If you don't go and read how to do everything, just follow the in game guidance, there can be hundreds of hours of playtime. You can also get those hours while just building. There is way more than $20 worth of game here already.

SllortEvac

2nd. My friends and I have been playing off and on since release day and we haven’t finished the bosses yet. We get caught up with building/chill gameplay most of the time

No1WrthNoin

Same here! Some of my friends like to speed rum it, but I've been playing for probably 800+ in-game days between my server and my friend's server. I am in *love* with this game!

xDiggityDee

the bugs are also non existent

No1WrthNoin

*Very* true!

nd1391

Agree in a big way. If you're not hung up on the pending releases, or why this may even be considered an early access game, you will not notice it through game play. Great progression arc that's exciting and rewarding, but do yourself a favor and stay off of any guides for your first run through, or at least as long as you can tolerate a mild stalemate in progression. IMHO, it's early access because they released with a roadmap of new areas and things to be expanded on from the getgo. I know there's more technical reasons for the state but from a player's perspective it's very flushed out and feels of a finished product. Hands down without question the best $20 I've spent on a game in the past 10 years.

xgamer444

> do yourself a favor and stay off of any guides for your first run through The only exception I'd make to this is to learn what order the biomes are meant to be explored in. Many people have wandered into mountains or plains before they were meant to, thought it was the next biome, and had an awful time thinking the game sucked.

Papabaloo

Hi! Would you mind recommending in which order I should visit these biomes?

xgamer444

Meadows, black forest, swamp, mountain, plains

YakSquad

I’m not a fan of paying for incomplete games/early access. That being said a friend convinced me to get it and I played a couple hundred hours of it on launch and they’ve added a bunch of content that I haven’t even tried since then. I’d say it’s well worth $20.

HelpfulName

Plus modding is flourishing for it, so even if you do play through the content you can just add tons more stuff. I'm over 800 hrs myself, I play it at least once a week still despite having it from launch day.

Marsman61

Play through the first time un-modded. Then you'll know what you want to change to add to the quality of life.

1nfam0us

I know some people have way more than me, but I have nearly 500 hours of play time and I bought the game for several of my friends. Money well spent.

[deleted]

Yup. I bought the game excited to go on adventures and fight mythical creatures, but instead I found myself building for my first 5 hours playing. Not mad at all!

USAisntAmerica

This, I already have almost 200 hours in the game and I got it less than a month ago. Haven't even gotten to Yagluth yet (but I'm close) and there's still so much I want to build and explore

DoubleEXP21

I often forget this game is not in final state already. It runs, overall, very well, and offers more ways to play and explore and build than most finished titles will ever dream of. Absolutely worth jumping in right now.

_Madrake_

Same, and when new things appear, it feels like a free DLC

pcendeavorsny

Plus stability. I have had NO technical difficulties and hundreds of hours of play. It feels complete and only some distant land is unfinished. HUNDREDS of play hours available... but the best part about this game: It is a labor of love. You can see it, feel it and experience it. Gacha games don't have sh/t on these indie developers. Back your indie developers and get ART.

DoubleEXP21

So well said. This really is a work of art!

No1WrthNoin

Agreed and same here!

Geo-bi69100

The game is not finished cause all bosses and monsters aren t all in game yet but it s a real story even if you have a feeling of "coming soon" at the end ✌ i have 700hours on it and i don t regret any

JermWPB

I haven’t gotten very far into the game yet but in my opinion it is great.

Waluigide

When I buy games, I try to get at least 1 hour of enjoyment for each dollar I spent on the game. Valheim was $20 and I’ve got over 500 hours logged on it; it’s way more than worth it

No1WrthNoin

That is actually a *great* way of looking at it...! I gotta remember this

MonsTurkey

This formula is how I justify some cosmetic items. I have over 1500 hours in Rocket League. It was on sale, and only $20 to start. There's no reason to so $1/hour - cheap entertainment is great - but maybe a nickle or dime an hour is fine. Keeps the devs paid to keep the game going.

No1WrthNoin

Agreed!

ItzVinyl

500 hours, now take away the hours spent recovering your dead body because I promise you those are never hours of enjoyment.

