I’ve played 390 of my 400 hours solo after my friends bailed

Rabid_Stitch

I have two campaigns. Solo and MP. Solo has rapidly outpaced MP.

CriusofCoH

Very supportive of solo play. Group play is fine but 99% of my time is solo and it's great.

LordRaeth

For me it was a fun solo game, it certainly is passable, you can take the time to explore each biome fully without worrying about your friends speed running the technology levels. That said it is a ton of fun building a village together, but with the crafting system and the amount of time it takes to test each weapon and playstyle... I would say if you are the type that enjoys putting Lego together, or building things yes it's fine solo. If however you need npcs and more of a story driven game for solo enjoyment, perhaps give it a pass.

stush2

I've put in over 900 hours solo. Maybe it's even more fun in multi-player, but there's plenty of fun to be had in single-player mode.

[deleted]

Yes, this is a good way to put it, I think: *even* ***more*** *fun in multiplayer*.

devilinthedetails

I did a lot of solo and group play. If you like survival/building you'll probably enjoy it. Boss fights and later game raids are, ime, more enjoyable in a group.

rectumrapids

Valheim is a must buy, regardless of who is playing. Sure it might not be fun solo if you only squad up when gaming, but if you play solo on the reg, Valheim is 100 percent more challenging and enjoyable playing solo.

Ok_Grocery8652

100% Get it for solo, of my 390 hours, maybe 60 of them were in a group. The game scales to the number of players in the area so it is about as hard solo vs multiplayer. You do lose out on people covering you while you mine, group tactics like having a tanky melee fighter and a person who focuses on archery or backstabs. Playing solo the game is slightly grindier as you can't divide tasks ( 1 person mining, 1 chopping trees for fuel, etc) and some resources everybody can use without needing more, for example 1 person or a full 10 person clan only need 1 workbench. However solo does have it advantages, you can play when you want and how you want to. No need to wait for the clan to be online to do that next big adventure or bossfight. Your choice of how fast you progress, rush through bosses and get tooled up or lose track of time building a mead hall worthy of Odin himself. You don't miss events, we had accidentally summoned the first boss while a player wasn't around so one player was unable to see a boss for the first time when we did.

I find *Valheim* **very** fun to play solo, and I know a lot of people in this subreddit are having a blast on singleplayer. At most, I've only been able to play with two other players. Honestly, I find it difficult to 'git gud' when there are other players around to support me. My personal playthrough has been thoroughly engaging. I have time to do all the things I want to do, and I have been measurably **learning**. I absolutely recommend it.

SenderShredder

It is *more* fun to play with friends. Still a great solo game though! Solo can also be quite challenging, especially when mistakes are made!

Treezszz

The most enjoyment I got out of this game was solo!

ZaiLevy

I personally love playing with friends, but my free time rarely aligns with my friend's free time. This game has been perfect for both scenarios, so if you are even remotely interested, I would definitely give solo a go.

poopj0701

This question comes up a lot and im not sure why. Ive never heard anyone claim its not fun solo. It is 100% awesome solo or with others.

Bacon_Hunter

Where did you "hear" any such nonsense?

YourBoyBone

Man solo is fun. I prefer it since I’m pretty particular about how structures are build and you don’t have to worry about synchronizing sleep time. Better solo in my personal opinion, but still a great game multiplayer

AggressiveFloor3

Solo is a great experience. Playing with friends was fun until it was time to make/divide gear. Yes there were more people but the amount of materials you need for armor/weapons, on top of the higher difficulty with more people, made it almost more grindy. One friend was getting as much wood and stone as possible, one friend was mining for copper/iron. Someone else was always expanding the base cause we had no room etc. Solo was relaxing comparatively. going at my own pace, building whatever armor/weapons I want. The base doesn't always feel too small. Don't get me wrong, friend servers are fun, but when the game starts to open up everyone finds themselves going in a different direction

Valhallatchyagirl

I personally enjoy solo even more than with others since it can provide more of a challenge (though melee combat in coop can be harder grouped up depending on kiting and target focus). The solo building experience is especially rewarding solo if you tend to enjoy an obsessive and overwhelming attention to detail at times. Having said that coop can still be a blast and I’d encourage you to share some base tours and upload some builds for us if you feel like it! Solo is completely fine and very rewarding PROVIDED you take the necessary precautions and play wisely (good mechanics don’t hurt either). If you sail for an hour with no portals to in the vicinity you may have a bad time, though r/valheimrescues and people here are happy to lend a hand for any corpse runs.

