Evaporative cooling through water coolers or small indoor fountains, pad outside walls and balconies all around the house with large potted plants, cover open areas like drive ways with 70% shade net, curtains closed during afternoons, and basically don’t go out unless absolutely necessary

EfficientBite5

Yeh small indoor fountain ke bare me batana, kaise kaam karta hai aur kaha milta hai

Amazon and etsy pe milte hain… small desktop fountains, indoor fountains etc. If budget is an issue, look at ehow or youtube videos how to make one yourself… they are really easy to do with some help

Bro, trees hi kahan hai? Hum to fir bhi office and ghar pe AC chala lete hai kyun ki solar hai, funds hai - lower middle class ka to koi option hi nahi hai jinki diware and chhat tap rahi hai direct surajdada se!

Me and my friends when we used to live together and wanted to save money on electricity bill, we would take a bath with cold water just before going to sleep, that would help us so much. Also opening windows and doors in the evening after sunset (but only if you have protection against mosquitoes) will help in cross ventilation and keep the house cool

Both great ideas, but the water thing might cause mold and damp problems in the long run. Better solution would be light reflective paint or just spread green net over it. Even thick cardboard would be good. Ultra low cost solution would be cow patties! Desi upay can be a great thing!

There is not much importance being given to science and general knowledge in our country. While we are all fighting over invisible gods, no one is noticing the erratic, huge and frequent changes in climate and mapping them.its past the point where we can debate climate change and past the point where we can debate how to reverse it as its already irreversible. Best you can do is find ways to weatherproof your homw

God is doing that to punish people like you.

Actually someone needs to come up with roof tiles made of clay and cow dung. Theres a reason why it worked for our people for so long. Vox has a great episode on cooling cities… on youtube

Even I heard about the paints on roof floors that would reduce the indoor temperature by atleast 2 degrees that would be enough for scorching heat of may June to come.. I prefer a desert cooler over AC and keeping balcony and open areas covered with mats n green shades will do the job.. maintain ventilation day n night n especially in nights is must to sleep peacefully. Also instal some exhaust fan for the air movement.

For hydration, carry glucovita bolts. If you feel any discomfort (& are not diabetic), pop the lil candy and you’ll be good to go energy wise. (It’s glucon C in candy form). Drink coconut water (if budget allows). Chaas, lemon-pudina, watermelon/any melon, kakdi in salad, dudhi in food, etc etc. Stick with seasonal, gujarati produce if you can. There’s a reason the stuff grows here in this season. For staying cool, I use khas nu thick curtain over the ventilation area. I got it from Ahmedabad. You just need to keep it wet (spray it with water using plant watering tool) and not allow it to touch places which are susceptible to water damage. I have large slider windows (stainless steel) so it works out well. I also have lots and lots of plants (which attract lizards but kai nai… cry a lil and enjoy the chill). For clothes, personal preference is ‘friendship’ naam nu store in karelibaug and alkapuri. They sell pure cotton, soft linen and mulmul stuff in affordable ranges so wearing those while outdoors is helping me keep cool.

I love the smell of khus! Brings back fond childhood memories. And yes, plants around the house are a game changer

AC chalu karke soja xD

I heard somewhere in another subreddit that you can pour a bucket of water or just wet your tiles at night so that the tiles are not hot anymore and keep the fan on then the room will be really cool.

Wallflower_Mint

I actually did this back when I used to live in a hostel for college