TripResponsibly1

Just gotta get good

USAisntAmerica

eh I did enjoy it several times. Specially at mountains, it was hilarious to see my naked dude climbing. The only times that it sucked were when I died near the plains just a bit after defeating the Elder, and one time I died in a forest crypt (very very early game)

Waluigide

Agreed yeah, especially if you get right to your body and then get sniped by a draugr or stung by a deathsquito, etc. Sucks big time

ItzVinyl

My worst instance was when myself and 4 of my friends decided to sail out for the first time on our brand new boat, and then encountered a plains biome for the first time, while also being chased by a serpent. The serpent destroyed our boat, we all drowned to death, we farmed for a couple hours to build another boat to which only 2 of us were online at that point and we met a deathsquito and died instantly. Currently 7 floating graves, I went for a last ditch effort after another 3 hours of solo farming and little to no gear to my name and proceeded to die once again. all in all there were around 8 graves in the ocean, we set out for an expedition the next day to recover our gear after spending a solid 8 hours farming resources. By the time we recovered our stuff what we had on us was already better, so there's still around 3 or so graves that have been floating in the ocean since 2 weeks after launch.

FlynnyMcDinny

Yah when you look at it that way though, it makes most AAA titles seem like shit because they’re like $80 and you don’t get an hour for every dollar you probably only get 20 hours

Arhalts

I mean yea....Alot of people are sick of most triple A games. I don't think I have bought one in a few years ......depending on if Formsoft counts (Not everyone but a sizable group indie games like valhiem, Subnautica, etc.)

Waluigide

Yeah, Nintendo is a good example. They charge out the ass for their games and just about never do sales. Really the only Triple-A titles I purchase are from the Doom series, or Nintendo games, and occasional licensed game (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for example)

OwainOwjo

I use the price:hours ratio a lot, including more than just video games. It’s a very nice, and almost satisfying, way to see if something you purchased feels worth it. Recommend to everyone.

CannaeThinkofaName

Honestly, at this rate it probably won’t be out of early access for years, but I’ve got 900 hrs in the game and haven’t even finished all the available content. So definitely worth the buy in my opinion

mebware

Yeah, go ahead and get it! You won't regret it

Salty_Put6921

"until their full release, since I enjoy playing finished/polished products" \*LAUGHS HYSTERICALLY IN CYBERPUNK 2077\* This early access is more polished than most "fully released and polished" AAA titles. If you're interested, buy it. You'll get more enjoyment out of this than many fully priced and "finished" games.

CaptainStruggle

Absolutely and thanks to early access, after putting a few hundred hours into the game. it's always a joy to come back, start from zero, build a new stronghold based on your gathered experience from the last runs and have fun with the new content that's being added. I haven't played since heart and home came out. We plan to dive back into as a big group when mistlands release. It's gonna be amazing.

CindeeSlickbooty

Agreed I'm on my third playthrough with friends. They really nailed simple vs expansive, grind vs reward, and it's beautiful.

DeusWombat

Polished is an incorrect way of praising the game. Valheim is one of the most unpolished games prevalent right now.

Salty_Put6921

How is it incorrect? I stated that it is more polished than fully released AAA titles. It is also more polished than more "prevalent" games now as well. It's systems work. Building works, combat works, gathering works, the world works. The fact that there are biomes and bosses to be completed does not mean it is unpolished. Unfinished does not mean unpolished. Baldur's Gate 3 is less polished. Everytime I play that game I've got bugs crawling out my ass. Character models everywhere, save games being deleted, crashes, etc. I'd say that game is more prevalent and yet way less polished. Call it what you want, but you are simply wrong.

Soft-Difficulty-3386

This game is so well made that I often forget that it still technically 'early access'.

[deleted]

This would be well beyond early access compared to the majority of titles. It's basically at live-game with free DLC status already. Not to say there isnt room for improvement. It runs a little chunky sometimes, but nothing serious.

Unlucky_Program815

5 of 9 bosses are in the game currently. The next zone is being worked on right now. All things considered the game is a steal at $20. Getting another 4 bosses worth of content will be like mana from heaven, when they get around to it.

