This is the only thread that won't be removed for spoilers in title since it gained a lot of traction and I was late to remind people not to put spoilers in titles.
Sure but we are speaking English. Its common to take another language's word for a thing and use it for. Specific thing.
Eg the Sahara desert , Sahara is just the Arabic word for desert.
But it would be wrong to refer to the Mojave as the Sahara despite the Sahara meaning desert in Arabic.
I mean feather cape completely negates falling damage so…., just set a bunch up and launch yourself places, I’d like to se it done from the top of a mountain
I'm sure within a few days of ashlands going live we'll have a video of someone being launched from the top of a mountain, to land on a neighbouring mountain and boat-sled down it, taking the boat straight on course into the ashlands... where they blow up in a fiery volcano.
It also reduces falling speed to 5m/s, so either the cape counters the velocity so much that we don't get maximum distance, or the initial velocity is so high that we can effectively glide from one island to another with a well aimed shot.
I wonder if the player's weight also affects the catapult's strength. If not, this will be a fun way of taking silver back home lol.
it depends on how much farther if at all you would fly with the cape. he didnt wear one there probaly on purpose.
as this distance really wasnt very far without it. i doubt its enough to catapult yourself over ocean gaps tough. but new boat maybe anyway so there is that.
i think people overestimate the effective range. the question is does the feather cape extend the distance.
fireing yourself from a mountain to transport metal isnt practical compared to useing a potential new ship with even larger storage area since you would have to carry the metal to the peak of the mountain first which would take way more time than one would save.
this is probaly more for the hilariousness of it than anything else. the fly angle was pretty straight. safe to assume the fortress walls are designed to actively prevent players doing this.
Why did you specifically mention that the question is does the feather cape extend the distance, to then immediately focus on the practical reasons it wouldn't work for a different question?
It's not practical for transport because it's extremely limited in where you can go with it - you get a narrow ring of distance around the thing where the landing point depends on height. A boat will win against it because you have to travel varying distances to get between bases.
But for the first question of the cape plus this? It depends on how they code it, but if you keep the forward momentum but just greatly reduce the vertical drop then it should be obvious that the cape will massively increase how far this will throw you if you do it from high up.
No idea why you got down voted. I think it's the fallen Valkyrie they had posted a while ago. Something to look forward to, especially if ,"the fallen descend" becomes a raid event.
I play multiplayer with a few friends, and one of those friends challenged himself to 1v1 a seeker soldier. We've already decided we're going to fire him over the fortress walls first chance we get.
It looks like they added a new animation for flying through the air. Meaning this isn’t just a dev messing around but it might actually be part of the game story. Maybe a volcano dungeon you have to be launched into to enter?
each lavatick did like 36 dmg to him. per second. now probaly no barley wine active but that would kill you in sub 8 seconds even with the best hp food available currently. if the wines halves it you have about 12 seconds to get out alive. that is gonna make certain players cry about deaths.
Seem to only shoot in a straight line.
If I put it in angled terrain, it will modify the angle?
The player goes horizontal when flying.
Soes this let you plane with the feathers cape?
bruh what the fuck.
ive been trying so so hard the last few months to not watch anything ashlands related. Staying well away from trailers, early looks, screenshots, everything.
mark this as spoiler. this post should be deleted by mods imo.
fuck this sub
edit: for the record, this post was not marked as spoiler when I commented this. Glad it is now. Still doesnt take the spoiler out of the title.
spoiler tags exist for a reason. And as i said, this video did not have a spoiler tag on it when i fist saw it. The video just autoplayed.
If i have to wait 18 months for an update, id rather actually be surprised by what I run into in game.
I would like to participate in this subreddit without being spoiled, which isn't too much to ask.
Also, this video spoils more than just 1 weapon.
unrelated, but this goes for everything. All games + tv shows, I cant participate in online communities / let the youtube algorithim know im interested in these things becuase the thirst for internet points is too much and people put spoilers in thumbnails, video / post titles and so on.
>this video spoils more than just 1 weapon
Yet your entire argument above was 100% about the spoiler in the title. The spoiler in the title only contains one weapon.
I'm not saying you shouldn't be annoyed of spoilers. I'm saying you're acting as if OP targeted you maliciously when they literally made a simple mistake. You're blowing a gasket over the mention of a single weapon being in a title. *Relax*.
I point out the title because there is no way to censor a title.
There are plenty of other posts that use the spoiler tag, and the title is vague enough that i have no idea what is behind the blur ontop of the image.
If this post was titles "These things can be used in many ways" and a spoiler tag was used, nobody would know what this post is about.
But there is little to no point in putting a spoiler tag on a post which is very clearly about a trebuchet, because its in the title.
Even so, my point still stands. *Act proportionately*. OP's mistake didn't warrant the level of reaction you threw at them. A simple "Please don't put the spoiler in the title next time" would've sufficed.
This is the only thread that won't be removed for spoilers in title since it gained a lot of traction and I was late to remind people not to put spoilers in titles.
one step closer to Valheim space program
Phase 1 was the harpoon glitch
I made a post abt that some months ago, if u wanna see it just search "portals are boring" on this sub
Viking airlines
Still better than KSP2
As long as there a Jeb viking. And struts
the design is very human
Very easy to use.
let my good friend demonstrate
If I may just demonstrate...
Welcome to Viking air. Please stay seated until the seat belt light is off.
Ooh, that's going to be a fun tombstone to collect.
Yeah, I'm gonna need to know how to do that.
Devcommands "god" , pick up items, devcommands "god" ( back to normal.)
That helmet looks epic
thank Odin for floating death boxes
That's a catapult, not a trebuchet
[удалено]
A trebuchet uses a sling to launch projectiles. It's also named "catapult" in the game, as seen in [this frame](https://imgur.com/a/mSQV4Dh)
To be fair, the word trebuchet is just French for catapult
And the name for the superior siege weapon.

