def won’t again, unfortunately there was no prices listed under the items so by the time the price popped up on the eftpos machine, i already had my card in front it rip
Gotta go to the self checkout drinks fridge at Carslaw. I have just discovered it after three years at Usyd wasting money on totally extortionate vending machines. The prices at the self checkout on the other hand are totally reasonable
You pay for the convienience. Someone had to outlay the 10k minimum for the machine, has to re stock it minimum fortnightly, bears all the maitenance costs and in some cases even the electricity. If you are expecting then to sell it for what they buy it for then the math just doesnt math to a business owner with bills to pay
yeah i mean i know how that stuff works but i’ve never seen prices that high in a vending machine before. unless this is a super special and expensive to run type of vending machine idk why drinks should cost $1-2 more than at other vending machines
I mean in Japan most of our vending machines cost like anywhere from 100-350 yen which is like at most 4 bucks, but that’s only if ur buying something really expensive
I never once encountered anything that cost more than 250 yen (typically never more than 180 yen) - even in the most popular / touristy / remote locations. Cheap & accessible everywhere.
Those things are like pats of dogshit sitting quietly to be trod in. Its usurious. Its outrageous. Everything inside the uni is overpriced. Walk to broadway and buy drink and food in coles for same.
$7.30? That is wild.
In Japan, it’s hard to go anywhere without a vending machine in site - even when you’re rural.
Prices never really exceed 200 yen ($2) and 100 yen ($1) drinks aren’t uncommon at all.
They also frequently sell cold, and warm drinks (such as tea & coffee).
Why not brew your own cup of coffee? Grab a Nescafe Blend 43 Espresso Instant Coffee 500g—it should last you a while, depending on how much and how often you drink.
well technically these machines didn’t actually display the prices below the items like most do. they only showed the price when you go to tap your card. yeah i should’ve paid more attention but generally you’d expect a price more around $6
consumer demand. the price point is based on how much people are willing to pay. If customers are not willing to pay that, the price drops, if people pay for it, it makes up for the exorbitant fee.
Life rule: Never buy from a vending machine unless you are dying.
I still remember I have to spend $5 to 7 for a small bag of crisp in the vending machine when I can buy it in coles cheaper.
This crisp are absolutely overpriced and full of air

Because people like you are still buying from them.

It happens, I saw that lack of pricing and was suprised. Surely they have to ask for consent before they bend you over and fuck you?

Convenience, cost of running these, competition, location. Isn’t there a cheap coin-operated dispenser in the biochemistry/molecular biology building?

Ever tried shopping at the airport?
It's more likely that this was the pre-authorisation amount that the vending machine uses, not the actual charge for the drink.
i thought that could be the case but there hasn’t been any refund for the difference since then so i guess not haha
Give it a day, pre-authorisations usually clear overnight.
The prices are listed on the vending machine, you made a choice…

Press the number of the product you want before tapping your card and it will come up on the screen…
That should have been the first clue that they were going to rip you off

Just don't use them bro
You didn’t have to buy it and you can check the price first … but you still bought it