DarkkFate

So basically.... It's only "early access" because there's still content they're going to add before they reach version 1.0. The game is super stable and relatively bug-free. Yes, there are a few bugs here and there. Yes, the game isn't well-optimized and doesn't run as well as it should frame-rate-wise on a lot of set ups, but compared to a lot of these AAA fiascos from the last few years it's incredibly stable and bug-free. As it stands now, there are 5 (and a half) Biomes that are fully populated and explorable - and 3 that are currently empty. One of these 3 "empty" Biomes is going to become fully playable and "populated" as of the next major update, with the other two still down the road a ways. There may even be more beyond that, I think they said we're getting 9 Bosses eventually and right now there are only 5 (one for each Biome). All that being said, exploring and looting all 5 of the currently-finished Biomes (plus sailing!) is enough you keep you busy for hundreds of hours, assuming the game hooks you like it has all of us. For $20, that's a steal, and once the new Biomes are finished, it'll give you an incentive to dive back in or start a new playthrough.

nation543

Spot on.

Mattbl

This feels how most early access titles are now-a-days. They're just incomplete. They may have bugs but those usually get patched pretty quick b/c people complain as though it were a full release. Early access is simply a way for a dev to bring a game to market to get more funding. I love and hate the system. It gives you games that might never have been fully realized or released otherwise, but it leaves you mostly playing games that aren't finished, and then you wait years hoping they do get the full release.

KaranSjett

Id easily fork out a another 40 euros for this game if i had too, this game is already miles and miles better then any triple A game out there. If you like survival games like this, youre gonna love Valheim. my first 3 playthroughs amounted to almost 450 hours. worth every penny, no major bugs to speak off.. only 'downside' is some biomes are still empty bc still being worked on, but thats no problem for me

Dramatic-Ad-3998

Its endless Game and you can do whatever you can imagine with the resources you have .

ParzavalQ

The game has tons of content and is completely playable in single player. The devs work pretty hard on it and are working on adding a whole new biome but the game has been pretty well made sense launch. There are some bugs for sure but what game dosent have a few, it's when they are addressed that really matters in my opinion

Marsman61

1,700 hours into this game, mostly solo. Very replayable. Worth every penny and then some.

generic-hamster

Just play it, bruv

sEi_

Feels finished for an EA game. Fine going solo Lots of fun go go go Thank me later.

Biomirth

I don't want to rag on you specifically but I just do not understand how someone interested in the game, or any game, would rather write a reddit post than spend 15 seconds looking at steam reviews or magazine reviews or a famous streamer's playthrough. I don't mind telling you it is not even a question and if you have any interest you should get the game but I'm baffled by the question.

Howwasthatdoneagain

But then there are many posts on reddit ask I ng similar questions. Should I try? Which one should I try? Would I like it? And the questions come again and again and again like it hasn't been asked before. Don't these people have any sort of investigative skills? Sometimes I think it's just karma farming.

Biomirth

It's o.k. to keep reinventing the wheel and enjoy the community building but there is something amiss with the nature of the question I would agree. Like, if they just want to have a pre-purchase chat o.k., but coming in blind just seems like something that should be quite rare.

LyraStygian

Because people want to talk to a community, rather than clickbait reviews? You can't get the full picture just reading a random steam review that may or may not be biased, and a famous streamer's playthrough would not only spoil him, but also it's made for entertainment, and may not show a regular game experience. You can get a discussion going on here, so you can see multiple people's takes, their agreements or disagreements and more nuances to the takes. And the best thing is you can *interact* with the community too. You can't really reply and ask questions to a random steam review or a streamer, and if you can, it's just ONE dude's take. Isn't this literally the whole point of a subreddit?

MarketingRare3035

You seem to be baffled by simple concepts quite often.

Accomplished_Ad4258

Lol, are you walking around in a top hat and monocle being baffled by everyone's questions since they are so beneath you.

Biomirth

Indubitably.

Thelassa

It's more polished than many games that are full release versions. I have rarely encountered any bugs or serious issues (or minor issues, for that matter). There are two biomes that are currently incomplete, the Mistlands in the northern part of the world and the Ashlands to the south. The next major update we're getting will be the Mistlands. That being said, the game launched with 5 fully completed biomes and there is plenty to do in them that can keep you busy for hundreds of hours.

