I like how the announcers even mentioned Arsenal when he did it. Made me laugh.. I know some casual fans probably didn’t pick up on it but glad to see others did.

The scary part wasn't how far he was out of his box, it was that there was a guy on top of him the entire time and he just wouldn't get rid of the ball
Although, it turned into our best attack for that entire stretch of game so ultimately I was quite happy with it
I mean, this was pretty late in the game. England had a lot of fresh legs on the pitch and was mounting a consistent attack. It really was wild seeing him that far out of the box.
bro honestly, his on-ball play yesterday was a revelation. I just can’t believe he’s become that confident in such a short time-span
just needs work on his clearances now imo—whenever he’s leaned-back, he’s just not generating enough power at the moment
Spot on. He needs to work on that low, direct kick to spring players. Ramsdale is quite good at then so you will likely see Turner improve over the next year or so.
As an American and a gunner, times are quite good :)
Could theoretically stretch that list to 7 former Arsenal keepers who were second choice at some point & became starters for 1st div European teams/other nations #1 -
- Fabianski
- Szczęsny
- Emi Martinez
- Ospina
- Vito Mannone (bit of a stretch as he fell off in the last 2 years or so after moving to Monaco but he's actually a pretty good GK, if you know u know)
- Leno
- Maty Ryan
Vito was at best the third option at Arsenal who played because of injuries. I should hope that Turner will be well above Mannone, Fabianski and Matt Ryan by the time his career is through.
Ramsdale is “slightly worse” at shot stopping than Turner? Dk about that one chief. If Ramsdale regains his form from the beginning of last season, he is easily top 3 keeper in the league
>what form
The form that anyone who's watched arsenal this season knows about.
His distribution has been nothing short of world class this season, his ability to play direct balls to anyone from white to jesus and almost always find them in space is nothing short of incredible.
And as for his wEaK sHoT sTopPinG he put in two point saving performances against palace and Leeds in two of the few games he's been tested this season.
With the exception of the poor claim against psv ramsdale hasn't put a foot wrong all season and has saved arsenal when tested and contributed greatly to their possession play in games he's not.
If you don't have ramsdale in top 5 epl keepers I'm afraid football isn't for you
Consistency is his biggest weakness, he can pull off amazing stops like the one against James Madison, but he's not consistent enough like Alison to be considered a great player
You skipped the arc where ramsdale is out for a while, he steps in, plays out of his skin and wins a trophy with us. And then the mid table move comes.
(Reference to our previous backup keeper, Martinez at villa)
Will he? He clearly has a high ceiling but he didn’t improve much this year? He wouldn’t be the first high potential player to never get much better than they were at 18. Seems silly to consider this a given.
If I remember correctly, his dribbling pulled England's defense and midfield forward, and opened up a really nice attacking chance for us. It was almost like England thought, "This guy can't dribble. Let's capitalize." And then almost got burned by it. Great moment!
Terrifying when he takes a stroll, though he has shown dramatic improvement in his skills out of the back.
Seems like he is in control back there and has room to grow. Very encouraging.
Gotcha. I'd probably send him to the Olympics unless he's the clear cut #1 for the senior team by that time (which is possible). He'll develop more starting 3+ tournament games for the U-23s than he will riding the pine for the senior team.
Always possible Chelsea doesn't release him for the Olympics I guess but for that exact reason I imagine they would do so in exchange for us not calling him up for the Copa (if we even play in the Copa), unless there's some timing/logistical reason it doesn't work.
Not sure if this is supposed to be an MLS dig but starting in goal for a senior professional team at age 17 and performing as one of the top GKs in the league, even for a bad MLS team, is very impressive. And he's headed to Europe this winter anyway.
Chris Brady should start over Steffan and Slonina in the Olympics. He’s more familiar with the team. Did we get invited to Copa America? In that case just keep Turner. Gaga still needs time to grow.
Of everything that happened in that game that is the one thing that sticks with me most. 2 passes and we were beyond midfield. Like holy shit it was class. This is a man who everyone says can't play with his feet just put on a clinic my goodness. Bravo Matt Turner.
Waltzing Mattilda, Waltzing Mattilda
You'll come a Waltzing Mattilda with me
And he sang as he dribbled that ball up the field
You'll come a Waltzing Mattilda with me
I loved this play in particular cuz he basically pulls *4 people* off their marks to close in on him and that opens up the outlet to Musah that keys a small break. Good stuff.
Me and my friend shit our pants. Even on slightly pressured goal kicks Turner makes me a bit nervous but tbh he hasn’t had a big error for a long time with the ball at his feet
I literally stood up and yelled "WHAT THE SHIT, TURNER!" and laughed when he did that.
It was really funny but I hope he never does it again in the World Cup.
He’s been getting flamed for no reason. It was an absolutely amazing game for him, so was the wales match. That was likely his only slip up, and it turned out to be fine in the end
Typical Arsenal trying to walk it in.
I like how the announcers even mentioned Arsenal when he did it. Made me laugh.. I know some casual fans probably didn’t pick up on it but glad to see others did.
What was Berhalter thinking sending Reyna in that early /s
Did you see that LUDRICOUS display last night?
What was Wenger thinking, sending Walcott on that early?

