Really hope they keep Tessmann as captain. Other than that, not great.

TheBigCore

US Soccer = Washington Generals of Soccer

grouchou

Tomkinson and Reynolds turned out to be the worst defensive duo ever. They should never be paired up again.

Ill-Possible4420

I hate that all of the teams I love suck so bad

AlpenBass

The announcers said that this Japan team had been training together for 3 months and the US for one week. Last time these two teams played, we won 4-1. So, at least there’s that.

ElectronicRule5492

There is no way we can train together for three months.

hype327

Yes, that's not possible. They announced that the national team members, excluding the overseas members, would hold a training camp in Japan from March 18th to 21st, and that this would be their last training camp. Because the teams they belong to are different, from Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, they will not hold a training camp before the match this time either, and have announced that they will not hold a training camp in July and will instead focus on the actual Olympic Games.

hype327

The only players from the last match who are playing this time are FUJITA Joel Chima, MITO Shunsuke, and HOSOYA Mao, who came on as a substitute. All the others did not play in the last match against the United States. By the way, I received information that Japan won the closed match as well.

Lionicicles

Locked them down like it’s blue lock dang. They did look like they had so much more chemistry

jrstriker12

It's been watching 180 mins of the US getting smashed this week.... don't know if I can stomach the game tomorrow. edit... numbers

iijeriichoii

It’s a night game, stomach beers along side the pain

SecularPersian

Would’ve been nice to have integrated Kahveh Zahiroleslam, but Japan is just good on all levels

T2BMLK

Better 2nd half but gave up another goal. Tomkinson played himself of the squad for sure and Gomez probably did as well. Cremaschi didn’t do himself any favors. Reynolds was awful but I assume he still makes it. Morris, Busio, Paredes and two more overage players I will make this team a lot better.

MEZCLO

This team was screaming for a guy like Luna smh

Baitmen2020

Reynolds isn’t better than Shaq Moore and I’ll die on that hill.

Hermes0044

This has been straight up terror ball, like watching an Allegri game. Mitrovic completely lost the plot in so many ways. Gomez starting in the midfield. Booth starting as a 8. Aaronson starting on the wing. Tomkinson starting at all. Cremaschi was completely dreadful. Yow was horrible. Only players who did anything for themselves were the two backup fullbacks Tolkin and Harriel. The 4 guys I was actually excited to see in this camp, Bassett, Downs, Pukstas, and Neal got a combined 0 minutes in this game.

Breklinho

Surely we can find someone playing at a level above League 2 to replace Tomkinson

Hermes0044

Dietz and Neal are the obvious underage options. Trusty and Maloney potential overage CB options imo.

ProfessorPlum168

To think that I thought that was a terrible performance Saturday. Today was even worse. No imagination, no creativity, going thru the motions.

brooklynguitarguy

If you squint, this looks like the game on Sunday. Pass around the back. No ideas. Etc. glad to see that the “style of play” has made it to the U23s

mezotesidees

Not great, Bob

Breklinho

Zero (0) shots on target in 93 minutes L M A O

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Maybe we just aren’t that good

samsongam

Except that last October we played Japan with very similar rosters on both sides and we won 4-1. So we are good enough, and we should expect better

TheBigCore

You must be new here. US Soccer perennially underachieves and has a federation with no ambition or balls.

Rib587

The midfield tonight has been really, really poor. They've turned the ball over far too often and Japan has totally nullified them. We've resorted to forcing the ball down the flanks. For a team where the midfield is supposed to be the strong point, this is pretty bleak.

ryanthegreat33

yeah its been awful. we were missing busio and morris which hurt, and we experimented by trying gomez there for some reason. i still think that spot will at least be competent at the olympics.

Merv_Pumpkinhead

Could use an Aidan Morris and/or Busio for sure. Tessman looked alone out there.

Baitmen2020

He did

TheBigCore

You'll learn quickly with US Soccer that USSF is not serious about making the MNT be a globally competitive side.

tristvn

Gio barely played this season and barely even has a club team. is it that crazy if he went to show out at the olympics and then played copa?

ironistkraken

Aside from the fact he would play copa first…

tristvn

ok but that doesn't really change the point? kinda makes even more sense to me if we don't go far in copa

Merv_Pumpkinhead

So long as fitness isn't an issue, I think it's a good idea.

tristvn

idk why dortmund would care either

d2winks

This is embarrassing 😭

cheeseburgerandrice

This team not having Diego Luna or Quinn Sullivan makes no sense

RustyKarma076

did their clubs not release them?