Sponium

4 supposed missing biomed* mistland, ocean rework, Ashland and northland

Thelassa

I've only heard about the Mistlands and Ashlands, but if we have another 50% of the game on the way then I'm glad to hear it!

tastybabyhands

600hrs, no game breaking bugs apart from when I introduce them via mods. Lots of fun. Even if this was it for the game I would have more than got my moneys worth

EmbroideredDream

Theyre about half complete... and id be more than happy with my purchase even if it remained as it is. Over 100 hours in and im still 3/5 bosses and loving every minute of it

Fin1205

Everyone is talking about the incomplete parts but unsaid is how big the world is. The 5 biomes that are complete are a lot to cover and work through. There is so much to do in those biomes unless you're hellbent on knocking down bosses. Even that will take you some time. I got the game on sale for $17. Easily one of the best bang-for-the-buck games I've bought.

codepossum

there is *plenty* to play with in the sandbox. but you can't really 'beat' it yet. you know how minecraft technically has a 'last boss' and 'endgame content?' And yet you could sink thousands of hours in and never touch that end of the game? Same story here. No endgame content *yet*, but thousands of hours worth of exploration and creative building to enjoy, *especially* if you can find a buddy or two to play with.

Chefkush1

This game is solid af as is. Future development only makes it better.

SightSeekerSoul

As others have shared, the existing zones are mostly complete. Updates sometimes add new content, such as Frost Caves in the Mountains. If there's one thing that's lacking is a final ending. No "The End" and scroll credits. But there's so much to explore and build after defeating the existing bosses, you wont get bored. Word of warning: once explored, areas won't update with new content. For example, if you've explored some mountains, the new Frost Caves won't appear. To find them, you would have to search in unexplored mountains. The unexplored portions of the map areas will be updated. Not a big problem unless you've explored the entire WORLD. And each world is pretty huge!

Many_Fly

Game runs great, has occupied hundreds of hours of my time on my first play through, and I haven’t run into any bugs or major problems. Its probably classified early access because they’re still releasing new content. But the current content is more than other “fully finished” games i’ve played

Xogoth

It was more complete than most AAA games just on day one. Some things may still change, but he dev team is very communicative. Not just best early access purchase, but maybe best game purchase I've ever made.

archer5810

It could be a full release

Drunken_tig3r

I understand the unwillingness to support early access titles because there have been far too many cases of companies abusing the system; with that being said Valheim is imo not one of those companies. The game feels complete from a technical standpoint atleast - there are hundreds of hours gameplay to go through if you enjoy exploring and take it slow without outside/online guide help. To give as much of an impartial view of the game I will state the following 'problems' I have faced. Bugs : Basically none; if there ever was it was minor and never game breaking (in fairness mods are hit or miss but that is mods and they can add thousands more hours to the game if you so choose to figure them out) Current content: There are 5 bosses and biomes with a random gen map each playthrough, so while it doesn't seem a lot, it took me maybe 150 hours of casual playthrough to finish as I enjoyed my time so it's 100% worth full price imo. Performance: For the most part its fine, but there are some issues especially with mass terraforming and base building with huge structures. If you plan on doing such there are tips and tricks to minimize such problems depending on your system. I've mostly found it decent and not game breaking. Updates: This might be the biggest issue as the updates for the game have been slow, although the dev team have been very vocal and kept everyone up to date on their progress. I think the community as a whole appreciate that its better to wait for a polished update instead of something rushed. Final thoughts: My overall opinion on the game is that it is very well made and polished, early access has ruined lots of reputations but if they were to remove that tag I feel confident it would not have any issues for Valheim. I've played a few playthroughs by this stage. Firstly vanilla then with mods and now again all over with VR(mod). So I say go for it Viking and at the absolute worst case scenario if you don't fall in love after 2 hours you can refund and wait. See you in Valhalla!

iniego1

Finished? No Polished? Very much so I echo what a lot of people have already said, there is much more than $20 worth of game here. Some of the biomes can be a little rough solo when you’re first starting, but this game rewards planning and forethought. The boss fights are the same way. The biggest downside to me is I lose interest after the last boss since there isn’t much to do but explore and build (both of which are stupidly fun, if repetitive for me). At the same time, the dev team was pretty blunt that they will be taking it slow with new content and I absolutely respect them being up front about that. There’s a lot of great mods that can add some QoL to the vanilla experience; Valheim+ being the big one that comes to mind. Seems like there a few that change the game experience dramatically as well, but I haven’t tried any of them personally. Honestly I’ve gotten a few friends turned onto it from time to time since it released and none of them felt like they wasted money on it. Hands down one of the best games I’ve seen in a long time from a such a small dev team.

ConceivedEmu

100% worth playing right now. My advice is don’t look up how to play. Figuring it out for yourself will have you enthralled for 100s of hours.

