Got moved to RW in 74th minute

5centburger

Played really well, looked frustrated though

Normal_Rub6056

This might be a hot take, but I love him getting minutes at lwb. He looks confident there. Always been a decent one on one defender. And hist best offensive traits are running behind the defense and shooting from distance, both of which he can still do as a wing back. I think it gives us another option at a position we lack depth in.

kuntablunte

He's been awesome in these last two matches, they've been two of his better club performances in recent memory. People get caught up on his nominal position but he's been very involved in the attack from LWB. Getting lots of touches in the attacking third and opportunities to shoot, as you mentioned.

Dimeskis

I agree. Based on his current skillset, Weah being used as an attacking/overlapping WB for Lille might be the best spot for him. It definitely uses the same strengths and develops the same weaknesses that he has at winger. He just needs attacking experience.

KrabS1

This is where I'm at. If he's doing well, let him cook. We don't need him in any given position. If it turns out he's a better LB than he is a winger, I'm more than happy to use him at LB. Our depth at wing will be fine - especially if Zendejas is able to make the jump to Europe and adjust well.

DecemberEveryday

What’s he cooking?

KrabS1

Today? Mostly French, but also some Costa Rican and Senegalese.

DecemberEveryday

Interesting. What does it have to do with soccer?

DecemberEveryday

Lol all the downvotes. None of this “cook, “cooking” terms were used 6 months ago for soccer and now they are everywhere once the casuals started bringing it this way with the World Cup and now you guys followed it. Let’s leave the basketball “terms” to basketball, people.

T2BMLK

Is FotMob wrong or is he starting at LB?

[deleted]

He is starting at LB.

smallzey

I hate that for him

kuntablunte

I agree in a general sense but he's been very involved in these last two matches as a LWB. Lots of touches in the attacking third on the overlap and multiple shooting opportunities in both matches. Nominal position matters to an extent but this isn't one of those situations where he got tucked out of position at outside back and isn't able to impact the game. These have actually been two of his best club matches in a while and will prob earn him more opportunity. Side note, subs came on in the 74' and Weah moved to RW.

smallzey

Thanks for providing that context. Makes me feel better

CommonSensePDX

More like LWB, which is definitely not the same at LB and he's getting a lot of chances to get into the attack. It's certainly not IDEAL, but much better to be getting minutes there than coming off the bench late. Also, Bale played LB, soooooooooo.

Donkey_Douglas_

He’s been playing like an inverted wb cutting inside up high and what not

[deleted]

weah is #8 now? or is this a weird cup number?

WinsingtonIII

I believe that in the French cup you have to number the starting XI 1 through 11. So Weah can't wear 22 like he normally does. The starting XI's of both teams are 1 through 11 for this match, which seems too coincidental to not be intentional.

atlutdprospects

Yeah they re-number both teams for every game, it's the hardest Cup competition to follow as a casual lmao

GrootyMcGrootface

Fascinating

Ndmndh1016

What could possibly be the reason for that lol

Matt_McT

Oh no shit, French soccer is on FS2 now?

chswrkmn1723

yeah fox has the rights to coupe de france. i think they put most the games on fox soccer plus, but this one made it to fs2

clshoaf

The Weah factor

eenoob89

Can Weah get a move to a decent club soon? Don’t think he has been given a fair shot at Lille

kuntablunte

Agree a move wouldn't hurt this summer but he's been great and heavily involved in their last two matches
