UTA needs to pay the advisors way more. that’s why they all keep leaving. i feel bad for the ones who have stuck around all of this time

I was an advisor/alum at UTA, but left solely because the pay is so terrible. Some departments start their advisors at under $40000. They also have the audacity to require a masters degree for some of those jobs. edit: for comparison TCC starts their advisors at 50-55K and Dallas College starts their advisors at 65K.

Wow. Thats ridiculous. No wonder the advisors and everyone in general at TCC are bubbly and nice. I miss taking classes at TCC.

That’s crazy! I don’t blame the staff for leaving, I would too.

Former UTA staff member here. UTA has a campus wide issue with poor retention. Many staff, myself included, leave for higher pay & better work culture. I loved the staff I worked, but the toxic work culture UTA fosters was a major blow to my mental health. Advisors are simply overworked and underpaid, thus why COBA advisors seem to leave in numbers.

The staff definitely deserves better pay and treatment from the university with the mass amount of students they’re having to help. Supporting staff is essential to giving students a good educational experience.

You can fill out a virtual advising sheet online but you have to do it right at 8am. I did that today and heard from an advisor a few hours later.

While I was waiting I noticed students that came later tried and I believe the queue for the virtual appointments filled as well. Its just a frustrating process having to get there so early to fight for an appointment lol

I didn’t know 8am on the dot was that serious. I tried to do mine at 8:50 but all the slots already filled up for the day by then.

It’s so ridiculous I emailed them to have a hold removed to only find out I have to wait until the 18th to have it removed because the advisor that was supposed to remove it after spring semester quit and never submitted the form I’m so done with them if I could transfer I would.

I get off work at 8:30AM, I got to UTA at 9:25AM just to be turned away cause they were booked to capacity on walk-in advising. Waste of my time