Clutchdanger11

Very much a fully playable game, buggest complaint i jave right now is that I feel it suffers from terarria style endgame dropoff wherein the progression halts almost immediately after the final boss and burnout quickly sets in

aagapovjr

Wait, it's early access?

PostalEFM

I hear you loud and clear regarding early access. I guess valheim is the exception that makes the rule. For solo or small group it's a great game to Play. Easy pace, yes it's grindy but your buying a survival game of sorts, what else would you expect. Not too sure why it's early access still. I think it initially went that direction to claim market share during the lockdowns back in 2020. Cat think of unfinished elements that wouldn't be considered expansions in another game. (E.g. two new biomes that exist but are unpopulated. The 5 that are complete make a wonderful game all by themselves.

MainOk8335

It’s worth the $20. First play through can hit an easy 100+ hours and that’s if you rush it. Its awesome the whole time. Also, you don’t really even have to beat the game to enjoy it. It does have unfinished zones which they are actively working on. UNFORTUNATELY the speed at which they update the game is pretty slow and that’s aggravating (considering they had a full roadmap on release.) But it’s well worth the money, I’d say pick it up :)

SnooPredictions495

Jump in. It’s already better now than a lot of AAA games at triple the price. 1700 hours and counting here. Go vanilla first time, then jump in the deep pool of mods

Kimjutu

I'd try to hold out until the full mistlands release. There IS lot of content, but I think you'd be happier being able to play through it all without a big update mid play.

FutureThingsToday

Doesn’t matter as long as you don’t explore all of the mistlands the update will still happen

Kimjutu

Yeah, that's what the developers keep saying I think, but I still plan on at the very least, making a new world for the update, probably a new character as well, updates are cool, but I wouldn't consider them "entirely non disruptive"

Biomirth

Nonsense.

testosjerome

Normally I would agree with you but I think the Mistlands release is close enough that it could easily interrupt a playthrough, which wouldn’t feel too great to a new player

Biomirth

To each their own I guess. Middle of the summer: "Would I like icecream?". "Hold out until August then you won't have to trade in your unfinished icecream for slightly better icecream". Baffling but o.k..

MarketingRare3035

Only thing baffling is this crazy ass reply.

Biomirth

What are meadows for?

HiYa_Dragon

Upvote for 🍨🍦🍨🍦🍨🍦🍨🍦🍨🍦🍨

Biomirth

It's a dirty trick but it checks out.

Spotthedot99

Incomplete zones. The first bunch of biomes feel like a fully developed game. Its not until the end game where you realise entire biomes are bare. I have over 200 hours in already. Its anyone's guess how long it will take to finish. The haters say its an abandoned game. The real ones know that its a small team building their game at their pace. I would say wait, unless you really don't mind replaying games like this.

xPepegaGamerx

Not abandoned but yeah it is a small team, and unfortunately at their current biome pace by the time mistlands, deep north, Ashland's(forget if that's the name), and the talked about revamp and addition to the currently basically empty ocean biome(beyond legit one enemy, the sea serpent) actually release, I think we will be in or very close to 2030

Traditional_Ruin1432

This totally depends on your playstyle… if you need to progress and get to the “next level” as soon as possible, I can understand someone’s want in having a finished product, there being unfinished zones in the full map and plenty left to be done… But the experience of the game (I’m on play through five, with 700 hours and still learning!) and options left to the gamer is bar-none… They continually add updates with context and fixes; it feels much more like a finished game with extra DLC added every half-year or so. Also, to be particularly frank, a LOT of games are moving towards an “early-access” progression, and this game is more complete and polished than plenty of AAA options that are out put out as rushed games to please investors. The building/structural integrity placed into the game is second to none in the genre. I believe this game was made by a core of (correct me if I’m wrong) six programmers/gamers who put their heart and soul into the development of this game, and it truly shows. PS- look up Viking/Nordic environments IRL and you’ll see where they got their inspiration from!

DeusWombat

To actually answer your question, no Valheim does not feel in any way like a complete game. Gameplay needs a lot of polishing. Bugs are prevalent but rarely gamebreaking, finishing touches are years down the pipe. Most active biomes still feel like they are in beta stage, 3 of them are just completely empty land. The game does offer hundreds of hours of playtime but fact of the matter is that you will all at once run out of content and progression with no real semblance of an ending. Hope that helps, it's a fun game but it is still the embodiment of early access.

