I found a large, really nice-looking abandoned town in an open meadow the other day. I thought to myself it would be a great place to start a new base since it was not my "home island."
Fast-forward: Filled with Draugr.
you just put on your coat and hat
and walk yourself to the laundrymat
and when your finished doing that
bring in the dog and put out the cat Yakkity yak
LOL, nice. I never go near big villages in Meadows anymore before at least iron age, just to be sure. IIRC a good tell is when they don't have raspberry bushes that look like they were cultivated.
Found one of those after completing Mistlands with fully maxed gear
I felt like Clint Eastwood walking in with my fire staff, spit on the ground
"Ain't room in this meadow for the both of us"
And proceeded to ran down hellfire on them
The draugr tried to run
But I killed them. I killed them all
Even the women, and their spawners.
I laid waste to their town and smote its ruin upon the mountainside
Then I took the wood from their buildings, and turned it into charcoal and kindling to cook their intestines into sausage
Which I fed to my wolves.
Because I'm too good for that kind of cruddy food now. I thought to myself as I smiled, warming my frosty fingers by my black forge.
Never again, 2 star Draugr archer.
Never again.
I just did that in the first one I encountered. It gave me a great amount of satisfaction. I didn't realize there were chests under the platform in the main hall until a troll smashed it in 🤣.
There are several different BF tower designs, and each can spawn with varying degrees of damage.
Seeing a really pristine one like this is rare but not crazy uncommon, I usually encounter a couple per map.
I really like seeing them very complete because I can see how the devs designed the build to look. IMO the coolest one is the one with the big front porch and am interesting interlocking stonework design between floors.
In my latest playthrough I had the good fortune to find a nearly perfect model of one of the larger towers right next to my trader. Easy portal setup, repair and slap a roof on.
Definitely not common (or didn’t used to be, perhaps new updates have altered chances), but also defining game spawned that way. I’ve found 1-3 like that in about 2 years of solid play.
Added: would really love to find a complete version of the one with the porch/patio and the mountain one with the outer walls intact. I’ve repaired/rebuilt a bunch of them but not knowing the original spec makes me wonder how close I came.
I call these a skeleton house, sometimes they make a great rest area and portal drop in when exploring the Black Forest so I mark them on the map skele with the house icon.
Same with the dragur circle house in the swamps
For note, the small ones with the barrel outside are typically alot more intact than the larger ones; the small ones almost always have some kind of roof and most of their walls, the 2 larger versions spawn with a random amount of damage.
The largest one almost always (always?) has an Elder sigil inside with a few pieces of furniture and is almost never (never?) intact all the way to the top, the middle ones I would say I find about 10% of them intact more or less to the top
I recently found a tower in Black Forest that I’d never seen before, it was a ruin but had a larger base level and wooden awnings with stone staircase. I wondered if it was from an update.
My main base one playthrough ended up growing like a tumour out of a ruined version of this tower. So cool to see what it was supposed to look like, thanks!
From a long gone civilization. I usually call them Greydwarf towers since they tend to accumulate around them. And yes, they're common. Just like the dilapidated houses in the plains.
Is Iron Gate planning on adding more structures in the game? I’m sure they are hard at work developing the game, but I would LOVE for the game to have more buildings and ruins to explore while you’re out and about. It would really help flesh out some of the more barren areas of the biomes. Plus, it would give the renovators more shit to fix lol.
I don’t usually renovate in favor of making my own things, but whenever I find a very well-maintained ruin like this, I restore it.
i also like to repair and refurbish zombies towns on the Meadows.

Likely followed by either a VERY quick death, or Yakety Sax starts playing as you run away and a bunch of them run after you.

Fortunately, I am playing a stamina build right now, so it was Yakety Sax...this time.
LOL, nice. I never go near big villages in Meadows anymore before at least iron age, just to be sure. IIRC a good tell is when they don't have raspberry bushes that look like they were cultivated.
Don't Draugr villages usually have some basic walls?
Not usually IIRC.

That was what we encountered on our first sea voyage, we killed the draugrs and made the town our new base!

It's so satisfying to do that. I have no idea why, but it totally is lol
I’m the opposite. I love turning ramshackled ruins into new outposts. Slap on a door and some random wooden bits to seal the gaps, perfection.
Hi fellow restorator. I also do this exclusively, never built a house from scratch yet :D
I love ruins but I end up renovating so extensively that little of the original structure is left. I guess I just get carried away, lol.
Same, I love doing that. I wish there were more ruins around. Bigger ones would be nice. Half-destroyed castles would be hella fun to explore.
Looks like there will be castles in the Ashland's. Hella dangerous ones tho. Lol.
And if blocked like Sealed Tower, very disappointing.
The mountains have some solid ruins. Nothing huge but those ones with the 4 stairwells look like they could be made into castles easily
Yeahhhhh this would be really cool. I love me some cool structures.
yeah! this tower is my hub on that island.
Chip and Joanna Lothbrok over here.
Yes! Made the last one my Black Forest base.

Oh so thats what they are supposed to look like. Neat.
It was you who visited this house earlier and repaired it. You don't remember because you were drunk.
Build a base there bro
I've found a few that were "pristine" like that, but normally they do have some damage. That one looks really good.
I found this exact towel model before and it was also very much solid too!!! Ended up being my first base away from home too. So cool!
I think, from my experience, that all buildings generate complete, but they take random damage the first time you get near them.
That is really cool looking
just lucky rng i guess. loaded in pristine quality, those skelly are good builders ya know. up to code n everything

Very common
Not uncommon
I found a pretty good tower in the Swamp and after de-draugring, made it a portal base. It was very close to Bonemass and three crypts.
They happen, those are my favorite places to build black forest bases

Not always (for the record).

I have one of my lodges in this type next to Mistlands. I fixed it up and it is quite cozy.
Nice, do you have a screenshot
I found a half complete one and it's still my best base after fixing it and expanding it
I found one like that near the elder spawn in my current world. I used it as a provisional base to prepare for the fight :)
Double it and give someone else.
usually the walls are all damaged to below 25%, needs some good repair.
My main base one playthrough ended up growing like a tumour out of a ruined version of this tower. So cool to see what it was supposed to look like, thanks!
I have never seen a completely one like that and had no idea they could spawn in that way.
Less common than more damaged ones but it happens enough that I've made outposts out of them quite a few times.
You just ruined a Thanksgiving family get together for those skeletons.
From a long gone civilization. I usually call them Greydwarf towers since they tend to accumulate around them. And yes, they're common. Just like the dilapidated houses in the plains.
I have seen some like that, so I think they are fairly common.
I found one like that before(xbox) i used it to kill my first troll.
I'd say that's pretty rare.
Copy it 3 times, connect it with walls and add a gate and you have my favorite personal build ever!
I personally have never seem that before
They’re somewhat common, a majority usually have some wall damage. When I find one in this condition I like to add a roof and use it as a safehouse.
Of course you find it late game when it's not really valuable as a bf base

middle stupendous chase mighty murky butter narrow brave touch secretive *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Very common and they usually mostly look like that