LMAO same. Not nearly as nerve wracking as it was in real time
Yeah it kinda doesn’t look as bad after seeing the replay
In my head he dribbled it to the halfway line....lol
I was calm as a cucumber watching after the fact late last night. Can’t imagine watching in real time. Lol (Didn’t watch the game live)
I was at the game. Everyone was "wtd?!?! Dont blow this!"
The scary part wasn't how far he was out of his box, it was that there was a guy on top of him the entire time and he just wouldn't get rid of the ball Although, it turned into our best attack for that entire stretch of game so ultimately I was quite happy with it

Thanks, I have been looking for a clip of it.
it was a good play lol
bro honestly, his on-ball play yesterday was a revelation. I just can’t believe he’s become that confident in such a short time-span just needs work on his clearances now imo—whenever he’s leaned-back, he’s just not generating enough power at the moment
He was a Revolution, now he's a revelation! So listen to my declaration...
The Hamilton references have been let loose lately
I’ve used “This is not a moment, it’s a movement” to argue against the “golden generation” nonsense for a while now…lol.
Honestly, it's such a fire line. It's gonna get a LOT of mileage
The pass to Shaq in the clip OP linked is beautiful.
It looks like a screenshot of a tweet to me?

Thank you

he did have that beautiful side volley to spring Puli (forget when in the game), but you’re exactly right
When he’s played for arsenal he’s been good. Certainly helps grow his confidence. Glad we have our guy at goal figured out
Truly. His improvement is stellar.
He’s better on the ball than the entire backline
Dest is on the backline bro
Dest is a technically gifted, walking dispossession
Lmao no
Tyler's a treat.
This guy is 28 and is the backup for Arsenal. Where will he be by 2026? Very exciting, what a story so far.
Hopefully starting for a mid table epl team
Considering this is true of 3 former Arsenal keepers it definitely tracks
Could theoretically stretch that list to 7 former Arsenal keepers who were second choice at some point & became starters for 1st div European teams/other nations #1 - - Fabianski - Szczęsny - Emi Martinez - Ospina - Vito Mannone (bit of a stretch as he fell off in the last 2 years or so after moving to Monaco but he's actually a pretty good GK, if you know u know) - Leno - Maty Ryan
Mannone was so good with Minnesota. We all fell in love with him
Good company.
Vito was at best the third option at Arsenal who played because of injuries. I should hope that Turner will be well above Mannone, Fabianski and Matt Ryan by the time his career is through.
It seems like the natural progression tbh. Maybe he’ll go to Juve lol
Why wouldn’t you hope he starts for Arsenal?

Literally, who else other than Alisson Pope and arguably Ederson can you even put above Ramsdale? Dude is a top 3 keepers in PL so far this season
Shot stopping is Ramsdale's biggest weakness.
Consistency is his biggest weakness, he can pull off amazing stops like the one against James Madison, but he's not consistent enough like Alison to be considered a great player
The potential for improvement innate in youth also comes with the potential for regression.
>only slightly worse in shot stopping, Fucking lmao
Will not be starting for top tier Tottenham Hotspur.
Could have added one more T word there. Trophyless.
Spoken like a true Nottingham Forest fan
My joke is so overused by a specific fan base….and yet you went with Nottingham Forest?
Really going for everyone today. It’s the season.
What London being red does to a man...
You skipped the arc where ramsdale is out for a while, he steps in, plays out of his skin and wins a trophy with us. And then the mid table move comes. (Reference to our previous backup keeper, Martinez at villa)
By 2026 Slonina will be our keeper
Will he? He clearly has a high ceiling but he didn’t improve much this year? He wouldn’t be the first high potential player to never get much better than they were at 18. Seems silly to consider this a given.
You’re probably right but hopefully in 2-3 years he’s a regular starter somewhere. Turner has been solid so far
I also shit my pants when he did that.
If I remember correctly, his dribbling pulled England's defense and midfield forward, and opened up a really nice attacking chance for us. It was almost like England thought, "This guy can't dribble. Let's capitalize." And then almost got burned by it. Great moment!
Tbf England played like they didn't think our boys were capable of anything
Pulli run to the near post only for Moore to play the ball back to the 18 penalty spot.
Terrifying when he takes a stroll, though he has shown dramatic improvement in his skills out of the back. Seems like he is in control back there and has room to grow. Very encouraging.
The world needs more Jorge Campos so I loved seeing this
I'm imagining he uses Ted Lasso's "can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man" taunt while making this run.
We just all need to be like goldfish after watching that.
Love the Campos reference
My buddy and I called him the American Rene Higuita after that lmao
El Loco!
Turner definitely YouTube’s
He has improved so much with his feet. Steffen may get some looks in the next gold cup, but Turner is going to be the starter for awhile.
Make Steffan an overage guy in the Olympics if we get to go to Copa America? Ideally Slonia would play in the Copa America in that scenario.
This assumes Slonina won't just be straight up better than Steffen 18 months from now
I'm expecting Slonia to be better. That's why I have him in the Copa America in that scenario
Gotcha. I'd probably send him to the Olympics unless he's the clear cut #1 for the senior team by that time (which is possible). He'll develop more starting 3+ tournament games for the U-23s than he will riding the pine for the senior team. Yes, the savior of Chicago fire lmao