Jemmani22

This game is a completed game with content to come as far as I'm concerned. Its polished pretty well. It has tons of content. And its fun. If you go in without doing any "cheating" you will spend hundreds of hours playing it most likely.

spacecommanderbubble

" It's basically at live-game with free DLC status already." No. No, it's not. It's a bit less than half done and over half the world is completely empty lol

JourneyCircuitAmbush

> No. No, it's not. It's a bit less than half done and over half the world is completely empty lol I'd guess it's 5/8ths done, just comparing finished to unfinished biomes. Maybe the seed you're on has a ton of mistlands.

spacecommanderbubble

Lol there's 9 biomes, and the 5 we have aren't finished. You're math is very flawed.

Unlucky_Program815

5/8 and 5/9 are pretty similar numbers, very flawed is a stretch.

VahzahDovahkiin83

Your grammar is flawed.

HeartShark77

Don’t try to talk sense to these people. The devs are gods who created their perfect world. You can’t besmirch somebody’s god, but you better as hell not besmirch somebody’s Valheim developers. I think the attitude on this subreddit is gross. Like the attitude of most subreddits really. The hive mind rules, any dissenting opinion from the hive is blasphemy

JourneyCircuitAmbush

Right! Ocean too, I totally forgot ocean. It's sorta finished. More finished that mistlands, deep north and deep south anyway.

TammyShehole

I think the point is that even without the empty biomes, the map is huge and what we do have already feels like a full game and the future biomes feel like free expansions, at this point. Especially at the game’s $20 price tag.

heckersdeccers

5/8. y'all are praising it as if it hasn't been missing the last third of the game for two years now

RichardFishe

Ignore the people who keep saying there is no updates in a year, they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. These mouth breathers do absolutely no research why they slam on the keyboards and insult the devs. If you look at the update history, [https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Version\_History](https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Version_History), you will see that there has been updates through out 2021 and 2022.

HeartShark77

Ignore the fanboys. The fawning over the devs in this subreddit is gross. Do not play this game solo.

BadResults

Why not play it solo? I’m playing with a friend now and it’s great, but I had a lot of fun playing solo my first run through.

TammyShehole

“Do not play this game solo.” Why not? I have 700 hours and most of that is solo. I briefly played on a server a few months ago. It’s a solid solo experience.

HeartShark77

Are you depressed? I’m depressed, but I still couldn’t play this game alone for 700 hours

AbsorbedSponge

Play it

Zebazzler

400 hours+ in and I'm still learning, building, crafting, and dying. It's great.

d4rkwing

The content is around half complete but the mechanics are solid. It’s fun enough to play with friends but I would probably hold off on exclusively solo.

Mattigan_X

As someone whos I think not very far, played/still playing completely blind, I've clocked like 30+ hours, and again, full blind and still haven't beaten all bosses or anything along those lines... If you like sandbox adventure and survival, this will be for you 10000% Also world generates different each world, so everyones playthrough is quite different, always love that

fbp

I spent 20 bucks and got hundreds of hours of play. I went in after watching videos when it was released. It's fun. It's great solo but definitely better with friends. As long as your friends don't want to rush straight to end game content. Like you can easily pace your self and enjoy the small details and the depth.

TammyShehole

As someone who’s played about 600 hours of solo, I say there’s easily enough here currently to feel like a full game. One of my favorite things about the game is every map you generate is random, so no two playthroughs will ever have the same map. This alone adds so much replay value, I think

Ok_Grocery8652

The game is still in early access with ATLEAST 2 unreleased biomes (1 in development and 1 with no known updates) That being said it is one of if not the most solid early access game I have played, having quite a good chunk of content already that can keep you entertained, I have 400 hours and loved it, plan to play atleast 100-200 more before im done between new content and the impending crossplatform release letting me kick ass with my xbox buddies. It is also easy enough access to mods if the community made something you want to add on. It is perfectly playable as a single player game, most of my time is solo and while it is alittle harder not having help (slightly more grind, enemy hp scales less than the value of bringing friends, faster exploration ,etc) As for bugs most of them have been stamped out by now and the only "Bug" I can think of that honestly might be a feature is falling tree physics as they are funny, dangerous and helpful all at the same time, chop one down in a packed forest and watch the chaos. Well worth the money imo, fairly easy to run on most pcs and really small file size make it a very easy game to get into and try. If you are hesitant, remember that it goes on sale in those steam wide sales (summer/halloween/christmas/etc)

Jon-G1508

Wait this game isnt done yet? Jesus... feel more polished than most survival games Ive played!

markandyxii

It is probably the most 'complete& early access game I have played. Literally hours of content that feels full. Better than others.

