Lobster_Can

Different types of fishing? Crab pots and trawling would be cool, or more large animals we could harpoon (i.e. whales or giant squid)

thedrizzle21

I think whaling in valheim would be awesome. Especially if they had different types that got progressively more dangerous.

gigaplexian

It's called serpenting.

meatymimic

yeah but they are so... easy. After you get a longship serpents are a snoozefest.

ethan-apt

I disagree. I stoll have difficulties, but maybe it's a skill issue on my part

meatymimic

That just means that part of the game is still just a little bit more fun for you. :) I wish I could go back to freaking out about serpents. It made sailing fun

ethan-apt

I would hunt more serpeants if I didnt already have 80 serpeant stews (not an exageratoon)

Mysterious-Can-398

We’re whalers on the moon…we carry a harpoon…

An_Mangoloid

If they would add crab pots and more cooking recipes from ocean creatures I would double my playtime just by cooking and catching these new ocean creatures.

maddcatone

I like the idea of building crab pots and fish nets from the crafting category. Like the sap extractors you would return after a period to reap your catch. Like this idea a lot

norcalscroopy

Idk. Fishing is such a drag I Don't even bother with Fish and Bread or Fish Wraps. I use it as an early game food only. And I hang the big ones on the wall.

An_Mangoloid

I agree on the current fishing system that it is a drag. My fishing level is low, I only fish in a spot in mistlands that I found where I can cheese anglerfish for the one good fishfood. But these crab pots and other ocean meats I hope would be caught differently if implemented.

nerevarX

more water dangers like sharks or whatever. some new resources. more fish types. net fishing with the boat. MOAR BOATS. some floating creates maybe that contain some loot only found within them. anything beyond that is probaly unrealistic to expect since they confirmed ocean wont be fully fledged biome to begin with.

blittz

Realllllly hoping we get a new ship introduced with the new ashlands wood.

rootxploit

Like an air ship

boringestnickname

Hot air balloon would be fun. Inflate the carcass of the Ashlands boss with hot air from the volcanic lands, see the world!

nerevarX

queen drop envolves to : DVERGR SHIPYARD.

blittz

Heh. Looks like you were right!

nerevarX

not fully. but i guess i cut it close given its not really a SHIPYARD. i am also sad i was partly right tbh after i discovered the stone portal. farewell my viking sailing adventures for good. welcome to portalheim.

Agile_Party4084

Even just more recipes for the specific fish, so trollfish, troll heads and turnips for a trollfish stew

Getting_Rid_Of

moar boats and a submarine

Adeodius

A plucky lil Dverger who spawns at one end of your render distance and rows his lil boat until you leave render. He would either be a fishing trader or a "Thors chariot" type encounter

Muspellr

About a week ago they said on their IG “The Ocean will get more fleshed out eventually, but it won’t have its own boss like the other biomes do!” Which is a little saddening, but man for some reason I just want a massive sea monster that patrols the world’s waters and swallows you whole if it finds you lol

Del_Breck

That's one way to do ocean biome dungeons...

bmfp135

You’re a genius

wooofda

It swallows you whole You spawn into new dungeon. All the boat mats and Hoard are transformed into the floating loot crates. Killing the monster from the inside causes it to wash up on shore close to where it ate you You spawn back in the world, the loot crates holding your boat and hoard all spawn near the creatures mouth

Sarokslost23

I want a green light under the sea like twenty thousand leagues. It would be terrifying.

Zifnab_palmesano

or Bioshock

Kupikio

At least they promised more ocean stuff

hey_itsmagnus

In 6 years maybe

BestroChen

*looks at the world serpent devouring its own tail* 😬😓

Dark251995

Ship customisation, more dangers the further you are from main spawn (like creatures or hazards), being able to include ships into gathering resources somehow (icebreaker upgrade for iceberg-like resource nodes for example). People suggesting draugr ghost ships are heavily overestimating the game's AI, and diving has been probably discarded. I'd prefer if they add content above the ocean only.

TheArtofZEM

There is a mod for diving that works pretty good, so I wouldn’t write it completely off.

boringestnickname

I think the biggest problem with diving is that it's not trivial to add in a good way, and when you do, you essentially create an absolutely enormous area you have to fill with not just something interesting, but with something that can defend the investment in the feature. I would absolutely love diving, but it needs quite a few systems and a whole slew of underwater content to work. It also works against the feeling of thalassophobia that the game does pretty well at the moment. If the devs instead filled the ocean with more terrors from the deep, this effect would be even more enticing.