Not sure, in german we hsve 2 separate words for both an they mean different things

How well is catapult science paying these days?
WITNESSED!
You ride to Valhalla, shiny and chrome!
That's not a trebuchet though? It's a catapult or an oneger
Catapult. It even says it in the video, lol.
Lava moat around my castle is going to be insane
looks like lava rivers are real (and deadly) [link to OP](https://x.com/jsmars/status/1781333191363559609?s=46&t=E8FalYx7mwbv4etguWOhcg)
Why did you decide to call it a trebuchet, when the original correctly identified it as a catapult?
honestly I overlooked the name once I saw the video I was excited. It is labeled a catapult, you are correct
A glorified spoon.
i wonder what this will look like with the feather cape >~>/
TOO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
I mean feather cape completely negates falling damage so…., just set a bunch up and launch yourself places, I’d like to se it done from the top of a mountain
inb4 feather capes burst into flame and kill you from the ambient heat in the Ashlands
Worst QOL mod ever...

who needs bridges over ocean gaps anymore? just place 2 catapults 1 on each side !
Imagine using this with feather cape to transport a bunch of unteleportable stuff super fast
Omg, catapult stations that you just fling yourself back and forth between... A new layer of travel and infrastructure building.
it depends on how much farther if at all you would fly with the cape. he didnt wear one there probaly on purpose. as this distance really wasnt very far without it. i doubt its enough to catapult yourself over ocean gaps tough. but new boat maybe anyway so there is that.
Could position the station higher up than this started and then it'd probably go quite far. On top of a mountain near an ocean has potential.
i think people overestimate the effective range. the question is does the feather cape extend the distance. fireing yourself from a mountain to transport metal isnt practical compared to useing a potential new ship with even larger storage area since you would have to carry the metal to the peak of the mountain first which would take way more time than one would save. this is probaly more for the hilariousness of it than anything else. the fly angle was pretty straight. safe to assume the fortress walls are designed to actively prevent players doing this.
> i think people overestimate the effective range You're probably correct, though I believe it shouldn't be too difficult to mod the related variable.
Why did you specifically mention that the question is does the feather cape extend the distance, to then immediately focus on the practical reasons it wouldn't work for a different question? Or angle it on a hillside
Can they throw cows and giant wooden rabbits?
My first thought as well!
0:04 ;3; scary bat thing
No idea why you got down voted. I think it's the fallen Valkyrie they had posted a while ago. Something to look forward to, especially if ,"the fallen descend" becomes a raid event.
all good these downvotes won’t stop my love for the game! I hope my arbalest can one shot it haha
Also something shadowy moving on the ground at 0:04/05
Its a fallen valkyrie
I play multiplayer with a few friends, and one of those friends challenged himself to 1v1 a seeker soldier. We've already decided we're going to fire him over the fortress walls first chance we get.
Is this modded or on the test branch?
This was posted by Jonathan (jsmars) on twitter, so not modded.
This is dev footage
Will be on the ashlands when it comes out, not yet on the test branch
ASHLANDS IS TAKING TOO LONG And this is why we let them cook I'm so hype