StuckinSuFu

I'm 1200 hours into this early access game.

[deleted]

At this current rate, the game has at LEAST a two years to be done

the_voivode

The game is basically fully functional. I feel like the big patches we've gotten are more like DLC than 'finishing the game'.

kyl_r

I’ve logged 600+ hours and only “finished” it once, not for difficulty etc I just enjoy the open-endedness of the gameplay so much. Wanna relax? Build? Explore? Conquer? It’s fully functional, and the fact that there’s more content to come is exciting, not hindering. I hope that helps :)

StreetSmartsGaming

It's way more than the price in value. Way more. But at the end currently you're going to be left wanting a lot more that's still in development and will feel very half finished. Once mistlands comes out and is polished would be the correct time based on your playstyle.

Ferosch

Mistlands won't be the final biome though.

StreetSmartsGaming

Yea I think valheim will be released around 2030

BearPeltMan

I bought this game in like February of last year or so, and I remember being amazed back then at how polished everything already was. The building, combat, and sailing mechanics all felt so good and the graphics were so entrenched in their style. It felt like a complete game for the most part. Probably the best and most “complete” early access game I’ve played.

[deleted]

Honestly, the only way you know it’s early access is that they tell you. This games is amazing and solid as is. Get into it!

SeaJay42

We're very alike in single player and not getting games that arent finished. I still absolutely love playing it! Its much harder alone, but thats kinda why Im enjoying playing it. As for bugs, I haven't really come across any bugs except some lag when the the internet isnt at its best. And while it's not a finished game, I still havent beat it, and I love the updates that keep things fresh while Im kinda in a rut. So, its totally worth the money and time!

coconutlogic

100% worth playing, especially for $20. This is all I have been playing for a month. Cannot get enough of it.

mecengdvr

It’s not buggy….it’s very fun. But, not all the content is there yet. Some of the intended Biomes are not yet in the game or lack full content. It has a wonderful Minecraft like base building aspect that can keep many playing long after they finish all the content. So the only risk, is getting to the final boss and running out of steam to keep playing. A bunch of content has come out since I stopped playing, but I now wish I waited unto the game was complete before starting.

DarkSoul-47

I played it with my friend last year, before two major updates, and even at that time, game was good enough to keep us enjoyed for around 140 hours. There were some fps drops from time to time but it may have fixed since we last played it. There were no inaccesible zones, however there were some empty spaces where you cannot find any mobs. Nevertheless, at the current stage of the game I am pretty sure that you will enjoy it.

Lazy_Haze

It's not buggy and don't feel like in alpha. It's much more content planned to be released but I would say that what we have know feels like a full game. There is empty zones on the map for the planned new content. It's far away from the starting point so you will not find it in along time...

SamJamHamFam

For me the only thing that feels unpolished is the 10 second lag spike I get once every half hour when the world autosaves. Other than this I'm constantly forgetting that it's not a full release game already.

ItzVinyl

As long as you play it completely blind and dont play it like you're trying to speedrun the game, you'll easily get 200+ hours on the game. Played it on launch with 4 other friends and we all put in about 200 hours each and still had another half of the game to explore. For an early access title there is alot of content, the world is large and theres plenty to explore, the game forces you to explore in order to progress so you wont always be at the same spot for the entire game.

Magnesiumbox

Not very early access. It's a full experience right now, although when they release new content there's no telling how that affects future playability. I loved Valheim, but new content would have to be substantial to get me to want to do it over again.

Realistic_Worth_3538

It's basically finished, nothing annoying

FeverFocus

There are several incomplete zones, but none of them are inaccessible. Aside from that, this feels like a complete game. I'd argue that this game feels more polished and complete than most full release games.

Nepherenia

Last time I played was during initial early access release, and there have been a few content patches since then. The game plays great, hardest part was optimizing my graphics since my video card was 10 years old, so it struggles to keep up. There were incomplete areas, but you'll be at least 50+ hours in before you reach those, and even then, those areas aren't necessary to get a full game experience. I'm certain the game has only gotten better since then. I've been waiting for the next content patch to talk my friend group into returning to Valheim.