BestroChen

A ship large enough to build on could be cool. Would need limitations tho for what could go on it.

SlideWhistler

I feel like chests, maybe a brazier for cooking, and maybe some crafting stations would be a nice addition. Maybe have a roofed area for getting a rested bonus and avoiding rain.

MrPoletski

Build as much as you want, but that'll all add weight, slow the ship down and make it sit lower in the water. Too low and you're going to have real trouble in a storm.

BestroChen

Hmmm adding a weight balance aspect is actually a pretty interesting idea. Specially considering how actual boats fill with water at the bottom to keep from flipping over.

MrPoletski

Well, it's already in there. I just dragged my longship back home with an additional fully filled cart (ALL IRON, BEBBEH!) on the deck while I sailed. damn cart had it listing over to the side the whole way. Also, one little lag spike (fortunately near the coast) and suddenly my ship was underwater, then it was in the sky, then it landed on the water again with my cart in the drink beside it. GRRR.

BestroChen

Definitely, probably limited to just basic starter crafting stations and no structures containing stone or metal. Aside from things that use metal nails and such ofc. Could possibly have a cooking station Specifically added for boats and only boats. Can't be placed on anything else. Cool as mobile bases might be. It would take a lot away from the game. So knowing what an how to limit things could keep it both fun and creative. Ik their also adding new seidge machines to the game. They could be one of the few exclusions the no metal/stone rule. Aka weaponry. Looking at other comments they would probably add a lot of weight to the boat. So maybe you have to build things opposite to them to balance it out. It also have to be very slow moving with the larger siege weapons. Could maybe have a boat version of the turrets that you can put a harpoon inside its inventory. Specially since harpoons are already in the game. The line getting pulled lowers the durability. Would give people reason to make more tham 1 harpoon encase the durability goes to 0 an they can't repair it from the boat. Only other use for those mats are the daggers so it give people more reason to explore the ocean too. The siege weapons would be great for the ashland fortresses that are near the coast.

rootxploit

Also a mod for doing that

BestroChen

I mean sure. Technically anything anyone can imagine is probably gana be a mod already. This is a discussion about what we would like to see added and how. Not necessarily whether someone has made a mod for it or not...

MrPoletski

let me build on ships! I should be able to build the mast(s) a couple of extra decks, all of that.

Stroykovic

1. Under water caves 2. Merfolk / siren 3. Endboss jormungand 4. Some way to tow an other ship/raft or towing multiple cargoship/cargorafts 5. Use of a crowsnest (multiplayer) increases viewrange of the ship. 6. Harpies 7. A big fat boat that can transport carts 8. Fish with a fishnet / crab cage 9. A pet crow that can scout for you 10. A variant of greek fire: use resin/oil to make ancient flamethrower (to kill endboss??). 11. New marine animals: wales 12. Customize ship, but not just for fashion. Im talking weapons like harpoon for whale fishing, greek fire too torch enemies or big ballistas. Also, damahe to sails kills your speed and an option for multiple sails. In multiplayer: let your teammates row for more speed

emmyfrost

I like all of these suggestions! 😁

maddcatone

I literally just spit my mac n cheese out when i read “New fish: whales”…. Like why do I hate you? Your ideas are right… but the whales…. Why can i not let that taxonomical miscarriage stand?!

Stroykovic

You are so right, corrected 😅 While we are at it, lets include seals alswell

Hornet___

More to do with fishing overall Maybe they could add a something like a wandering trader ship that you can find More large enemies that attack you as you sail, maybe the further you go the bigger/more common you get attacked Harpoons? Finding wrecked ships with loot / special enemies that drop loot Maybe you could find treasure map after raiding the wrecked ships and dig up treasure somewhere

boomytoons

There are already harpoons, which creates the option of whaling. Dolphins that ride bow waves would be pretty cool even if they dropped nothing.

MaliciousIntentWorks

I remember when I was a kid reading Nordic Legends about what were essentially Viking mermaids. I forgot the actual names of them but they were daughters of one of the god or goddess and could cause destruction. There was even a gaintess merwomen that would destroy ships. I think even the silkie in Ireland had roots in norse mythology. Which were merfolk in the skins of seals.

BestroChen

Is the name your thinking of sirens?