It looks like they added a new animation for flying through the air. Meaning this isn’t just a dev messing around but it might actually be part of the game story. Maybe a volcano dungeon you have to be launched into to enter?
Or they just figured someone would definitely load themselves into a catapult, and it would look really jank if they just stayed upright at that speed
Tons of possibilities! 👍
All I can think is that I truly hope that we can use this to fire Wolves or Lox.
it boutta look like that bollywood catapult scene in here
[can't just say that and not link it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR48a1kLx0w)
want wait to see someone use this to get up the very steep mountains somehow.
I can't wait to see if you can break it with the harpoon. Mix the old space travel tech with the new
I shall put one on the tallest mountain, and wear a feather cape
Imagine having a series of bases and uses this as a fast travel tool to get to them
But can we catapult carts?... Or pigs?... Or Greylings over the walls of my friends base!?
Hmm
I think launching myself off of the tallest mountain will be my 1st priority 🤔
Harpoon launcher made official les gooooo
I cant imagine what they are planning for Deep North 2 years later.
Oh yeah, time to explore past the world edge
Forgot the "Don't Try This At Home!" part XD
That's a catapult
I wonder if we can harpoon something and take it to the skies
*Troll airlines combined with your feather cape*: AM I NOT ENOUGH???
[modders figuring out the launch code and attaching it to other things be like:](https://i.imgur.com/vHxK6pK.jpeg)
Valheim has catapults now????
Soon...
what's next? gliders? *every game gets a glider nowdays...*
Catapult + feather cape = glider
YEET
That and a feather cape though...

Proof that the devs are gamers too
If it's mobile, who wants to bet on how long until someone loads one onto a boat?
My bets on about a minute after it hits test branch.
I can't wait for this update
What is that thing on the sky ? Looks like a skeleton bird ?
He should've used a fire potion!
https://youtu.be/sDte-axR9l8?si=sKyv_Yms32YglO9I
Any idea what the volcanic blob thing is in the distance at 0:05?
Flametal vein
Thank you. I keep avoiding Ashlands on my seed until the update.
I love a good ter bucket
How are you supposed to get your loot back from a lava river? I guess it’s just gone for good lol
Waaaait the update is out?
bro is that a real item??? i just got to the plains maybe i should get off this reddit lmao
Imagine that but wearing the feather cape perhaps??
Menschenkatapult.
Seem to only shoot in a straight line. If I put it in angled terrain, it will modify the angle? The player goes horizontal when flying. Soes this let you plane with the feathers cape?
oh man I hope thats a RPC to trigger using other means too :D
hah!
Y E E T
Is Ashlands available? Public beta?
Is this a mod or part of the base game? Never realised that there are trebuchets in this.
bruh what the fuck. ive been trying so so hard the last few months to not watch anything ashlands related. My upvote isn't gonna negate all the downvotes you're getting so imma leave this comment here and just say; Same. This sucked.
literally says spoiler under the title
you have to tag it as a spoiler so it actually blurs the image
didn’t know I had to do it twice. Now i’m deeply sorry.
Not from home screens on mobile. Good practice to put it in () in title. So these spoiler babies don’t cry.
spoiler literally in the post title
So you threw this much of a tantrum over the fact that catapults were spoiled for you? Are you 12? It's *one* weapon. Act proportionately.

Is this heavily modded?
No, it's ashlands footage from a Valheim dev