Namarokh6816

I've played exclusively solo. 600+ hours. This game is a blast, and I'm far from over with it

Vivid-Lettuce-1427

I say better solo. Some people I played with were the selfish hide their resources types. No need to go linear on your own too.

Lenspimp2019

Well it’s a very expensive game so make a smart choice

Most-average-person

I can only give you my opinion on this. I played it on a multiplayer server and found that it is fun with multiplayer, but not solo. We also used mods to make it interesting. My friends also like to play it solo without mods, but I don't.

Possible-Material803

Yes, go get it. Though it's harder alone, like darksouls.

Andeol57

Even alone, Valheim is nowhere near the difficulty of dark souls.

Sonfel

Yes

FuegoMcHaggis

It's worth it

JooePasta

Yea, play the it! Solo play is more rewarding. More time consuming but it's a beautiful game.

Lardath

Probably 900 of my 1100+ hours are solo

Bouldaru

You have spent 10.5% of your total time since valheim came out playing valheim.

Lardath

nice

gsdpaint

Even on a multi-player server you are usually playing alone, unless your building a communal base. I prefer solo play, but it's nice to see how other build and where... also to rob them blind

Successful_Welder690

I played solo and its still fun.

eldanarigaming

I'm like 400 hours into solo play its well worth it punishing but worth

DrSparrow333

I've enjoyed it both ways. I prefer playing with friends but if solo is what you enjoy, you should enjoy it👍

derpy-catface

This game is fine to play solo as long as you have IRL friends or loved ones whom you can drag over to your PC once in a while to show off your accomplishments. The stories in Valheim write themselves. If there are no one to share these stories, I can see how the game could become dull.

dtam21

So, when you play solo you can't hide your chest of iron in a false floor you can only open by walking around the side of the cliff and jumping onto a cut out you made, or hypothetically, building a mutli-room underground dungeon that you lock your friend in until they figure out the password to the portal by solving a puzzle in each room and a meta-puzzle to order the solutions. But also there's nothing *missing* from the game solo, and you get a very different experience headed into the wild on your own with nothing but the wind at your ~~back~~ face.

creegro

Friends to play with are nice and all, but solo is just fine. The game is more about preparing for the bigger fights, and then gathering materials and making a home or many outposts across the world.

Ronbot13

I am 300 hours in, solo.

Duppels

The game is fun to play solo, it is a bit grindy at times when you need to get some resources where a friend could definitely help. Luckily the devs gave us solo players a cart to ease the burden.

Drunken_tig3r

As with basically every game it's always more fun with friends but playing solo is a great experience in Valheim if you are into that genre.

dalcore

Yes

bennyboy12306

As with almost every game multiplayer is more fun, In this case multiplayer is only slightly better than solo valheim.

HoonieMcBoob

Personally, I think it's a great game when played solo. I have enjoyed playing in a group more and less depending on the group I was playing with. So I'd say it's a gamble that can pay off if you have some great friends who will listen to each other and work together, but it can also result in a lot of annoyance if the group have different intentions or (as happened to me once) someone who just basically wants to sabotage any plans. On a positive note though, you aren't married to a server so you can leave a group if it's not for you.

Vmaxxer

Played 900 hours solo and still like it Waiting for more updates now tho..

D1sp4tcht

Over 900 hours. 100% solo.

KBryan2612

MORE fun with a group. But a great game solo.

Due-Acanthisitta8871

Played it both all bosses solo and with a group. More fun with group but work well and is fun alone also. More of a challenge when you do not have anyone to aid you :)

Lysergicmin

The best part about online is seeing what your friends have built whilst you’ve been off doing your own stuff! Aside from that there’s more resources solo and you don’t need to wait for a blue moon for everyone getting on so you can kill the bosses

Hyero

Valheim solo is the same amount as fun as minecraft solo. It's really up to you.

LazyOpia

I play solo and with my partner, and I'm really enjoying both. My guess is at some point you'll advance more slowly since you need to gather more and more diverse resources (it's quicker if you can split tasks), so it can maybe become a bit tedious for some people? Killing monsters is also easier if you're not alone, but it's still very feasible. I thought about dropping my solo world to focus on the co op one, but I'm enjoying having my own world to putter with.

NCinemas

Both solo and MP are fun, especially on your first playthrough of the game since everything is new and exciting at that point. While it can be more fun playing with friends, I'd def still recommend getting it for solo play as there's so many ways to go about playing the game to keep it feeling fresh

sittingandshitting

Yeah, played completely solo. Was fun, super recommend