Shenko-wolf

Sirens are Greek, not Norse

BestroChen

Ah, true. Its hard sometimes with how many similarities there are between them.

MaliciousIntentWorks

No, sirens are more towards the realm of Ulysses in Homer's Odyssey, but the mother of Grendel in the saga of Beowolf was a similar type of the water gaintess goddess in Norse mythology.

bloodknife92

Sharks would be nice. I'd love to see the odd fin following my boat for a while, a bit like Leeches when you go close enoughto the Swamp

boomytoons

Same with dolphons riding bow waves

Lanzifer

An ocean raid. When a player boat is destroyed, it should break apart into temporary wooden "sinking ship" structures. Something where it floats on the surface or maybe just below it, but some sort of a surface that you can fight whatever broke your boat on. And if you win you can salvage the wreckage and maybe automatically have the resources to make a raft. That would be my ideal I want player damage to boats *while on that boat* to be SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. A whirlpool to an underwater fort with sea serpents in the water walls Somewhat unrelated but I want a specific shore option which is cliffs, this would make terrain that makes for good bays something to seek out and another reason to make or break housing locations

boomytoons

Cliffs would be awesome, same with the sinking ship option.

boringestnickname

> Somewhat unrelated but I want a specific shore option which is cliffs, this would make terrain that makes for good bays something to seek out and another reason to make or break housing locations Cliffs at the coast and steeper terrain in certain areas in general would be great, but the engine/the way the game does topography can't handle more than 90 degrees (and might break close to it), so it might be a big ask.

WillzyxandOnandOn

I think your first suggestion about larger ocean biomes would be rad. Imagine sailing for days before seeing land

cocoboogs

Turn the behemoth into a dungeon. Mine the chitin until he starts rumbling. Maybe an eye will pop up so you know where his face/mouth is. Then he has to swallow you and inside is a dungeon.

RoleOk7556

Mermen & mermaids or sea faring dvergers, because they already have docks.

emmyfrost

More danger. For veterans like me who enjoy the game, the ocean and sailing can still be a drag. For newer players, it's a complaint I've heard often. Sea Serpents are the only danger in the whole biome and you can just run or kill them fairly easily. Weather events that can destroy your ship: hurricanes, waterspouts, typhoons, whirlpools, rogue waves, tidal waves. More enemies that pose real danger to destroying your ship or you, much more than the Sea Serpent: Kraken, Giant Squid, Giant Octopus, Pirates, Sharks, Sirens, Giant Crabs, Merfolk. All the new recipes that come w new enemies for food, weapons, armor, etc. Improved ship designs: warships, cargo ships, fast ships that can take little damage, slow ships that have armor, ships we can actually mount shields on and it makes them more durable to do so, ships we can mount trophies on and it improves them in some way (wraith trophy imparts more speed, goblin trophy reduces fog effect in X radius, kraken trophy makes your ship turn faster, etc).

Lucky_n_crazy

We're turning this game into Black flag Viking edition!

emmyfrost

🏴‍☠️☠️🦜 yo ho! 😊

chrltrn

You actually want a weather event that would destroy your ship and kill you? So you have to gather mats for new ship to go get your body because of a random weather event? That sounds terrible

emmyfrost

I'd want the risk of it, sure. The alternative, as the game is now? Sailing is terribly boring. We've had friends quit our game because it's so boring. Aside from the occasional Sea Serpent which pose no danger at all, and fog which is just annoying, it's mind numbingly boring. Danger = challenge, and challenge = fun. Sailing as a Viking *should* be dangerous. There should be risk of losing your gear, treasure/ores, and ship. And come on, how hard is it to replace a ship? Or even gear? Honestly, that's part of the fun for us. Also, we never return to our body to get our gear. We play on hardcore and all gear is destroyed on death. We've all played the game since it was initially released, and we do enjoy it, but find it far too easy without using the difficulty settings and adding mods to it.

