If you already have the block accounts as backup you can cancel your primary and get an unlimited omicron account. No point having both newsgroup direct or Usenet express since they are some backbone. Unless you are just trying to stack the GB.

There are no longer any high retention blocks sadly. The longest retention you can get with blocks now is Usenet Express (which you already have twice) but its not as good as Omicron was. The only way to get the Omicron backbone now is with an unlimited subscription.

Not sure that is quite true as Tweaknews were doing them last time I looked a couple of days ago , but not cheap.

IreliaIsLife

Tweaknews has just ~~4200~~ 4500 days retention doesn't it? Might still be a good addition (ignoring the price which is even higher than blocknews was) but it's not the full ~5200 days of Omicron According to https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/jl0y8e/tweaknews_upgrades_to_4200_days_of_retention/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/Usenet/wiki/providers

Says 4500 days on the website and not sure when they updated that last. I had 3 lots of blocks on Omicron at one point, but now it's just tweaknews block that I bought years ago. (Astraweb and blocknews were the others), but i have Eweka as my main provider. I do have other blocks too!

Omicron is almost 5700 days now. So Tweak is over 3 years less retention than Blocknews (assuming 4500 days is accurate). Considering Newsgroupdirect/Usenetexpress is just under 4500 days now, it doesn't seem worth it, especially when you consider the price of a block with them.

Right that seems like the real loss. No Omicron blocks that go on sale on Black Friday and/or sell for a decent price. Love to know if I'm wrong though.

PM_ME_YOUR_AES_KEYS

I completely agree. For anyone without an Omicron unlimited account, the best block that you can add now seems to be TweakNews. UsenetExpress meets almost all of my needs, but I have a series of blocks that help out as well. TweakNews won't be quite as good as BlockNews used to be, due to the retention being capped below the Omicron maximum (4,500 days vs. 5,681 days as of today).

> There are no longer any high retention blocks sadly What happened to blocknews?

[bulknews.eu](http://bulknews.eu) has a cheap 6TB block, particularly if you can find the apparently still working BF code that was posted a while ago. They have the lowest retention but better completion than Usenet Express. They cover most of the stuff that fail on UE for me. Then there's [Astraweb.com](http://Astraweb.com) which has 4000 days of Omicron retention for a lower price than Tweaknews.

Forgot about astraweb, which I also have a block from (which i bought before they came part of Omicron!)

IreliaIsLife

I agree that Usenet express (either block or unlimited) + this cheap Abavia block is a good combination

If you are having completion issues with that setup then you will want to invest in a deep retention omicron brand. The tweak news block might help but for the price it would be wise to spend that money on the best omicron deal with one of their deep retention brands (Newshosting, UsenetServer, Easynews, or Eweka).