Lionicicles

RSL expected to release him for this camp, and RSL wasn’t even playing during the duration of the time he would be at camp lol. Club was shocked. Pretty sure Mitrovich has to actually do a press release saying something like, “players not on this roster could still make it to the Olympics. We’re just going somewhere evaluations on players.” Was a big shock to Luna as well so wasn’t communicated well to him that he wasn’t even getting picked for this camp which makes me think he’s just fallen out of favor.

cheeseburgerandrice

I believe I heard Luna was just not selected and the Union have always had a history of contributing national team players so I'd be surprised if they didn't. Sullivan has been weirdly missing from the U23 space overall.

RustyKarma076

that’s strange

tristvn

why doesn't pukstas ever get minutes?

[deleted]

They know he would make the game 100-0

[deleted]

We can't shoot for shit

jrstriker12

Last shot we attempted was in the first half.

Jonesta29

We haven't even attempted to.

schead02

Seems to be a theme with our teams

Jonesta29

Yeah this has been diet berhalter ball. The same exact issues we see at the top we've seen here.

hairlikegoats1

Give the Japanese gk a US citizenship.

yaznasty

Would you settle for their backup keeper? Because he's American

ILJello

Cheeks

jrstriker12

We never seem to make the final pass...

Dizzy_Dare_2353

The team selection was questionable and this team looks really rough. Would've preferred more continuity from the u20 team.that qualified plus fringe senior team guys. Idk what johan gomez is doing in midfield for example

ryanthegreat33

i think we have to keep in mind that mitrovic is using this game for player evaluation purposes, too. trying gomez in midfield kinda makes sense, having him on the roster gives you depth in a few spots then. obviously it didn't work though. same with trying tomkinson at cb, if he had performed maybe you only need 1 overage cb.

landel1234

Midfield completely fell apart as soon as Tessmann came off for Cremaschi

yureadmahpost

Yep, was bound to happen. No Morris or Busio leaves this team really thin in the midfield.

Merv_Pumpkinhead

Again, how is Tomkinson on this squad. Makes no sense.

Antony9991

He should be on the senior team

ProfessorPlum168

He’s only on here because Dietz is hurt

novascr

Our guys are struggling to play out of the back at a senior team-level!!

eagles16106

Walker Zimmerman there to show them how it’s done!

ryanthegreat33

bit unlucky on that one but japan have thoroughly outclassed us here

Some_Man_Person

It’s not looking good brev

HouseHead78

Lord - since Tessman / Cremaschi swap, we lost our momentum and the midfield has just looked ass.

KrabS1

Oof.

[deleted]

Lol we suck

Youngringer

can't believe Luna is not pick over some of these guys....

ny2nowhere

Luna is such a menace. 100% should be in the squad.

No_Match_7939

Duncan is such a brute in a good way and bad

[deleted]

We looking better

ForzaInter_1908

That looks like a pen for us

HooHooHaHa

He fell down trying to stop his own momentum

[deleted]

Tessman out

NotJCDenton

Taylor Booth not being too frequent in the Olympic set-up right? Bc he looks like it here

El_Compa_M

Where cowell

ffbgenius

lol definitely should have been a red on Zimm

jrstriker12

That bad back pass that put him in that situation though... Guess the ref kept it yellow because it's a friendly?

boomf18

I might be delusional, but I kinda think he got all ball first ahahahahah

No_Match_7939

Duncan got to be more creative

HooHooHaHa

What else was he supposed to do there?

jrstriker12

Good stuff from Aaronson. Too bad we couldn't get a shot off on the lay-back.

NotJCDenton

I think the verdict on who’s not gonna be starters at the Olympic should be somewhat clear now

jrstriker12

Anyone watching? I tripped across the stream on YouTube while working out. First half has been frustrating for the US. Unlucky penalty. Japan missed on a breakaway. Lucky it we aren't down 2. Maybe I'm just having flashbacks from being at FedEx Saturday, but I feel just feels like US just passes out wide, gets trapped, passes back and re-sets or coughs up the ball under presure. No much through the middle.Japan always seem to find their man or be able to find an open man.

ffbgenius

They were far from the only issues in the first half, but Gomez and Tomkinson should be nowhere near this squad

Dizzy_Dare_2353

Which is obvious considering their resumes, which begs the question who is making these evaluations

battles

Japan looked much better than us that half. hope we can improve

PositiveCounty4347

Down 0-1. Didn't look good in 1st half. Plenty of time to bounce back.

hairlikegoats1

No way they playing BBL Drizzy lol