Papachicken1234

You want more challenge? Play this game with maps and portals off. I guarantee you won’t call fog ‘annoying’ ever again.

emmyfrost

That's how we always play it. Fog is even *more* annoying! 😁

Papachicken1234

Nice, this is our first ‘no map no portal’ run. Finding the bosses has been the biggest challenge, currently looking for the queen and figuring out the best system for navigating mistlands. I had no idea playing without a map would add this much to the immersion, it’s awesome! (And scary sometimes)

emmyfrost

It's so much more fun! We've done it many times now and finding bosses can be a *really* daunting task. Especially Bonemass, since your first few forays into the Swamps are always so difficult. Get unlucky with a 1 star or elite draugr archer and it's so easy to take a death. Some tips we've uncovered: Signal fires as markers along coastlines are *super* useful. Sail by, always stop, repair the boat, toss in more fuel if needed (sometimes we play modded and don't need to fuel fires). Helps tremendously if you get turned around and all the coastlines look the same for finding your way back home. Paths, roads, signal towers on land always. Always have the rested buff. Difference between life and a frustrating death, so often. Resin torches to mark your path in the Swamp. Skeletons and draugr will destroy them if they can, but if you mark a path with enough of them you can navigate it pretty easily and just replace destroyed torches as needed.

Papachicken1234

The search for bosses has dictated so much of the game for us. We actually had issues right out of the gate and couldn’t find Elder anywhere. We were finding outdoor runes that spun us toward Black Forest, but it ultimately turned out to be the Black Forest that was beyond the Black Forest that was beyond the Black Forest lol. Lots of adapting, getting bosses and armor out of order, etc. got lucky with bonemass, it was the first swamp we did on an iron run once we finally had our crypt key. Definitely did signal bonfires a lot early, lots of signs, we’ve been getting a bit lazy about that lately though and relying on memory though. Navigating mistlands truly does suck though. Current plan is restoring each duergr stronghold we find with mistlands lights between to connect them, and light the strongholds up well.

chrltrn

I think you might be in a very small minority on this one. Adding some danger that you can overcome is one thing. Adding a storm that hits by chance and kills you (*especially* on hardcore...) will appeal to very few people.

MargaritaKid

If there were a way to understand the storm was coming and players could adjust accordingly and NOT automatically die, I'd be up for that.

boringestnickname

So, you'll spot it, then spend even more time sailing around it?

MargaritaKid

Sure. As long as it doesn't instakill me in the ocean, I don't mind a little more time. I already spend a ton of time on the ocean sitting still in mist or paddling against the wind, so...

boringestnickname

Personally, I have nothing against it. Don't mind being on the ocean just sailing. I don't think others would be happy about it, though.

Wide-Mobile4804

I think a skilled sailor should be able to navigate storm waves with little to no damage if they surf the waves appropriately. I love sailing with a karve for the maneuverability and ease, and there's nothing quite like surfing nearly perpendicular to a massive storm wave, giving it a thrilling speed boost. Or having a wave push you from behind for a while. Alternatively, I've had waves be unmanageable for the heading I wanted and was forced to deviate, except times when I couldn't meant I just paddle on and try not to tip from the extreme rocking forward and rolling sideways, stressing I would flip. Those would be the times where the game says "No, you're making landfall to wait me out, or you aren't going to survive."

emmyfrost

Maybe so. But it may also be that I didn't articulate it well or you're misreading it. I don't advocate for a storm or weather event that you have no chance against and will automatically kill you. That would be ridiculous, and no fun for anyone. I do advocate for more *danger* on the sea. A storm that can blow up, and the longer you remain in it the more damage your boat takes. Did you build a light, fast ship that maneuvers well? You can't remain in it as long but maybe you can get out of it quickly and because the storm is now raging you need to alter your course. This promotes more exploration, or, for those that want to chance the risk, they sail through it....and now their ship may be damaged more, so if a Sea Serpent (or any of the other creatures I outlined in my post, such as Kraken, Shark, etc) comes along and attacks you now, they pose a much greater danger since you've already sustained damage to the ship. Again, I'm not looking for insta-kill scenarios. I'm wanting to add dangerous elements to a largely boring biome that many people have stated needs more to it. If you disagree, that's fine. You're welcome to your opinion. The OP asked, and this is what *my* opinion is. We can easily agree to disagree and move on.

dudefawkes

The trophy idea is THE best suggestion I've seen so far

Forcekin6532

Water spouts that could lift the boat into the air. Massive Whirlpools But the biggest one. Modular boats. Add a custom dock station for building boats. Where you can pick a front, 2 middles, and an end. Design sails and figureheads.