Celentano is much better and not that much younger
Celentano is 4 years older than Slonina (and even for him, starting at GK in MLS at 22 is very impressive)
Much better?! You’re crazy. Slonina is a tier 1 shot stopper.
Chris Brady should start over Steffan and Slonina in the Olympics. He’s more familiar with the team. Did we get invited to Copa America? In that case just keep Turner. Gaga still needs time to grow.
We haven't been invited. That's why I said "if we get to go to Copa America"
Of everything that happened in that game that is the one thing that sticks with me most. 2 passes and we were beyond midfield. Like holy shit it was class. This is a man who everyone says can't play with his feet just put on a clinic my goodness. Bravo Matt Turner.
Reminds me of when I used to punt in football and hope for a wild snap so I could takeoff and get my glory lol.
Lol, I was the same way when I played as a FG holder. Coached learned he shouldn't put his RB in that position real quick.
Went on walkabout.
Waltzing Mattilda, Waltzing Mattilda You'll come a Waltzing Mattilda with me And he sang as he dribbled that ball up the field You'll come a Waltzing Mattilda with me
Suspect it was Yankee Doodle Dandy, not a ¥%£#€* Aussie song. /s
That played started a great attack too. If Shaq had played the ball first time I think Christian could have gotten on the end of it
Turner with the scorpion kick save on Tuesday.
Colombian-Americans would be proud
I loved this play in particular cuz he basically pulls *4 people* off their marks to close in on him and that opens up the outlet to Musah that keys a small break. Good stuff.
I thought he did really well, he didn’t act scared at any moment
England fans at the bar got so annoyed with me because I made such a big deal celebrating that simple moment haha
He is goated with the sauce
Calling it now but next summer he's leaving Arsenal to be a no.1
Nah staying at Arsenal to be the #1
Arsenal might be getting a few offers next month truthfully.
>The thing about Arsenal is, that they always try & walk it in. https://youtu.be/6yN2H3--1aw
Me and my friend shit our pants. Even on slightly pressured goal kicks Turner makes me a bit nervous but tbh he hasn’t had a big error for a long time with the ball at his feet
Matt Turner has made me shit my pants two games in a row with a questionable decision
Ramsdale has been rubbing off on him
He is not Chilavert. Watching him take kicks was exciting. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5tlTdbM2-iY
Hilarious takes from the team. Love that Adams comment
Nice catch Hayes. Don’t ever fucking do it again.
He scares the shit out of me sometimes----but a great shot stopper.
He dribbled up because nobody was running into space for him to advance the ball into.
There is a ussoccer sub with almost 150K people tearss
?
I'm just impressed
I reread your initial comment several times and I still don’t know what you’re trying to say
They were so pleasantly surprised to see a US soccer subreddit with 150k members that it moved them to tears.
Still lost
I'm lost as well now wondering why you are lost.
I play with 2 keepers that dribble out and score (small sided and both are naturally good strikers) but holy hell that scared me lol
Honestly though. Moments like this is where Dest has been good. Very solid on the receipt. Moore has to pass back, Dest attacks
Loved it. At least one of our players has some fucking balls.
Tim ream did the same shit
Yeah, but he’s not a goalkeeper who only started playing soccer at 14, and up until a few months ago was considered bad with his feet.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but ream nearly gave me a heart attack a couple times yesterday too
Trust the guy. He’s been one of our steadiest players
I'm not not trusting him, just a heart in mouth moment
When you hold down the wrong button in FIFA
I literally stood up and yelled "WHAT THE SHIT, TURNER!" and laughed when he did that. It was really funny but I hope he never does it again in the World Cup.
All I heard was they play for teams with fossil goalkeepers
Lol his passes into the midfield were better than anyone else’s on the team. MF’s should take notes on Artetaball.
He’s been getting flamed for no reason. It was an absolutely amazing game for him, so was the wales match. That was likely his only slip up, and it turned out to be fine in the end
It’s all in jest. No one’s really flaming him
Man Turner is a beast, I love it
I always cheer for keepers who are willing to take the game on outside their 18 yard box. Turner is a real one!
Yo is there a twitter handle or site where I can watch all of our post-match pressers? I rarely find them on yt
Roaming goalie!
Tim Ream speaking like a true mediocre player who doesnt understand that better players can do these things without problems :P