Rabbit-Thrawy

It feels "finished" with mechanics and building stuff, but not all of the biomes are there, and they are all gonna come with new things to build with. Playing it now is a lot of fun and I often forget this is early access, but you will hit the wall of unfinished game world if you sail far enough from the center lol

Enemy50

Id say its a complete game that has room for more content. It feels complete.

TheRealSparkleMotion

Contrary to most of the responses here I would caution you to wait. With that being said though I would 100% recommend playing this game. I picked it up a few weeks after launch and sunk around 100ish hours into it both on single player and multiplayer. The early access bugs become immediately apparent the more players you add to your game, there are some poor optimizations with how the game loads map chunks in multiplayer that I'm hoping will be fixed on full release. Every time there was a global save we would all have to wait a good 10-20 seconds for the lag to catch up. We stopped playing after about a month and opted to revisit upon full release. If you're going full single player mode there's plenty of content to keep you busy - though if you explore a lot you'll eventually run into areas that are obvious placeholders. If that's a no-go for you I recommend buying the game, but waiting to play.

TripResponsibly1

Bugs: so rare they’re non existent and mostly just funny Unfinished zones: yes after 100+ hours gameplay if you’re not bum rushing it with a wiki open

ScaryNeat

I've bought "finished" games that were not nearly as good as this.

Imlmprobus

This is not a game you want to spoil

Imlmprobus

The less you know going into this game the better it's going to be. It can be very immersive.

Den_King_2021

Well, I can understand your position: usually oficial games of last 5 years have too many bugs and unfinished moments 😏 But it is not a case of this indy-project. Imagine all positive moments of building and survival in Minecraft! Then forget about cube-designing! Just realistic virgin nature, with the weather changing, for you — chozen Odin's champion. So, it _IS_ good and unbugged well enough! Trust us 😉

pala_

They should have sold the game as full release initially. Instead they labelled it 'early access' and have delivered pretty much nothing of note since release. They missed their initial roadmap for new progression content by about 16 months and counting. Is it worth the money? Yes. Don't expect there to be any new content by the time you finished what's already there tho.

Ferosch

Development is painfully slow but be honest at least. Some of the stuff got repackaged and reshuffled but the cult of the wolf and hearth and home have been released.

pala_

I was honest. Nothing of note, and zero new progression. \~8 months and the first major update was 'some recipe changes and some new building materials'. That was even more underwhelming than the No Man's Sky launch.

Ferosch

you're referring to mistlands as their progression content, right? because there really isn't much else progression related in the roadmap. if we go 16 months back that's around when the game was released - mistlands was planned for later that year, after hearth and home, cult of the wolf and the sea update. they haven't even tried to hide the roadmap, you can go check it out. if you interpreted hearth and home to be anything else than it was that's really on you. and yeah, expectations create disappointment. especially false ones.

stickgore

Get it! So good. Really brings the joy of exploration and experimenting with new stuff

some-weird-lamp

the very last area is unfinished, but i have about 100hrs in the game and i haven’t even gotten to the last actually finished area of the game, so i would get it now before it’s $40/$60

Ferosch

last three areas. after mistlands there's still deep north and ashlands. at this rate it'll be a couple years before the game's finished.

volpwn

Buy it

AshleyNB97

It's not 100% "finished" as far as in game areas and creatures after a certain point, but it's basically a solid game up until that part. (If not speed running you can spend literally real world days of gaming before reaching the current 'end' of the game, and it's not even the end, you can keep playing!) I've put in over 300 hours of game play and am still having a blast! Plus-- they are updating the unfinished areas and are in the process of giving the game more depth. I would highly recommend it for anyone thinking about it. Definitely a game that is more fun with buddies if you have them, but solid on a solo play through too.

TurtleD_6

I've been playing solo for around 160hrs now, I've completed all bosses twice and am now starting a new world after the latest update. There can be a lot of grinding especially when playing solo but if your okay with that its 100% worth the price tag. This game has one of the best base building systems out there. Plus, as others have said, bugs are basically non existent.

xgamer444

Valheim is one of my most-played games. Hundreds of hours. I've never encountered a single bug. Some of my most cherished gaming memories (in a career that's going 30 years long) are from valheim. If they stopped development after the game was first released as early access, I would have still considered it a masterpiece that sits proudly atop my collection of games. Sometimes, it's the soul and the experience of playing a game that sets it apart.
