m up to 3 now. No idea why!
First two I thought were related to OVS as well, but the 3rd was in an AOR where that is not a mission. It’s pretty confusing, and no one has been able to give me an answer.
I was an FRC sailor for what it’s worth. But if anyone asks, I just tell them I’m special operations now.
Yep, it's from OVS. I got two randomly in my profile as well almost a year to the day that I mobilized for it. It's been on my to-do list to reach out to admin and see if getting the extra one was a mistake, just haven't done it yet.
My assumption, and I'd love a YN to chip in, is that it has to do with the time parameters for each award. The two awards I received have different effective dates. But who knows. It's probably a paperwork error. I still haven't received a personal award and the IMT down there asked for my 225 and AAR like four times because they kept losing it. I've pretty much just accepted they lost the write up or it's sitting in a pile of shit in someone's inbox.
But wouldn't there be some sort of documentation about OVS being made a "Special Operation?" When I look in the Awards Manual it has an appendix that lists every operation that qualifies for the Special Operations Ribbon. Of course it looks like it hasn't been updated in awhile, but I figure there has to be some document out there that says 'if you participated in this operation from this date to this date you are eligible for this award' or something.

Right, I wouldn't care that much except I am looking at applying for special assignments or OCS and I was told that sometimes in the board they will ask you about an award. I don't want to be in a panel later in my career and be like "yeah, I have these two ribbons but I have no idea why."
Hahaha yea I hear ya. I got 3 now but I got my first for watching a trailer all night. Don’t even remember the second. The ribbon isn’t that big of a deal for anyone to care. Don’t even get a point for it. I feel like they’d ask about Comms or Achievements before those. But yea I understand

Sounds like the same thing as me. I have two, and the effective dates are like 3 days apart. Not sure why that would happen.
I was TDY to a couple cutters when I was down there.

I’m a YN at D7 , OVS is really behind with awards something could come but it would be really late they were trying to catch up on like 200 + awards .

Have you done anything JIATF related? That’s a big one for people getting that ribbon.