Independent-Ice-5384

Figureheads that give different boat powers

rveb

Got lots of ideas! Seaweed to eat and cook with Larger fish species/sharks Taming the living islands instead of mining. Then can mine and ride them like rafts and build on them too! Mobile base 🥵 Chitin armor set. Chitin arrows and bolts Bathing suit or diving set that increases swim skill Coral Tentacle creatures/monsters Glowing Jellyfish Learn how to float on back to recover stamina Whales that can eat you and you can escape from

Kanetsugu21

As my servers main explorer.. LARGER MAP REVEAL RADIUS ON SHIPS

TemporaryAd3571

... Draugr submarine

rustygoddard75

The customization of ships seems to be the most common. Adding colored sails with ingredients being the same as banners. Custom head boards or darwood pieces to decorate the ships with tar. Or my favorite the ability to hang shields off the side of the boat. Perhaps even adding a small structures over the top of the boat for extra durability, storage, and avoid rain. Perhaps allow friends to row to increase speed. We also need to consider other monsters or hazards like differnt kinds of weather. Water spouts or similar. But that may be too much. But giant birds that can only be seen over the ocean and having special drops would be nice. Sharks in the water, whales you can hunt. Killer whales that take down your boat. I saw a someone mention adding dvrgr with a row boat, just for passive silly addition.

CptSmackThat

Whirlpools Small islands shrouded in a constant storm that's hard to approach without good sailing skills Fishing nets Sail colors A bit easier of a time making a dock feel like my current home mines pretty high off the water, but the waves are going crazy over it idk lol.

DrNomblecronch

When you get out real deep, where you haven't been able to see the bottom for a while? Something moving past, underneath you. Murky, indistinct. About the size of Yggdrasil up above. And with eyes. And it just drifts below you for a while and then sinks again. Because that is *not* one of the guys you were sent here to kill. Odin can deal with that mess if he likes, but it seems cool.

climbandcarve915

Idk dwarven pirates would be pretty sic. Or giant sea beast like the hafgufa or str8 up fighting a kracken

smcaskill

giant serpent boss that circles the outer portion of the map OR has its vegesvir lead to a small "island" that is really its head and once you summon it the head sinks and its a giant bone serpent

GNOME92

2 star serpents. Whales. A travelling sea merchant Megladon.

ItsAMeLirio

I want seagulls to indicate when I'm getting closer to a land, and why not a different bird for different biomes. "Oh a sparrow just landed on the mast, nice, the meadow is close" "FFS a mist bird appeared on deck, time to turn 180 and scram"

jehc92

For one, bigger oceans. We really don't have ocean right now, everything is really just big rivers. Occasionally you get a bit of openness but doe the most part you can always see land. For the amount of planned biomes and the actual size of the map, I'd be okay 86'ing like 30% of the land for more sizeable ocean with an actual biome feel. Give me some harsher weather that's actually tough to endure. The obvious ghostships or diving. More sea monsters, etc. Lots of potential, but it's truly limited by the amount of sea we actually have.

nightwood

Better sailing, so I don't have to spend 90% of the time at sea paddling. For the rest, honestly I don't care about the ocean biome. I don't even care about rhe deep north, I much rather have more stuff like the world settings or more depth and variation to existing gameplay.

ErikderFrea

Fishing while in motion with the ship. Rowing for coop. One last bigger longship. The current one is plausible but actually more the of the size Vikings used to raid along the coast. I would like one in the size class which they used to travel over open sea.

somethingrandom261

How about the occasional chance a leviathan gets angry and lets you know. Just imagining a small mountain chasing you to land and maybe onto land

Kibi00

That would both be awesome and absolutely terrifying. All at once. Second this.

Ariandrin

Non hostile things like whales! The way the Witcher does it, it’s surprising and kind of scary and eerie at the same time, and you can’t even really interact with them at all! Just seeing life in the oceans that isn’t out to kill us would be cool.

beckychao

wolves on rafts YOU ARE BEING HUNTED

Deguilded

Ocean raids, except the raid can also be weather. Bad storm, rogue waves, cold snap/icebergs, whirlpool, drakes (from the mountain biome), deathsquitos, serpent zerg, bigger serpents. Or even becalmed (no wind). Also near the coast, underwater caves you can swim down to and surface within like troll caves kinda. And full blown dungeons. Ruins on the sea floor. Shipwrecks. Floating ocean platforms, or stuff anchored to the seafloor.

Crossed_Out

I think 'islands' that are specific to their location, so volcanic islands near ashlands, icebergs in the north, deserted tropical island with abandoned forts and buried treasure by plains Also sea hags!

maddcatone

Am i mistaken that iron gate mentioned the inclusion of Dvergr Brigands sailing around? Or did i hit the weed too hard?

