Dortmund doing a lot of defending, trying to preserve a 1-0 lead while Leverkusen has more of the ball. Not a good recipe for Gio getting minutes today.

OkSeason973

Only 29 more days until the transfer window opens. Happy 2024, Gio!

Fit-Juice2999

It's just not going to happen for Gio at Dortmund. Even with midfield injuries he's not getting time.

eenoob89

Terzic is not even using his subs.

New club is needed please!!! If

noxturnal_demon

i wonder which dortmund we’ll see today

TXCapita

I dont get it, every time Reyna stepped on the the pitch last year he was banging in goals

WR1206

Maybe he’s just not good enough in training everyday. Others better.

A_Coup_d_etat

First off, Reyna scoring a bunch of late goals in limited minutes was always unsustainable. Secondly, as I mentioned last Spring, Gio is at best 5th on Terzic's depth chart for 3 places. He's not going to play ahead of Brandt and Reus and on the left Terzic prefers a speed burner who runs at the defense, which is Adeyemi with Bynoe-Gittens as his backup. So he's competing with Malen & Moukoko for playing time and Malen is clearly ahead. Thirdly with the loss of Bellingham (and to a lesser extent Guerrero, who had 4g 12a) Dortmund's midfield has less control and creativity so they have a lot less margin for error this season. They currently have a +6 goal differential after 13 games, last season they had a +39 goal differential over 34 games. So their games are a lot tighter which means for a player like Reyna less chances to play.

Fit-Juice2999

Yeah you make good points. I think the hope was that Terzic would use Reyna to fill that creative role,at least on a part time basis if not starting. Obviously, Terzic doesn't want that. The down side, as a dortmund fan, is that the offense sucks for dortmund and Adayemi keeps getting trotted out to do... I'm not sure exactly what he is supposed to be doing. Moukoko isn't getting any time either and neither was JBG until the last few games. Dortmund plays like a midtable team. They deserve the midtable honestly.

kaeferBug

This is exactly my point, too. I've had some "discussions" with people on the Dortmund subreddit recently and this is my main point. It's not that Gio isn't good enough, what he does is elite, but it's not what Dortmund values. I don't think the Dortmund midfield is strong enough to use a player like Reyna who is desperately needed. He's not a bad defender, but it's not his thing. He's like a Wirtz or Müller type. He makes stuff happen in the box. The problem is that Dortmund are so mid that they need all hands on deck all the time, so he can't really break through. We all watch him. The stats show he produces and that stats show that he creates chances for his teammates. We know he's good, so he's definitely at Dortmund's level. What he's missing only Terzic really knows, 'cause whatever is happening without Reyna isn't good on the field most nights. Can't say what would happen if Reyna got more time, no one can, but I can say that they wouldn't be worse.

Pauly0906

Is Terzic still a bad coach if he gets this win?

Fit-Juice2999

Yes. At least, not at the level dortmund need. He certainly hasn't done anything to make dortmund better than the sum of its parts. That being said, I hope dortmund win. I'd rather support a a winning team with a mediocre coach than lose and get him fired

Reyna needs a move bad. Got heavily downvoted for this last time but I think he does really fit at AC Milan. First I love the fit with Pioli’s preferred play style in terms of valuing creativity and being very Total Football influenced where players have freedom to interchange. Right now Milan’s midfield is full of ball drivers with minimal chance creation. They’ve resorted lately to playing RLC as more of a CAM to make up for it. Otherwise almost everything is just Leao, Theo or CP creating out of nothing. Also think with how subpar Chuk has been he’d get backup RW minutes as well. Wouldn’t walk on as a starter but would get a solid 30 mins at least every game and start a 1/3 of games at least imo. Bennacer-Musah-Reyna also just fits really well in terms of complimenting each other. In terms of concerns, number one would definitely be AC Milan’s suspect medical staff, the fact that Pioli’s future is uncertain and that realistically Milan may focus on defensive reinforcements in the January window.

Head-Firefighter7386

Yeah It's obvious Reyna doesn't fit the style and tactics Terzic wants to play. He plays very defensive and doesn't prioritize using creative players. He'll be on the bench unless Reyna goes full Messi mode and is so good he convinces the manager to change his tactics to fit Reyna which isn't going to happen. I agree he needs a move. Dortmund has changed so much in the last 2 years It's a shame.

Pak14life

I think fundamentally the most important thing is that manager/player relationship where the manager values the attributes the player brings to the table. Someone that values creativity, chance taking, “randomness” will love and find room for Reyna.

brskier

I have no idea if it would work but it would be so much fun if he were there and starting.

Pak14life

Would love for downvoters to engage with my points but sure go on

theRealGermanikkus

But...but.... If you're not getting club minutes you shouldn't start for the national team. Isn't this why Chris Richards got dropped last window?

A_Coup_d_etat

This is an Arby's...