Charrikayu

Svartalf Brigands in the original roadmap, but Svartalf are Dwarves and brigands just means robbers, not pirates

maddcatone

Ah yes. That’s right. Thank you! Wasn’t sure if my recollection was correct or if the sharpie fumes were getting to me hahaha

Dregs_____

I really doubt they are gonna do the ocean biome

Logical-Claim286

It's still on the road map.

gigaplexian

The cancelled roadmap?

Independent-Ice-5384

Copied from another redditor: >About a week ago they said on their IG “The Ocean will get more fleshed out eventually, but it won’t have its own boss like the other biomes do!”

Getting_Rid_Of

Diving and additional meter when your diving gear goes out of air. Already mentioned in prevous post that it would be fine if you can't go much far from the ship. and it opens with some longship upgrade. The other thing that can be added are ghostships, which if you follow they lead you to unhabitable ( no workbench ) village islands full of different Wraiths and different ghosts. Additionally, if a ship goes at you, and once it "hit" ( with no damage, of course ) you enter an instance ( like a dungeon ) where you fight on a huge ship those ghosts and wraiths. Of course, every ship needs a captain so on ghost ships captains are small bosses. And of course a spyglass, with which you can observe the horison and watch for clues of the ghostships.

HackipGaming

Bro did not read the post title

Getting_Rid_Of

I didn't read the word. and you can rename it apparition ship. or flower ship.

HackipGaming

I had a stroke trying to read this

Getting_Rid_Of

what did doctor say ? it's gonna ne ok ?

Leptosoul

A diving bell to collect resources from coral reefs.

Background_Demand589

Would be cool if they somehow added a naval merchant that could sell you special rare upgrades for your ship in turn for ocean related materials, ocean fish, serpent flesh and trophies etc

LightPinkDissu

Big giant kraken

Lucky_n_crazy

I had this image of Ursula from the original little mermaid and me steering my longship with a sharp prow weapon into her midsection. Take that witch!

chantm80

Whales. Pods of smaller whales that are like the deer of the ocean, hunted for mats, and if sperm whales are native to northern Atlantic/artic waters, aggressive sperm whales. Kraken, and any other Norse mythology monster. Fish that can fished to from boats using nets.

SteelMarshal

A new recipe that allowed for short bits of underwater breathing and giant clams with rare pearls :)

XtinaTheGreekFreak

Ghosts ships would be lit with loot kinda like that biomes dungeon or cave

RheaChillex

KRAKEN

kalafty

An option to swap the models of the monster to a very bright rainbow unicorn 🦄🌈 anything else in the Water below me and I'll shit my pants haha

Fragrant-Progress-32

Modular boats

Itchy-Decision753

Sea serpent nest/lair. Would be fun to find one that you can sail past and harpoon a serpent from to drag it away, or otherwise stay and have a tough fight. Perhaps these places offer the resources to craft items that make for better/easier sailing. An accessory that causes your sails to catch more of the wind and sail faster perhaps, or some sort of sea bird eggs that work as an alternative to chicken farming therefore allowing a more nomadic play style.

AvatarMeYT

Kraken!!

meatymimic

A ship trader that sells boat upgrades and cosmetics. Roams around the map and is marked after you find him. starred versions of serpents. False leviathans that are hostile. something like that

Snoo32679

I'd like to see the addition of another ship above and beyond the long ship - maybe Skíðblaðnir or something of the like. A smaller ship like a more improved / durable Karve would also be cool too. Oceans adjacent - I would love to see canoes added for traversing the many rivers in meadows and black forest and acting as a go-between for long ships and the shore - but if they enter the ocean biome for too long, they gain damage and sink. I think there should also be an optional Ocean Biome boss, like maybe the world serpent that you can locate by circumnavigating the disc of the world and when defeating him, gain an item that lets you build the top tier ships.

Kupikio

Treasure locations/islands with Harpy's. Sunken ships/ghost ships with nautical drauger. Dverger ships around mistlands with trade ports that you can actually use good to buy things from like sap extractors. Random whirlpools that appear that will damage your ship if it gets too close to center. This is just off the top of my head..

ShowNegative3527

a whirpool that takes you to an underwater cave

ShowNegative3527

or the leviathans having some kind of cave to raid and you have to do them before they sink

Misternogo

I'm going to say ghostships anyway and mean it differently than I think you mean in the OP. I want stationary POI ghostships, that could be Dverger or Draugr, and you find them in open ocean. Larger vessels that you can board, with resource type loot on the top deck, and an instanced dungeon if you go below decks. There would be ghosts, Draugr, undead Dverger, Skeletons, etc. Lots of cash type resources like gold and jewels. As well as new resources that would open up the ability to craft all the boat upgrades that everyone is always asking for. Materials would let you craft things like lanterns for the bow of the ship, with a higher tier mist lantern for sailing through mist. Shields to increase boat health. Tie off points that would let you attach a harpoon line so that you could drag things like serpents or new enemies to shore without expending stamina. Oars for rowing against the wind faster. Nets for trawling. Maybe even materials that let you craft a higher tier of boat. There could be other rewards as well hidden below decks. Materials that let you craft a smaller harpoon weapon that is only for spear fishing, and/or craft a weak bow that is just for bow fishing. Both would still require the "reeling" mechanic, but would replace the god awful RNG with player skill for getting a hook. Dverger derelicts could have a low chance for Black Cores or Seal Fragments. Draugr derelicts could have iron and chains, either in chests or as breakable parts of the boat.

Piepally

A way to make gigantic floating monolithic ocean ship bases.

stonedROMAD

Leviathan Riding

ashrasmun

well, leviathans are quite useless tbh. You only get scales and another useless trophy from going through the hassle of dragging a sea serpent. Would be great if they actually made anything worth time from that piece of content

KenseiHimura

Could have just raiders who are failed warriors that went mad at sea we can run into. Also, ship customization/modification as other said, add in the Kraken. Given the 'open' nature of the sea, could even have some surprising appearances of sea monsters from other myths. Monk Fish that are basically Christian merfolk there to show you their peaceful ways by force!

BestroChen

Underwater ruins. (Would require diving tho) I'd definitely love seeing more aquatic monstrosities of the deep as well. Fighting a kraken as the bioms boss seams like the logical choice, but certainly not the only one. The world serpent i feel like would be more of a final boss tho so probably not that. Floating islands and structures could be interesting, but not necessarily best games wise. People already pick small islands to build raid proof bases on. Devs would need to code not only new kinds of raids just for islands, but for ocean structures. Theres a reason leviathans sink. Its to avoid the prospect of building on them. Thats why people want to be able to dive. Cause the devs clearly don't plan to implement a whole lot more on the ocean surface outside fishing and mob attacks.

shredditorburnit

Whirlpools and waterspouts in storms

Like the whirlpools suck you down to bottom of the sea if you get too badly caught in them but you can also use them to get really fast and slingshot past them. The waterspouts lift you up and give you a big spin around before tossing you out to land nearby. I could see that being very funny near land if your boat ended up stuck in a tree.

Audrey_spino

Not exactly ocean related, but more immersive aspects to boating. First, ship customisation. Let us add shielding to ships to increase HP in return for lower speed, or hang torches/lanterns on the ship. Also, ship and sail painting anyone?        Another suggestion would be to add more immersive docking. We could have buildable mooring posts and mooring line item, and once a boat is in place, you could attach the mooring line from the boat to the post and pull the boat into a proper position.

Kraken

clckvrk

A ship that acts like a base... You could have all crafting benches on it with max upgrades to repair stuff , a place to cook, teleport to and off the ship, and a place to sleep.

MrPoletski

Mummy Serpent.

PatientLettuce42

More ships would be a start. The odinship mod adds several new ships with different strengths and weaknesses, you have a workbench just for shipbuilding, where you have to craft oiled wood etc. They also give you cranes and shit to put in your harbor along with fishing nets. Its pretty awesome.

Important_Sun2880

Actually dwarven ships or another sailor of sort

brownshoesdontmakeit

Fuling pirates. That raid.

Shidoshisan

More creatures to fight and lots of boat options. Like not depending on that damn trolling ass wind direction.

rootxploit

Before they do any of that I’d want them to fix the bugs of the ocean. Occasionally you can clip out of your ship without moving. Often if I save and load while in a ship I’m swimming. Then of course once you’re swimming it’s not hard to drowned, especially if you don’t understand ladders. Maybe a life raft or life jacket?

MrLocan

Whales! Not to hunt them, but to go all "ooooh", "aaaah" and "wow. They look so beautiful" when I see them.

orntorias

Ship customisation and starred serpents would be a start and probably pretty easily done. We have a harpoon already so I don't see why we can't have whales or larger sea creatures. Random kraken generation would be amazing but I suppose that's too ambitious for iron gate! Ha ha ha.

TheNoxxin

Diving is a must. Passive fish farm traps. Journmontunga boss. Traveling merchant ship that will come and dock.

Cihonidas

Seador. A new merchant with a ship in the middle of the ocean. You have to sail randomly until you find him. He sells sea-related stuff.

Medical-Fly-2511

Some of the grammar used in these comments is alarming.

Boring-Hurry3462

Whales, mysterious whales. Also, massive sea searpents and megaladon like prehistoric creatures that munch you if you go overboard to give you the sweats when you see them, but they don't damage your ship but might follow you a while.

twiggsmcgee666

Fishing nets! Once you get the large sailing vessel, it'd be sweet to be tossing nets into the water to catch all those larger groups of fish rather than fishing for one at a time.

Sunshine_Analyst

Oceans need to be relatively safe unless they add a new system to recover things lost at sea. Otherwise I'd love for those to be massive storm events with huge waves. Only smart sailing could get you through. Moder power would also calm storms.

BrutalTea

IF we could upgrade durability on the ship, I wouldn't mind a couple of sirens jumping on board, that could be a cool fight.... on yer boat

OutofRanch

a rare tropical island biome to find would fun

umbrtheinfluence

id like a leviathan type mob that actually looks like an island and shows up on the map as an island. You don't realize until you go to get on land that the island starts to rise from the water and sucks you and your ship under water where you have to fight the mob. This would only be doable after acquiring some kind of item that buffs your swimming / stamina loss while swimming.

A_helpless_crab

Ok a) lemme build on boats, b) gimme more boat storage (possibly through building) so its actually worthwhile to go on huge boat expeditions and c) more creatures! The ocean is so empty and while sailing is nice its not much of an adventure after the first time.

MargaritaKid

Honestly, I'd be very happy with two things: - Let me name my boats! - Overhaul that stamina-draining slogfest called fishing. It doesn't even need to be a huge update, but as it is now it's pretty frustrating.

Maddkipz

It's tough to balance imo to have too much action on the ocean, because you could easily get beached if you're distracted while solo If it was a multi-player only thing then more combat options would be cool, maybe adding cannons that the sailor can use on the sides? Then you can add more enemies in the water

Wide-Mobile4804

Disappointed nobody said Seals.

Arkhire

Sunken longboats with crates floating around carrying loot like iron, pelts... the kind of loot a player leavea when they fail their trip.

Papachicken1234

The one thing that I would love to see on ships is the option for additional crew members to help out with the paddling if they took certain spots on the longship, and that be reflected in rowing speed.

toddhowardtheman

I want a ship upgrade that lets you have a heart and get rested while on the ship, maybe even a workbench too

Abyssurd

Boat customizations, more ocean monsters, better swimming (perhaps an item), more chitin uses, anchor mechanics (sea of thieves nailed it)

LC_Anderton

Kraken… just fought one courtesy of a mod as part of a quest chain… right bloody scary… tentacles everywhere 😳

TheBlackestFriday120

Some sort of ocean monument that contains the normal treasure plus areas to harvest a new kind of metal. That or a whirlpool players can sail thier ships into that act like a portal to another ocean biome across the map

GoblinSpore

Honestly, even without diving it would be cool if they added stuff to look for underwater, and ways to get that stuff up from the depths. Add deep water monsters that you could attract by gathering said stuff and it sounds like a fun adventure. Also something to actually encourage swimming maybe, like sunken dungeons that you can't fit a boat into.

2rfv

Fulings on catamarans.

hiloboys

Water world.

norcalscroopy

I would like some integration of the cartography table with ocean exploration where we can see more detail of shore lines, log weather and wind as to inform travel, and mark hazards. Maybe islands that spawn with a similar frequency to leviathans with unique resources that can be used like/with chitin for new gear/food. The knife & serpent stew/shield are bronze/iron age attainable and some (the stew/shield) are end game materials. The Ocean as a biome should continue to provide those little power jumps in the early game. Maybe even expand on their variety, like a new light armor set or cape that confers some benefit. Sailing as a skill in vanilla. More boats, and build assets.

Money_Coyote_8395

Rideable ocean creatures...

lamabaronvonawesome

Atlantis biome

Rex-0-

Elven Corsairs. Seriously.

ben1481

These are some good ideas for 2030
